Oh, this whole team is a gem. Your teeth are well taken care of here. I'm more than half way through my treatment and they have gotten my smile looking better. The Invisalign retainers are easy to use and wear. The office is beautiful and easy to get to via public transit and there's a parking garage nearby as well. For my bottom teeth, braces had to be used due to crowding, so, in some cases braces may still be used. Im very happy with the services and experience with Dr Todor and his office crew. Wow! I was so impressed with this practice! First the office is located in a beautiful part of SF right across the street from Union Square. The office is clean and the receptionist greeted me by offering chilled or room temp water. I was escorted to the consult office right away. Carmela the clinical manager and treatment coordinator was so thorough. She explained the whole process and guided me through my free consultation appointment. Pros: AI-based at-home monitoring is convenient. Fast appointment availability. The dental assistants are generally nice. Moving Teeth with Active Disease Standard practice is to stabalize periodontal disease before moving teeth. However, with Todor he moved my teeth in the presence of active disease which I think was highly questionable. Expensive My treatment was over ~$9,000 in 2024, which is well above the market rate based on my experience (in San Francisco). High-Pressure Sales I experienced a lot of sales pressure during the initial consultation with their Treatment Coordinator. I learned the practice works with TIO International, a consultancy firm that works with orthodontic practices for the purposes of increasing patient growth. TIO International recommends sales training for practices to have Treatment Coordinators overcome objections and use persuasive responses in order to convert more prospective customers into "loyal practice members." They also recommend the implementation of limited time offers to encourage action. Each of these elements reflected clearly in my experience. The process was driven heavily by the Treatment Coordinator rather than the doctor and they utilized artificial urgency to push for an immediate financial commitment. It felt transactional, not clinical. Conditioning Refund on Silence I saw multiple critical reviews on Google that later were no longer visible when I checked again (I have screen shots of several) and then I noticed my review was at one point became no longer publicly visible although I could see it privately from my personal account. I can't confirm the cause, but it was concerning. After I raised concerns about this pattern, I was dismissed as a patient mid-treatment of an active series a few days later (which put me in a difficult situation). The office then conditioned my refund on a "Release" contract. I needed those funds to continue treatment elsewhere given the high costs of orthodontic treatment. The contract explicitly contained a clauses prohibiting me from talking about the business and included highly restrictive clauses. In California, provisions conditioning a refund on a waiver of consumer free speech rights are unenforceable and void under Civil Code § 1748.50. I felt I had no practical choice but to sign if I wanted my refund so I could continue treatment elsewhere. In an email, I was asked to "Please kindly remove your reviews on any social media about our business. I will proceed with the next steps." As you can tell if you are reading this, I will not be doing that. Friction when accessing patient records When I requested my patient, I often faced more friction than I normally experience with other practices. In one case, when I requested my patient records (because I was doing consultations with other practices), communication felt unnecessarily procedural. In response to my records request, I was told: "We do things in order here, and I am guiding you through the process/steps... you will receive another form to sign... Once signed, I can keep moving forward." That came across as if my records request was being treated as "out of order" with their sequence. read more
