This was an unexpected surprise. Went out for brunch forgetting it was Mother's Day and the first two places we went to had a two hour and one hour wait respectively. So ended up at Crying onion which had a 30-40 minute wait but didn't want to sit on a stone bench outside. Waitress suggested this place next door. It was a real surprise. Nice ambience, quiet, uncrowded and while they have the expected breakfast burritos and such they also have pancakes, waffles and bacon. I opted for the buttermilk waffle which was delicious! Cooked perfectly, tender and hot and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Bacon was thick cut and cooked just right! Generous portions and friendly staff. Only complaint is service was rather slow especially since there were only a few patrons. Fix the order to table time and you'll get five stars. We'll certainly be back to this hidden breakfast gem! read more

I've lost count how many times I've been here and it continues to exceed my expectations. From the warm and inviting staff to the delicious meals everything at Tio Ben's is excellent. I love the number 14. And the crispy tacos with shredded beef are absolutely mouthwatering. I'm also a big fan of the cheese enchiladas. And the homemade chips and salsa are awesome. They also house make the crispy taco shells, which are just outstanding. They're open for brunch at 9 AM on Sundays. And they can make basically the same items as the crying onion but offer a lot more space. This place is becoming my second home for myself and family. I absolutely treasured this gem. read more

Great Little find in an old Famous Sam's location from the 80's and 90's at Orange Grove/Thornydale. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with kindness and attention. From the delicious chips and salsa to the authentic Mexican dishes, this place is wonderful! Service was above and beyond, and facilities were spotless. This is a must try for all! Absolutely love Tio Bens! Mr. Luis is the best waiter. I love the cheese enchiladas, and my husband loves the tostadas! We're also a big fan of their in-house made tortilla chips that are delicious with their salsa. They open up at 9 AM on Sunday Sundays for brunch and you can get breakfast - similar to that of the crying onion - traditional, Mexican food. We ordered the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and they were chicken filled, great flavor along with very good rice n beans. The surprise was the very flavorful chicken fajitas, served steaming with a sauce you would not believe. From the initial welcome throughout the entire meal the service was spectacular - our chips, salsa and water refilled, our food arrived hot and sizzling (fajitas:) in no time at all, and we were greeted kindly and felt at home. Went on a Friday and were thrilled with the live music - not Mexican music- but still lovely - old favorites sung beautifully while strumming the guitar. The food was also on point! The Birria burrito was stuffed with tender, flavorful meat. The chicken fajitas were scrumptious and a very generous portion! 2 folks split the fajitas and we still took leftovers home! I would also give very high marks for the enchiladas verdes. The meat (chicken and Birria) was tender, lean and such high quality - not a bunch grizzle which is sometimes served. The green sauce was bright and the beans and rice were above average. The beer was crisp and cold and a good price. The margaritas were tasty but a tad expensive. I had read about this restaurant online and people were saying how much they enjoyed it. There was live music (two guys playing with a track of mostly country music) which is always a nice touch. Our server (male) was pretty much the only one on the floor and he never stopped. He was really a great server with way too many tables to take care of and despite this, he did a super job! We each ordered a margarita. Our chips and salsa arrived fairly quickly and we had high hopes as the chips were seasoned well and the salsa was flavorful. We waited at least 20 minutes for our margaritas to arrive and they were really lame. We watched the lady making them and she is definitely not a bartender. I hope the owner reads this review as it would be more profitable if he/she had a true bartender - drinks would come out faster and taste better=more people ordering more drinks=more profit. Now the food. Our plates arrived and you know it's unusual in a Mexican restaurant when the server doesn't say "Careful, the plates are hot". Our plates were not hot and neither was our food which was strange as we saw our food put in the window and our server immediately brought it to our table. Our food was lukewarm at best. The cheese inside of my husband's enchilada's was not melted. My husband also had a chile relleno which seemed like it was previously cooked and then slightly reheated. My husband also had a fish taco and the fish used was salmon; not what you expect in a fish taco. Not only was the food barely lukewarm, it had zero flavor which was so disappointing. The sauce served on the enchiladas was bland and reminded me of Campbell's tomato soup - same color and bland like that soup. read more

Chicken little oversalted, but I am salt sensitive, others may find it fine. Nice balance ratio of ingredients to lettuce. Would have liked to seen fresh green pepper added for color and flavor. Refried beans in bottom and placement of shell. Beans just OK ,something missing in flavor though. There is plenty of chicken for sure. Guacamole had a nice lemon tang ,but would have liked better if diced tomato had been added to Guacamole. Was filling, so I could only eat 1/2 of it. Husband had ground beef enchiladas combo. Red sauce was good, had nice spice kick, and the flavor was excellent. Quality was generous. Salsa again some spice and heat to it , chip light ,crisp,fresh and lightly salted. Will be back, prices on par $$ with other places close. Service excellant , server pleasant, attentive and nice smile. Oh, I had water with lemon. Worst appetizers in Tucson hands down!!!! I had the Fiesta Platter that not only was overpriced but you could not even eat it! The flautas were nothing but corn tortillas with a couple of strings of meat in them looks like they forgot to stuff them or they ran out of meat. The mini chimichangas were just as bad and the quesadillas were bland without very much cheese. The Guacamole was the worst I ever tasted and tasted like it was a week old. I was 1 of 3 tables at 6:30 pm on a Thursday night and the other tables all had uneaten food left on their plates. I don't expect this place to be open by the end of the month. The beer wasn't very cold and the service was slow- the waitress was more interested in flirting with the bartender than waiting on the customers! I will never be back!! read more

Got the shrimp with tequila sauce as it was listed as a chef specialty. Came with a dollop of guacamole on salad. Asked for a side of calabacitas because it was listed on the special but apparently this is not a side dish on the menu, was able to get for an up charge. The table salsa was watery, but the chips were ok. My girlfriend got the tostodas and liked them. I though my meal was fair, but for lunch spent $28 with water to drink. Maybe I just got the wrong thing, may give it a second change. One of those places that charges more for credit card. Service was good. Three in our party had a combination plate of chile rellano, taco and chicken enchilada along with rice and beans. The food was tasty, I liked the taco best but other two items were also tasty. The beans were ok but I didn't care for the rice but in all fairness I almost never like the rice at restaurants. Our son had the birria chimichanga and the meat was super dry, he only ate about a1/3 of it but he did like the rice and beans.
