The difficulty of driving the combined I-85/75 through the midst of town at high rates of speed is dreaded & avoided by most out of towners. In the midst of 80mph bumper to bumper traffic, it's difficult for those not familiar with the correct exit lane. When my middle aged son, who has lived in NYC for decades, had a business trip to Atlanta he rented a car. On his return trip to the airport I asked if he planned to go through the middle of town or around the perimeter highway. He responded "the middle of town". I chuckled mentally waiting to hear his reaction. When I finally asked, the NYC driver responded "They go fast.....REALLY fast!" With MARTA you avoid this. There was controversy before construction regarding the counties that would participate in MARTA. In the beginning only Atlanta/Fulton County participated. My 2nd apartment complex on Piedmont Road was new when my roommates and I moved in during 1972. The complex was demolished to build the Lindbergh MARTA station. By that time I was living in East Cobb. But old pictures still provide remembrances of that place in its earlier time. The system has created such easy and fast access, avoiding the traffic congestion that had always been a part of Atlanta. Park & Ride lots provide for riders who aren't in walking distance. Decades after I moved to Coastal Virginia I took my then teenage son to see a musical theatre production at the gorgeous Fox Theater. I chose a hotel close to the Fox. We were able to get onto MARTA inside the airport and exit within a block of our hotel. We walked to the Fox and nearby restaurants. We took MARTA to my longtime shopping center of choice, Lenox Square. Treating him to a hot dog at the legendary Varsity Restaurant was easy with MARTA. Navigating around Atlanta was so easy without a vehicle. It's been over a decade since I last visited the place in which I spent my early adulthood. Still dear to my heart, I'd love to see the expansion of the MARTA line and the conveniences it has added.

There was some old lady making a nuisance of herself by the gates and the lone staff member on duty was trying to ignore her. As I passed through the gate the lady slipped through behind me and I said she should probably buy a ticket and she told me to mind my own damn business. I would have, if she didn't use me to skip paying for the train fare. I bet her plan was to follow someone else out at her stop because you need to use your ticket to enter and exit the stations. When we got on the train the lady was babbling to herself the entire time. I don't think she was all there in the head. At least this train didn't smell like pee. There was no ventilation so it was very stuffy despite the cooler temperatures of the early morning.

There are couple of card machines outside and out of the 4 machines only one worked. Once we were in, my kid need to go to restroom, I was looking for it and found that the restroom was locked and I had to press a button to talk to someone to open the door. It was just a maze to use the tap and soap. Even for an adult it is difficult, my kid tried to wash and the sensor was misfiring and got water all over him. Quite interesting design and not a fan of it. The train was good and our kids enjoyed the ride to five points.

My review is on the lack of information or the difficulty in finding information on the type of crimes committed on MARTA property like auto theft, type of cars, rapes, burglary, etc. All I have been able to find were the number of crimes, per stations, per fiscal year. No one at MARTA so far, has been able to tell me where I can find information by the TYPE of crime, so if any of my fellow yelpers can let us all know where we can locate this information it would sure be helpful. Because one of my vehicles was stolen, (the 1988 old beat up looking one, but with a great engine) from MARTA Indian Creek Train Station last month, along with the remote to my garage and information with my home address, I have been trying to locate the statistics of the type of crimes committed at MARTA Train Stations. I was aware that you park at your own risk, but honestly, it never crossed my mind that people were bold enough to steal vehicles right under the police noses. My other question and complaint is when a crime is committed, why is it not posted at the stations, like missing children are posted? I believe having this information would make us more vigilant and possibly assist the police in solving crimes, if we knew what we may have witnessed was a crime to report. I do not expect to recover my 1988 vehicle because the parts were probably sold to an underground salvage yard. (A type of business that doesn't require proof of ownership). However, I hope by posting this information it will be of help to someone and possibly lead to others posting crimes that we, the general public are not made aware of or cannot access. On a lighter note, I guess the person or persons that stole my car did not want to ride MARTA that day or thought that they would have a better chance getting away with stealing a car, than getting through the turnstiles without paying. Ample parking and access from 285 N. There are two entrances. One from the interstate and the other from Indian Creek / Redan. But you exit on the side you enter, as there is a chain / barricade preventing access from one side to the other. Come here for access to the 116 to Stonecrest Mall. Women beware while waiting for rides out near the taxi stands. The taxi drivers seem to be very flirty and sometimes a little pushy.

When we first got off the train, we didn't look at the signs and just exited to the street so we ended up walking a lot more the first day but once you realize all the demarcations, you'll be fine. We actually found an exit closer to our hotel, without having to walk up hill. SCORE!!! The station looks clean and feels pretty safe. I agree that it's a bit dark but I kind of think it adds to the charm a bit. I love the monitors that let you know when the next train is coming. The escalators are interesting to say the least. They do take forever but they are very long and better than having to walk up 4 flights of stairs, especially with baggage. And once we found the exit that didn't involve a hill, the escalator in that area was a bit shorter.

So this review is about the Doraville station, then the others and what to expect. The Doraville station bathrooms have been renovated, but you do have to call to be buzzed in, because it would be a fetid shit hole otherwise thanks to the homeless. Gwinette voted down Marta expansion, yet they have taken over the Doraville station. So if you are going to an event intown, you better get there a little early to get a parking space. If full, go to the Chamblee station close by. For FIFA the Doraviile station filled up quick. Arts Center, Midtown, North Avenue and Civic center are ghost towns. Marta should close the North Avenue and Civic Station because no one uses them. South of 5 Points its the ghetto stations, no way am I using Marta in this part of town at night. Recommendations for the best experience: board the front car with the conductor, check your seat and floor before you sit, because you may be stepping or sitting in a piss pool. If you sense danger or just nut case annoying passengers, change cars at the next station. Don't make eye contact and always be alert of your surroundings. That being said Atlanta is big city living, pretty much the same public transportation bullshit as other major cities. Get street wise

This cuts out the $50 a day for hotel parking, the Doraville station has surface & parking deck areas, two nights was $16. Lenox station is cheaper FYI. I had only rode Marta one other time before this and it was over 10 years prior, I was mainly traveling solo on Marta this time. For the Doraville station be sure not to park in the front parking as this is NOT overnight and you will be towed. The ticketed parking is just beside with minimal security. Doraville is the gold line that goes into Lenox where the race starts; our stop was Peachtree center. The trick to going from Peachtree back to Lenox is to know that both red & gold run on same track, which I didn't. I got on the train saying North Springs and ended up at Medical Center before realized, rode back to Lindbergh then gold to Lenox. The train itself is minimally occupied unless a big event is going on. It was somewhat clean as meaning no visible trash. There are homeless persons all around the escalators underground and you may get accosted on the platform but just be smart. I put the Breeze mobile app on and bought 3 day pass for $16, my main issue was the QR code picking up on the scanner. Every time I dreaded it because would never scan on first, 2nd, maybe 3rd try if was lucky. Overall IMO, Marta is a deal at $2.50 to go all over the city pretty quickly. It can be a little sketchy at night but just be aware of surroundings.
