Dr. Tina Ghotanian has restored my faith in dentists. I moved to LA about 3 years ago and have been searching for a dentist. I had a horrible experience with a different dentist and was wary of finding another. Dr. Ghotanian was a breath of fresh air. I visited her office on Tuesday for a consultation. I decided to start over and get new X-Rays even though they wouldn't be covered because it was less than a year since I took my last set - and I did not want to go through my old dentist to get them. She reviewed the X-Rays and examined my mouth. She confirmed my good oral hygiene, and was even able to squeeze in a cleaning for me. She went over all of the things the bad dentist said I needed, and confirmed I did not need the procedures recommended and why. She was EXTREMELY honest and has a bedside manner that puts you at ease. I see some reviews saying she is out to get your money... which I would like to address because it is extremely confusing to me. I had the opposite experience, and have a hard time believing that. She went above and beyond and even comped my X-Rays. She knew what a bad experience I had had at the horrible dentist, and wanted to get me back on track in a positive way. I first discovered Tina a year ago when my daughter chipped her tooth while at school. She took us right in and did a fantastic job repairing the chip. Since that time, my entire family has moved to her. The office is great; they work with my insurance, they send e-mail reminders about appointments, and they will fit me in to their schedule on very short notice. All the work she has done on me has been excellent. I wasn't unhappy with my family's previous dentist but when we found Tina, we couldn't help but move our business over to her. I would have to give them 5 stars. I went to another Dentist in Pasadena (located near Lake and Walnut). That Dentist took X-Rays, refused to do a cleaning and gave me an invoice of $5000 for all the needed work (mind you I have insurance, and some of their recommendations were iffy). At that point I was ready to drive to Tijuana (I do not speak Spanish) and check out a Dentist in Mexico (some have very great reviews) ... the Dentist in TJ was trained at McGill in Canada, and that appealed it the Canadian in me ... My wife intervened (she did not want me border-hopping), and sent me to Dental Arts in Pasadena. The examination was simple and straightforward. They recommended a root-canal (I did need one). My bill was less than 1/5th of what the other dentist was telling me ... They are good ... I think I have finally found a good dentist. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Ghotanian several years ago and I just now noticed she has multiple Yelp listings. I had a filling fall out and I went to her to get it replaced. First of all, her receptionist was just awful to me, in person and on the phone with me and my insurance rep. I waited forever in the lobby, then waited forever in the chair. Finally, Tina comes in and looks at my mouth for three minutes then leaves without saying anything (!) Twenty minutes later the receptionist comes in and tells me that I will have to have a procedure that is not covered by insurance (first thing out of her mouth). She also says I will need a deep cleaning which is not covered by insurance either. I never see Dr. Ghotanian for the rest of the visit. I just am supposed to take the receptionist's word about all this. And this was happening over several hours, mind you. I witnessed the same receptionist tell multiple other patients the same story-- "you're insurance will not cover what we need to do." Fortunately, after an insurance dispute with this same woman, I went to a different dentist who, of course, told me I just needed a regular filling, covered by my insurance. Should be zero star. I waited for about one month for seeing the doctor. Then, they told me that I needed a deep cleaning and I had to pay 340 with insurance. In my insurance plan I just need to pay 100 at most for a whole mouth deep cleaning. They provide me other medicine which is not included in my insurance plan. I even consulted a second opinion, which Dr Ghotanian was totally cool about. Ultimately i went back. I have been going to Dr. Tina Ghotanian for 8 years and have found her and her entire staff extremely friendly, knowledgeable, courteous and fair. I have never waited more than 5-10 minutes before seeing the doctor or a hygienist. The doctor always explains my x-rays and if I need a procedure beyond a regular cleaning or check-up. My husband is also a patient at her Toluca Lake office and he is very pleased with them as well. Overall my family and I are very happy with Dental Arts! read more

Stay away from this place. They are a scam. They have about three Yelp sites. Check out "Toluca Dental Arts" to get real reviews on how they work. My insurance assigned them to me. I tried to get in as a new patient and they insisted that I have two appointments. One for the x-rays and exam and another for the cleaning. When I tried to insist that the cleaning be done at the same time, they refused and told me it was against office policy - the dentist needed to determine what "kind" of cleaning I needed. I said, "Okay, I'll see the dentist first and then do the cleaning." This was not acceptable as they didn't know how long to schedule the hygienist. I suggested that in my last ten years of cleanings, the average time was about 45 minutes. This was not acceptable as I might need a deep cleaning. I told them I had this done two years ago and wouldn't be having it done again. When I pushed on this, the office manager said, "We don't know what type of cleaning, you're eligible for." I called her on this and said that I would determine my dental health - not what my insurance provided. I asked to speak with the dentist numerous times and was told that I wasn't a fit for their services and that I should contact my insurance company to find another dentist. The dentist won't be calling me back as she did in another review to apologize for the initial miscommunication as they didn't even as my name. read more

I visited Dr. Ghotanian because I read good reviews. I agree that the staff is friendly and professional. On my initial visit I had to wait a little which is okay because they needed time to input my info into their system. X-Ray technician was really good, efficient and friendly. Dr. Ghotanian was really professional too, examined my teeth and said I had no cavities but suggested a deep cleaning. Out of Pocket $100.00. I returned for my deep cleaning few weeks later and I did not wait at all but it only took the dental hygienist 30 minutes to finish. I have done deep cleaning in the past and it has taken closer to an hour including the flossing of the teeth after the cleaning and the Dr's final check up to make sure all is good. None of that happened at Dr Ghotanian's office which was disappointing especially that I had a positive experience on my 1st visit. On top of it all, the hygienist told me that she sees "something like a cavity" and wanted to know if Dr Ghotanian had talked to me about it... I said no, because when Dr. Ghotanian examined my teeth on my initial visit, she said I had no cavities. I walked out of there scratching my head... I had to come home and floss because it did not feel right. It felt grainy in between my teeth and did not feel any difference from before the cleaning. What a waste of $100! I had scheduled an appointment for April and I contacted their office (via email) to cancel. When I was asked if I wanted to reschedule and I said no and explained the reason why, I did not hear back from them again. I had decided not to write a review but went against it after their indifference. read more

Wow, reading the last two reviews it's like I don't even need to write one because it seems to be the trend in that office. I have also gone to that office twice and said I would not return after the 1st visit, but then I wanted to get my teeth cleaned, since they would not do it on the 1st appointment, so I went back. Only to have them tell me that I needed a deep cleaning and it would cost so much out of pocket because insurance does not cover. They wanted the money up front before they would proceed. I would have thought that this would have been checked with insurance first and they would have notified me ahead of time that I would need to pay. And not only that but I would have to come back twice because they only do one side at a time. The front office staff is rude and pushy and as I stood at the front desk waiting for copies of my records, she got on the phone and just ignored that I was even standing there . Not quite a year later and I continue to be impressed with the professionalism and personal care administered by Dr. Ghotanian and her staff. Throughout the process of having 11 teeth removed and fitted for permanent partials, her team assisted me (and the oral surgeon's office) by wading through the red tape of both my insurance company and the company managing my flexible spending account. They filed appeals that resulted in me receiving the treatments I needed, and jumped through several hoops to make sure my procedures were approved and paid for. In addition, they worked with the lab and lab tech who created my partials until everything fit perfectly. And kudos to Rebecca, who suggested I consider permanent bridges for my uppers instead of partials for a more natural (and comfortable) look. I took her advice and now have a natural and beautiful looking smile - and it was just in time for my wedding in September. As long as Dr. Ghotanian practices dentistry, I will continue to be her patient and consider myself fortunate and blessed because of this. read more
