Located in the Hanin Village plaza - plenty of parking - also pretty transit friendly if you decide to walk over from Lougheed. Place gets busy very quickly - so you will want to reserve ahead of time if possible - as the wait can get pretty long. Ventilation for our table was so bad - just kept blowing fumes right into our face - smelled good, but the excessive smoke a bit much. Service was friendly - However, very very slow - just getting the basic tea/water and utensils was a wait - and the wait for the raw meat was even longer -. Korean BBQ place in the Korean-centric Hanin Village plaza in Coquitlam. Went for dinner on a Saturday and luckily didn't have to wait. Probably went a little earlier than other folks, as the place the fill up while we were dining. Mid-small size interior. Each table has the fume hood and the round grill plate in the middle for cooking the meats, with pull down blinds as dividers. We got a selection of beef to grill. Beef tongue, rib meat, and round. All were pretty good on the grill and the meat seems good quality. You get three dipping sauces and some veggie garnish to eat the meat with. In addition, we also got their beef tartare, which is seasoned beef chopped into small strips, with a raw egg on top, and seaweed, lettuce and pear pieces on the bottom. Mixed together it was actually pretty refreshing, and no gamey/bloody taste at all. Finally, also had their seafood pancake. Their pancake is a bit different than other Korean seafood pancakes I've tried. It's thicker with crispy strips on the outside, and a doughy seafood center. I liked it. Overall the food was good. Ended up paying $75 per person before tips, so definitely not cheap. read more

It took 2 attempts to get into the door at Toe Dam. The first time didn't work out as it was quite popular showing why there's a time limit for customers. The 2nd time we got a table and a chance to chow. We were a group of 6 for this meal. We went with the premium set to pretty much make sure we had a ton of food. It came with a ton of raw meats along with salad, 2 soups, 2 pancakes, japchae, and sides. We had to work pretty hard as a group to finish all the food. Presentation for a kbbq spot was solid as were all very excited when the next plate arrived despite the spacing issue we quickly found ourselves in. I don't think there was a standout but were haply with all the food. Service was good. The staff were very accommodating of all long it took for us to clear off plates. We managed to get refills of sides fairly handily. We were celebrating a birthday and they were nice enough to let us borrow their refrigerator. Overall, great experience at Toe Dam. Made a reservation to this restaurant asking for a table of 10. They said they will separate us into two tables. I said ok. Showed up the next day with my party, but they said they don't accept our large size group. I said I made reservation already for two tables. The servers talked about the situation and admitted their mistake. I think they booked too many reservations that night so I told them, we will fit our party at one table. We turned out to be 8 people so we squished all into one table. Unfortunately they gave us the table that had a massive pillar against the table. 5 minutes later, another table opened up and we asked to go there for more space, but their air head waiter said that table was reserved. Before seating, the servers pressured us to order quickly and pushed us to order the Luxury Set, which is $300 and meant for 4 people (it came with only 4 rice which is how I knew). We have 8 people. I had meet up with some group of friends for dinner. Toedam is a great place to have Korean dinner so I was excited. We ordered the following: 2 bowls of Makgooksu ($14.95 each), Yang Gopchang Jeongol (large $57.95), Spicy Jukkumi ($30.95). They were all pretty good. Makgooksu was flavourful and refreshing. Yang Gopchang Jeongol was also tasty. Spicy Jukkumi (spicy baby octopus) was tasty and little spicy. Loved the chewy texture as well. I couldn't stop sipping soup from Yang Gopchang Jeongol. The intestines in the soup added more flavours to the soup which was nice. Also the staff remembered our request by omitting Yang Gopchang. Banchan selection was good too it had onion pickles, kelp (or seaweed I think), pickled radish and spicy radish (Kkak doo gi). FYI, this resto is hot and humid in summer. Similar to Bbong restaurant next door I assume there's no air conditioning. Rooms and dining tables are socially distanced. I'm always craving for Korean marinated raw crab. So on my friend's recommendation, I came here to try out their marinated crab! They were super meaty and well-marinated. I also love the roe. Since the crabs are on the saltier side, it's best to pair it with rice. Aside from the crab, we also ordered the premium set. The set includes 4 types of meat cuts, marinated beef short ribs and chicken, seafood pancake, bean paste soup, as well as marinated raw crab. The meat quality is excellent, I also really enjoyed the bean paste soup. However I do think the seafood pancake is too thick and a little bit undercooked. I ordered 1/2 duck course and it came with ample duck for BBQ and duck tang (soup) together with many side dishes and Korean lettuce wraps. My wife and I were totally full after this meal. I was hesitating at first cause I've only tried Chinese BBQ duck but my father suggested so we ordered a day in advance and I'm pleasantly surprised. My husband is a bit non adventitious when it comes to non beef or pork or chicken, so we ordered an extra side order of Samgyupsal (Korean side pork belly) and he was happy. The servers were great, especially when it was packed but FYI: this is a Korean BBQ joint, so don't wear anything too fancy or leave it inside your car. SUMMARY: Fast, attentive service, with really great cuts of meat for BBQ. The only downside is that similar to most Korean BBQ, it's not cheap. Come check this place out if you're in the neighbourhood. FOOD: 4 stars. We ordered the pork belly, bulgogi (marinades beef), kimchi fried rice, and enjoyed the assortment of free side dishes. We ordered the half roasted duck bbq with duck soup and beef intestines. They gave us 4 romaine lettuce for the bbq since we had 4 people. It would have been nice to get more of it. Basically, you'd do a lettuce wrap of the meat, garlic, pepper, and dip your wrap in the sauce they gave you. Delicious!! The beef intestines dish was ok. If you're looking to do their duck specialty, I'd recommend the whole duck one instead as it comes with duck stew. The lunch combos look quite good. Both set menu comes well prepared meats with side dishes; marinated soft shell crabs, amazing fluffy steamed egg, 2 salads with house dressing which we absolutely love, the kimchi stew was delicious with rice perfect to finish the meal. My brother and his wife were in search of the best cold noodles in town. My wife suggested they try Toe Dam. His wife is from Harbin in China, which is pretty close to Korea so they were hoping for something that hit home. This was the right place, their particular brand of buckwheat noodle was almost exactly what they were looking for! I on the other hand, had the Gaibi, which was pretty good in comparison to other Korean restaurants. I would come back here again. The only concern I had was them wanting you to take off your shoes to sit in the booth. I know it's a customary thing, but in the summer I rarely wear socks and it just didn't seem hygienic to me. I've been coming here for years and it seems like something has happened to the management/ownership of this restaurant recently. Servers are trying their best but the food comes out extremely slow, portion has gotten smaller, and the good servers who used to be here all the time have disappeared. For a group of 6 of us, we ordered a seafood pancake, a pork belly bbq, spicy octopus, beef bbq and a side order of kimchi fried rice. Everything was pretty good but the fried rice. The rice was kinda meh to me. Like I was able to make it myself from a bag of kimchi sauce. I'm not usually someone to have spicy food but I still felt that the octopus was really good though it did have a lot more veggies than octopus. I am to say they gave us really good customer service. When I mentioned that i have a sesame allergy not only the server told me but this lady who I believe is the owner came out to tell me that half the things we ordered I can't eat. My allergy isn't deadly, so I told her it was fine. But she worries so for one of the sauces she told me to just have it with salt instead of the sauce. How nice of her to care. Overall, I believe this is a mama and papa kinda restaurant where it seems to always be line ups. There were at least 6 people in line when we left and the place wasn't that big either.
