Nicest people ever! I'm a local here in Colfax, and If you go in there to order something to go, forget about it! It takes them forever to even take your order!! It's deceiving, because all the employees walk past you MULTIPLE times, each, and won't even look at you and smile or anything. I get that they're busy, but no one walking by can stop for 1 solid minute and take my order? Could be even 30 seconds! I don't even need a menu!! I've been a customer here for years, and this has NOT changed. This time, was the last straw. I walked right over across the parking lot to buzz through Joe's and got helped immediately. I don't expect to cut in front of people that sit down, but I looked... everybody in there already had food or had ordered, or at least had menus and water/coffee. Ridiculous. I might be back! Gave it another shot! I love the food here. This time was much better, much faster, better service at the door, everything. Actually was completely different then the last time...and most times before, they all interacted with me, and wanted to make sure I was helped. So I really wanted to like this place. Had driven by it many times on the freeway, but never stopped. Anyhow we tried it, and it was OK. The medium burger was cooked more to raw or medium rare, and wasn't really seasoned. The chili was also a little bland and very beanie. The highlight of the meal was their fresh made onion bun, so good, might just buy those if they sold them. Oh, how I wish we lived closer! The family & I stopped here on the way home from Reno for a late breakfast & it was just fabulous! When you walk in, it feels like a "hole in the wall" kind of place, but give it a chance! They have the BEST biscuits & gravy I have ever tasted. We also had the carnitas omelet & pancakes. "be at least an hour for service" and walked off. never took my name. have been to this place 100 times. my family meets there monthly. i turned around with my 3 guests to leave. Best restaurant in the foothills!! Food is amazing, I've been here plenty of times but it's so good I'm indecisive on what I want every time. Collin was our bartender, he made us great margaritas and kept us entertained. He's a funny dude and a phenomenal worker! Jessica was our server, and she was checking on us at the perfect times. We stopped by here on the way to Truckee, and boy oh boy was it cozy and warm! The ambiance is lovely, with friendly staff and cute decorations (LOVE the cow painting). Now, the burgers were hyped up. Like, REALLY hyped up. Like best in the WORLD hyped up. So you already know, we had to give it a try! I got a simple cheeseburger, which came with a brioche bun (but you can choose a different one (but brioche is superior)), a cheese slice, a patty (medium), lettuce, tomato, onion, and 4 pickles. Also fries. Now, the fries were delectable. Slightly underdone for my taste, but the restaurant was very busy so it was understandable. Texture was nice and crispy and flavor very fresh potato-y. Burger? Solid, delightful, simple and delicious. Not too oily which I appreciate, it felt good in my tummy. The coffee is also lovely, good bean flavor and not too bitter but not too watery. I left this place full and happy. The experience was nice for the Christmas season, and though I doubt we will ever go again, it was a great stop for our hungry bellies. The food is good for a diner. The staff is friendly. But on 2/3 of our visits we have been told upon walking in that we can come in if we want, but there is a long wait for food, and they aren't kidding. There's even a long wait to order. Last visit we received tater tots that were so hard they were inedible. On this visit, or order was missing something, but the food was decent. I think this could be a cool little restaurant if they were sufficiently staffed. They are just totally overrun and need more help. Oh and also to keep customer's dogs off the tables... I saw a chihuahua literally climbing on a table tonight. I mean, I know it's casual roadside Colfax, but come on people. read more

The first couple times I came in, 2 yrs ago, it was great. Then it went downhill. With the new ownership, I was optimistic. My mistake. Cold food, thrown in a box. Portion of French fries is an insult. I worked w Richard 5 yrs ago, so I shouldn't be surprised. Maybe it was the other guy.. I should probably add that, when making a grilled sandwich(actually, almost anything cooked on any heated surface) a 'liaison' is employed for flavor, texture, and color. Some just call it 'lube'. In this instance, that was forgone; likely so to avoid the need to clean the grill again. At 720. I could've stayed home, thrown bread in a toaster, meat in a microwave, and said a melting prayer over the cheese. Admittedly, a sore neck made for a bad day... I'd just hoped to find a reprieve. Came in for a bite to eat on my way to Grass Valley, when I walked in, I stood at the hostess podium and four wait staff walked past me, and no one acknowledged my presence. Finally, after about 5 minutes of me standing there someone asked if I had been helped. When I said no, she asked what I needed? I said how about a table to have lunch at? At this point, she sat me at a table, where I was ignored again for another 5-10min after putting my menu down. An employee who I saw waiting on other table, sat at the table next to me, counted a tip, then started straightening, and looked up, and saw I was looking at her, then she asked if I needed something to drink. At this point I just felt like this was going to be a poor experience at best, and was best to cut my losses. I got up and left, and went down the street to Dine-N-Dash Cafe, where I was greeted with a smile by two different employees, and sat down virtually immediately. Me and co worker got stuck on the 80 one night, so we decided to try this place out, the burgers were great!

7/27 was the first day we went. It was around 11 am. The second day was 7/28 at 12:30 or so. Anyway. Just WOW. This is just a quiet, quaint little diner with fantastic food. We came here on a Monday (and Tuesday) morning and there was a surprising amount of people dining on the patio. Everything that we ordered was on point! The corned beef hash was AMAZING. I order this dish whenever I get breakfast as a benchmark to how good the food is. Anyway. Let me break this down into some basic terms. Service: there was quite a few people on the patio and our server was still managing her tables and very well. Everything came out in a timely manner and we felt like we were taken care of. Drinks: I mean. It's brunch, I got my coffee and OJ, and a Budweiser and all was well lol. Food: Monday, specifically, was fantastic. I haven't had breakfast like that in a long time. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over medium and hash browns. Everything turned out amazing. Perfectly seasoned, eggs to temp. My boyfriend ordered the 2-2-2 with a side of homefries. Tuesday, not so much. Eggs were still to temp, but the homefries weren't very good. Not to throw anyone under the bus but there's a bit of a consistency issue there. At the end of our meal on Monday, we asked to meet the chef. We found out his name was Wayne. Both of us being chefs and through our fair share of brunches, we knew this guy was a badass. We tipped him out ourselves when we met him. No one really knows how hard it is to present perfection ESPECIALLY cooking breakfast and (excuse my language) he FUCKING NAILED IT. He was also alone that day, and he got his ass handed to him. Whoever is reading this, make this guy your chef, if not, the standard at least. He also needs a raise (being a chef, I know he's not being paid enough). He made our meal. Good job Wayne. We will be back! (I mean, we were back the next day). In conclusion: Wayne is a Badass.
