I felt compelled to review. The musty smell. The gnats. Dead gnats in the glass display shelf should have been an indicator of the fight we were going to encounter while eating our food. Too many gnats! Please tell your maintenance crew to flush out all plumbing lines...sinks, both kitchen and bathrooms with hot water for a good 15-30 mins. HORRIBLE. Leo is a horrible manager coming from someone who's worked in the food industry. I had made a reservation at 12 and someone else in my party had joined the waitlist for an earlier time. We checked in at 10:40, our wait list time was 10:51-11:06. As we checked in Leo told us with an attitude we would still have 30 minutes to wait. So we went to the bar to grab a drink. As we sat there someone in our party went to see what was the update at 11 and the MANAGER LEO said we have to wait another 30 minutes because he gave up our table and he has no table for us. He stated he had called for us and called the girl who made the waitlist reservation. After she showed him her call log he then changed it that he had said he sent her a message via Yelp. Also, our party was sitting at the bar about 10 feet away and he had never gone to check the bar for us. He is extremely rude and unprofessional. read more

We came to The Toast for brunch and had a lovely experience overall. We ordered the Crunch Berry Stuffed French Toast and the Bacon Avocado Benedict : both dishes were absolutely delicious! The flavors were spot on, and the portions were generous. We also enjoyed our drinks. They were not only refreshing but also beautifully presented. We had the Margaritas and the Boujee Violet, and both were perfect. The only small hiccup was the initial wait. We were seated fairly quickly but had to wait a while before anyone brought us menus. I liked the decor and atmosphere a lot whoever is the interior designer did a good job, however, the food is really pricy for the pretty small amount that you get. To be fair I did go on a pretty busy day but I was really surprised how none of the servers said that the wait for food (at the table not at the door for a table) would be as long as it was or like, check in at any point. Maybe would be better experience for brunch than late lunch as I did, the brunch menu seemed better. read more

I've been to Toast many times and I've always had an amazing experience, however, my most recent experience was absolutely disappointing. My husband and I were so excited to take our family whom was visiting out of state. Our waitress was Evan S. and our service was awful. At the beginning, Evan was pleasant and got our drinks right away. One of my family members and I ordered the same thing. My family member received her food first, however, the order was incorrect and had not realized it until she was a few bites in. As I was trying to communicate this to Evan, she cut me off before I could complete my sentence and told me, "The rest of the food is still coming out. Let's first wait for the food to come out." I, then, told Evan that my family member's order was in incorrect. Evan then reached across the table and took the plate from my family member mid-bite. At no point did Evan pause to acknowledge my family member was actively eating nor to ask if she even wanted the original order or to keep what she was working on. Even if we would've paid extra, that would've been completely fine but my family member was not given an opportunity to make that choice. Evan just swiped the plate without asking. Typically, once the plate touches the table, it remains on the table unless family is okay with having the plate removed. Also, midway through our meal, my aunt mentioned she had not received her avocado yet. My husband had his order of avocado between us both which he had been eating from already. I mentioned to Evan that our aunt was missing her avocado and was quick to remove the plate from my husband's side to take it to my aunt. As she was making her way to take the plate to my aunt, mid-air, I told Evan that the avocado had already been picked at by my husband and son and there was that second order of avocado we were missing, which was meant for my aunt. She returned my husband's avocado. We were embarrassed that she was close to giving our aunt the half eaten avocado, I found that unhygienic and flat out rude. At no point did she pause, to assess the state of the plate before touching it and taking it to someone else. She could've stopped to double-check if there was a second order of avocado input on her end. Evan lacks attention to detail and rushes which comes across as plain carelessness. She was rude towards the end when paying the bill, as well. At the end of our breakfast, I asked her to confirm her name and when she confirmed she pat my back. That was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. My family commented on feeling like they weren't treated politely and said she was "bold." I was so embarrassed for their experience as I recommended this place to them and apologized. I've worked in the food industry in the past and I say this because want to point out that I understand how overwhelming serving can be, however, this is not an excuse to be rude to customers. Even on your bad days, treat customers with respect. I spoke to General Manager Leo, whom was apologetic and stated he would talk with Evan. I am leaving this review to share that the food is great and every other server has been amazing-- hosts and busboys are great and so polite too. I left Evan a tip because that's only fair. Evan needs some serious work on the hospitality department and learn server manners-- until she learns to treat customers better, avoid being sat in her section. read more

Toast is the perfect brunch spot in Brea! Located super close to the Brea Mall, parking is super easy and it's modern, clear ambiance is fun and relaxing! Service here is pretty average, but nothing to complain about. Since I'm an Eggs Benedict lover that's what I always order and it never disappoints. There's a good selection of brunch/lunch options and everything I've tried has been delightful. We stopped in after reading reviews on Yelp. We arrived right when they opened on a Saturday and were surprised that it was not busy at all! Unfortunately for us we felt that the food fell short of our expectations. I tried the Spanish Omelet, which for $19 with no protein seemed extremely steep.. The hash brown chips look better than they are, they're grated super thin which takes away from the flavor of a hash brown/roasted potato that you know and love on a breakfast plate. They have a ton of yummy sounding drinks, but we didn't try any on this visit. I talked to the staff I'm assuming is the manager who was dressed in a suit at the hostess counter. He asked who is the waitress, annoying smiled and then walked back to the kitchen. No apology, no 'I will check on your order'. After 45 mins of waiting the Waitress came out with 2 side of country potatoes and slammed them on our table, other customers looked because the noise was loud. Waitress said nothing and walked away. We got up from our table and walked out. Told the manager she slammed our food onto the table, waitress came to the lobby complaining 'they're leaving and sarcastically yelled 'bye''. Manager did not apologize or attempt to accommodate the long wait and terrible service. To Toast Corporate, I have brought my elderly mom for brunch many times and we have had good servers. However this female server who was assigned to the section behind the hostess counter was rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful. And the manager had poor customer service. Have been here several times to have breakfast/brunch. The service can be hit or miss. My main reason for this review is that one of the well known dishes they serve are their Benedict options. The big issue with this dish is the extremely small egg that is used. We are talking about an egg the size of a Robin's egg, the smallest I have ever seen at a restaurant. Very little yolk or egg white as well. A restaurant that is mainly for breakfast and brunch, should have a killer Benedict, not one that uses eggs that must be the guineas book of records for the smallest around. After my latest visit, I have come to the conclusion that there are much better breakfast options elsewhere in the surrounding area. I will happily update my review to be more positive once Toast makes some better changes with dishes likes this. read more

I came here this past weekend for my best friend's birthday and had an amazing experience. Highly recommend making a reservation because when we went it was BUSY, which is always a good sign. I had the ribeye chilaquiles which were delicious, and I reallllllly liked the green salsa. It was a lot of food, make very fresh, and would definitely have again. Biggest thing for me- shoutout to Evan who went out of her way to make my friend's birthday extra special. She found candles and wrote "happy birthday" in caramel sauce on a piece of carrot cake and that made me day. She is such a sweetheart, and really represented that spot in an incredible way. Ambiance - parking spots were plenty and shared with neighboring Residence Inn hotel. Restaurant was huge inside so we could choose our seats. We came at around 1:30 pm so it was almost empty. Service - our server was very nice and attentive. When it was time to pay the bill, however, she was nowhere to be found. I had to go to the front of the restaurant to find someone (no servers in sight) to ask them to let her know to give us the bill. Food - my husband ordered the Denver omelette. It was very flavorful but it seemed very thin and too little for the price. How much could another egg cost? I ordered the classic Benedict which was two poached eggs on top of bacon on top of an English muffin. First of all, the muffin was gummy and overcooked. It did not seem fresh. The bacon was dry and tough to cut. There was not enough hollandaise on top. The egg, however, was perfectly poached. The Benedict at Eggbred and /or Snooze Eatery were miles better. This is probably the worst Benedict I've had. For appetizer, we ordered the bourbon bbq chicken wings. The menu indicated a serving of seven wings; only six were served until we brought it to the server's attention. Then, we received another piece. The wings were the best. They were crispy and super flavorful. I don't think we'll be back. The serving portions were small and aside from the wings, we were not impressed with the other items we ordered. For the price we paid ($67 for two people), we would have had some good to take home, had it been at other restaurants. read more

Nothing like the atmosphere at the Downey location. Very mellow, just for breakfast and family energy. I came with some friends it's was 5 of us total. We got bottomless mimosas and all I am going to say is don't. My friends were singing having a good time one of them later asked for shots of tequila. We were told they'd be around shortly. After waiting 20 mins we realized we weren't getting them. They lied and said they heard one of us in the bathroom throwing up. Did not happen.
