This place is great! We were walking around starved and realized we've never tried Tocaya before so we took a quick look at the menu and went in. The staff are all pretty busy, but they're all so sweet. Got the taco combo (which comes with 2 tacos, a side, and an agua fresca) and a birria bowl. The food is pretty tasty, I think the mahi mahi taco was the best thing ever, the steak taco was pretty good but nothing crazy. I really enjoyed my birria bowl. It's salty, which I am a fiend for, but it can get boring after a few bites, thankfully they come with these pickled jalapeño onion carrots that provide the PERFECT bite and sourness to mix things up. I made myself a tiny burrito with the tortilla that comes with it, and felt unbelievably full with half of it still left. The aguas frescas are pretty good too, got the cucumber mint and it was so refreshing. Chips and salsa I think weren't too interesting, the salsa mainly has a spicy sweet tomatoey flavor. It was happy hour (weekdays 3pm-6pm) so my chips and salsa were only $2! I love their outdoor seating area and it was a great place to catch up with a friend. The food came out quickly and tasted great. The street corn en fuego had a spicy symbol next to it and there was indeed a little spice, not a ton if that's what you're looking for. First let me say I love this Tocaya Mexican restaurant it really has great food is always fresh but their homemade queso and chips the queso is horrible everything else was fabulous the tacos were fabulous the burrito was fabulous the guacamole and chips is fabulous but that homemade queso is horrible. Great pricing (and a visit) during Taco Tuesday. This used to be the most amazing steal, as of more recently (2026), it's still a discount on the normal taco menu, and you can have dinner for two around $20. Food: I had one tinga (chicken) taco and one quesabirria taco; chips and guacamole (full size to share). The tinga taco is a little spicy and a great choice while the quesabirria is an even better one served on a blue corn tortilla with melted cheese inside. Guacamole here is served with pomegranate seeds which is a fun twist, and you can request either plantain chips or tortilla chips (I went for tortilla). Fun tip: you can ask for more chips and they'll refill. Some days the chips are amazing and warm, this latest visit they were just ok and room-temp. This is in the century city mall, so be aware if you come at the wrong time it'll be hard to find a seat. It was pulled chicken in a reddish stew, black whole beans next to a bed of rice and some pickled peppers. I liked it. The service was also great, from the person who took my order to the one who dropped off the food. Everyone was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. I ordered four tacos: steak, Tinga, cauliflower, and Baja. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. The steak, Tinga, and cauliflower tacos were bland and really needed more flavor or a kick. The Baja taco, on the other hand, was the star -- crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The cucumber mint drink was also so good, very refreshing and light, the perfect complement to the meal. I ordered the California Burrito which has carne asada listed as the first ingredient which I assume was the main ingredient. The burrito size was smaller than expected and cut in half. All the carne asada is at the top for display and is gone within 2 bites. It also had very little toppings like guac pico de gallo. The burrito was at least 50% purple potato which is not what I ordered. The majority is purely potato which is not what I paid for. Tocaya is a great option for families, both in the restaurant since you order at the counter and for take-out. We used to be at the Westwood location every week until it closed down and continue to order take-out from Century City. Both of my kids have food allergies, but thankfully the menu is easy to navigate. One of my kids has a dairy and egg allergy, so I love that there are grilled chicken strips. However, they're inconsistent at best. They are often overcooked or undercooked and barely edible. This last time we ordered these they were completely raw. Tocaya needs to do better. read more

We have been avoiding this location for almost a year and decided to give it a try again since it is under new management. When ordering our food, the server continuously cut me off when asking questions about the menu and didn't let me speak. He seemed to be rushing me even though there was only a few people in the restaurant. Following this, our food took over 20 minutes to come out of the kitchen and was incorrect. When we told the server that the food was not what we ordered, he seemed as if he didn't understand English and left the food on the table even after we told him it was incorrect. We also had to remind them that they forgot one of our sides. They finally took the food away and brought us out the correct order but it was cold. I usually really love this place, but I'm getting really annoyed at how how they packaged their things When you add salmon to a salad, they literally stick it on top of the salad in the same container and it makes the salad very soggy. The salmon should be in a separate container to avoid getting the salad soggy. This should just be a regular Protocol they follow. They also give you a tiny container of dressing, which barely gets through you any of the salad like literally not enough for anything... And they also stick that into the salad and everything just becomes so squishy... They should include a bigger dressing. It should be on the side and if you add salmon or chicken, it should also be on the side. Now for the tacos, especially when order to go. It's really frustrating that they put all the sauces on the taco itself. It made the Baja fish so soggy... I think that this place really needs to practice better protocol for how to pack to go items. read more

The person behind the counter allowed us to try samples of the agua fresca choices - the strawberry was surprisingly not too sweet and one free refill is included in the price. The red salsa accompanying the chips was light, fresh, fruity, and a great consistency. The chips were warm with a good thickness. The salmon bowl was large with a big piece of well cooked salmon. Dressing was tasty. The birria torta, a summer special, was delicious. The meat was plentiful and very juicy. The accompanying tomatillo crème was flavorful. The churro bites, however, were disappointing. They looked and tasted like a waffle which was cut into pieces and rolled in cinnamon sugar. Literally just left and feel very compelled to write this after the service we just experienced. I've been to this tocaya more times than I can count so I have a good overall judge of the location. Today was a deal breaker though. Let me begin by saying the staff at the counter has always been super friendly and taken our orders properly (re allergies etc) and it's very comfortable with the indoor/outdoor seating. There was an occasion recently where I bit into a burrito and pulled out a huge piece of paper!? I don't even know how this happened but they made a new one quickly and apologized. I'll be honest though it was kinda gross. What happened today however was more attitude from a staff member. We ordered burritos and a tamale and sat down. Mind you we were splitting the burrito as they always cut them in half. The guy brings the burrito not cut so we kindly asked if it could be because we were splitting it and its more even that way (plus they always but it) and he looks at us, picks up a knife and hands it to my boyfriend and says "here". He had such attitude and the oddest part was everyone around us that had burritos were served them cut in half? I thought it was odd but his attitude was just completely unnecessary. We also asked for more utensils and he just left and never came back. Honestly was just so put off and disappointed. Great food, but $44.00 for two burritos and two tacos is too expensive for poor quality maintenance. The wood floors are sticky, chairs are filthy and sticky, everything needs a make over and floors need to be refinished.
