Food is great - thick, golden corn tortilla chips and deep, smoky salsa, tacos dorados and a fantastic spicy margarita made with fresh lime juice! The tacos were juicy and plated beautifully with lettuce, onions, avocado and crema. The beans and rice, which are usually an after thought were well seasoned and delicious! Recommend stopping by Humo Cocina Mexicans if you're looking for a solid place on the northwest side for Mexican food. We've been here twice for dinner. Thoughts on the dishes we tried: - Guacamole and chips: pretty good but not standout - the next time we came back, we just stuck to the chips and salsa which were tasty and filling - Ribeye: great for sharing for 2 people; the char on the meat is delicious and the dish comes with a cheese quesadilla, grilled onions, rice, and refried beans. We ended up with leftovers to take home. - Enchiladas: choose your meat and sauce to top it. I opted for the shredded chicken with green (poblano) sauce. The sauce packs a hint of spice but is a bit creamy too, and the enchiladas are packed with meat and are filling. - Quesadilla: similar to enchiladas, choose your meat or cheese only. My husband ordered the carne asada which was marinated well and flavorful. The quesadilla had good meat to cheese ratio and comes with sour cream and guacamole. Humo Cocina Mexican serves delicious authentic Mexican food. Their Margarita's presentation was so fun with the smoke on top! The food was seasoned very well and the meat was tender. The tamales were some of the best I've ever had and I loved my Quesabirrias. We also ordered beer battered fish tacos which weren't my favorite. The interior is very small so we chose to sit at the bar for more space. The bartender was friendly and provided great service. One thing that was a bummer was that they wouldn't turn on sports when we asked. They said that the owner doesn't allow sports to be played? We got to relax on the patio while listening to live music, which made the evening even better. I believe the musician performs every Thursday evening, playing a great variety of music. This is a very cute place! We had a reservation for 5:30 but all the tables were full when we arrived. They do have outside seating as well which was empty since we just had a rain storm. There are a total of 7 tables inside, a bar area where you can sit and plenty of tables outside. There were four of us and once they brought our meals the table became very small. They were a bit slow on refills and my fish tacos initially came out as chicken tacos but they fixed the issue quickly. I also ordered a side of beans. The beans were really good; smoky with a bit of spice. Once the fish tacos came out they were amazing! We also ordered cheese enchiladas which were great. The asada quesadilla was huge!!!! Stopped in for dinner. Sat outside- misters really kept area cool. Drinks and food came in a timely manner and again service could have been better. I understand when you get a large group and it sounded like drink orders were all over the place. It took us standing up about to walk inside for help to pay our bill to get out of there. Had a little date night at Top Golf and stopped by for dinner after since it's so close. We had a guac app, so good! Then my husband had a shrimp burrito swimming in green and he raved about it with every bite. I had a taco platter with asada, birria, and pastor; they were all very good too. Overall we were very happy with the service, meal, pricing, speed, and atmosphere! One thing that did happen that I'd like to share is that we ordered flan to share (as we do literally anywhere we go because it's husbands favorite) and when we got it, with the first bite we both looked at each other because it tasted like soap. For anyone who doesn't know, if you wash silicone in a dishwasher, it will make the food it touches taste like soap, and since the flan was in a molded shape, it definitely tasted like soap. Once we got past the edges an into the middle where it wasn't in contact with the silicone, it was SO GOOD! Ties for our first favorite with Blanco. We told our server who got a manager and we shared the experience with him as just a heads up, something to consider, and he was very gracious and open to the feedback; he even comped our flan! The salsa is delicious. The menudo was very tasty. I wasn't given an option to get a tortillas or bread, but bread was served and it was good. The menudo was rich and flavorful, just the way it should be. I'm not sure what was going on today with the staffing. A lager party seated and ordered before me received their food after I got my food. It's very possible their order just took longer to prep. The amount of staff seemed to increase a by a few folks as the meal went on, but the service was just OK. The server didn't check on me for a bit. I'll definitely try them again. read more

I'm so glad to have this upscale Mexican restaurant in my area. It's a cute boutique restaurant. It's very intimate inside and the have a cozy patio as well. I sat at the bar and had excellent service. I got an iced tea, rolled chicken tacos, and beans and rice. I also asked for a side of hot salsa. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Hello, I waited over 25 minutes for the car in front of me to order and get their food. I pulled up to the window and no one ever came. I waited another 15-20 minutes. Dining room closed, no one else in the drive thru except me. I read some reviews about them having good food so thought I'd give them a try. We moved from California last year where amazing Mexican food can be found around any corner. Thinking it has to be even better in Arizona we hadn't found anything that compares to what we are used to. Until now. Humo has terrific food. I can't say enough good about this place. Friend suggested we check this place out and I'm glad we did! I will say seating was a bit limited, but we got lucky enough to score a table without a wait. Interior was clean with simple but stylish decor. Service was good, staff were friendly, and prices are reasonable. Food was delicious! Tried Humo for the first time--overall, the food was pretty decent. They start you off with chips and salsa at the table, which is always a nice touch. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito and added both green and red sauce on the side (note: there's an extra charge for the sauces). I also got a Lorenza Taco which is a cheese and Asada taco. So today, I tried it again, giving it another chance, as supporting local businesses is important these days. Ordered the battered fish tacos and tea. I asked for no tomato since I allergic. The plate was covered in tomatoes when delivered. Sent back and recooked within 5 minutes.The fish had a lot of bloodline and arrived undercooked. Needless to say, I was afraid to eat it. The tea tasted like it was instant made with tap water, but I was not as concerned with that as I was the fish. When asked what variation of fish was, the waitress said it was tilapia. We ordered the mole wings to start. They were not spicy at all, but did offer a very good mole flavor. My mix and match tacos were delicious even though $14.99 was a tad on the higher side. The beans had a great flavor. I believe you could judge a Mexican restaurant on their beans alone. Service was a little spotty and my biggest issue was that chips and salsa were not given to us when we sat down. In fact, we had to ask as our food was coming out. It was a bit frustrating to see other tables around us with chips and salsa and not us. Minor pet peeve but chips and salsa is a Mexican restaurant staple that is served while looking at the menu. The Humo margaritas are cinematic and pack a punch. Definitely recommend getting the birria ramen the broth is incredibly delicious. Free chips and roasted salsa for the table while you review the menu. Who doesn't love that? The ceviche was huge for an appetizer for a table of three guests. The chicken mole was beautifully presented. Garnished with pickled onions and micro greens and cojita cheese. You have the options to choose your sauce and protein if you choose enchiladas. Vegetarian options are an option too! Our child is quite adventurous with food but he did get a bean and cheese burro and to be honest the beans and cheese alone speak for themselves. Our server Paula was very warm and welcoming. It's quite quaint indoors and tables sit close to one another. So, say hi to your neighbors. Out of the blue attendance with my wife. Took a bit to be seated but we got there. Place is kind of small but don't let that scare you. Literal hidden gem. I researched on Yelp for pictures since I was afraid of it not being authentic, but I was wrong. I should mention the chips and salsa are your standards. I got the an order of their Queso Fundido with chorizo to determine their authenticity. It came out gorgeous and added jalapeños to it to top it off. Tasted amazing. We went ahead and got their Posole and Order of Sopes with Birria. - The Posole with all the sides tasted like we would eat at home, which is GOOD! Also came with FLUFFY bolio/bread on the side that was amazing. - The order of Sopes was visually pleasing. I typically like my Sopes to be sturdy and hold the toppings on it but instead it kind of just broke which caused me to eat with a fork and knife. Outside of that, the meal itself was delightful. Drove nearly 30 minutes on a recommendation from a regular and really wish I hadn't. I expected something of a friendly atmosphere like I had previously experienced at Amelia's, but this was a completely different experience. The vibe felt watered down from the start, and im sure the location had much to do with that. The patio's live acoustic set was more distracting than enjoyable, the missing hitting the notes on the guitar were hard to ignore. Food didn't help. Chips and salsa were forgettable (jar-level salsa, unsalted chips). Queso fundido was fine, but the tortillas were dry and peeling. My tacos came out stuck together like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp, and since our server never checked on us, there wasn't much point in saying anything. Service is where it really fell apart. We were treated like an inconvenience from the moment we sat down, then completely ignored. No check-ins, no follow-up ...nothing. We had to rely on the host (who was great) for basic things like napkins, while our server actively avoided eye contact in a not-busy restaurant. When we finally flagged her down for the check, she came over with attitude and asked, "You wanna close now?" as if we were the issue. Meanwhile, our table sat cluttered the entire time until she suddenly decided to start bussing mid-payment, asking about boxes for food that was already cold and half-eaten. At that point...why bother? I work in the service industry, so I don't say this lightly: this was bad. Mediocre food, worse service, and absolutely not worth the drive or a second visit. read more

Great experience at Humo. This is a small cozy restaurant with a great vibe and excellent attention to detail. We stopped for a quick bite before a concert and really enjoyed it. I'm a chips and salsa snob and they were really good here. The house made salsa is fresh and a bit spicy which I love. I had a barria chimichanga for dinner. It was very good even though I didn't really get barria flavor out of it (next time I would try the barria tacos). I ate it with the green sauce, which I ordered on the side, but soon switched it to eating it with their salsa. My only suggestion is that the cheese on top wasn't really melted properly so maybe either forgo or usually a more meltable cheese. My husband chose some steak tacos off the a la carte menu and really enjoyed them. I personally loved the elevated food presentation (how do they serve everything on personalized cutting boards?). Makes dining so much better. The staff including our server (Rolando?) was also friendly and so helpful. Definitely worth trying.
