Maybe this is a good place for trash sushi. Poor quality. You might as well get sushi from a super market. This place isn't cheap either. Took 45 mins to get an order "to go" and by the time we got home the bento box was cold and our sushi looked like it was dropped on the ground. The soup had no flavor and the teriyaki chicken wasn't even cut up all the way. I had a chewy piece of hamachi, don't know what in the world THAT was. The avocado in the rolls were brown and everything would fall apart when you tried to pick it up. If you THINK this is "good" sushi, then you'll be amazed by Kampai or Fuji. I didn't come here but my group of friends did. Guess they can't handle big groups, as they say they can't divide the tables nor can they serve them. Denied services. Seem like they pick and choose who they want to serve. Even if it's empty inside. If they don't like how you look, don't expect much. Go somewhere else more welcoming and want to be real restaurant. Not family friendly. Maybe it's the servers and not the business owner. Who knows. They missed a big tip. That's all I know. Haha. My togo order took a whole hour to be ready when the hostess in the front, which I believe her name is Hannah, who told me that it would only take 20 mins if I didn't order any sashimi or rolls, therefore I settled for a bento box: chicken teriyaki with tempura and sashimi and a beef bento box with sashimi and tempura. I told her I wanted salmon sashimi only so she told me that she wrote down "salmon only" on the computer. I came back 45 mins later because I read from previous reviews, this place takes forever to place orders and togo pick-ups. My order was still not ready. The same hostess, Hannah, went to check on my order, she told me that the chef had made a mistake on my order because she wrote down "salmon only" but did not did not specify what kind of salmon for the chef to make for my order. Therefore, the chef made salmon teriyaki, which I told the hostess that it was fine and I was willing to accept the salmon. The hostess replied that the chef already started on the chicken teriyaki and it's going to be a wait. I had to reiterate myself that I will accept the salmon teriyaki and they can just pack it so I can leave but she completely ignored me and just repeated herself like she didn't even hear a word I said. Then left to the back and didn't returned. The hostess, Hannah didn't even bring my food out. She has another waitress bring my order out. Overall, I waited a whole hour for my order. If I knew I was going to wait that long, then I would have ordered sashimi and some rolls. I am so disappointed in their lack of customer service and communication skills that don't even deserve one star. Even though I did give her my number to call me when my order was ready, she did not provide me that service. It could have been solved if the hostess had checked on my order after the 20 mins wait as she promised and my order could have been fixed and ready by the time I came back. When I got home, one of the order of the box was burnt on the bottom and leaking. I also received only one order of tempera, and the beef was mixed in with the rice and no one dressing was missing for the salad. I received the salmon instead of the teriyaki chicken but the salmon was BURNT! Never coming back again! Their services sucks and their food is not worth the wait. It'll suffice when Bonsai is closed. This was our second time here. I remembered the first time only vaguely until the salad came. The dressing does not taste like your usual miso sesami... It's more of a sweet peanut butter flavor. It could've used some rice vinegar and some salt. The rice was not seasoned, or at least did not taste like it. The salmon was super fresh and delicious, and our server was EXCELLENT. The rolls were a tad slow to come out as some of the other reviews have mentioned, but we've experienced this a lot in other sushi restaurants as well. After a wait that seemed like an eternity (despite talking to staff twice) we got the worst Japanese food we have had in years.

They get super busy for dinner but the good food compensates for it. My only issue is that the tempura sauce seemed watered down and the agedashi tofu didn't go well with the sauce too. But hey, the sushi were all good! Been here twice and try to go when we're in town! read more

Chirashi for $25. This restaurant is better than expected for the location, population, and last reviews regarding cleanliness. I didn't have any issues with cleanliness. The fish was actually better than I've had last time in LA. All the fishes were firm, tasty and without stringy bits. My only complaint with this order was that there was not enough rice. The rice was not sushi rice style and crumbled readily. After a while I gave up with the chopsticks and used the fork. The raw fish was on a bed of lettuce and cabbage. The egg was actually really good smooth not horribly sweet and a nice texture. They're online menu was more descriptive than their paper menu at the restaurant. read more

Don't understand at all why the mediocre reviews. This is a gem! Came in on a business trip, on the recommendation of the local hotel clerk. They were right. Tokyo garden has fantastic sushi! We started with the salmon poki, which was phenomenal. I'll say I was a little disappointed with the portion but then I was really hungry! In retrospect is say it's definitely in line with other good sushi restaurants. We moved on to the sashimi, and found the fish to be utterly delicious. Fantastic! The interior is nice, not a huge place but they have booths and tables that are good size. We ordered a teriyaki chicken bento box with tempura and gyoza, everything was hot and fresh..chicken was nice and not chewy. My hamachi nigiri was delish...I can always tell I have quality fish when I can cut it with chopsticks...just perfect. We ordered the trainwreck roll and that was also great...definitely would reccomend. Quail egg shooter was tasty too... All around good sushi place. Will be going back! read more

I feel this location deserves a roll by roll breakdown based on the three star review. Now I am choosing to give because I found no flaw, and amazing execution with every course of my meal. California Roll- this is what makes or breaks my reviews, if you fall to make a good California roll how can you make anything else of quality. I am always a little hesitant to go with places that server the chunk krabmeat as it is heavy and often too filling for a lighter roll, but with a nice creamy avocado , and Crispy celery I was surprised by the light and satisfying portion of this roll. Next, the Tempura Yam- surprised to find yams on the menu, but being a fan, opted to give this a try. Light and flakey tempura, with a sweet kick of the yams. This is a roll I would order again! And the coveted Hawaii Roll that I good reviews about- This is basically a California Roll with Masago on it, but the change in taste and texture was surprisingly good! Not the best Roll I have had, but a great way to wrap up the roll portion of this review. Nigiri time: Tako (Octopus) Unagi (Freshwater Eel) Dessert: Tempura Green Tea Ice cream- Oh yes oh yes the perfect way to end the meal. 10/10 I'll be back next time I'm in town! read more

We haven't had sushi in so long and wanted some. We ordered 5 different rolls. The Hawaiian roll was the best. All the rolls were good but we really enjoyed the rolls. Kids and I shared the rolls and my husband got the beef teriyaki. The food was really good. We ate it all. Customer service was also amazing. Our water was filled when empty and forks were given to us since we arnt really good with chopsticks. There were do many servers in this place. We wish we could give them a 5 star but we can not. This place was so dirty. We never come back to places that are this dirty. The doors are painted white but are mostly black. The floors and bathrooms are filthy. The kitchen has a small curtain but if you look through it you'll find it's dirty. read more

My husband and I went there for lunch we walked in just before noon, the hostess sat us down, few minutes later our waitress came over took our drinks. We thought oh how nice is not so crowded and we'll get to enjoy our lunch.....well too bad that wasn't what happened. We got our drinks and she took our orders , then we wait and wait and wait and wait, 45 minutes later we finally got our food. Rather than apologizing for the delay in service, our waitress seems to have attitude, when we told her that we were planning on leaving, she served is our lunch and gave us our checks at the same time......wow! Chicken teriyaki was cold, tempura cold, soup cold, but the salad had quarter cup of water in it. After asking 4X we were given chop sticks. I DID ask for the rest of my order, couldn't get it. No where does it say that you will get 4 of each kind it was 4 salmon and 4 tuna. The two specialty rolls that were picked by the chef were just the cheapest ones on the menu. Bouth were just rolls with fried shrimp inside and covered in different sauces. The rice was all different consistencies with every bite. Some held together, but others just fell apart. We went there 2 hours before closing at 9pm. It took a while to get our food because we're 6 persons who ordered, and I guess we waited about half an hour. I suggest that you plan a food that you wanted to order so that when you get there you'll be all set and less waiting time. Food is okay.
