When I got there he turned away a woman because she said that she hadn't driven in three months and so she needed an oil change. It had only been 2000 miles so she didn't really need an oil change until 5000 miles. So right in front of my face, I witnessed him turning away, free money to be moral. With my issue, he drove around with me, he talked me through everything that was going on. He fixed the problem quick and kept me informed along the way of the prices. When I got back, he went through everything again and was just the absolute perfect person to work on my car and I will always go back to him for anything. This shop used to be good but for the last 2 years, they turn me down. I went there to change brake pads for my 60K miles Tundra, and they also wanted to change the disc brake too even though they still look good. I declined the disc brake change, and still driving until 100K. I called them for a quote to change the shock on my 4Runner, they said OK, and they never call back. A few times I called for appointment, left messages, and never get any call back. read more

I know that for things like brake and transmission fluid.. a competent independent shop can match dealership service for much more competitive prices. Mr Trinh worked for Lexus and Toyota before he started his own shop.. so he is a very knowledgeable mechanic. It was a genuine pleasure meeting him, and I will be happy to return if our cars need more maintenance or repairs. He doesn't try to sell you services that are not needed at this time. As an example.. I asked him to check our tire tread because the dealer suggested replacing two tires. He assured us we have 8 to 12 months before that is needed. Got a recommendation from a friend about this shop in Roseville. Been going to Midas for years avoiding the very expensive dealership rates but the latest quote for a repair was just too steep. Wife called up Thin and immediately got an appointment and a quote. The lot was full but Thin was quick in taking a look under the hood which surprised me. He opened the machine cover and cleaned up the area of concern, turned on the engine and showed me the leaking problem. He explained the parts to be replaced and answered questions. I was taking a look at his "magic spray" cleaner and he in turn gave a bottle of degreaser ("that's yours") he bought from the dollar store. He explained that he was using this yellow liquid for years now to clean up his garage floor and grill at home. He wrote on a piece of paper an estimate of the repairs and told me that it was going to be done in a day or two. Told, him I wasn't in a hurry but he immediately called someone on the phone and informed me most of the parts were on their way. Totally impressed by this guy's professionalism and thoroughness. Thinh the owner deserves 10 stars. He took my Lexus CT200H immediately on a Sunday to fix my "check engine light." He showed and explained to me step by step how to diagnose, isolate and fix the problem. It took less than one hour and the car is working again very well. This review is long over due. I first met Thinh over 8 years ago; I was younger then and had a mustang that I obsessed way too much over. I found Thinh by calling around for a mechanic who was willing to upgrade my suspension at a decent price (changing coil springs are not fun and wanted to leave that to a professional). Not only did he have the best price, but he was able to do it within a week. After that, he became my go to guy for mechanical issues that were above my backyard mechanic level of expertise. Always honest and never trying to upsell me (which is easy to do with a car obsessed 20 something year old). Later, my girlfriend's Ford Escape had AC issues, in which he diagnosed the problem and replaced the AC Compressor for a very reasonable price. Again, never trying to upsell and only recommending what was necessary. After that, I didn't see him for years as I moved to the Bay Area. Fast forward to this week when my mom need a second opinion on "issues" another mechanic shop had claimed when she just went in for an oil change. I called Thinh, knowing from prior experience that he would be the best person to contact. Well, I'm happy to say that he's still exactly as I remember: honest and only recommending what NEEDS to be done. He called me today to say that the car has no issues. He could have lied but he DIDN'T, he was honest. A lot has changed since the pandemic but it was great knowing that he hasn't. Needless to say, I told my mom to only use his shop moving forward. Likewise, I recently moved back to the Sacramento area and will be exclusively using him as well as telling friends and family about his shop. Wow, just wow. I honestly hate leaving 5 star reviews because of two selfish reasons. One, they usually start getting busy of all the traffic and two, I don't like to give away my hidden gems. But this 5 star review is different. I don't mind giving this gem away because Thinh, the master mechanic, owner of this humble shop is my new go too. Quick back round. The place is somewhat hidden. You will literally pass it if you aren't looking closely. It's in between SCATT Recreation and a radiator shop on a long entry way line with cars. It's a very unassuming shop, but I don't care for the bells and whistles of bright lights and fancy chairs to sit in. I just want my vehicle fixed correctly. So I normally do all my own mechanical work on my vehicles, but ran into an issue, I just couldn't fix. I called based on Yelp reviews and talked to Thinh. I told him my issue and he actually gave me a solution, rather than just tell me to come in. He was extremely helpful over the phone, but I decided to come in as the situation was difficult to do at home. He gave me a time to come in and a decent, extremely reasonable price for the work to be done. I ended up showing up, and was in and out of the shop in less than 30 minutes. Thinh, was not only professional, but completely competent with the work that needed to be done. He even took the time to answer more questions I had when it comes to repair and servicing my own vehicles. Truly a great experience with an honest mechanic. TLH does quality work. Even though it's 15 miles from where I live, I don't want to go anywhere else. Thinh has been helping me maintain my '99 Corolla for a few years now. The oil always seems to stay clean a lot longer when he changes it. That's because he's thorough. He just replaced a bad power steering pump and did a super job. He replaced an o-ring on the pressure hose and used better sealing washers to ensure no leaks. Many other shops would have skipped that. Transparent and affordable parts and labor. Great service. I shopped around for quotes on a window regulator replacement from several auto repair shops. Most of them quoted me 120 for the labor, but the cost of parts ranged widely from 170 to over 300 with the total ranging from 300-500 I went online to check the pricing for the part and it goes for 50-60 dollars. I asked the shops if they would be willing to provide me with part number and receipt from the part provider and they all refused. If labor cost is 300, just say so, dont try to tack it onto the parts cost. Anyways, I came here and got it done for 200. I would highly recommend this place. read more
