Had a bacon omelette and bacon was burnt not crisp burnt and service was non existent.

7/27 was the first day we went. It was around 11 am. The second day was 7/28 at 12:30 or so. Anyway. Just WOW. This is just a quiet, quaint little diner with fantastic food. We came here on a Monday (and Tuesday) morning and there was a surprising amount of people dining on the patio. Everything that we ordered was on point! The corned beef hash was AMAZING. I order this dish whenever I get breakfast as a benchmark to how good the food is. Anyway. Let me break this down into some basic terms. Service: there was quite a few people on the patio and our server was still managing her tables and very well. Everything came out in a timely manner and we felt like we were taken care of. Drinks: I mean. It's brunch, I got my coffee and OJ, and a Budweiser and all was well lol. Food: Monday, specifically, was fantastic. I haven't had breakfast like that in a long time. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over medium and hash browns. Everything turned out amazing. Perfectly seasoned, eggs to temp. My boyfriend ordered the 2-2-2 with a side of homefries. Tuesday, not so much. Eggs were still to temp, but the homefries weren't very good. Not to throw anyone under the bus but there's a bit of a consistency issue there. At the end of our meal on Monday, we asked to meet the chef. We found out his name was Wayne. Both of us being chefs and through our fair share of brunches, we knew this guy was a badass. We tipped him out ourselves when we met him. No one really knows how hard it is to present perfection ESPECIALLY cooking breakfast and (excuse my language) he FUCKING NAILED IT. He was also alone that day, and he got his ass handed to him. Whoever is reading this, make this guy your chef, if not, the standard at least. He also needs a raise (being a chef, I know he's not being paid enough). He made our meal. Good job Wayne. We will be back! (I mean, we were back the next day). In conclusion: Wayne is a Badass. The corned beef hash is amazing. Don't burn your best cooks out and take care of them. read more

The second time around the food was fresh, tasty, cooked just the way I requested, medium rare. Onion rings were to die for. Service was friendly and I appreciate the owners follow up to my concern about a previous visit. I believe it was just a one off, isolated mistake. They genuinely are concerned that the customer is satisfied. read more

Came in for a bite to eat on my way to Grass Valley, when I walked in, I stood at the hostess podium and four wait staff walked past me, and no one acknowledged my presence. Finally, after about 5 minutes of me standing there someone asked if I had been helped. When I said no, she asked what I needed? I said how about a table to have lunch at? At this point, she sat me at a table, where I was ignored again for another 5-10min after putting my menu down. An employee who I saw waiting on other table, sat at the table next to me, counted a tip, then started straightening, and looked up, and saw I was looking at her, then she asked if I needed something to drink. At this point I just felt like this was going to be a poor experience at best, and was best to cut my losses. I got up and left, and went down the street to Dine-N-Dash Cafe, where I was greeted with a smile by two different employees, and sat down virtually immediately. This is for the restaurant in Nevada City. It's a great looking place decorated with old west memoribilia ... and the food looked really good that others in my party ordered. And those other people were happy with what they had ordered. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was flat, small and disappointing. I was hoping for some nice fat cod but his was very flat and a bit tough. Go to Alta Sierra for great fish and chips. Don't order that here. read more

After an 8.3mi hike in Colfax, we were looking forward to something substantial. TJ's hit the spot! Started off with beer on draft and a couple orders of beer battered onion rings... so crispy outside, tender inside... the onion doesn't slide out leaving you with empty crumbly crust like at other joints... you get a perfect non-greasy, crunchy, savory bite every time. Next up... burgers. I opted for the giant veggie burger, added Swiss and mushroom, with garlic fries, others got the full on works with bacon, avocado, & fried egg, side of homemade potato salad. When you come to TJ's, a place that asks how you want your burger done, you know it's gonna be good. Guess how you make it over the top? Very good service. Quaint ambience. I ordered the special - chicken enchiladas. I'm not entirely sure why I did this, but I did. The enchiladas were very cold. Tortillas had not been heated through. I don't know how the cheese was melted on top. It was cold all the way through. Even the filling and sauce. Babe ordered a teriyaki burger and garlic fries. The burger was really good. Fries had a little garlic and cheese on them. They tasted like bowling alley fries :/ We did have a bowl of the soup of the day which was a creamy mushroom soup with some ground beef and linguini noodles in it. It was very good. Will we be back? We both agreed that the burger was good enough to come back to try with onion rings instead of fries. I do want to try spaghetti and meat balls. Maybe even fried chicken. read more

HAPPY WE GAVE THEM ANOTHER TRY!! My husband and I went in for dinner on a Thursday night at approximately 6pm. Initially it wasn't too busy, but soon became full. We both got the Soup/Salad w/ Baked Potato. The Chicken Rice Soup was the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD!! AMAZING!! My daughter ordered the kids Mac and cheese with fries and a drink. I ordered the fish sandwich on sourdough with a side salad. We also ordered crunchy chicken salad and the sauerkraut dog with onion rings. The hot dog was devoured. My fish wasn't too bad, and my son loved his salad. The restrooms are clean. This place is a diamond in the rough. The inside is a little worn but that fits the vibe and doesn't disappoint. Decent on tap beer selection. The servers are great and seem to work hard. A great small diner in Colfax across the new Best Western. Hope they will get more business now that the new hotel is right there. We went for breakfast and were very happy with the food. The eggs Benedict and the biscuit with sausage gravy were very good. I almost licked my plate (well I did with a piece of biscuit) and that rarely happens when I eat out. The sausage patty was oh so very flavorful. The service was a little slow but it was a lazy Sunday morning so we did not mind. The prices are very reasonable too. Great place! read more

Hubby and I met my parents here for lunch around 1:15 on a Saturday. The place was medium busy and we had great service! Endless hot coffee and iced tea. The Philly cheese steak was delicious. The 2-2-2 was awesome and I recommend the sausage links, which were sooo crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We also got the chili cheese hot dog and onion rings on the side. We were very disappointed in the food here. I asked the waitress if they made the Tri tip there and she told me yes, so I ordered Tri tip. We asked if the fried chicken or chicken fried steak was made there and was told no. I got the Tri tip sandwich and it was horrible processed meat. My friends ended up ordering a salad. I gave 2 stars because the waitress was very nice and took great care of us but the food was terrible. It tasted like bar food. I had occasion to stop in this place this last weekend while I was on a motorcycle trip. I had not been in here before. I ordered a Teriyaki mushroom cheeseburger fries and a soda. The server did a great job and the food was delicious. There was not a lot of traffic there when I got there and I was served in a timely manner. The place is small and has a nice Hometown Diner feel to it. I would definitely return here again for a meal if I'm out and about. Overall a great experience. read more

Just had the most horrendous experience I have ever had with any restaurant. I did give them an extra star for answering the phone though. I'm a local, live about 2 miles from TJs and have been going there since they opened and during the shutdown as well. I just called to place a to-go order and the woman answering the phone asked if I wanted to ask a question or place an order. When I said an order she unceremoniously informed me that the the restaurant and the chefs were too busy and that they would not take my order. After I picked my jaw off the floor, I informed her that they just lost my business. Probably doesn't mean squat to her, but I hope is does to the business. It could have been handled so much better just by telling me there would be an extended wait and letting me make the decision to wait or not. Businesses in Colfax have been struggling for years. From the outside I was concerned about how clean the inside might be however it was nice inside. It is an old ma pa place but super cute. The food was amazing! All of the food was cooked how we asked. Our waitress was awesome as well. No complaints here. Would definitely stop here again on our way back to Reno. read more
