Buttermilk Waffle
Jesse B.

This was an unexpected surprise. Went out for brunch forgetting it was Mother's Day and the first two places we went to had a two hour and one hour wait respectively. So ended up at Crying onion which had a 30-40 minute wait but didn't want to sit on a stone bench outside. Waitress suggested this place next door. It was a real surprise. Nice ambience, quiet, uncrowded and while they have the expected breakfast burritos and such they also have pancakes, waffles and bacon. I opted for the buttermilk waffle which was delicious! Cooked perfectly, tender and hot and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Bacon was thick cut and cooked just right! Generous portions and friendly staff. Only complaint is service was rather slow especially since there were only a few patrons. Fix the order to table time and you'll get five stars. We'll certainly be back to this hidden breakfast gem!

I've lost count how many times I've been here and it continues to exceed my expectations. From the warm and inviting staff to the delicious meals everything at Tio Ben's is excellent. I love the number 14. And the crispy tacos with shredded beef are absolutely mouthwatering. I'm also a big fan of the cheese enchiladas. And the homemade chips and salsa are awesome. They also house make the crispy taco shells, which are just outstanding. They're open for brunch at 9 AM on Sundays. And they can make basically the same items as the crying onion but offer a lot more space. This place is becoming my second home for myself and family. I absolutely treasured this gem.

What a pleasant surprise it was to find this gem! The combos were delicious and such a large serving that my husband and I were stuffed and had enough to take home. We loved the vibe and the music! Luis, thank you for a wonderful experience! You were so attentive to us and for sure we will be back. It looks like they have live entertainment on the weekends so we will be back for that.

New place here on NW Side. Super excited! Ordered combo plates- service is great! Margarita is tasty & I got a skull toothpick Great place to check out for something new. Should become a new stop!

Hidden gym off of Orange and Thornydale. I've had t bone, grilled fish, and shrimp and everything was great. Live one man band on Fridays and Saturdays is a nice twist. Give them a try. Pricing is reasonable for the items I got. Combination plates around $13.

Combo #13

Everything is good! Food is delicious. Waitress is very friendly. We had combo #12 (Beef Tamale, chili relleno & ground beef taco) and #13 (green chili pork).

#12 but I got the shredded beef taco instead of a ground beef taco. Delicious

I rolled up at 530 in a Thursday evening and was greeted by a great entertainer on the patio strumming live music. Food is great - thick, golden corn tortilla chips and deep, smoky salsa, tacos dorados and a fantastic spicy margarita made with fresh lime juice! The tacos were juicy and plated beautifully with lettuce, onions, avocado and crema. The beans and rice, which are usually an after thought were well seasoned and delicious! The service was friendly and fast - Eva was so sweet and accommodating! I will be back AND bring friends!

Thoughts on the dishes we tried: - Guacamole and chips: pretty good but not standout - the next time we came back, we just stuck to the chips and salsa which were tasty and filling - Ribeye: great for sharing for 2 people; the char on the meat is delicious and the dish comes with a cheese quesadilla, grilled onions, rice, and refried beans. We ended up with leftovers to take home. - Enchiladas: choose your meat and sauce to top it. I opted for the shredded chicken with green (poblano) sauce. The sauce packs a hint of spice but is a bit creamy too, and the enchiladas are packed with meat and are filling. - Quesadilla: similar to enchiladas, choose your meat or cheese only. My husband ordered the carne asada which was marinated well and flavorful. The quesadilla had good meat to cheese ratio and comes with sour cream and guacamole. Both times we left with happy and full bellies as well as leftovers. Good meals overall!

My faves were the coco nido wings (wings with coconut rum glaze), the Stoner fried rice, and the ahi wonton tacos (cucumber, jalapeno, soy ginger, Chubasco aioli, wasabi peas). For my drink, I ordered the Fogcutter (vintage favorite combines a blend of light rum, cognac, gin, orgeat, fresh orange and lemon juice, and is finished with a port float), refreshing and not too sweet. We implemented the 'take 1 and pass left" maneuver to share all the dishes amongst us. We had a great time eating and comparing notes. There were 2 bartenders and 1 dude running food. it's not a place to eat fast. You have to be willing to chill and take in the vibe. Half the people in our party had just arrived to town so it was the perfect, festive yet low key, speakeasy setting for our party. I got a lot of in-law family points picking this place. This was my 2nd here and both times have been super fun. Thank you, Cabali, for a memorable family occasion!

We started with the ABG salad that surprised me because I'm usually not a big fan of Gorgonzola, but the combination of green apple, pecan brittle, and cheese worked really well together and made for a great balance of flavors. For the pizza, we ordered the mushroom pizza and added pepperoni. The sauce was excellent I believe was some sort of a garlic/oil white sauce the mushroom portion was generous which I absolutely love, and the crust was exactly what I look for crunchy on the outside while still soft and slightly sweet inside. My only minor complaint with the toppings is that the $4 pepperoni add on felt a bit light, we only had a 2 or 3 slices per piece. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that our pizza was just slightly overcooked. The bottom was charred all the way around; wasn't burnt to the point of sending it back, but definitely left in the oven a minute or two longer than it needed to be. It wasn't busy when we visited, and it seemed like the employee rotating pizzas was a little more focused on chatting with FOH coworkers than keeping an eye on the oven. I've worked in pizza restaurants for nearly a decade, so I may be a bit more particular than most customers. Realistically, if our pizza had come out even a minute earlier, it would have been a 10/10 meal. That said, I enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back. The quality is there, and I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu in the future.

One of my companions had the shrimp scampi - he always orders this here and loves it. My wife ordered the pasta rustica which came with lots of black and green olives and a good amount of capers. She thought it could have used a little more flavor, maybe some more garlic? Overall we had a very pleasant evening, service was great. The decor here might be getting a little dated - the indoor seating is quite dark, especially when you come in from the blazing Arizona sun!

I ordered the HH cod tacos with slaw, avocado lime sauce, and salsa. They were so good!! The blend of the fresh fish with the slaw....YUMMY. The fish was perfectly cooked. Crisp and not greasy, and so flavorful. I wondered why they delivered a bunch of napkins and ....a few bites in I realized.
