Such an enjoyable visit with Janet --- I agree that her items are easier to find and even though the space is saller than across the street. Very knowledgeable about the items she is selling and helpful to both daughters as they both picked up a different version of the stone. Even though my cdaughter s are both in thir mid are in their 40s --- I had to laugh because of the look of wonder in their eyes and unbeknownst to either one - each chose an opal. That was my Aunt Mary Ann's favorite gem. Janet is so hospitable, friendly, informative and accomodating. On the way home from Hoosick Falls, my youngest began to hint about the next time - HA!

We literally spent an hour with Janet in the shop, SHE IS GREAT!!! We continued to talk about Janet for the rest of our girls weekend, that I could spend a weekend with her and hear her stories & just be in her presence! I was very happy to see all the diverse items that she promotes and inspires in the middle of what might be a less than liberal area, She sells and donates the proceeds of Haitian art back to the Haitian communities. She had SO MUCH jewelry in her shop and if you would mention something she INSTANTLY knew where it was on a random table. You could spend all day in there and still not see all she had. My sister liked one thing and instantly she made it into something else. She was just great & I want to hang out with her & hear her stories! She was a great soul and really had beautiful items! She is moving across the street and we told her we would definitely come back next time we are in town.

There are items here that would be priced three times as high in a boutique in Boston or New York. Some of my finds from Junque include an art nouveau-style orchid pin ($3), an old silver hairbrush ($6), and an enormous swathe of velvet and lace damask from the '20s ($20). The bakery and café next door (Nova Mae) is humble and quaint, but offers some of the best and most inexpensive food in town. I'm more accustomed to fancier places, but have always been happy with the food and service here. Their pastries are especially good. And they offer students half a sandwich and a soup or salad for $5!
