I recently changed dentists from Dr. Sona because she wasn't in the office for a few of my visits. The dental hygienist did some very aggressive cleanings leaving me in pain. She told me that she was going to order an antibacterial treatment that would cost me $200 + out of pocket. I told her that I needed the doctor to tell me that I needed it, but the doctor wasn't available. I recently saw a new dentist who was calm & present & even did my cleaning. The first few sessions with Dr. Sona were friendly and professional. However, I repeatedly felt pressured to start Invisalign with her. Invisalign came up at every visit, and she even showed me a credit card I could apply for to finance it. I ended up choosing a different Invisalign provider. When she learned that, she seemed visibly upset and immediately asked why I went elsewhere. Before starting Invisalign, I had a cavity check with her and completed about 5-6 fillings over three appointments. At the final visit, after all work was done, I was told I could not return for roughly a year (the full Invisalign period), allegedly "for my safety," including for routine cleanings. This "policy" had never been shared earlier, and the timing made it feel retaliatory. On the administrative side, I also found the front desk unhelpful; the receptionist became curt when I asked for clarification on charges, which made me feel like I was doing something wrong for wanting transparency. __________________________________ The owner's reply says I "declined to share" my Invisalign provider. That is incorrect. Their office completed and signed a "Cavity Clearance Request" on 1/20/25 (see photo), which identifies my Invisalign provider and includes BHO contact info. Despite having that information and after 5-6 fillings over three visits; I was told I could not return for about 1 year during Invisalign, including cleanings. Unprofessional and unethical. I was this dentist's patient, and when I was traveling abroad, I had a dental emergency and paid out of pocket for treatment by a local dentist. Came back to this office, the Dr is now refusing to treat me. Claiming I'm a liability. I asked her why would she be liable for work she didn't do? She refused the answer and just told me to leave because I was a liability. Refused to read me my perio chart, refused to read the x ray they already took. Said I was "their patient now", as in the new dentist. She seemed mad. So I suspect the only reason she kicked me out is because she didnt make any money from my emergency treatment abroad. We have been going to Fair Oaks Dental for our dental needs for 5 years, and our experience with them has gotten from good to great. Today, I had a root canal procedure with Dr. Sona. I normally forget to leave reviews for services (even though they are so helpful, and I myself always check them!) Today, however, I wanted to leave a review for her because the service provided to me was nothing short of amazing. Sandra made sure the doctor's schedule was not too full to give her enough time to work on my tooth. The nurse was ready for me as soon as I went in, and the doctor herself saw me within 2 minutes of my entering the room. The procedure was painless and smooth, and I was treated professionally. Dr. Sona definitely knows what she is doing! I bring my children to this Dental office and my husband, being a picky patient, has always had great experience with them, too. I had a terrible experience with Dr.Asatrayan. I went for a regular checkup at the clinic. The hygienist said there was a cavity but when Dr.Asatrayan came in to take a look, she said there was no cavity. Several months later, a piece of my molar chipped when I was eating something and I decided to see a different dentist. The other dentist said that the tooth had a really big cavity, and it had decayed so much from the inside that it chipped. She said this cavity had been developing for over a year, and she was shocked that it hadn't been caught at my checkups in the past year. The decay was really bad, and almost to the nerve of the tooth. I ended up needing to get a crown on my molar. I was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism from Dr. Asatryan, and the fact that she hadn't caught the cavity. I do not understand how a practicing dentist can miss a cavity - especially with the Xray images available. read more

Below average service at best. They've called to reschedule my appointment last minute then I get there in the day they rescheduled me to and the door is locked and no one is answering the phone. They all show up several minutes later ; "they went out to lunch". The cleaning itself was fine. I asked about X-rays and an exam since it had been a year since my last one , I was told by the dentist that "since I've had no work done I'm probably fine and we can just do it next time". Overall I just felt like no one really cared and I was being rushed in and out. Cleaning was done with in 10 minutes. Felt I was not given the standard care of preventive yearly exam that my insurance covers. Just because I have no pain does not mean I don't need to be examined. That is literally the whole point of these preventive visits. There will not be a next time for me. Will be finding a different dentist. read more

Made an appointment months ago and wrote down the address. I never received a reminder email, call, postcard, nothing. I couldn't find them the day of my appointment. My Google Maps stop short of their building. When I got there, I was late. I didn't mind waiting, but the paperwork ahead of fill out was way too detailed. Why do you need to know how long? I've lived at my apartment. And whether I rent or own and all the address, phone number and relationship info of my closest relative...seemed weird. I told the hygienist that I gag very easily. And she kept trying to put this thing in my mouth that I'd never experienced before and it was covered with a lot of plastic and it was huge and of course I gagged. Then some other people came in and told me to just breathe through my mouth. Because that's not anything I've heard before, right? After they kept referring to me as honey and speaking to me like I was a child I just got up and left. I did not feel welcome as a new patient at all. This was my first visit to this dentist. I went there since I had a pain in my molar which I made very clear while making the appointment and during the consultation. They made me go through a very painful deep cleaning procedure, during which the doctor and her associate kept gossiping and the burr fell into my mouth almost choking me. They never apologized and instead covered it up by saying "oh don't worry that's just the tool and not your tooth". Just finishing up Invisalign last tray and I'm super impressed with the results and how fast it went. I had braces as a teenager and that was so painful. Invisalign is a little uncomfortable for a day or so but I would forget they were even there. It's definitely worth the premium. Should have done this sooner. I mean it. I hadn't been to a dentist in 26 years. Filled with shame, embarrassment, & fear, I showed up with 4 cavities, 1 of which had a hole the size of a pencil eraser in a molar with more holes coming off of it like tree branches. In fact, I had been chewing on only 1 side of my face for 3 years & waited until I had an abscess & 1/2 of my face swelled up like a squirrel. I called in a panic on a Friday, when she was out of office, &, having never seen me before, with no judgement, their extremely helpful office staff got me in right away 1st thing Monday morning & had me get on antibiotics immediately so the abscess would be treated over the weekend. I came into the most pleasant, and well decorated waiting room I have ever sat in. X-rays were taken, also by friendly and helpful staff members. Then, Dr. Asatryan came in & sat down with me, as if she already sensed my shame & fear & started off with, "So, how long has it been, it's ok, you can tell me." I stammered out what an idiot I had been, how I had lived in multiple states but only really gone to 1 dentist in my home state that I hadn't visited in forever, & that somehow, over time I had developed a phobia & that I had been experiencing pain in the worst tooth since I'd been pregnant with my now toddler. She smiled warmly, zero judgement, discussed the fears in my mind that I hadn't even had the courage to mention and put each one of them to rest. She was encouraging, reassuring, positive and something I would never have considered to be so incredibly important in dentist shopping...she was kind. She vowed to get the mess in my mouth (my words not hers) all sorted and fixed, and nurturingly promised to take care of me. And that's exactly what she did. My first ever root canal took hours. She and her equally super kind assistant worked like a well-oiled machine communicating in soft tones minimally yet thoroughly. Like they read each other's thoughts. Hold onto your hats...it was painless. It was fascinating actually, & the level of technology used was astounding. I got fitted for my very 1st crown, got a temporary and left with no soreness whatsoever. My temp cracked because I clench my jaw when I sleep (she got right on top of that as well ordering a guard for when I sleep) and once again they fit me in right away. My porcelain crown had arrived but she read the fine print of what type of porcelain the lab had used to make it & decided she wanted a different component in it due to my jaw clenching & the amount of abnormal pressure she felt I would put on it & ordered a different type of porcelain at no extra fee. The time & care she put into fitting my crown, making slight adjustments & filing it down a bit at a time to ensure the perfect fit was impressive & I was so grateful. But I've now come to expect only the best care from this woman who seems to honestly love her work and pays such close attention to every little detail. My next appointment to deal with my smaller cavities is already set & I can't believe I am saying this, but I am actually looking forward to it! Wasted so much time and money. I am rewriting this review bc of the complaint i received so here is more civil review. I grind my teeth due to stress while i sleep and chipped my tooth which eld me to this doctor. I had to visit this office every 3 months bc the filling she has done on my molar kept on coming off when it should stay on for at least 5 years (every visit i paid for the filling btw). With refilling of the filling, you have to shave down more of your tooth. Imagine what would happen when her fillings came off 2-3 times on the same tooth? Yup nerve was opened and i had to get root canal and a crown. I got root canal done by a different specialist and she promised a crown but instead she just did ceramic onlay and charged my insurance as a crown. Of course your non crown tooth chips again and i go see a different dentist and had to pay for a crown out of pocket bc crown was covered once in 5 years with my insurance. She preaches conservative practice but she will do poor filling job, let a tooth decay for a long time so that you will have to get root canal and crown from her. Ever since i left this dentist i've never had a single filling fall out and only visit the dentist 6 months for cleaning. I usually never write reviews but i have spent at least $3000 on her for mouth guard, fillings, cleaning, crown and etc so i will write a review. I have met Dr. Asatryan, she is very likable and knowledgeable, I met her at a consultation for a second opinion, however I never had her look at my actual teeth. This past Saturday was my first cleaning. Mind you I have been to a dentists all my life, and have gotten many cleanings. Even as my anxiety to going to doctors does make my heart beat fast and make me antsy , I have never had to stop the dental technicians during my cleaning and I always pre warn them too, just that I get a little uncomfortable. This first cleaning I warned the technician before I got in the chair that I can get anxious during a cleaning but I never had any problems, just a forewarning. She looked at me like she never had a patient say this to her but we proceeded to start. She wanted to go straight to cleaning, however I asked about getting my X-rays she said they are short staff. She did look at my file and saw I don't have any x-rays with them but wanted me to comeback a different day for them. (Which if you would have seen my file before hand you would know..idk) Proceeding with the cleaning, note she was the only person providing me with a cleaning (with every cleaning I have ever had , there has always been two-not the biggest deal in the world), so I just sit there as she hangs the sucking took along one side of my mouth. At one point in the beginning of the cleaning I felt a sharp poking, and I stopped her to make her aware of how uncomfortable it was, you know communicating. She looked at me and says "I am going to touch your gums" no duh! She did offer me local anesthetic however I have never needed it before..so why do I need it now?! I let her proceed and as she is, I have residue falling on my face and eyes and realized I have no safety/eye protectors. I stopped the technician again to request glasses, she look at me and says she doesn't have any, which is CRAZY but then said "you can use your sunglasses". (Which I had sitting by my phone) It's crazy to me they didn't have anything and I wasn't about to sit there with my eyes twitching and closing (i really should have just left then smh) Continuing with the cleaning, I had to stop her at least 4-5 times because she was either hurting me or because the sucking tool hanging from my mouth wasn't grabbing what it needed to.. It was the most painful awful cleaning I have EVER HAD. That visit alone I WILL NEVER GO AGAIN. I got home feeling like I had a cut on one side of my mouth and thought I was even soar the day after but it got worse. On top of all that for the past week I have had sores/blistes at the back of my mouth, irritating the back of my throat as well. Also to add to my experience the front desk personal are just rude and look miserable. Even my husband who had a visit before me did not like the front desk personnel and also has his own complaints about his visit...oh and he didn't get his X-rays either. This office is so limited with their staff, as well as their scheduling times. They are limited period, and don't seem to be able to provide quality service for insurance I pay for. There are much better dentist offices and technicians out there. read more

We went for cleaning and cavity filling earlier in the year and the experience always felt like we were being encouraged to spend more (in addition to the poor service at the front desk reception). Treatments were way overpriced relative to other dentists we've since checked out so definitely don't go here if you need to pay for any procedures out-of-pocket. It's been over half a year since we last went, but I felt I just had to write a review given Dr. Asatryan's practice is illustrative of what's wrong with the US health insurance industry where incentives are such that doctors try to milk as much insurance money as they can with little regard to the long-term well-being of patients. Worth dentist experience in my life. I went in for a broken tooth with a cavity on it to fix. I was told I needed a crown. The 2 first time I came in I waited after being on the dentist chair 1h30, then 1st time the Dr check my teeth quickly and did a temporary fix in less that 10min. 2nd time to put a half crown instead of the crown (not sure if it's the same price... already paid for a full $1000), then she told me it will be a half crown, did it really quickly... 3 weeks after it fell... I called for having it fix for 2 days, finally got the secretary who told me the assistant will fix it, without telling me that it will be temporary as apparently she is not allowed to use what a Dr use. Now I am waiting to see the Dr for a real fix.... The secretary is rude. The Dr doesn't respect the time of her patients, and rush her work. The only nice person in there is the assistant who was sorry for the delay and try to fix as she can as she is not a Dr. I am hoping the Dr will fix it for real next time, and after that I won't go there anymore. She is not a very friendly and patient dentist. Take the time to find a different office and dentist, you will regret going here. Apart from the subpar service from Asatryan, she only consults 4 days a week and is closed on the weekends. This provides inflexible hours and makes it difficult to schedule an appointment and/or go back for follow-ups. I've been here 3x this past year and have failed to have a positive experience, each time a different issue arising. This last time they scheduled me for an appointment on a day the office was CLOSED, unbeknownst to me because they fail to send appointment reminders and or courtesy phone calls to confirm appointments. read more

This will most likely be my 7th yelp review ever. I never write yelp review unless I'm either EXTREMELY blown away or HIGHLY disappointed. In this case I was very dissatisfied with the service at Fair Oaks Dental. Not once did I feel like I was a priority at this office. The only reason I was even assigned to this office was through my new HMO insurance that I received through work. I just finished speaking with them a few minutes ago to set up a dental cleaning. I was shocked at the fact that when I mentioned that the last time I called I was put on hold for about 30 minutes the person on the phone laughed and said she had never placed anyone on hold for that long. At this point I became irate because I've been attempting to set up a cleaning for weeks but every time I get placed on hold. I understand that perhaps the last time I called and was placed on hold for 30minutes maybe she just forgot but laughing at the fact that my claim was "untrue" is highly unprofessional, I was the one waiting for 30minutes during my lunch break and I hung up after the 30minutes because I had to clock back in.
