This creature of habit stepped out of her sushi comfort zone and was pleasantly surprised with how tasty Tokyo Cube is! Initially I had low expectations as our server seemed extremely stressed out (even though there was one other dining couple in the small restaurant next to a gas station off the 101)... But his attitude transformed after we ordered. I got a LOLLIPOP ROLL without crab salad (cause FAKE CRAB & MAYO = NO THANKS) or sauce, as well as a salmon Kama (they were out of yellowtail kama)... My Lollipop roll was DELICIOUS! Above and beyond what I expected, that's for sure! The cucumber to fish ratio was PERFECT! I could really taste the freshness and meatiness of the salmon and tuna... And the avocado lent an awesome creaminess! The salmon kama was fine, it was what I expected from a salmon kama, I just was really in the mood for a yellowtail kama so I was a little bummed by that, but oh well! My friend, who was the one who really wanted sushi, wound up getting chicken teriyaki (weirdo) and a California roll, and I do believe she was into it, so that's good! I have to say, I'm glad I broke out of my comfort zone to try a new sushi place because my Lollipop roll was REALLY GOOD, and I've had my fair share of low carb sushi rolls in my day! An interesting large menu that consists mostly of Japanese dishes. I tried the tom yum miso ramen with chicken karage. It had a nice kick that you'd expect from Thai soups but the thick ramen and hint of miso made for a nice fusion flavor. The chicken was pretty good size chunks of rib meat which was a nice compliment. The table shared a Lemon Roll which was doused pretty heavily in ponzu sauce and combined with the lemon peel made for a very citrusy punch. The outdoor patio was nicely shaded. read more

Not too many people know about this place because, as the name suggests, it's pretty much a tiny cube in the middle of a very busy intersection. I have been passing by this place for quite some time now, as it is on the way home for me. So when my sick friend (she had a cough!) asked if I wanted to go somewhere new, I immediately thought of this place! I made a reservation for two through OpenTable for 6:30 PM, since they have a happy hour from 5 to 7 PM. Though I got there right on time, they were pretty packed so I had to wait a few minutes before we can get a table inside. Although the patio looks absolutely cute adorable, it was pretty chilly for LA (I know, eye roll). Once inside, the menu is quite extensive. Rolls, sashimi, sushi galore! Everything you could ever want in a Japanese/Thai flair restaurant. Love the cute, local names like the "Lady Gaga" and the "Barham". As I mentioned, my friend was sick so what better way to kill all those germs than to order a hot bowl of spicy Tom Yum, and make use of that free bottle of sake from checking in on yelp! Not a bad little casual Japanese-fusion type place. I had the chirashi bowl - the fish was quite fresh and plentiful and the presentation was very nice. However, the rice was not sushi rice but instead basic steamed short grain - keep this in mind, it's more like a poke bowl in that way. I also had a bowl of miso soup, which was quite good as well. Service is friendly and prompt, and the ambience was casual and fun. Parking and getting in and out into traffic was a bit of a nightmare though. Price is not bad at all, about $15 for a chirashi bowl and a bit less for most other items (noodles, other poke bowls, sushi rolls, etc.) I'd come back if I had a hankering for this sort of thing in the neighborhood. read more

Wow. What a surprise prior to the Hollywood bowl concert. Best miso eggplant and agedashi tofu I've had outside of Japan. Big Buddha vegetarian roll also rocks. This is the only sushi place I want to eat from hands down! Definitely order the salmon sashimi, the fried rice spicy tuna, VIP Sashimi, and baked salmon roll. The salmon roll is not sweet like typical baked salmon rolls which is great! Sometimes sushi joints put too much sweet mayo stuff-but no problems here. The drinks like the Thai coffee (too much tart) and the Thai ice tea (too much sweet) were a miss in my book, but its minimal considering the beauty and taste of the sushi here. I came for a weekend trip to go to Universal Studios, and we went to Tokyo Cube for dinner because of the good reviews. It was a plus that it was a close walk from our hotel. Judging by the outside, it seemed a little sketchy, it is connected to a building that is also connected to a gas station and the whole thing just looks run down. We went inside and it was small but nice and clean and cute, and we were greeted right away. The menu seems to have a great selection! There's sushi, ramen, poke bowls, and some other cooked dishes. We ordered the appetizer Chicken Karaage, which was so delicious. It had a nice crunch on the outside and it was so tender. As for sushi, we ordered the Shine Bright Like A Diamond Roll(lol) and the Lollipop Roll, and an order of salmon nigiri. I am a sushi snob and I can tell you, the fish is fresh! The salmon was so divine and buttery like it should be. Both rolls were super tasty. The Lollipop roll was unexpectedly made without rice. It was held together by a thinly shaved slice of cucumber. I thought I would miss the rice on this roll, but it was great!! And healthier for you! I highly recommend this little restaurant. The people were super friendly, and quick service! I have downloaded yelp just to leave this review. I've ordered from Tokyo cube and most of every sushi place off of postmates. If you are a sushi-offishy-nado like I am. You know good sushi. Most of every sushi resturant in Hollywood are terrible, they lack the skills to roll tightly or their presentation is off. Lala sushi actually gave me bad tuna. Sugar fish is over priced and serves their raw sushi warm? Of all ways. Warm raw fish has got to be the worst. (In resurant they also serve it warm. And then over charge you for their boxes.) I'm telling you all this so you understand I have tried hundreds of sushi restaurants. Tokyo cube has never let me down. They've always given me fresh fish. They're presentation is on point. Their size proportions are always consistent. They're time of delivery always the same. I order from them lemon fish sashimi so it's important to have fresh ingredients. They've never forgotten something unless they had to refund it. Their packaging is tightly done nothing falls over. Tokyo cube is a nice little hole in the wall for some sushi. Keep in mind parking is limited if any at all. You can try parking on the streets, but be sure to read the signs very carefully. The food was good. Very flavorful and didn't take very long to get. The fish was pretty fresh. I ordered two rolls and the boyfriend got a poke bowl with miso soup. Delish! The waiter was very kind and attentive. Music was really nice and classy. The interior of the restaurant was clean. We ended our meal with a lava chocolate brownie. It was amazing! The spot of this place is kind of unique, tucked behind this gas station next to the 101. I found this place in an article I read online and thought I'd take some friends during happy hour and give it a try. Staff was friendly and drinks were cheap. The non-Happy Hour menu is a little inundated with options. I know it's a fusion place but the menu was cluttered and it was difficult navigating and deciding what to get. The sushi on the top left of the HH menu could have been more worth it; the salmon sushi came with two small pieces for $4. I split a black miso ramen with my friend and the taste of it was delicious... not too salty and a strong garlic flavor. However, the noodles weren't my favorite compared to what you'd typically get at other ramen shops. They were thick and the quality seemed cheap. In addition, we ordered a Hot Night roll and a Red Bull roll for the HH buy one get 50% deal. This might be me being picky but I don't like when my sushi is warm and I think the shrimp tempura piece was just cooked, which warmed up the roll. The heat kind of makes the crab and rice soggy from the steam that builds up in it. The Hot Night never came out. We were full so we didn't follow up on it but we did need to ask the servers to remove it from our check. Overall, a fusion restaurant to try if you want something different but it's not a place I would frequent. read more

It is a small restaurant but the decor is sweet and warm. I've tried their seafood stir fried udon and their salmon lover bowl, they both are great!
