I paid $2,200 to replace major steering components and had to come back because of the creaking coming from cheap struts Tips put in my car. When I came back to have the creaking checked out, they charged me $700 for replacement parts and services that didn't even fix the issue and kept my car for 4 days because they kept ordering the same part that wasn't even needed. Please beware, especially if you're a female. The owner, Chris, made comments towards me such as, "You know how you women are" and gave me a small lecture on how I should know the workings of a car, which is interesting considering their job is to fix cars and they weren't able to diagnose or fix the creaking that came from their original job. read more

*NEVER NEVER NEVER* Take your car to TIPS Automotive, I've spent thousands with them only to have it redone by REAL MECHANICS! If I could give it 0 stars I would! First, I live in the neighborhood and want to see a business be successful. I have taken three of my cars to Tips on different occasions, first my genesis to have some engine coils and spark plugs replaced, replaced them with cheap parts after telling me they were OEM, only finding out after taking it to someone else. Next took my daughter car there when it was over heating and they came back with a laundry list of things that after taking it to T3 it just needed some radiator fluid. Third was my Benz, took it to Tips to get some rear brakes, then took the car to the dealer after driving for a couple months to get a tired replaced and they told me the rear caliper was locked up and that whoever (TIPS) put the brakes on put the pads on backwards and the caliper was locked and they are surprised I didn't flip the truck. Also once again used NON-OEM parts! They never returned my call and never could get Chris on the line. DON'T EVER take your car to this place for anything! They are they worst place to do business with! I've been there before and there was a lady there crying because she had been waiting for her car over a week and they kept saying the part they got was defective and she was at risk of losing her job. Exhaust your options before taking your vehicle to this shop. They used inferior replacement parts and marked them up significantly higher than msrp. In addition, they are not the best option for complex repairs. In addition, they don't honor their word! That's a big problem! read more

Edited 5/17/2022: Chris and his team (Max, great guy) took the additional time necessary to correct all issues sans trim bolts, and deliver my truck my in great form and without the main point of complaint. While the timeline still leaves much to be desired, no shop is perfect and this is probably a minor issue compared to the service performed. I absolutely rescind my complaints as far as the initial install, and would recommend Max to perform clutch-related work in the future. All the best to his team, John. --prior review-- I'm presently on my third trip to TIPS automotive, with my vehicle still being worked on. This review is for my first two trips which could have been better. I first contacted TIPS automotive for a routine clutch replacement in October 2020. The shop recommended I pay for a new flywheel as well as the clutch, and I agreed. After 2-weeks of negotiating on a drop off date due to parts (clutch and flywheel) unavailability, I dropped off my vehicle with the understanding that the work would take approximately 48 hours to complete. We discussed the repairs and I expressed my desire that the shop pay close attention to the throwout bearing replacement routine as there was a Toyota Service Bulletin issued in 2010 that identified the need to pack high-temperature grease both within the throwout bearing grooves as well as among the bearing surface of the protruding quill to help avoid issues with the release bearing chirping / sticking / rattling due to insufficient lubricant. The gentleman on the phone assured me they would pay close attention to everything, and I need not worry. After drop off and 3 days with no call-back, I called for an update and was told that the vehicle was only recently pulled into the free bay and it would be an additional two days due to unforeseen delays. Despite the delay, I attempted to remain positive and was really hoping to receive my vehicle back. Unfortunately, I cannot say that my returned vehicle was in the condition I would have expected given all of the positive reviews I'd read - it seemed like they had a really bad run of things, maybe a bad day after the install, and just rushed to reassemble. The interior of my vehicle had grease / black stains on the interior roof headliner, my cowl/dash trim was loose/protruding on the driver's side near the pillar towards the fuse box, and the front center console was detached and missing trim bolts. The gentlemen at the front desk was able to snap the loose trim into place while I was standing there but we didn't notice the missing trim bolts until I arrived home. I gave the shop a first opportunity to fix this mistake by calling and asking about the missing bolts, and was assured that they had them and "would take care of me" if I returned. After the conclusion of the weekend I returned and asked for my trim bolts, and was handed a small ziplock bag with several assorted trim "clips" and two undersized bolts that obviously didn't fit my vehicle. I left without leaving a negative review initially due to everyone having a bad day once in a while, and overall I hoped that they would make up for it in the future - I was mistaken. After approximately 7-10k miles with the new clutch and flywheel, I noticed a chirp when the vehicle is in idle with the clutch engaged. I called the shop back and was told that due to it being approximately 14 months since the repair it was probably an unrelated issue and/or they could do research and if it were a known issue they could report back. After the research we agreed that the clutch throwout bearing and bearing surface on the quill was the likely cause. (Please remember that I brought this to their attention prior to the initial work). Despite bringing this issue to their attention during the initial repair sequence, I agreed to source a custom crafted quill sleeve, pay for a new throwout bearing and machining of the bearing to match the custom quill sleeve, and fully pay for labor if they were to perform the repairs. The necessity of the custom quill sleeve is due to wear on the aluminum quill sleeve, which may or may not have been caused by insufficient lubricant, but is an absolute necessity now due to the chirping and rattling of the "new" throwout bearing that TIPS installed. read more

My car died at a gas station up the street from Tip's. I had my 88 year old mom and my dog in the car with me and it was 97 degrees outside. AAA was going to take 2 hours to get there and their arrival time kept getting pushed. I asked a gas station customer to give me a jump although I was convinced it was the starter. That didn't work. Hot and frustrated, I just randomly googled auto shops near by and called Tips and shared my situation. They agreed to help! I actually started crying ! Chris came to the gas station, saw that it was a very dead battery and there was a lot of corrosion. He jumped it with their handy powerful machine, and I drove to the shop and they fixed me right up! I had a nice conversation with Kimberly while we waited. Hate to leave negative reviews for local shops, but I've been burned by TIPS twice. Took my car a couple years ago when my clutch was not functioning properly. Thought it just needed fluid. They told me they need to replace the slave cylinder. Quoted me a cost of about $150 and they were pretty sure that would fix it. $200 later and they decide the clutch needs to be replaced; will probably run another $750. I decide to get a second opinion. I take my car to a specialist. They say the master slave cylinder for the clutch was leaking. $250 repair. They said the clutch didn't need to be replaced. My only regret was not taking it there sooner. I only went to TIPS because it was close by and I thought this would be a relatively minor job. They are never getting my business again. That was my 2nd bad experience with them. In 2015, I had work done my axle (CV joint replacement?). As I drove my car home, I noticed that every minor bump in the road felt like I was driving into an 8 inch deep pothole. Thought it might just need to be broken in. A few weeks of this and it only slightly improved. Finally, one day I'm looking at my left front tire and notice that something looks off. I decide to take the air pressure: 65 PSI!!!!! And the tire had a slow leak, so it was probably higher than that when they did it. Recommended pressure is 35 PSI. My right front was at 45 PSI. WTF? I don't trust this shop at all. read more

So I needed new brake pads for my car. My brake pads were literally so thin that it made a grinding noise when i moved my car. I was so scared to drive anywhere!! Never ignore signs of a businesses decline. Where do I start. There emissions machine is broke. He has all new machanics( I will go into further about the one who should not be one). Bathroom dirty, rugs falling apart and windows dirty just to name a few. Let's move on to what happened to my car. My check engine light came on in my van. I go to autozone find out I just need a sensor replaced. Take my car to TIPS. They supposedly fix the sensor I ride off within 10 mins my check engine light came on. I go back come to find out (Mushmouth the mechanic) pulled the wrong sensor. We go back Mushmouth says " oh boy I pulled the wrong sensor". If it was my shop I would have done the work myself to keep my good businesses name. Anyway they claimed to have fixed it. 10 minutes after we pull off again check engine light comes on again. We go back Chris tries to tell us its a new code this time ( you know the old you know how old cars do fix one thing another breaks game) We get a second opinion to find out they never fixed it its still coming up the code his dumb employee claimed to have fixed After going back again with them calling Chris multiple times no answer. Fuming after 3 days no call we go back to get our money back and sad to say found out Chris lied about fixing it after Mushmouth messed up. I'm a big fan of TIPS. They're a neighborhood mechanic so it's a very different feel than you might be used to at a dealer or chain shop, but they get the job done well, fast, and at a good price. I once had a shimmy in an SUV that hadn't gone away after 3 shops and several hundred dollars of "try this, try that"; finally one (highly rated) shop nearby told me I could leave it with them for approximately TWO WEEKS and they'd figure it out. I took it to TIPS instead and they had it diagnosed within 20 minutes and fixed in about 2 hours--on a Saturday, no less. I've also never really needed to make an appointment as long as I show up early in the day, which is nice for a phone-averse millennial like myself. read more

Don't. I've visited them a few times to make my final decision. The first visit they installed calipers and didn't replenish the brake fluid. They are nice people but, they installed a stereo for me and I had to go back. When I attempt to explain my problem to the mechanic, the mother jumped on the phone and insinuated that I was trying to date the young man. I read the instructions for the install and discovered that they hadn't purchased the supplementary part for my model. The third and final visit was the last straw. He couldn't find the part I needed. So I went on-line while I was there at the shop. I found that the total for my parts on line were $250 less. While they were the exact same parts, he argued that they frown upon customer provided part. The parts have a one year warranty whether I buy them or you buy them. He told me that he didn't need a lecture. I left with the intent of returning. But they've made to many mistakes. Not to mention that installing my windshield wipers was close to $80.00. When I went to this place, they kept my car all day to perform car wash. By the time I retrieved the car, it was streaked and obviously allowed to dry while wet. However, the worker saw my "Lyft" sticker and volunteered that the company does carwashes for Lyft vehicles for 50% off list price. Although their work was less than good, I figured a car wash for $12.50 could not be too bad. When I returned, the mechanic advised that they had no such special and would not honor that price. He acted like I made the price up and was not friendly at all. Their list price of $25 is ridiculous since most car washes in the area are around $10-$12. To act like I made the price up was insane. Whoever heard of car wash scammers who want their cars washed but made up a price to somehow get over. I will never waste my time here again and I cant wait for this company to go out of business. Met the owner a few months back for an emission test. Told me he worked on my model car so I considered him for future repair. Had a transmission leak and had vehicle towed to shop. $85 inspection fee and they never looked at the vehicle!!! Had it towed to Barron's and they diagnosed the simple fix in 30 minutes. I hate to do this. In fact, I tried not to do this by making a repeated simple request that went unanswered. People value mechanics they can trust. TRUST is the MOST important aspect of mechanics next to auto expertise. I chose "Tips Automotive" because it was cheaper than others. What's the saying?..."You get what you pay for". "Annie H" complained about the phone etiquette at Tips and she was right. When I called, I didn't even know I had reached a business! Chris Burney (the owner) picked up the phone without a greeting or telling his name or the name of the shop (on numerous occasions). When the work was done, Chris sent an "E-receipt" to my email and told me he would send me another receipt which broke down all the work done and the cost of each specific job. I checked for it that day and didn't get it, so I called him and asked for it. He said he has not forgotten and would do it as soon as he got time. It never came. A month or so later, I noticed my engine coolant was abnormally low and that my car was smoking under the hood. When I checked under the hood, the engine coolant cap was not even twisted on! I simply lifted it right off the container. I called Chris Burney to ask if he or his mechanics had ever removed my cap during their work and he said they had no reason to touch the engine coolant. I told him they were the last ones to work on my car and he said they didn't touch the engine coolant. He took the opportunity do more costly work to fix this new issue I was having. I asked him for the receipt that was promised those months ago. He told me his receipt printing machine was down (....???? reeeeeaaaally) So he says he will email it as soon as his guy comes to fix it. I texted him my email again and again. I called and asked for this receipt numerous times. It never came. TO THIS DAY. Now I have a brand new car and my old one was traded in because the head gasket was blown. Thanks Chris Burney of TIPS (TWISTED INTENTIONZ under performance shop-lifters). Maybe they didn't take the cap off, but in the end, why can't you do the simplest most basic job in business...which is to provide your customers with detailed receipt?? Maybe that would incriminate you and hold you accountable for your mistakes or misdeeds. Save yourselves the trouble and pay the price for quality service, a good receipt, people who answer the phones properly, people who operate with honor, and for shops that have warranties on the work they do. I am mechanic and own my own shop. Today I rode with a customer/friend to have her second (free) emissions test done after failing the first one done at this shop. Today she passed but was charged for the test again. The lady behind the counter said you have to have the paper showing you failed which I have never had to have at any other emissions testing location. The mechanics all look to be under 25 years old. Very poor business. You will get taken at this shop! read more

Not sure if this helps, but here goes. I decided to try this shop to have some work done. The 1st day went in for an estimate and the receptionist was very courteous and accommodating; that was a good start. However, an hour had past then 2...(so, I figured things were extremely busy for the mechanics). Went back to the receptionist after no correspondence from anyone( oh did I mention that two hours had passed). To find out nothing.....you would have thought that would have been the lesson. Well, I believe everyone has 'off' days. Went back the second day and was given a quote...and it was fine until we get to the part where your words speak volumes. I was told by the owner( who by the way is one of the mechanics) that the work needed would only take 2hrs or at least be done by close of business. Day 3...took my vehicle in at 10:30a / 4:30p same day I called to find out the status of my vehicle because I hadn't heard anything from the shop. 6:15p the mechanic calls to tell me he got the wrong part and would have it on Day 4 around 9:30a( not sure what he wanted me to say). Day 4 at 2:30p I received the call stating my vehicle was ready. So far my car is working fine...doubt if I'll go back. Hopefully, they'll get better on their communication skills and word of doing something when they say they are going to complete it. Only got 2 stars because of the receptionist's customer service. read more
