I came here anticipating a good shopping experience but in my opinion, it did not deliver. I went to a mirror to see how my picks were going to look before going to the trouble of the fitting room and found a conveniently empty rack to hang them up temporarily. However a latino woman sales associate came up to me and said, NO, you can't do that, you have to go to the fitting ROOM. Totally ruined my shopping experience. I shooed her away and didn't buy anything. needless to say I did not go to the fitting room. Management here needs to upgrade training for the sales clerks in politeness. read more

I went to return 2 items that I purchase as Christmas gifts in DEC, I had all my receipts . I had paid over 45.00 , They told me that they would only refund 5.00 for each item because I had purchase the items in Dec.2012. I took my items on walk out the door .. plus the items where nicer then there currant stock . What kind of company policy is that !!!!!!! I used to love this store. But I waited in line some 20 minutes yesterday to return something. By the time I was done, the line was about twice as long so I gave up on the idea of shopping. The practice of selling dead sea life, like starfish and shells that no doubt housed crabs and snails, should be outlawed. They have an abundance of dead sea creatures at this store. There are often pillows in the aisles, and the rug section is equally as dangerous. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

Being originally fr suburbs I've loved TJMaxxes and usually find good bargains on brand-name and lesser brand name itmes. There isn't one in SF, so when I heard about the new one opening in San Carlos I thought I'd check it out. I've found the one in San Mateo, closer to me, to be rather small, though ok. Went on opening day- the traffic was bad, which surprised me. The only reason I'm not giving this 4 stars, was that there's only 1 entrance to the retail complex/parking lot which caused quite a headache. Maybe this will improve after the initial grand opening, and once they finish off the apparent remaining construction on the other end of the lot (though it didn't look like there'd be a second driveway). As for the clothes/apparel, I thought it was pretty good selection, comparable to the better TJMaxxs. Floor is fairly big. Saw a good selection of brand-name items, at good prices, shoe selection was also good I think. I spent more time at the connected Homegoods, which I thought had a very nice selection of home and bath items as well as furnishings. I picked up some bath items and kitchen stuff. All in all left the store(s) satisfied. The layout is pretty good and I think once the initial hoopla dies down some, it will be even more pleasant to browse around. read more

What has happened to the TJ MAX/HOME GOODS store? The line to check out was so long it ran into the handbag area and around. When I got close enough I could see they only had 2 cashiers!!! I saw the line manager and asked her why they don't open another cashier station. They were not prepared for a line !!! I bought clothes on line, paid extra shipping and handling to avoid going to the store. Its says, it takes between 8-10 days to receive the items which I didn't mind at all. I received the items in 15 days. Bathing suit that I ordered suppose to be blue color with flowers. I received plain burgundy color. The person who packed my package must be color blind & cant tell the difference plain vs flower design. So I called the customer service to complain. Customer service told me to return the items but I have to pay another shipping& handling even its not my fault. And she also said, If you don't want to pay extra S/H just return the items at the store and bring your box & receipt. They will credit your account. I went to the store and they credit the items but wont give me the money that I paid for shipping & handling. The reason I order on line on the first place is to avoid going to the store but I ended up going there. Stayed in long line & told me they will not refund the full amount of S/H that I paid. Again , this its not what the customer service told me over the phone when I called & complained. I hope the manager will see my rating. Maybe she/he will do something or won't do anything either because they haven't contacted me since I called & complaint. Never again will order on line from them. Watch out! When they make a mistake you're gonna end up wasting your money for shipping & handling. You will get charge again if you need to mail it back. This is for sure *THE BEST* Tj Maxx/Home Goods location I've ever been to. It is huge, and as much as I try, I can never seem to leave empty-handed. Good for my closet, bad for my wallet. You'd be surprised at how quickly things can add up here... Some excellent finds that I've scored/seen: - Alo yoga pants - Calvin Klein activewear - Ralph Lauren cable knit throw - Elie Tahari decorative pillow - Coach flip flops - Jade yoga mat - MPG yoga totes - Egyptian cotton towels - Bubba water bottles As you can see, the list goes on & on... and yes, I am a total Maxxinista. If you love a good bargain and live for the thrill of finding a good deal but don't like to purchase second-hand or thrifted items, then this is the place for you. OMG their workout section is amazing! I've been complimented countless times on the stuff I get from there ("Is it Lulu?" they ask. "No, it's TJ Maxx!" I respond in life-imitating-commerical for sure). Sales associates so friendly and helpful, too. I did try to return a defective water bottle. It still had the tags but I had lost the receipt. The manager wasn't particularly helpful and even a little begrudging when I ultimately was able to exchange it for a different water bottle. Besides this hiccup, it's a great place. TJ Maxx Home goods has just about everything you might need to accessorize your house-- I've found $25 shower heads that sell for $50 at Bed Bath and Beyond as well as towel bars, towel sets, and other random accessories. If you're shopping at BBB (even with the 20% coupons) you're definitely paying too much vs coming here. I don't buy a lot of clothes here so if you're looking for great deals on designer clothes etc, this may not be the best place but in terms of home accessories for the kitchen, bath, and more this is a great place to check out. They also carry random furniture, mirrors, picture frames, and rugs. While the parking lot is a bit crowded some times-- hey its a strip mall with a lot of different stores and I never once have found parking to be a problem. I will agree that the lines to pay can be long at times so I would try to go during off hours like during the day or 1 hour before they close. read more

My friend Kari got me addicted to TJ Maxx this year. I was a smack-talker previously. Smack-talkin' the TJs. Until she started showing me all of the purses she bought, and the cool dresses, and the rockin' hoodies. Biotch! I conned her into taking me there the next time she went. Crrraaazzzyyyy! I am now officially addicted. And I speak for Kari when I say she is addicted too. There is one catch, and it's a big one... Each TJ Maxx is different. Some are awesome and have amazing stuff magically well organized by attentive smart staffers. Some are just crap. In general, TJ Maxx carries the brands I like (Roxy, Quicksilver) and the prices are great. They also have a nice jewelry selection for those of us who buy our own jewelry (not meant as a cap on my boyfriend, seriously). I've been to a bunch of the Maxx's and this one in San Carlos seems to have the best overall experience. The one in Santa Clara in the Mission complex has good stock too, but is much messier. I'm writing this review since I had a positive experience. If I had a negative experience, I would shy away from it because I'm not trying to ruin a business. I intended on coming here just to by Tighty Whities since girls always tell me that they're far cuter than boxer-briefs which kind of caught me off-guard. But what I predicted had come true....I ended up leaving with 3 shirts, 2 pairs of jeans, 5 new pairs of socks, 10 packages of tighty whities and I even bought CK1 cologne. Lines are wayyyyyy too long all the time. I also asked somebody to help me find something and they told me to wait - never came back - 15 min later I asked someone else, same thing. And don't bother ever calling the store for item checks, they will put you on hold and never come back or put you on hold for over 20 min and simply hang up on you. I wandered in here mistakenly because it's connected (literally) to the Home Goods store next door. As I was perusing the housewares, I spied a bunch of snowboard clothing and at first thought that was odd, not knowing I had wandered into a different store. Turns out both are owned by the same parent company. I guess if you're looking for a good bargain on certain types of clothing this might be worth checking out but I'm guessing it's hit or miss ( it's a miss with snowboard clothing) depending on what you're looking for. read more

This location is very convenient! Parking during weekends can be a pain, but I always ended up finding a spot. Decent size of a store; I usually have the best luck in the clothes area. The fact that this location has a HomeGoods store as well is great when you want to check out some items to spice up your home! I have found many great deals over the years in here. This is the best TJ Maxx on the Peninsula! And it's attached to a huge Home Goods! It's much cleaner and brighter than the one in San Mateo, even though I live about a mile from that one, I prefer to drive to San Carlos if I am really looking for something because the selection is so much better. read more

I went to this store today to return an item that I purchased on vacation in June. I could not find the original receipt, but I brought the item with the original tags, as well as my credit card statement, which reflected the transaction. The cashier was unsure as to how to accept a return without a receipt, so she called over a second cashier, who refused to accept the return for the original price. She told me that without the receipt she could only give me $20 for my $60 item, even though I had the original price tag and proof of what I paid on my credit card bill. I then asked to speak to a manager, because I was not willing to accept $20 for my brand new, $60 item; the manager was extremely rude and unhelpful, and ultimately would not accept my return. I kept my item and brought it to another local TJ Maxx and they accepted the return and gave me the full amount that I paid without any hassle at all. I will never go back to the San Carlos TJ Maxx. Horrible customer service experience. read more

Somehow, this TJ MAxx, while bigger and newer than the old TJ Maxx (off of Veteran's in RWC) is much crappier. I haven't found a thing here on the three visits I've made, and I'm a dyed-in-the-wool bargain hunter. And the parking lot is SUPER poorly designed, with traffic backing up and no good place for pedestrians to cross--it's just a mess. read more

This place is so huge I do not even think I have touched all corners! I always find something great here, especially in their own "sale" aisle, sweet!! For being so huge it is actually really clean and organized. I love to get my dogs things here and great for home decor of course and cheap clothes. The parking can suck because it has many other shops in the same parking lot. The associates could have more lanes open and be more friendlier, they aren't mean just not as happy. Definitely recommend if you need to redecorate and new to the area! read more

From all the shops in this same category (Marshalls, Ross, etc) , this is the cleanest, the best organized and the one with best stock.

Great items and tons of discounts. However, last time I went, there was a dog without a leash sniffing other customers, clothing, and barking aggressively at other customers. I complained to the male manager, for both the safety of customers and because it's not very hygienic. But he told me that it was perfectly okay because they're next to a pet store. So you might want to thoroughly look for urine stains, pet fur, and when there the safety of your kids. So really, buy online instead. read more

It's hard for me to walk into this store and not want everything.. so much stuff. I like how it is divided between home good and clothes, showing some organization. The store isn't always necessarily clean but they are so so busy that I can imagine that it's hard to keep up with it all. The prices can be good, the clearance prices are better. I've bought a lot here in the past and keep coming back for more. There are a couple of other big businesses in the same complex so parking is often difficult but not impossible. They also frequently have long lines inside but they open up more registers immediately (in my experience) when they see this. read more

I will give this place props for being one of the better laid out TJ Maxx's and very clean. Yet let us not forget that this is a TJ MAxx. Not Nordstroms. I felt that for what it is, this is way over priced. For being B tier retailer, I would have thought they would have had more bargains. I was wrong. It's no department store so drop those expectations of lots of stock of one item or the latest top fashion but if you're looking for a deal and don't mind last season's fashion at an sweet deal with some top dollar labels this is for you. Shop often and find out when your store restocks so you can get the best deals. Also shop other TJs because each one has something a little different. read more

This is the best store I've been to for them! Parking can be really tough to get close but you will find a spot. Home goods is attached which makes life extremely convenient. They have an amazing selection of handbags an luggage, accessories, and sometimes sunglasses. Their shoes aren't that great for my size but that's to be expected when you are a women's size 7. Their clothing is pretty good. The store is hugeeeee! You can be in there for a while! The fitting rooms are plenty big and the line is always that bad. Home goods isn't very organized but I think it's just a lot of traffic in there. All in all great store! read more

I bought a nautica suitcase there July 3 and the zipper broke today. I tried to return it with the receipt and they won't exchange it because they cannot resell it--really it's not usable either. Had to call customer service they said no as well. But your suitcase at Costco they take everything back. read more

Unlike the other discount stores in the area, this TJ Maxx is organized, clean and well stocked. It's usually busy but the line moves pretty quickly. They have a decent selection-in this case we were looking for sheets. Unlike the 3 other stores we visited prior to stopping at TJ Maxx it actually took a while to go through all of the sheets and choose the set we liked best. I almost always find what I'm looking for here. read more
