Finally had a chance to check out Victoria Cocina Mexicana and it definitely lived up to the hype! The restaurant is beautiful inside. Very clean with a really cool bar. One detail I loved was the collection of Mexico soccer jerseys on the wall. It was cool seeing the older jerseys from past World Cups. It gave the place a fun touch. The staff was incredibly welcoming and the food was amazing from start to finish. We started with the Mole Chips, which were delicious. The mole sauce was flavorful and the perfect way to kick off the meal. I ordered the entomatadas with scrambled eggs and they were great. Even though it was a hot day, I had to try their Chocolate Oaxaqueño since Oaxaca is famous for its chocolate and I'm glad I did. It was absolutely worth it. Everything was so good that I couldn't leave without dessert, so we ordered the Chocolate Tres Leches cake. It was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. I ordered cheese enchiladas. A corn tortilla with cheese inside with some toppings and a very sour green sauce. I have never had such bad enchiladas. I asked for beans instead of rice, as I explained I don't like rice and onions inside the enchiladas. Got rice and no onions. I let the server know and she said sometimes they don't get her instructions right and brought me some beans. Not a tasty or a good meal. It was something I would expect in a high school cooking class. My wife order was snapper. I thought she enjoyed it. When we got to the car I said, "You enjoyed your meal?". She just roller her eyes. I was surprised. I don't know who the cook was but the food was not good and the service was so-so. This was the second time we have gone to this restaurant and the last, obviously. read more

I am so glad I finally tried this place! The restaurant is large, clean, well decorated and has a few big TVs so we were able to watch the FIFA (sound muted). Chips were crispy flour (vs corn) and the salsa was delicious, with good flavor and a hint of heat). I had the Huervos Guerreros. Amazing! The pork carnitas with tomatillo sauce put it over the top! I had this for lunch, not breakfast. #Winner! My sister had the Quesabirria Consome. She liked the consume (soupy dip), birtia meat, and the beans, but the taco shells were soggy from the lettuce and onion topping, which made it impossible to dip and wasn't quite on point. This seems to be a consistent issue with birria tacos around town. The horchata was fresh made but grainier than she preferred. Portions are generous, in some cases, splittable. Also find having a table in main dining room with staff eating and rolling silver wear tacky. Started with chips and salsa-both very good. Had nice amount of heat. Tried the red chili con carne- nice portions and excellent flavor. Meat very tender. Also had the enchiladas suiza- also very tasty. Came for the World Cup game and had a great time getting to know the bar staff and patrons that are more like regulars. I was so impressed by the menu and can't wait to come back and try more. For this trip we only had drinks and appetizers, but everything was delicious. My margarita was spectacular. And the special event mini chimps with the guacamole were above and beyond. As usual, I consulted the Yelp-o-sphere & my personal 'Try 2son' Yelp collection of places I've been, duh, wanting to try. Ordered a Modelo & a housemade blackberry guava margarita filled with muddled & whole blackberries whose tartness elevated the sweetness of guava nectar & tequila. Served on the rocks. Memorable. Simple. Different. Complimentary freshly made chips were not the least bit oily, thin enough to not hurt the mouth, thick enough to hold the homemade, not chunky (yes!) salsa. Went down so well with our beverages. Onto the mains: the Red Snapper was fresh, perfectly cooked, excellent flavor & generously sized. A must try if you like fish. Came with a side of calabacitas - creamy & best we've had. The other main was a dish I loved ages ago, Chicken Enchiladas Suizas. I had given up on ordering at so many places because of the one note flavor & poor execution. Victoria Cocina's version renewed my love for this comfort dish! Sauce was delicately cheesy, freshly made & laid beautifully upon my 3 enchiladas. (My adult son is a Cheese Master so I know a good cheese sauce when I see one). Victoria is my favorite Mexican establishment in the foothills area in an area that has an endless options! The food really just blew me away in depth of flavor in a cuisine that can have a level of predictability. The moles were incredibly delicious and I got the sweet potato flautas that were so tasty! Service was really great for our large group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The guac also was a big hit for the table. The owner is present in the dining room which is a good sign. The service was friendly and attentive. The chips and salsa brought to the table were a great start, the salsa was very flavorful. I ordered the quesabirria tacos with calabacitas and both items were some of the best I've had in town. The portion was very generous. The quesabirria was extremely flavorful and tender and the calabacitas were simple but full of flavor and not loaded with cheese. The owner was so nice and came by to ask how our meal was. Wow, how have I not tried this place before? If you like Oaxacan Mexican food, this is your spot. Pro-tip= try the Oaxaca Old Fashion. It will blow you away! The woodsy mezcal and chocolate bitters make a perfect combination. We had several items including the snapper, tilapia, rellenos, and tortilla soup. All of it was incredible! Had an excellent dinner at this Oaxacan restaurant. Excellent chips, black bean dip and salsa to start - hard to not want to eat them all. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas which came with healthy steamed rice and the enchiladas were packed full of white meat chicken - no cheese or rice fillers, the sauce was excellent and the whole meal was very filling. The curated menu with vibrant and fresh ingredients offers traditional Latin cuisine - complete with incredible mexcal and tequila cocktails. The margarita flight is an incredible deal and great way to try a variety of their unique recipes! The El Chapolin Colorado was also incredibly refreshing and unique with the skewer of chapolines (or grasshoppers)! We stopped by early on a Friday evening around 5:45pm. The restaurant, which is in the former China Phoenix spot, is spacious and open. The bar is charming and the murals on the walls brighten up the space. Our group of two adults and a 3.5 year old ordered the guacamole, chicken enchiladas suizas (which I shared with my daughter), and the Oaxacan tamale dish was the new on the menu. From a food standpoint, the guacamole was our favorite and quite good. The avocado was chunky and good quality, the guacamole was seasoned just right. Unfortunately, we didn't receive it until halfway through our meal because our server forgot about. I found the chicken enchiladas to have a strong flavor of fryer oil, which was a turn off. The salsa suiza is basically a creamy cheese sauce, that I figured my toddler would like. It's not a dish I normally order or would order again. Additionally, the side of rice was not warmed through. The top of was warm and the center was cold. My husband was neutral on this tamale order. From a service standpoint, our experience was very shaky. From what I could see, they did not to appear to be understaffed at the front of the house. I saw several bus staff on the floor in addition to a couple of servers, but somehow our service was quite slow to get our drinks plus a forgotten appetizer, which ended up being served halfway through the meal. For us, the food and slow service didn't leave us excited to return for another visit. read more

Drop in with a friend on Sunday. I was so excited that I forgot to take pictures, though. I got the Chili Verde. It is Puerco El Chili Verde on the menu. It had to be the best I have ever had. Very flavorful without being too spicy hot, perfect. I also tried the Key Lime Creme Brulee. It was fine, but the lime was too strong and overpowered the Creme Brulee; you might like it. It has a simple decor, but very tastefully done and welcoming. The service was top-notch. The chef even came out a couple of times to check on us. This is a fantastic Mexican place. Even the chef came out and brought chips and whatever our table needed. Great friendly service. Second, the atmosphere. This place is a little small so during the dinner rush it can get busy and build a small wait time for a table. Great bar, and the place is very clean. Lastly was the food. I ordered the quesabirria tacos and they were great. For dessert I ordered the tres leches cake. Both were absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend both! The tacos were flavorful, cheesy, and filling. It comes with three tacos and the dipping sauce really just added to the flavor. Other people at the table ordered different dishes and they loved them! As we were driving around, looking for a place to eat on our visit to Tucson, we pulled into the plaza that had Victoria Cocina Mexicana in it, and I loved the name obviously! So we decided to go in there for some breakfast and instantly up on walking in, I fell in love with the whole vibe it was Beautiful. They have an amazing mural unique decorations. The whole vibe in there is one of a kind truly its own. I love that they have a little bit of their backstory posted up in the front. They have a picture of Bobby Flay from the Food Network and the owner posted up, they came up with a signature meal HUEVOS RANCHEROS CON SALSA DE NOPALITOS, which I got! It was absolutely delicious. Amazing. Mouth watering good!! The chorizo burrito with potatoes was great too! The CAFE DE OLLA COFFEE is one of a kind as well! I had a sip of my husband and had to order my own! Their tea was amazing super refreshing! The owner is so sweet, he came out and talked with us which was a great experience, the waitress was so sweet and helpful! We had dinner here on New Year's Eve and thought the restaurant had a really cute ambiance. Unfortunately, the complimentary salsa served with chips was way too spicy. For appetizers, we ordered tacos, but the carne asada and chicken were too plain. They lacked flavor and could have benefited from something as simple as lime wedges. For mains, we tried the Red Snapper and the Pezcado Europa, but neither was fully cooked. Since they're white fish, it was clear they were underdone, as they were still translucent instead of opaque. Since the restaurant was closing, we decided to send them back without reordering. I got the verde enchiladas to-go (ordered a mix of beef and chicken but only received chicken). They were tasty when reheated the next day, but the salsa on them was really spicy. Overall, while the setting was cute, we didn't love the food. read more

I'm excited to review Victoria Cocina Mexicana. We have been here now, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will find the restaurant in a strip mall on the southeast corner of Oracle Road and Ina. They have made lovely use of a relatively small space, including a full bar. I'm happy to say that dining here any time of the day has been great. The meals are impeccably plated and the food tastes like it's made with... At the risk of sounding sappy...there's nothing other way to describe the food, other than being made with love. The atmosphere is somehow casual and not casual at the same time...meaning you are treated well from the moment you walk in. This Mexican restaurant is nestled in the shopping plaza on Ina and Oracle. The interior aesthetic was cute with murals and neon signs. My Husband and I found that the food was a bit overpriced for how it tasted. We tried the Pollo En Mole Negro and Flautas de Pollo. Both weren't anything to write home about flavor wise. Our server brought us warm corn tortilla chips and salsa while we perused the menu. The salsa is flavorful with a bit of warmth to it, which we enjoyed. We selected lemon agua frescas, which had a perfect balance of sweet and tang. My partner ordered the nopalitos salad, which was served cold. The nopalitos come lightly dressed with onion, tomatoes, and cilantro. He would order this again. I selected Huevos rancheros with scrambled eggs. The Huevos were mixed with a slightly spicy sausage and topped with cheese on a corn tortilla and bean bed. When ordering, I missed that the sausage was mixed in. I separated it to the side for my partner to eat. The egg, cheese, beans, and sauce were flavorful though the sauce was a bit salty for me. The restaurant itself is light, bright, and spacious. I don't leave 5 star review lightly. Victoria earns a full 5 stars! In Tucson for a long weekend from Fort Worth. We both felt like Mexican and wanted something more than the usual. A search on Yelp found Victoria. We were quickly sold on existing Yelp reviews. We started with the chips and fresh salsa, a margarita for her and a Oaxaca Old Fashioned for me. The Margarita was amazing and flavorful - not overly sweet, not overly sour. The Old Fashioned, made with Mezcal can be summed up as delicious. She had the Chicken Enchiladas Mole, I had the Machaca Enchiladas Suizas. Flavor was fantastic, quality excellent. Our waiter was great. Checked on us regularly, not overbearing. Water glasses never empty. The staff exemplifies through service the passion the chef and owner is putting into the quality of the food and drink. A simple decor; emphasis placed on food and customer service as the experience. The restaurant was busy on this Friday night. A great sign.
