Restaurant has a fun, relaxed atmosphere. There is outdoor seating, which I have't tried yet, and an indoor bar, which was pretty full on a Saturday early evening. The booths are very large and comfortable. The service is good and attentive. The food is good, nothing wrong, but nothing special. My dinner arrived at the table stone cold, but the server happily heated it up and returned it and it was properly prepared the second time. I would definitely try this place again. read more

We visited TJ Smiths while visiting from out of town (we were staying across the street) and it was a good choice for dinner. The menu is varied - it's almost diner-sized - and there was some room at the bar when we had to wait for a table. It seems very busy - which is usually a good sign. I had Steak & Cake - a "filet of sirloin" (a what?) and a crab cake. I missed the "of sirloin" part on the menu until I went back afterwards and checked, so the steak didn't look anything like a filet. It's also topped with a glaze I thought was unnecessary, but it was a reasonable sirloin. The crab cake was very tasty. The mushroom risotto was amazing. Next time, I will just ask for a platter of risotto. My wife had Tuscan Tortellini and thought there was a bit too much garlic - which is an amazing opinion from a Brooklyn Italian. If she thinks there's too much garlic, that's a lot. Service was fast and friendly, with decent times between courses. There are a lot of food options, the bar has a good selection of beer (and cider) on tap, and while we had a wait, it wasn't unreasonable for a Saturday evening. read more

The cheesesteaks had no flavor and were greasy. I ordered cheese, mushrooms, and grilled onions. There was very little meat or other items. We forgot the 20% off coupon at the hotel. The manager refused to honor it without the paper coupon and one of our party had to return to the hotel. What terrible customer relations. Outrageous. Do not eat here. There are much better places to eat in the area. I am letting the hotel, The Hampton Inn, know so that they don't recommend this restaurant. We ventured here today for the first time. We wanted somewhere that would please both my "light fare" appetite and my boyfriend's carnivore cravings at a fair price that wasn't TGI-Tuesday's. We both said we'd go here again. We went for lunch and we both liked our food. The desserts looked good enough to come back for alone too.The open atmosphere is welcoming and a nice change of pace from most places like this. The calamari was really good (my boyfriend never misses a plate anywhere) and my salad was fresh and tastey. My boyfriend also inhaled his cheesesteak and fries. Not sure what things are like at dinner, but it seems like it would have a fun bar crowd/atmosphere too. A good place to meet up with friends for apps, drinks, etc.. Are there other nicer, more personal places to eat in Doylestown? Absolutely. If you want to kick it up a notch try Knight's House downtown. It's where I tend to take my picky parents. Definitely a great bar hang out! When I went on a Thursday night, the bar was packed, even upon arriving around 5:30 pm. The atmophere is loud and airy with lots of big screen televisions. We got seated in a very comfortable booth and had a friendly waitress greet us immediately. She informed our party that drinks and appetizers were half price for happy hour. Since we were there for dinner, we passed up this offer, but it's good to know for the future as there were a few nice selections offered. I had a crabcake sandwich --- nothing to write home about as it was your typical bar food sandwich. They did give you a choice of shoestring fries, tortilla chips, or vegetables with the sandwich. The service here is terrible. We walked in and the host was clearly irritated which was should have warned us of what was to come. We were seated outside where we sat for at least 10 minutes until our server came out. After waiting for a long time for our beers (my boyfriend got his corona without a lime), we finally moved to bar. Service there was also slow. While the bartender was friendly, she was inattentive and too busy complaining about her coworkers and texting to notice when our drinks were empty. Food was ok. Food runner (the aforementioned host) was incredibly unfriendly. Great beer selection. We wanted to like it here because the atmosphere is awesome. I met up with a friend here last night as we've been here many times before. Last night's experience was awful. Our waiter seemed to be in a hurry and annoyed that my friend only ordered an appetizer. The nachos were incredibly salty but I was so hungry, I still ate them. Twice, while I had food in my mouth, the busgirl tried to take my plate. Instead of doing w hole new burger set up or new burger. She gets hers back with wilted lettuce and hot mayo, I ordered a steak rare. Mine came out medium. by time I got the right temp, everyone was done eating. Manager came over and gave it is busier then normal speech. Atmosphere is nice and clean and the staff is nice. However the food is average at best. I have been going to TJ Smith's for years and there has been a change. The menu has changed and that is fine. When reading the menu it all sounds delicious but when the food arrives at your table, not so good. The perperation has changed. I don't know if it is the chef or the source of the food. That is not the only change. The price of the food and drink has risen as well. If you are going for wings and a beer you are in the clear. Otherwise I'd prepare for some disappointment. read more

I used to come here for drinks after work and the Bruschetta which is delicious and super cheap (3$!!!). I went for the first time in a long time last night with a few friends and the experience was ice cold. We go there about 50 minutes before close and were greeted by the manager with no smile and a warning that they closed in 45 minutes. That being said, all we wanted was a couple drinks and apps. We did not do any entrees much less any dishes that required any significant time or labor, wings, my bruschetta, and one dessert on top of 3 cocktails. Server was nice enough and very polite about replacing my first drink which came out in a glass that was nearly cracked in half. We paid our bill right as they locked doors and let our server clean off our entire table. We were out on the patio, assuming that it was probably the best place to be if you were going to there a little past close. Needless to say, the manager on duty came out moments later and proclaimed "I'm lockin' up." with no smile, empathy, remorse, or hospitality. I understand you are locking the place down for the night AND that I am there past close... but if you want to send the right message... don't be a jerk 15 minutes after you close and literally kick out all of your guests. There are much more professional and friendly ways to handle that. Wouldn't mind being asked to leave or step off the patio so they could locked down the store, I am not that difficult. Nor was it even that late. Boggles my mind, I've worked in this industry for a long enough time to appreciate good service and a nice place. I am not that guest, I say thank you, pose questions politely, and only draw flaws to the attention of my server or manager when they are dire enough to be noted. While I will give TJ Smith's 4+ stars for food their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Last night 11/17/19 10 of my coworkers did a regular girls night out at TJ's. Food was great and service was also good. Than we were given our bill no issues at all...total was correct. I determined that we each owed $33.00 which also included the gratuities. Seven of us gave cash and three gave credit cards. My friend and I each counted the cash twice and it was $235.00. We handed the server the 235.00 in cash and said that the three cc's should be run at 33.00 each. It went south from that point on...It took quite a long time for them to return... then the server came back and said we are short $77.30 in cash...since all we gave them was $156.00..(now these 10 ladies are in retail and reconcile registers and cash daily....) we of course continued to say that has to be a mistake..I knew how much we gave the server. The night manager came out with 156.00 in cash and said that's all they had in the check envelope along with the the three cc's again I along with my coworkers said that has to be a mistake. At that point we really didn't know what to do..we were the last table in the restaurant and no one came out to say anything. When they noticed we were getting ready to leave the server came out and said that no one ever accused him of stealing anything. He covered the shortage out of his pocket. Of course at this point we are all embarrassed and felt accused as well. The night manager never came out to clear us to leave. During that evening we find out that one CC was charged 5 times for the 33.00 and one was charged twice. It took multiple calls today to get the general manager, Lewis, to call us back. We finally heard back from the night manager that was on last night. Although she tried to smooth over the events of last night. I doubt any of us will return to TJ Smith's. Have only been there for their Sunday brunch buffet (many times). Best chipped beef around. Everything on the buffet is quite good, as are the omelets. Hostesses seem too young. Wait staff sometimes disappears for long periods of time,making it hard to get a refill or a check. Cardboard-like Danish, wonderful fresh fruit. This restaurant apparently has no spoons, only plastic bar stirrers. Odd. Still think you'd like it, abut bring a spoon. read more

My review could not be more contradictory to everyone else's. The first time I went, I was with my parents, celebrating both my birthday, and their anniversary. My mother, who's going through chemotherapy, is selective when it comes to food and atmosphere. A restaurant can't be cold, which it almost always is, and there needs to be something on the menu that appeals to her. At TJ's, almost everything was appealing! As a trio, we shared the crab dip, which surpasses UNO's a block away. My father indulged in a broiled seafood platter, which he quickly devoured (shocking). My mother and I both had delicious pasta. Our server was totally honest and knowledge about the portion sizes, which helped immensely. But the best part was sitting outside. It's hard to find adequate outdoor seating in the area, and they have it. To anyone who complains about the outdoor seating, I ask you this: what makes you happy in life?? All I need is my parents, a warm July night, delicious food, and laughter. So, in that case, TJ Smith's had it all. read more

Slowest service ever!!!!! If their food wasn't decent, this place would be out of business. 1st time I ate here was for lunch. 4 people were in the restaurant and it took 45 minutes for 2 burgers. Tonight for dinner with my wife and two kids, the food took 50 minutes and they brought my wife's salad with the main course. Wish I was the manager here as I would have this place running much better. Ribs were good, kids were happy with their food and my wife didn't like her chicken but that was because of her taste. I would love to come back but would definitely not bring kids as their patience can not sustain a wait as long as I experienced. Hopefully management gets this place in order. read more
