When I first arrived, I was the only one there (it was 9:30 on Sat morning) and everyone was so friendly. I'm new to the area and was looking for a new nail salon for my bi-weekly manis and pedis. When I looked up Tip N Toe Nails on yelp, their page said that walk-ins were welcome. I headed to their establishment early one Thursday morning. I tried calling before I arrived, but no one picked up the phone. When I entered the salon, there were about 5-6 people receiving services, so it was apparent that they were busy. 2-3 of the nail technicians looked up when I arrived but did not greet me or ask me what I needed. It took about 3-4 minutes before someone acknowledged that I was standing by the door. The nail technician asked what services I wanted. I responded that I wanted a gel mani and pedi. She then asked if I had an appointment. I did not. Then she said they were busy and could see me at 4pm. Typically, I am given the option of waiting with a specific wait time, which is expected for walk-in clients at other establishments. However, at Tip N Toe, there was certainly a different feel. Perhaps they should revise their policies and remove "walk-ins welcome" because I certainly did not feel welcomed. After leaving, I read some of their reviews and wish I read the reviews before making my drive to the salon. I ended up finding another salon nearby who picked up their phone when I called and saw me right away. Please reconsider your visit to Tip N Toes if you are planning to walk-in. read more

Unfortunately, I seem to be one of the rare, few that did not have such a pleasant experience at Tips N Toes Spa. The nail salon itself was spacious and clean but my overall service was no better than some of the cheaper nail salons I've been to. The lady that did my pedicure must have been having a bad day because she was quite rough when she didn't need to be and too soft when she shouldn't be. She commented that my nails were cut too short (sorry, but it's a little hard to trim them just right when you have any 8 month preggo belly in the way) yet she painfully poked and prodded getting way too deep into the bed of my nail. I asked her if she could just file instead yet that still ended up all crooked. I had some glitter polish on my toes which can be a little difficult to take off but will eventually come off with polish remover and some patience, yet she went about it with what I thought was the lazy way by using a grinder to scrape off the bits of glitter. I am NOT a fan of places that use grinders because I find they weaken my nails and are unsanitary. When it came to exfoliating my feet, she barely put any effort into scrubbing them so my feet did not feel soft afterwards at all. The lotion massage was also weak. I'm a tiny girl and it doesn't take much pressure for me to relax but this felt like someone just barely smoothing lotion back and forth over my feet. The end result was just a so-so pedicure with streaky application of polish and misshaped toe nails. I sat there for quite a while as I noticed others that finished around the same time I did being helped by their nail tech when it was time to leave, yet not once did my gal ever come over to check on me. I was pretty much the last one left from the crowd that arrived the same time I did so I finally had to gesture to someone else that I was ready to leave. Maybe I just happened to get one of the not so good nail techs but this was definitely not worth the drive and amount I paid for. read more

I had read a review on this nail spa and decided to try it since I desperately needed a pedicure. I was not disappointed! What a warm and calming place to be with very nice staff. They greeted me and I sat down and asked if I would like anything to drink. There spa chairs are great, nice and comfy and smooth just like I like it. I have tried several nails salons in San Ramon over the years and this one is on the top of my list. They do not push you into buying anything. I was so relaxed I could have fallen asleep. One thing I really liked is they do not carry on conversations amongst themselves in their language with you sitting there wondering what the heck they are saying. May who greeted me is very nice and Hillary who did my toes and nails was very sweet and did a super job. They are not anymore expensive than any of the other salons. I have been searching for a new place ever since my last bad experience. I used Yelp to help me find my next place, and the reviews at this place were so great I thought why not give it a try. I took my 15 year old for a post Christmas treat and we each signed up for the mani/pedi. As soon as we walked in the door I new we were going to be happy. The place is so clean and beautifully appointed and we were welcomed by a lovely lady with a big smile. We checked in and were given the color menu and offered our choice of beverages. We were seated almost immediately. The color selection was fantastic, and they also offered to mix and match, add glitter etc. Neither of us could decide on a color, so we described what we were looking for and what they recommended was perfect! The chairs are so comfy and they use fresh lemon slices in the foot bath. The pedicure was amazing. I opted for the optional sea salt scrub and I recommend that to everyone, it was so worth the added small cost. My legs havent been this soft since birth! The massage was great, and there was even some reflexology thrown in. My feet and legs look and feel terrific. The color they helped me pick out was perfect. The manicure was terrific too, as was the color. My daughter was equally satisfied. The whole time we were getting our services done, the lady who greeted us kept checking on us, offering drinks, asking how we were doing, asking if we liked everything so far, and even called us by name each time! We were so incredibly thrilled we cant wait to go back. Couldnt recommend high enough to anyone wanting a great mani/pedi experience. read more

My mani/pedi experience at Tips N Toes was wonderful. The place was clean and all of the technicians were friendly and seemed to know what they were doing. The spa chairs were very comfortable and they had a good selection of colors. I am very particular about sanitation and was pleased that they used bowls for the pedicures instead of the built-in spas which can become dirty if not meticulously cleaned. The technicians opened the sanitized instruments in front of me and used new files and buffers which demonstrated to me that they take their sanitation procedures seriously. That's why I was surprised that the waxing technician "double-dipped" the stick while having my eyebrows waxed. I had to knock down a 5-star rating to only 4 stars! I glanced at the licenses displayed on my way out and could see that most of the technicians were manicurists and, perhaps, did not have the full cosmetology license required to do waxing. I didn't want to make a scene but next time I will specifically ask the technician if she has a cosmetology license and make my sanitation expectations clear. BTW, I found this at the California Department of Consumer Affairs - Consumer Guide to Barbering and Cosmetology Services Waxing Only licensed cosmetologists and estheticians may perform waxing. Manicurists cannot perform waxing. If you receive waxing services, always look at the wax and the container that is holding the wax-- make sure that it is clean and kept in a sanitary manner. An example of unsanitary operation is if the operator is re-dipping the instrument (stick) into one big wax container and then applying that wax onto your skin. Anything that cannot be disinfected before it comes into direct contact with a person needs to be disposed of in a waste receptacle immediately after use. This includes the wax and the instrument(s) used to apply the wax. read more

I'm very happy to report that my nails are practically flawless! This is the first time in the 2.5 years that I've been getting no chip that they lasted this long! I have been here twice now. Both times my nails turned out great and lasted as long as I had hoped! Nice, clean salon with cash discounts. Both times though I had to wait about 30-45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time before I could be seen. I'm not sure if I had shitty luck twice in a row or if they took too many walk ins or overbooked or what. Last appt, I booked a regular mani/pedi and specifically asked to have both done at once over the phone. About 90 minutes after my scheduled appt time, my toes were finally done and they were just about to start on my nails, but I didn't have time to stay :/ If they could start me within 5 minutes of my appt time I will definitely continue coming here. Also, I'm not sure I find the practice of doing the mani and pedi at the same time to be very relaxing. I relocated to a new area and had to find a new place for my mani and pedi. I found this place off yelp and had to check it out since it had such great reviews. I was impressed with the service my first time and how clean the establishment was. I normally get a pedi every 3 weeks to a month with my other place. I had a pleasant first time experience and decided to come back a second time. When I came back the second time I had a wedding to attend to in Lake Tahoe so I had them give me a french pedicure. The lady was also nice and the service seemed ok the second time. I went home and the very next day when we arrived in Tahoe I noticed I had to chips on my toes which I have no idea how it happened?? I was there for 3 days and by the time I got back home almost all my tips were chipped off on my toes. I ended up going back one more time with my hubby for a pedicure to give the place another shot. The lady I started with ended up switching with the lady next to me who was already pretty much done with the other customer. I guess she couldn't do the nail design that the client was asking for so they switched over. The lady only removed the nail polish that I originally got before she switched. As soon as the other lady came over I watched her go to the side and grab new towels and supplies. She sat down with the same gloves she used on the other client and tried to reach for my foot and I told he to change her gloves and use new supplies. I was kind of grossed out but I also could tell she was a little flustered and wasn't thinking. I explained what happened to the lady I had the second time around for the french pedi and she told me they all use different polishes. I guess they choose their own top and base coats? She told me she has a better one and not to worry. So this time I went with a solid dark color for winter and I still had a pleasant experience. When we were done she charged me $28 and also my hubby $28. I was surprised because our last place had a Men's pedi for cheaper because they don't use polish. That is pricey for a men's pedi to me. After we left the next day my big toe chipped. I didn't have time to go back nor did I want to have to explain it all over again. I ended up with 2 more chips and decided not to go back. I think this place is great for the service, designs, and fake nails sets. As for natural nails, the polish on the toes don't last long. I would normally go to my other place in Walnut Creek and the polish won't chip until my next visit. They charge $23 for a pedi and the service is just as great! Guess I'll make the drive to WC and spend the day walking around downtown with my long lasting polish ;) read more

Truly a five star experience at Tips and Toes Spa! I went after a grueling day at work and left completely relaxed and satisfied, which honestly is not easy to do with me. The consumer service is awesome, they are so welcoming and make sure that your needs are met throughout the visit without overdoing it. The decor is very nice just admiring it alone was calming, and I guess it helped its decorated in my favorite color scheme. They either have calming music playing or it was the music in my head :) at any cost I enjoyed it! As for my services received, full set of French Tips and a Sea Salt Pedi, both were meticulously executed I am completely satisfied the best yet of the 5 I've tried in San Ramon who are after coming here, not worth mentioning! All the employees are very nice and friendly. The place is clean from what I can tell. I have been here twice and they do a decent job, but nothing extraordinary. Some of the polishes are old or dried out, and instead of using a new bottle, they'll just try to use it, which left my manicure clumpy and lacking. I would like to see more color options. This is a very pretty, calm, and relaxing nail spa. My shellac manicure and regular pedicure came out very nicely except for a few scratches around my big toe from the manicurist buffing out my nail polish on my toes, which is one of the reasons I couldn't give this place five stars. I really liked the experience and appreciated their gel manicure colors having a matching non-gel nail polish for my toes. The manicurists were friendly and nice. The other reason why I didn't give them five stars is because you can't tip without cash and since this was my first-time visit, I didn't know. They don't have an ATM and there isn't an ATM anywhere in the shopping center. Thus, you have to drive down the street in search of an ATM, bank, store, etc... that was frustrating, especially since I was in a hurry to run errands. I didn't feel right not tipping them because they really did a great job and I had a nice, relaxing experience. Also, they kept my appointment time which is quite rare for a nail salon. I went there for an Acrylic nail removal($10) as well as a Mani/pedi ($40) It was amazing! They acrylic removal was painful (as it always is) but they tried to do it as fast as possible to limit the pain:) The manicure pedicure was very nice and relaxing. They even give a nice arm/hand massage as well as a very deep tissue foot massage which felt so good! I give a ten/ten and will defiantly come back.
