I've been to Tokyo grill's other locations near by. This was my first time visiting this certain location. I was not greeted when I walked in she looked at me and asked what I wanted that was first. I then proceed to place my order Ordering the yellow tail sashimi as well as some other rolls. Upon finishing my order I was rudely interrupted by the woman who works in the front as she wanted to inform me of the process to make sushi and that their sushi and sashimi is RAW. Then proceeded to tell me that they don't cook their sushi. I found this statement to be very racist and condescending. Assuming that I lack knowledge in the process of sashimi or sushi. Good Sushi for a good price! I went in for my sushi fix and boy was it satisfied. I ordered three kinds: Spicy Shrimp, Crab, & California and they were delicious. This was my first visit. You seat yourself, then someone comes and take your order. The waitress/cashier was on the phone the entire time, but boy I must say she is a "master multi-tasker" haha. Hands down the best oyakodon I've ever had in my life, and I've been lucky enough to go to Japan twice. It was the first dish I ever ordered here and I've barely eaten anything else. Customer service here is just not great. I'm not sure if the woman who took my order was eating or chewing gum but I could barely understand her. When I arrived to pick up my food the phone would ring and she would be taking orders while intensely rolling her eyes. I ordered to-go because I've never had a good in-restaurant experience here. 5 stars for the food. The sashimi bento box and the tuna tataki were way above incredible. I loved the way the bento box was so well thought out and designed. The tataki was not only delicious, it was well presented. I also liked the fried rice. Like a lot. This is not a good place to escape the heat. The temperature was somewhere in the 80s. In this case, I don't think it's a temporary problem. Judging from the HVAC grilles in the ceiling, I just don't think they have enough cooling to overcome the heat load. I imagine what cool air they do have gets exhausted through that enormous vent hood. This will have to be a winter only stop for me. I spent $30 after tip for lunch for myself. The food was worth the price, but to be served paper napkins, plastic portion cups, a plastic fork, and a bento box that looks like a TV dinner tray, it felt like I was at Arby's. The two boys were adorable. The younger one stayed at his play table, while the older one helped customers. Service would have been non existent without his help, so it was he who I tipped. Hope momma's saving that for his college! I was impressed with how well disciplined he is and it's a huge contrast to the lack of discipline in most kids his age. It does sadden me to think that these children are stuck in a restaurant all day, every day. I hope that's not the case and that they are only part time workers. read more

Tokyo Grill exceeded my expectations! Prices were incredible. I ordered the Hurricane roll, spicy crawfish roll, cheese pockets (Crab Rangoon), and Miso soup. The Miso soup was so good I ended up drinking it from the bowl. The cheese pockets were the best I've ever had...and saying that actually makes me feel like a traitor to my favorite Downtown Memphis sushi place, but hey, when you get EIGHT huge tasty pockets for half the price I pay to get three small ones, sometimes loyalties change! The sushi was fabulous but I was so full from the soup and cheese pockets I ended up taking the majority of my sushi home with me! It's enough for three meals, no joke. Our waitress was adorable and very sweet. She was the only person working the dining room during a lunch rush and she never disappointed! She was on top of everything! She sent us away with hanging calendars to put in our offices. Overall, loved it. Simple as that. Oh, and my bill for all that food and another two rolls and bowl of soup for a friend was less than $30! read more

I definitely agree with some other Yelpers who said that the cream chees won tons are excellent. Perhaps the best I've ever had. Huge and enjoyable! The crunchy shrimp roll, however, was just so-so. I'm sure it lost some of it's luster as I had everything to go so by the time I got home, well, you know. EXCEPT... somehow, a ghost in my car on the way home ate 4 of those won tons! Damn ghost. I really like this place. The best Miso soup that I have ever had. The sushi rolls are pretty large, especially for your money. Everything I have tried, except the fried oysters (which were just heavy on batter), has been really good. They have Yum-Yum sauce! That sauce can make anything taste great...probably anything. I usually do take-out from here because the interior is pretty small and, at times, pretty loud. What is that next door?? A dance club? I swear the music from next door is going to knock the frames off of the wall some day. In my experience...if you call in an order, add about 10-15 minutes to the quoted time they give you. Maybe it's because I'm not from Memphis and have no idea what the sushi scene is like here, but this sushi tastes exactly like how much it costs--cheap. I got a tuna roll, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. The tuna was actually room temperature, they forgot the spice in my spicy tuna and the shrimp was over tempura-ed. To top it all off, they gave us soy sauce packets that you use on your rice and noodle dishes and not the specific soy sauce for sushi. The people here were also not friendly. I see other reviewers saying "well they aren't from here so it's fine." No it's not fine y'all. Two stars for being quick and not making me pay too much money for this underwhelming sushi. We stopped in for lunch and from the looks of it, Toyko Grill is a pretty popular place,. Memphis Finest eat here so it must be good. We have a little bit of everything and it was all good. Americans seem to think every Japanese resturant must be fancy and expensive. Thats not the way it is in Japan and you are lucky its not that way with this place. A nice unpretentious Japanese lunch spot that makes good food. And no.....the sushi fish does not need to be cold when surved...thats an American misconception. Just updating after several years since my last review. There's nothing to change. This place is still serving large portions of delicious food. Got a combo this time, chicken and shrimp with veggies and rice. So, so tasty! The mister and a friend got salmon and chicken, respectively, and said theirs was very good as well. Fresh, cheap, fast and good. They get 5 stars for this sort of magic. Consider the friendly employees and clean dining area and you have a place that defies the typical atmosphere found in the Berclair grunge zone which Tokyo Grill calls home. Tiny and a bit obscure, you will find it nested right beside the busy, "third worldish" Summer Ave. Aldi. Parking is rarely available in front of the door, but there is usually a spot within 100 feet, so grab a space and begin your short walk through the parking lot. (Heck, you might even improve on your espanol as you stroll). The hibachi vegetables are a relatively healthy meal and can be had for a mere $5.95. Comes with fried rice which is good, but probably the weakest part of the meal. The tempura menu options deliver crunchy bites of perfection and the flavor goes well with the bowl of clear or miso soup that comes with the entrée. I have only had the clear soup, but it seriously makes me wish for winter! Such a salty rich cup of wholesome goodness with mushrooms and onions, I think I would be happy eating a gallon of it (and nothing else) for lunch or dinner. The seaweed salad is crisp and delicious, providing a refreshing contrast to the other taste sensations. Still more items to try on future visits. (Sushi is not my thing, but friends tell me this place can compete with the best.) Wowzers! A Co-worker and I just had lunch here and were very impressed. I was actually looking at Yelp this morning for something new around my work area to try and saw a great review from Michele G. that pointed me to Tokyo Grill. Man, am I glad I saw that review! We started out with a very nice Crunchy Shrimp sushi roll and it was outstanding. Very tasty and very fresh. We both had the Chicken Hibachi. It comes with Fried Rice and Grilled Zucchini with onions and mushrooms. They were all well seasoned and very flavorful. We both commented several times through out the meal how much we were enjoying everything. Service was great, prompt and very friendly. I am so glad they opened this location near my house! It has proven to be great food and service at a very reasonable price. There are many fantastic dishes like the pine nut tuna that I highly recommend trying. (There are a couple secret winners! Can you find them?) This Tokyo Grill is family owned like all their locations. The father handles the chef duties with his daughter running the front of the house and I think they are off to a bang up start. My husband and I were in town on business and found this place through a Yelp review from a friend. I am a hardcore sushi lover. It's pretty much my favorite food. So rarely does a place do it well and is affordable but Tokyo Grill is one of those places. I ordered the 3 roll special and it was more than enough food to fill me up and then some. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the menu wasn't bogged down with nothing but deep fried mayo rolls - as is the latest trend in most sushi places. My husband had the scallop hibachi meal and loved it. I periodically picked at it and I concur that it was very tasty. The service was very good, very friendly. The place looks more like a Chinese takeout restaurant than a Japanese restaurant but don't let the lack of fancy ambience deter you. We will definitely come back when in town again. read more

I did not average the rating by this formula because comparably this restaurant beats other sushi restaurants in town by being less expensive and just as good, and more accessible. All of the sushi tastes good and seems to be of good quality. The only Chinese food I've had here was variations of the fried rice. It is a massive portion for $7-8.
