My wife and two sons decided to stop by Toby's Ice Cream in May 2026 after dining out on a Saturday night. We ordered several cups of their ube flavor (bright purple sweet potato). Toby's is just as awesome in May 2026 as when I first visited in summer 2025! Another popular flavor was cinnamon. You can ask for a tiny sample of two flavors. The staff were professional with more brisk service (an improvement from summer 2025). Although it's a tiny space without seats, you can enjoy your ice cream in Adirondack style chairs outside in the plaza. Glad to see this business is thriving. Such a cute shop! We went here since it's right next to The Red Bird and then finding out it's filipino owned! We were super excited to hopefully try filipino flavors but they didn't seem to have anything at that time other than Ube, which was a bit disappointing. But we still found the flavors we got delicious! The Old School Vanilla Chip was significantly better than the Mint Chocolate Chip as that tasted like any other mint chip ice cream. With 15-20 flavors, the Apple Pie flavor with a cinnamon base and chunks of apple pie was a stand-out! It's bursting with flavor in every bite! There's a good mix of traditional, classic flavors and unique flavors with some rotating seasonal flavors. My daughter enjoyed purple Ube ice cream and hubby liked the Mint Chocolate Chip. Some of the flavors like S'mores are a bit more plain and bland with toppings spread out and not densely packed. There are a few small tables inside and a chair outside. Want toppings? This place is stellar, it does get busy so fair warning, but their workers were super helpful with helping us choose flavors as it was our first time being there. I'm a sucker for anything ube, and when I saw ube ice cream on the menu, I knew I had to try it out here. They were kind enough to let me try a few different flavors, and I settled on my classic favorite which is ube. My husband decided on the pandan and cafe au lait. We shared all three flavors together and man, was every single flavor delicious! Nothing was overly sweet, which is perfect because I can't stand overly sweet desserts. This place offers great house-made ice cream, with some flavors being Filipino-influenced such as ube (purple yam), buko pandan (coconut) and calamansi. The flavors taste "pure" and not artificially flavored. You can tell it is made with thought and care. The mint chocolate chip was lightly minty, filled with delicious chocolate chips. The ube was rich and flavorful. The s'mores ice cream you can really taste each and every component of a s'more. The espresso chip also had great espresso based flavor and worked well with the chocolate. They also offer milkshakes, different ways of serving ice cream, as well as take home pints and "pupsicles." I have been looking forward to trying this place, however, after trying a few different ice creams they weee all freezer burned. Omgosh, it's a truly nostalgic moment for me. The vienna location is located in a semi busy shopping center. Plenty of parking. The establishment is clean and welcoming and has limited seats inside and four outdoor chairs. We opted to sit outdoors and enjoyed the warm weather. The pricing is reasonable for homemade. It is much more affordable than chain ice cream shops. They do allow 2 tasting samples only. Wish it could be more since I'm such an ice cream fanatic. However, two is UNDERSTANDABLE as there are vultures who do not respect small businesses. Usually i find this flavor to be cloyingly marshmallow-y. But this was a perfect balance of flavors and not too sweet - and excellent counter-balance to the espresso. They had the pandan flavor today and I was really excited to get it because I love pandan based desserts. I don't see this ice cream flavor ever! If you look past the alien green food-coloring (which dyed my entire tongue, lol) and focus on the flavors, it's there. My first interaction with Toby's was when dropped their cicada sundae during the big infestation of 2021. I stayed in line, masked, six feet apart from other customers, just to get a taste of some ice cream decorated to look like a scary bug. Those were wild times man. The hype was real, and Toby's has since expanded to a second location in Vienna. I had heard that they were releasing a special menu just for AAPI month (this store is proudly Filipino owned) and I didn't want to miss out. On the menu were items like ube, pandan, macapuno, mango, and calamansi. We got a scoop of pandan and ube to share and were impressed with how thick, creamy, and infused the flavors were -- this was the real deal! Toby's truly has ruined Magnolia ice cream for me forever. While we were enjoying our scoops, we noticed tons of groups of friends and families stopping by to grab a cone or two. Toby's ice cream was smooth and tasty.  We tried both a milkshake and a waffle cone on a recent visit.  There is not much better than the smell of freshly baked waffle cone - mmmmm.  And that is the first thing you notice upon entering.  The line follows along the counter where there are really helpful visual aids detailing all the available toppings and showing the sizes of the cups and cones.  This should speed up the decision making process but, despite the flavors being listed clearly on the board, one can't help but pause and look and contemplate as you pass by the freezer sections showing  your numerous options.  It was definitely hard to choose! We opted for an expresso chocolate chip for the sundae (tasty, but, note to self - chocolate bits and straw - not a well thought out plan.  The sundae had salted caramel and coconut chocolate crunch.  The coconut flavor was really strong and our favorite.  Though the seating inside is a little limited, there are a couple of Adirondack chairs out front as well.  The ice cream servers are friendly and patient.  The lots is really big and parking is absolutely no problem. read more

We decided to check out Toby's on a Sunday afternoon. When we entered the store, we were the only customers; however, that wasn't the case when we left the store as it was bustling with people! I've been to almost all of the ice cream parlors/shops in the area, and I would say that I'd definitely come back to Toby's! I only wished we lived closer so that I can take advantage of having some delicious ice creams all the time. There are ton of flavors to choose from--we decided on: ube, espresso chips, chocolate, vanilla, and coconut chocolate crunch. And I would say that all of them were SO good! Each was so rich in its flavor. I've been to some places where I will not be able to taste the richness in chocolate or mint or whichever flavor we'll get; however, this wasn't the case here. And the portions were very reasonable for the price. I can't wait to make another trip to try other flavors! Side Note: 1. Having read about the cicada ice cream, I'm sad to have missed out on that. Interesting buzz pardon the pun, but cicadas are nutritious. I must say I like this place. Located in Cedar Park Mall on that street and Park, this is a nice family place. Their ice cream is delicious. Lots of flavors, some traditional, while others are out there. Being creative I applaud their being bold! All of the ice creams I've had here are quite good. They do milkshakes too. It's a clean shop and quite comfortable. I've had this place on my go-to list for some time and finally got around to trying it. I was excited to taste their unique flavors; Ube, Calamansi, and Pandan. When I looked at the window display, I noticed that many tubs were freezer-burned (they either have ice covering the rims or the ice cream itself is all covered in crystalized ice). Since Pandan was a seasonal flavor and was out that day, I asked to taste Calamansi. The flavor was good, but the bite I took was just all mixed with crystalized ice. I asked for Ube only. I kept asking the young lady to avoid scooping the cryztalized parts. I paid $9 for the large cup. The ice cream was ok, but the experience was underwhelming. I contacted management to draw their attention to the quality control issue. The automatic email said they will get back to me in 24-48 hrs max, but I never heard back from them. I'm disappointed that I wont go back again and won't recommend that place. It's unfortunate that a mom-and-pop shop would compromise on quality and communication with customers in that way. read more
