Let me first say that I have been eating at Tog's for years and it's been a go to spot for most things fish. That said, things have changed. Yesterday I ordered a mixed seafood platter and, it was ok except for the fish, which was inedibly as tough as a bad steak! I would have brought it back but, I ordered to go and they soon closed. The overall quality of fish, both fresh and cooked has slipped noticeably and a coveted spot dockside has lost its shine. Disappointing to say the least, as this has always been a favorite of many locals. Maybe ownership needs to be a little more hands on approach and realize, it's not just a tourist spot! read more

Let me be the first one to say this is one of the best seafood places by far I've been to in the country. Amazing fresh oysters and other lunch options. Me and my fiancé went out of our way on a cross country road trip from San Fran to go here before we headed to the east coast. Went to Dockside Too this last weekend when we stopped by Morro to see the baby sea otters! This place had good reviews and definitely like a fantastic place for fresh fish (as we ate, we could see fishermen unloading their catches and bringing it to the back of the restaurant!). They have many fish options, and you can always ask them for what they recommend at the moment. For food choices though, we tried the BBQ oysters and I highly recommend getting some of those! We also tried their wakame salad and it was surprisingly good too - tangy, and refreshing on a warm day. My entrée was the Pacific Cod (fried) sandwich with a side of fries. The fries were crispy and tasty, and the fish was incredibly fresh! I would have liked a sauce on the sandwich personally, but the fish was spot-on. My husband ordered the clam chowder bread bowl, and that had delicious spices that I highly recommend. For seating, you have to somewhat circle around until you find an open table, but our group was 14 people ultimately ended up with three tables right by the water and right by each other. Their patio really does have a fantastic view of the harbor, with a few seals and sea otters periodically swimming past. I recommend coming here for that, if nothing else! This place used to be in the building that looks like a clipper boat. Now it's behind the bathrooms on the water. Same food it has always had. When it comes to seafood I am a purist. I go here for the scallop and shrimp kabobs. Always barbecue to perfection and lots of food. Only discounting one star because of the prices. It was probably one of the best fish n' chips I've ever had. The chips were also great!! - 4 BBQ oysters (1.5 apiece) - One of their signature dishes. It is your open face oyster drenched in a buttery sauce that was great! - 4 regular oyster (1.50 apiece) - Call me a traditionalist, but I liked the classic raw oyster with lemon over the BBQ oyster. I would probably still order both kinds on my next visit, but I would just finish my oyster course with one of these yummy babies. So fresh, so good, and so cheap! - 1 small clam chowder (3.95) - A super creamy and thick clam chowder that was full of goodies. It was good and helped warm me up after kayaking on the cold water - 1 blue moon on draft (4.5) - you have to wash it down with a good beer On top of the amazing food, the service was wonderful. Best BBQ oysters with garlic butter EVER. Omg! I'd definitely come back for more!! If you're ever driving up the 1 freeway, stop by this place. You won't regret it. My friend recommended the place and since we were driving back to LA from big sur, we decided to try. Good thing we did!! It's all outdoor seating but they have umbrellas so it's not too hot. You order your food and they take it to you. It's also nice because you have a view of the bay. You also get to see Morro Rock. It's this huge rock surrounded by water. They also have a little live music going. Nothing too crazy. It was really cool! We went on a Friday at around 11-11:30am so it wasn't too busy but I can imagine the plane getting busy. We ordered their grilled garlic oysters, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, shrimp and chips, shrimp cocktail, clams and chips, and clam chowder. The grilled oysters were a table favorite. They were tender, flavorful, and generously portioned. The tacos were average but enjoyable with the tangy sauces. The shrimp and chips were boring. It consisted of six deep fried shrimps on a bed of mediocre french fries. The shrimps were not "de-stripped"--they still had the black strips down their spines... :( The shrimp cocktail was a cup of teeny shrimps drizzled in cocktail sauce. It was tasty but we were expecting normal-sized shrimps. Everyone laughed at the guy who ordered clams and chips because the dish was literally two kinds of french fries! The "clams" were tiny, skinny strips of deep fried batter and the clam meat was unnoticeable. Definitely expensive for what it is. I would give this place 2 stars if it weren't for its excellent clam chowder. It was very rich, creamy, and loaded with clams and potatoes. Which was ironic considering the actual clam dish had no clam meat. It was so thick that we scooped it up with forks. It was flavorful without being salty. This place is phenomenal! I sat at an outside table with my dog, Betty, and the hostess brought a bowl of water and dog treats along with the menu! Super friendly staff and AMAZING fish and chips!!! Ok, so maybe fish and chips sounds pretty mundane but this place raises it to an art form. The cod was perfectly fresh and flaky, the batter was light and flavorful, and the fries were skinny, hot, and salted. It does NOT get any better than that. read more

The skate was flaky and full of flavor, and the fish tacos had very generous amounts of fish (perfectly fried) with a delich tartar sauce mixture on top. We lucked out on beautiful weather (I was wearing a tank top in Feburary), there was a 2 person band playing cover songs. Btw, Tognazinni's dockside too, I had to send both the bread bowl clam chowder and the fries back, cuz' they were luke warm...Booo on you! Here is what I would recommend at Tognazinni, get the BBQ oysters, YUM! Skip the clam chowder and the fish n chips. Grab a couple of brewski's and listen to the live music on the weekend. You go up to the counter and order what you (usually a dozen of oysters!) and they'll call your name once it's ready. It has a really nice chill vibe with live music playing in the patio. I've seen some dogs here so I'm assuming they're dog friendly. You are by the pier and have an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and the giant Morro Rock. Last time we were here, I saw a sea otter just floating around and it's soo cute. Although I really love coming back here, I'm only giving it 4 stars cuz they don't have their own restroom. I am a local, long time customer and eat there very often. Their clam chowder is usually very good. Today we ordered two large size clam chowders & both bowls were barely warm & the chowder was lumpy & tasted like flour. We asked if they could heat our chowder up & we were told that they have no way of heating it & that's how it is. We've had their clam chowder many times and it wasn't served to us at room temperature. We asked for a refund & left to go get chowder else where. read more

I'd never tried bbq oysters, but I told my friend about awesome raw ones I'd had in New Orleans, and deep fried Japanese style "kaki fry" oysters--my friend admitted that she hates oysters, but can't miss the bbq ones here at Dockside. Best place for lunch!! Dockside - All indoor seating. Dockside 3 - Kind of awkward with random seating. Dockside Too - Justttt right with ocean side seating! HUGE, delicious, HUGE, cheap oysters!! Just recently, they increased their price to $1.75/oyster, just 25 cents more, which honestly isn't that big of a deal unless you order a lot. Ordered a half dozen BBQ oysters and half dozen raw oysters. I haven't stopped thinking about the BBQ oysters since I ate them.... sooo good with their buttery goodness!! The raw oysters were pretty good too and they come with a horseradish dipping sauce. Best calamari and chips I've had in a longgg time. They don't have that super greasy after taste. The fries stayed crisp and seasoned well the whole meal. Calamari tasted fresh and not tough at all, just melt in your mouth. Swordfish skewer was okayyy. It was my first time eating swordfish and although it wasn't terrible, it wasn't something super amazing that I would get again. Just four huge pieces of swordfish with red bell peppers, onions, and lemon wedges on a stick with some sauce. At least I can say I tried swordfish now =P Staff is really nice and I love that they give water in their big soda cups, not some small little sample cup like other restaurants. They have live performances here and there and it livens up the mood during lunch hours when the house is full! Total came out to about ~$40 for everything which is a little too pricey for what I would've imagined. But hey, next time we'll probably just opt for the oysters only =3 read more

Halibut and chips were a totally disappointment for $18.95. We had to wait over 30 minutes during non lunch hour and they over cooked the halibut. Beautiful fresh fish, cooked to rock hard dry biscuit. Too bad. BBQ oysters were ok but overrated for the price. Nice location with outdoors live music, just wish the food was better. Update: I just read from another yelper, that the fish is frozen, not fresh. I don't know if that's true but that would explain it. read more
