To start I called many places to see what they charge to fix a tire, one with a slow leak and one with a nail in it. After way too many questions like "Are you sure it's a screw" and "We can't tell you a price until you bring it in and we get it off the car." I remembered Todd's, 1 phone call and it was "Sure we can fix it." I walked in the next day to a TOTALLY courteous and professional staff. They asked the problem and took my keys...30 min or so my car was done and there was an additional nail I hadn't seen. FREE! It was done for free... I plan to give them as much of my business as I can. Ladies, it is a great thing that you can walk into a car place and not have them try to rip you off because they think they can. The idea of going to a mechanic is about as appealing as getting teeth pulled. I know nothing of cars, so I just have to hope that whoever is helping me is honorable and doesn't just see me as a quick buck. Luckily, I found Todd's and no longer have to wonder if my lack of knowledge in this specific arena is being taken advantage of. A few months ago, my boyfriend and I decided to take a car that we had just purchased here to get it checked out. They gave it the all clear, but recommended we get the tie rods changed. My boyfriend had already diagnosed that prior to our bringing it in, so there were no surprises there. I don't remember how much we paid, but my boyfriend thought it was reasonable and it didn't break the bank. When my boyfriend got a call from me letting him know that something was hanging from the under carriage of my car and making a horrible scraping sound while I was driving, he recommended that I take it to Todd's since he wouldn't be home from work until late. I called Todd's to make sure they had time and they told me to come on in. When I walked in, there was one employee who came over to me quickly. I explained what had happened. He got my keys from me and said he would have someone take a quick look before letting me know how long I would be without my car. About 10 minutes later, he came back in and told me that it was all taken care of and that I could pick my car up out front, no charge. Although I have my fingers crossed that I won't have to be in often, I definitely plan on coming back anytime my car starts acting up. read more

Todd the Tire Guy is never allowed to retire. Todd has supplied me with now 2 sets of tires, a set of brakes, and an oil change, and the service is always top notch. Always honest and up front about what service the car needs. Helpful in planning what work is immediately needed, as well as what should be considered but can be put off for a few months (for the budget conscious). Went to Todd's to find out why my car was whining while turning. I found out it was a leak in the power steering gear. That would need to be replaced. Furthermore I needed a flush of the power steering system an a alignment, costing $800-$1000. I put in some Lucas stop leaks for power steering fluid leaks and main problem solved. This is not Less Swab. The prices are better, ther service is coplimntary and they often help out when they aren't obligated to. So they are the closest tire shop to my home and as such when my car (which seems to happen all too often) find a nail I need it repaired. They do this for free. Their reasoning is that they "only work" on tires they sell but these were factory on the car and so I never bought tires. So when my other car needed tires, I got them here and it was great. I often frequent the Tire Factory on Sunnyside as years ago they gave me the best price on a tire and I have just kept going there but the service was never the best. But now I go here. read more

I live close to the shop and my battery died one day right at closing time, and the guys there walked down the street and boosted my car so I could drive to the shop. Then they stayed open (even though it was now 15 minutes after closing) and replaced my battery so that I could take my out of town guest around town. Michelin tires bought here died prior to half their warranted lifetime. They were warranted for 80K miles and died at 38K. One of the tires was my fault, as I didn't notice it was low for too long. At intake, without even measuring tread or examination more than a walk around, I was told they weren't warrantable. Rotations were done mostly in their store, but they couldn't access their former computer system to prove that. I was told that my particular car was "hard on tires." After an initial disappointing interaction with an employee, the owner was more forgiving the next day, and did give me quite a bit of free service due in addition to a relatively reasonable price on new tires--free oil change, engine and cabin filters, alignment, and wipers. I left fairly pleased. Not a five star, as my satisfaction required a 2nd visit. No one ever actually inspected my tires beyond a walk by (no one touched the old tires until they were removing them to replace) except the bad one. I'm sure they were able to sell the 3 non-damaged tires, as they had life left. Last fall, with 4200 fewer miles, I was quoted a warranty trade-in of $368 at the same place, and suddenly that warranty had disappeared. This week, I got some free services worth much less than that tossed in. Todd is quite concerned with customer service, and I will likely return. Better than your average place, but I still feel vaguely ripped off on my tires, which were supposed to be "good" tires, which I paid a premium for. I do actually watch my tire pressures and fill at the gas station. I do get my tires rotated as recommended. Don't count on being a regular somewhere to maintain your rotation schedule. Note when you add air as needed somewhere, and what your pressures are. read more

These guys go above and beyond. Came in with tire issues on very short notice, in a bind and they went out of their way to make it work. While waiting also had a chance to watch their customer service and sales in action. Informative, no pressure to buy, extremely helpful, work with the customer needs. Mechanics also very easy to work with, good communications skills. New to Portland and with no resources yet, based on a friends tip I'm liking these guys to take care of our auto needs. First time there was a bad experience. I went here because of a new relationship Lyft has with Point S, and I am a Lyft driver. I don't usually take the time to review places, but felt I should in this case. Went in with a slow leak. They claimed that a nail was bent inside causing a groove in the sidewall meaning a replacement tire was needed. When I inspected the tire myself, no groove was present. Lying is not a good business practice, guys. I asked to have the donut put on so I could take care of it another way, and I had to wait 15-20 minutes just to have the donut on. Also, the water that is labeled with an Earth2O label tastes like rubber and is clearly not the product of a company my good friend delivers for. If I would have gone to Double J on Holgate like I usually do, I would have gotten fast and friendly service. Maybe other point S locations are better? They get two stars because the woman behind the counter offered me coupons for free bowling to Kingpins when she heard me talking about taking my family bowling for Father's day. read more

We've been going here for years, and now they're Todd's Point S (new co-op with larger buying power, Todd says), they're still just as good. Like the other reviewers say, customer service is tops, nobody's trying to get you to spend more money than you need. They're conscientious, fast, efficient, fair and pleasant. So, I have been to this Tire Factory location 4 times now. Every time they have been super courteous and professional. I, like lots of other people, am very wary of mechanics because of all the potential for screwjobs and incompetency. I took a chance on these guys when I bought tires for my Explorer, Henry, and the gamble paid off. Last week Henry started blowing only cold air and by the power of the great Google, I figured out that I needed a new Blend Door Motor (whatever the hell that is.) After calling around, I was left with the terrible news that this would be about a $700 job. Tire Factory quoted me at $750 because its a labor intensive job and they weren't quite sure how long it would take. I trusted their work and so I made an appointment to spend 750 smackaroonies. Kevin, who has been at the front desk every time I've gone in, was super nice as always and made me feel confident in my choice of mechanics. When I came back later that day to pick ole' Henry up, he was good as new! But here's the kicker: the mechanic who worked on my car (Jeff, who was really cool) just so happened to have a weird tool that allowed him to work on Henry without having to dismantle the dash as much as he thought he would have. So I came out spending $268 dollars less than what I thought I was going to spend!! Now listen, they could have easily told me that it was a long hard job (tee-hee) but they didn't they were honest. It's Christmas time and with 5 kids to shop for, this was an amazing gift they gave me. They have earned my utmost loyalty and highest of praise. read more

This isn't just a tire store they do full service mechanic work.....who knew. I know a little something about cars and I know it's hard to find a shop that is honest, knowledgable, and affordable and this shop is excellent. Most shops try to pull one over on you if you are female but not here....I fully trust these guys and on top of that they are personable and a lot of fun. I used to like these guys, but apparently they have lost all passion for their work and all commitment to quality. Damaged or removed new parts as needed to hasten a repair doing a total hack job. When confronted, attempted to control conversation via insult, and when that didn't work hung up phone. Customer service is as inconsiderate as actual repair work. Avoid. read more

When my regular mechanic retired I was in a real pickle. At the time I owned a highly modified Nissan and taking it in to just any shop didn't work. Even getting alignments was a huge hassle. An other company looked at my car for 2 hours and still got it super wrong, lets call them More Schwibb. I had some brake system issues and was forced to go to Todd's (as it was close enough to limp the car to) and what a happy accident that turned out to be. The guys there didn't even flinch at the mishmash of cars I called a 240sx. The cleared up my problems and got me going really quickly. I had a few great conversations with a few of the mechanics and they seem to be all over their jobs. I took that car to them exclusively until I sold it a year or so ago. I now bring my new regular car to them as I trust them and well, that's hard to find. Highly recommended for modified cars, these guys won't hurt your baby. read more

Deceptive Service. I went in to get my tire fixed. There was a nail in it and was consistantly leaking air every 2 weeks. I went in the first time and paid 10 bucks for them to fix it. They said it was fixed and all is good. 3 weeks later my tire starts leaking air again. Came in again and this time they said the tire cannot be fixed since all the tires are worn out and must be changed immediately. Why didnt they say this 3 weeks ago. Well I asked for the price to change all tires and guess what. They were asking for 650- 700 for all tires to be changed. I walked out and went to another place. Dick's Tire Inc. They fixed the tire and showed me why my tire was leaking air. Turns out the Tire Factory plugged the hole and never took out the nail. Shaddy. I got an estimate at Dick's and it's only 415 bucks to change all my tires. Will never go to Charlie Bretz Tire Factory again. Never Again!! read more

I've been going to Todd's Tire Factory now for a couple of years. I find that they've been trustworthy, courteous and knowledgeable. Todd always tries to work within your budget to give you the best possible options and save you money. I recently had my car in to have the brakes replaced. While the tech was in the process of replacement, he noticed the Ball joints were severely worn. Todd immediately notified me of the issue and wanted to know if I'd like to have those replaced as well. Since the wheels were already off the vehicle it would save me time and money to have the work done at that time. I then shared with him some recent experiences I've had regarding to steering and handling. The car had a severe wobble/vibration while driving which could be felt predominantly through the steering wheel. It would also require constant steering correction just to in the lane. After ruling out wheel alignment. He indicated that the worn Ball joints could certainly be a major part of the handling problem. After discussing other possible causes, I had them do the recommended repairs. Now, not only does my car drive, handle and feel 100% better - Todd saved me a ton of cash in the process. In my book, Todd's Tire Factory gets two thumbs up! read more
