The menu offers many choices with an interesting fusion of Asian and modern West Coast Cafe. We opted to have an Asian mix of savory Cauliflower and lentals. The Manchurian sauced Cauliflower was served hot and was an excellent appetizer. The Dal and nicely flavored Basmati Rice soon followed - nicely spiced and portioned generously for two. Omg... we are so enamored this cute Tahoe spot! It very well may be our go-to restaurant when we are in the Zephyr Cove area! We were expecting it to be super busy on a Friday afternoon for lunch, but we were one of the only tables the whole time we were there. We opted to sit outside on their deck, a beautiful patio nestled within the trees. Our server was incredible kind, thoughtful, and patient with us as we practically drooled all over the menu! Toast is marketed as Asian Fusion but they have some hard core American fare as well, so we decided to try a bit of everything. The starters - miso soup and clam chowder - really hit the spot on a slightly chilly day! My New Englander date said it was one of the best chowders he's ever had, which is really saying something! We also decided to try to shrimp and veggie tempura, which were excellently fried, super fresh, and delicious paired with the dipping sauce provided! We did one of their burgers for an entree and also fell in love with it. Perfectly cooked, well seasoned, tons of flavor... just a wonderful meal! Finally, though we were stuffed to the gills, I ordered their apple dumpling with ice cream for dessert. There was this amazing sauce and nuts sprinkled over the top... omg, I just about died! This was such a great restaurant! I had gone here a few years ago after finding it on Yelp, and although we have stayed in Glenbrook for over 40 years, we had never tried it! It was excellent. There was something for everyone on the menu, but it seemed like the Indian food was their specialty so we ordered the Tikka masala chicken and the Butter Chicken and they were amazing!! The owner, Arvin, came and checked on us a couple times and was so warm and welcoming. The wait staff was excellent and very attentive. And OH!!! The naan bread. We got the naan bread with butter, and it was HEAVEN. We ended up ordering a second basket of it because we loved it so much. The last time I went here was with a different group of ladies, and everyone chose something unique and we ALL loved everything. I can't wait to go back and try something else, although that Butter Chicken may be calling my name again!! Just a warning: I am not a super spice-loving girl, so when they asked my spice level between 1-5, I chose 1. It was still VERY spicy, almost too much for my taste, so if you are sensitive (I can't have more than mild salsa, for example), just say NO spice like my friend did, and she said hers was still amazing with so much taste. I still loved mine, it was just a little hot but so, so good. The prices are very reasonable for Tahoe, and two of us got side salads to start which were a little high at $7 each, but they were excellent! We tried the Indian choices as the owner said that was the Resteraunt's specialty. Both dishes were just very very below average. We ate about 20% of the chicken saag....And we were hungry. The chicken tika marsala was a bit better. The naan was bad. Store bought. Maybe this place only deserves one star but too many one star reviews get hidden by yelp I cannot speak to the other items on the menu but I just don't have a real good feeling about this place. And the worse part is 18% gratuity was added for a party of 2! Usually gratuity gets added for parties of 5+ or 6+ but they added it for 2 people! The galls! 2 curries, 2 naans, 1 paratha costed $57! It's a rip-off. Ideally should have costed around $30-$35, I agree Tahoe is not Bay Area but still this is too expensive for quality and the ambience. Stop ripping off customers like his. Name and description is very misleading. Toast? Asian fusion? Was in town and decided to try something new. Was extremely disappointed. I try not to post negative remarks, everyone's tastes are different, so I try to put my comments in perspective. Sunday at 1:30p, not busy, we were the only ones. Menu had a lot of choices, which is a warning sign. If a place tries to have too many things on the menu, then they are likely mediocre, not prepared fresh, etc. Since it looked primarily Indian, not so much 'Asian fusion', we stuck with basics (like I said, I was worried that an extensive menu could mean dishes are not prepared fresh). Ordered Butter Chicken curry and Saag chicken, along with garlic naan bread. Server asked if my daughter wanted rice or bread with the curry, she said rice. Didn't realize that rice didn't come with any of the curry dishes automatically. And it was only 1 small bowl. We ended up asking for another bowl later (another charge btw). Food/taste - Both the Butter chicken curry and the Saag chicken, the portions were extremely poor for the price! We found 5 bite-size pieces of chicken in each platter... you read that right.. 5 bite-size pieces! The butter chicken curry sat in a dark red, thick paste that looked and tasted like canned tomato paste. Similarly, the Saag chicken, which is a spinach-based sauce, was so thick it was also very much like a paste. We were literally trying to make our serving sizes spread a little more by using what little rice and naan bread to dip in the sauce/paste. The temperature of the dishes, in my opinion, seemed to suggest that the dishes were not freshly prepared. It did feel/taste like we were getting leftovers. And the naan.. was burnt/dry.. well.. basted in garlic butter.. but still that didn't seem to add to the palate at all. I am sorry to say, this was really a disappointing experience. They had so many items labeled gluten free and it made me so exited. Plus, it was kinda late and we didn't want to drive so we looked for places that had a delivery and gluten free options. There weren't many. This was a fail. I've never had such an ongoing allergic reaction in my life. It's 5 days later and I'm still taking Benadryl. I also was unable to do anything requiring energy and had to cancel my snowboarding lessons. I have no idea what's in the food, which was not tasty either, but DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU CANNOT TOLERATE GLUTEN. I hate writing bad reviews, but if my avoidance of wheat was more severe, they could have killed me. Label your food right. Gluten is barley, rye, and wheat. It's often in soy sauce and many other Asian ingredients. I share my experience with the reaction so maybe ownership will read this and understand the severity. Cross contamination is always a risk, but mislabeling is dangerous. read more

Great local place -- especially awesome on busy Holiday weekends as it has a great atmosphere, fantastic food, great service, and shorter waits. Great beer and wine list. And even free parking out front and in an upper lot just up the hill. Ownership has changed and while several favorites remain on the menu (like the really good Toast burger!) they have also ADDED really really tasty Indian dishes. Best Butter Chicken that I have tasted! And you must order the Naan (choose from plain, garlic and butter). Can't wait as they have a smoker and have Tandoori chicken thighs coming soon! Just another reason to return. This is a go-to local place. I travel a lot and the Indian dishes are top notch. The salads, soup and burger are also excellent. June 24, we visited this restaurant from Stockton CA, we came here to check out Lake Tahoe, but we came across this food spot. Starting off service was great, they greeted us and got us seated right away. We had a party of 8 people and we requested many things, even some random appliances, although we kept bothering them they kept a happy attitude and delivered us the items. The food wait is under 5 minutes, which is pretty quick for a restaurant. Now the food, their naan was very tasty, my whole party mentioned it. The paneer was also pretty good. Honestly this place deserves a five star based off three things, their service, their attitude, and the food. All three are very well improved on. Wish best luck for this restaurant. read more

This is my first review ever, and I hope I never have to write one like this again. Avoid this restaurant if you want good food and decent service. Our experience was terrible. We waited over 45 minutes for our food, which was very disappointing. The portions were small, the dal was too salty, and we found a piece of paper in the butter chicken. When we complained, the owner didn't care and didn't apologize or offer a replacement. We even got a dirty look for not leaving a tip. All the other positive reviews are fake.
