I ordered two FRESH turkeys for Thanksgiving and was given two frozen with an excuse that "they came in frozen". I did not receive a call to let me know they were frozen so I could pick them up sooner to have time to thaw nor was I given any other options. I paid $3.99/lb for a frozen turkey that should have been fresh. I feel incredibly ripped off. We have ordered turkeys from Tischler's in the past and have been very satisfied however, this will be the last time as we are now left to scramble on thawing two frozen turkeys 48 hours before we are set to be serving dinner to 16 people. read more

I have been ordering fresh turkeys from them for at least a decade. This thanksgiving they had an unfortunate issue with their supplier which the not only the staff but the owner was beyond apologetic refunding my turkey. This is the reason why everyone should support small family operated local businesses. They have integrity and care about their customers. The quality of everything my family receives from them is above and beyond the steaks are amazing. They debone my leg of lamb for Easter their burgers everything is high quality and with no doubt they stand behind everything they sell. I have to tell you that I've been very disappointed in your meat products over last 6 months. I've bought steaks that go bad in 2 days, slimy beef sticks, chicken that smells, meats on display look brown like they have been sitting. I've been going to your market last 7 years. But, I'm starting to go elsewhere. My friends comment me with same thing. Did you change suppliers? Why are your plastic bags so thin they break when carrying meats out of store? What is going on? I'd appreciate understanding how your store is dropping after so much good stuff last years. Your prices are high so I expect the best meat as you used to sell. But can't justify There used to be lines and I had to take a number to get waited on. But not really anymore. When I go in I barely have to wait. I hope that this comment is received well and I am trying to give good feedback. It would be a shame if all the hard work put in building a customer base is lost and store closes. Went here for the first time the other day with my wife. Picked up some tomahawk pork chops, "prime" BI ribeyes and a few different kinds of sausage. First, we loved the selection they have. Awesome small local market. Duroc chops we had were fantastic. Brined them and grilled them and they were great. We grilled the ribeyes tonight and we're totally disappointed. No way these are prime steaks. I had suspicions before I even bought them just based on marbling and how they looked, but we tried them anyway. I should have gone with my hunch in hindsight and selected an alternative protein. Cooked perfectly mid rare and man were they tough and chewy. Walmart sells better ribeyes than these particular ones we bought. They must've been either graded wrong or incorrectly labeled at the market because NO WAY prime. Super disappointed because we spent $90 for 2 of them. Suffice it to say, we really did enjoy the other items we bought and we will be back. read more

Great little meat market. Everything is always fresh and of high quality. Not quite the selection that Ream's has but still a great spot. I love their burger patties, lots of different flavors/seasonings to choose from. I recommend checking out Tishler's if you have not already done so. I've been enjoying Tischler burgers and Italian sausage for many years. They have a very nice selection of burger and sausage combinations. My personal favorite is the Black and Blue Grillmaster. However, the Tischlers Original never disappoints, it may actually be the freshest burger I've ever tasted. When we have barbecues the Tischlers Original is always the star of the show. Everyone, and I mean everyone always asks my husband where'd he get the burgers. While eating all you can hear is mmm mmmm mmmmm. They're that good! I can only describe them as tender, flavorful and almost like a melt in your mouth kind of thing. In addition to the delicious section of meats - the service here is excellent. Everyone is friendly, helpful and pleasant. Although their closing hours are clearly posted, if you come to the door while they're still inside they will welcome you in for a purchase - if you know what you need from the back. I have and will continue to frequent Tischlers, even though I've moved further west. Once you eat here, be sure to tell your friends because friends don't let friends eat grocery store meat! read more

DO NOT BUY FILET MIGNON HERE. Absolutely terrible. I bought it once and it fell apart thought it was just a fluke at $30 a pound. So about a year later I buy another set of filet mignon $42, just for the two only to open them up and throw them on the grill, they fell apart! Held together by string and meat glue. If you have not tried Tischler's Meat Market then you absolutely must! I currently live in Virginia and every time I get back to Illinois I place an order ahead of time to get the sausage they sell. The mild Italian, Hot Italian, Brats, Beer Brats, Oktoberfest Brats and the Tuscan sausages are delicious! No place else makes them any better. We cook the sausages on the grill, in the oven, on pizza and in the slow cooker, they all cook up any way perfectly. Everyone there is always friendly and willing to help. If I wasn't traveling so far I would have gotten some of the sides they had. Love this place! read more

Yesterday I went to Tischler's on my way home from a doctor's appointment. I only intended on purchasing ham, cheese, and bread to make grilled cheese for dinner. But of course, I found more fun items to buy. As I walked around with full arms, the lovely cashier left her counter and walked over to me. She said, "I can see your hands are full, let me take your items and place them over by my check out station so you can shop and look around more comfortably". I have never had a bad experience at Tischler's market. These small kind gestures are why I will continue to shop small and support this wonderful business. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! By far the ONLY place I will go to buy meat. Anywhere else doesn't even come close to the quality they sell here. The meat counter is like a wonderland. The custom made burgers are delicious. The people behind the counter are either happy or cranky, it just depends on who you get. The reason I don't shop there is simple. Their prices are so high, it's just impossible for me to spend that much. The stuff I have purchased there has been very good, and always fresh. I just can't afford their prices. One time i went and bought a few dozen custom burgers when they were on sale. When I went to checkout, the gentleman there gave me the senior discount. The next time I went, on the same day of the week, no senior discount. Either you offer one or you don't? Been getting meat here for awhile now. They deserve a review. Today it was brisket burgers. Yes you read that right brisket ground and made into a burger patty. Also the cheddar bacon burgers. My vote is the brisket burger, they were thick and juicy. The thinner patty was cheddar burger and seemed to dry out. I do cook burgers medium well so might have sped up the dry out. I picked up a couple NY strip steak for tomorrow night. My wife uses the chicken breast from here to crock pot them for chicken tacos. 2 breast will feed a family of four easily. They have flavor and are Meaty not slimy like the chicken from Jewel. One complaint..... The price. Tischlers is not cheap at all. However if you are looking to indulge on quality meat for a great meal then this is your shopping stop. My boyfriend and I just got home from a quick trip to Tischler's. We had gone in looking for sliced white cheddar cheese and remembered that they had pig ears that we love to give our 3 Labs, so even if we didn't find the cheese we'd be able to spoil our dogs. We also love supporting small businesses. We walk in and within 30 seconds are greeted by a lady behind the counter, we explained we were just looking, thanked her and continued on. We immediately saw the smoked pig ears, as well as cooked bones. Being the excited dog parents we are we picked up 3 bones and 6, which then turned into 9 pig ears. We continued to look through the store and once I discovered they didn't appear to have sliced white cheddar, we headed to the register. Both registers were open and we stood in line for the one to the left as you face the front of the store. Now this is why I took 3 stars off, because our experience was ruined simply by our checkout process. My boyfriend walked up and set our basket on the counter, he wasn't thinking and wasn't sure if he needed to take the items out, so he didn't. He says that's when he heard the gentleman who was checking us out, mutter "are you serious?" I didn't hear it, but I did l hear my boyfriend say "sorry, what did you say?" And the guy shook his head and shrugged it off. We continue on with the checkout process, not thinking anything of it. I then noticed that his mask has the St. Louis Cardinals logo on it and pointed that out to my boyfriend, as I'm a fan. I then spoke up and said "Usually you get crucified for wearing that around here." My attempt at making conversation but the gentlemen said nothing. He's ringing us up, not saying anything or directing us. So at one point my boyfriend asks if it's okay to insert his card, the guy tells him to wait. The cashier then asks if it's credit or debit and my boyfriend says debit and the guy tells him to swipe his card, he apparently thought my boyfriend was an idiot or didn't hear him and in a degrading tone repeated that he was to swipe his card. My boyfriend finishes his transaction and the cashier is bagging our items. He had bagged the cooked bones in one bag and was grabbing a bag to put the pig ears in when I watch him reach under his mask to LICK his finger and use it to open the plastic bag on the bag stand. I was absolutely appalled, but didn't say anything. We grab our bags and leave and I tell my boyfriend to use hand sanitizer the second he gets in the car. When he asks why, I tell him I'll let him know when we get in the car. I proceed to tell him why and he's disgusted as well. We are in the midst of a pandemic, you think the mask is just for fun?? I mean who in their right mind is so disregarding of proper sanitation during this uncertain time?? We proceed to leave and my boyfriend explains that he left feeling extremely uncomfortable and as if he'd done something wrong. He felt bad, as if the cashier thought he was being a jerk by just setting his basket on the counter and proceeded to take it out on us by being rude, when in reality it's because he wasn't sure what to do with it, but had the cashier corrected him and told him what was expected, he would've gladly obliged. I am pissed off and disgusted. We were extremely excited to stop back into Tischler's since our first experience was amazing!! However, now my boyfriend feels bad and like he's done something wrong when it was the rude and un-hygienic cashier that ruined it for us. Neither of us are in ANY hurry to come back. We'll get our special dog treats and meat needs somewhere else. You also clearly need to have a talk with your employees about proper bagging techniques during this uncertain time, because spreading your saliva onto a bag that I'm touching, putting into my car and bringing into my home during a pandemic, is NOT okay. read more

So let me start by I came here to get steak for a birthday dinner. I won't lie...today was my dogs birthday and the whole family including her had filet for dinner. So the location is in an interesting spot. It is the little strip that is right before or after Rt 30. It's in a long strip mall area. It was a bigger place than I thought! A long case full of different things. They had pre seasoned meats too and sides to complete the whole meal! I can't wait to go back and try more of it. I found their premium cut fillets perfectly cut we grilled those up with only a little salt and pepper and they were so tender and cut very easily! They were absolutely delicious and can't wait to come back again. Everyone I talked to was helpful and friendly and made a great recommendation between a few that I was deciding on too. read more

My family and I been regular customers at Tischler's for the 15+ years they have been in business. Quality meats and friendly service (Rob needs to chill a bit). I love it when they have dry aged steaks. Prices are comparable or less than other specialty butcher shops. It's not cheap, but quality meats never are. Good products, service is just okay. Older staff isn't as polite as the younger kids. Sometimes they use the "number" to serve customers , sometimes they don't. Just grab one in case they use it. Half the staff didn't have a mask on (Covid mandate in place in county). Their bacon, beef sticks, and stuffed chicken breasts are great. We get a Turkey from them every thanksgiving, and order stuffed cabbage every Christmas. read more

I hav relived in Plainfield for 13 years, and Tischlers has been one the few local businesses that I have frequented loyally the entire time I have lived here. Great steaks, burgers that have turned my kids into burger snobs ("um, mom, this burger doesn't taste like Tischler's" has been grumbled almost every time I have grilled a burger from an inferior meat supplier.) Since the expansion I have been less than pleased. Several times I went into Tischler's and waited only to be skipped over repeatedly. I have taken a number and the staff has called numbers after the one I took (even if I just took it as I walked in the door). I have not taken numbers and then been skipped over. Once I waited for about 10 min. while my husband was in peter rubi. He came in, stood off but kind of behind me and they called him w/ out ever calling me for service. After several times of being over looked I decided they just don't want my money anymore and I quit going. Every couple months I try again and experience the same situation. They're clean and they have quality products but if you are a short female they will skip you by most of the time. read more
