Unfortunately I am finding out that this place has closed. I have driven by the restaurant a few times in recent weeks and one of the last times I was by I saw a truck parked there and some workers were removing the lettering at the front and sides of the restaurant. I looked them up on Google this evening and it did say that the restaurant is now permanently closed. It was a great restaurant for Japanese cuisine while it lasted. I have frequented the place many times. Their hibachi steak and shrimp were the top items that I've ordered from them and their house fried rice was always good as a side dish for the meal. The dining room was a nice and inviting place to eat. I will sincerely miss this restaurant. read more

MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS, DO NOT GO! We had what we thought was the craziest experience here. However, after reading other reviews. This seems to be a common experience here. The waitresses started yelling at us in front of other customers that we needed to tip more. We gave more than 20% and they said that wasn't enough and started yelling at us and wouldn't let us leave the restaurant. Our bill was $190 and we gave $40 in cash. I honestly think the police might need to get involved here after reading all the other reviews, we felt accosted and it was just so inappropriate and wrong. Great food and very nice portions! The only thing I would recommend to customers is don't pour the sauce onto the actual plate used to eat the meat with if planning to take it home after the meal as the tray will leak, just dip the meat in the sauce at the table! I love watching the chefs using the hibachi and how creative they are with performing different trivks like spinning the utintials and cracking the eggs during the preparation! I honestly don't know why this place even bothers having servers, because ours might as well have been a cardboard cutout. The waiter Kevin, never checked on us -- not once -- unless we basically flagged him down like we were trying to get rescued off a deserted island. He didn't check on us. Didn't refill anything. Didn't even make eye contact. I think a houseplant would've been more attentive -- and it probably would've smelled better, too. Every time he walked by, we got hit with a full blast of Eau de "I Just Smoked Three Cigarettes in Four Minutes." The air was so thick I'm pretty sure we left with secondhand smoke mileage. And the best part? Watching him step outside to smoke, then stroll right back in like a nicotine-scented tornado with ZERO intention of washing his hands. Nothing quite says "bon appétit" like knowing your server's hands have been marinated in Marlboro residue. However, he finally paid attention to us when it came to the tip. He made it VERY clear he expected 20% for... whatever that was supposed to be. When he saw he wasn't getting rewarded for ignoring us, the vibe instantly turned icy. He practically hovered, clearly trying to rush us out so he could get back to his phone-and-cigarette rotation that seems to be his real job. We went to Tokyo Japanese Steak House as part of my niece's 13th birthday celebration. Her first (that she remembers) as well as many others who came tha tnight. The Hibachi chef did a great job of making it a festive occasion for her with just the right amount of birthday attention to she and her two friends. He was funny and got my sister's in-laws laughing. He brought all of the expected fanfare you expect at a hibachi restaurant. The onion volcano, the knife tricks. He didn't disappoint. The waitress who took our orders and brought our soups/salads/beverages was also wonderful. They made a great experience. This place was hopping with birthday celebrations and folks seemed to be enjoying themselves. Other strong points are that they are right next to the mall and so there is no lack of parking and you can make a fun day if you want without having to drive from place to place. That being said. The restaurant was freezing, despite the fact that they were playing with fire, and it was really uncomfortable. It was also really really dark which I didn't really enjoy. The bathrooms were a bit sad. And, finally, I've had a better hibachi for cheaper. =\ I think this restaurant gets a lot of customers because it's literally on the way out from the mall. So people see it on their way out and are curious about it. If you've never had hibachi and want to experience it - you'll have a good time here. My sister's family all seemed to enjoy the food more than my husband and I did. Maybe we've just gotten snooty? If I'm at the mall with someone who's never had hibachi and I'm not feeling poor, I'd eat here again. While Valentine's Day is quite a busy night, Tokyo in Braintree was really no busier than normal. Took the grandkids and there were 7 adults as well. Grandkids are picky eaters. Pretty much they only like the noddles and beef. We get there at 6 PM - had a table reserved in advance. Waited some time for them to take our drink orders and after they finally delivered the drinks they took our orders. The table next to us that was seated after us was served first. We waited a bit for them to get the chef to come to our table but he was engaging. They informed us NO NOODLES tonight. All out. Crazy and ridiculous at 6 PM on a Saturday night you don't have noodles. We adjusted. Granddaughter needed the bathroom. My niece took her to the bathroom. NO TOILET PAPER AND NO PAPER TOWELS. Told the maitre de. 40 minutes later still NO TOILET PAPER OR PAPER TOWELS. The food was MEH. The beef and chicken were cooked well and actually pretty tasty. All and all it was entertaining for the adults as well as kids, but I will think twice before I go and spend $800 on a meal that was really just MEH and at a place that really needs to step up it's game in general. The food was cooked how I asked ordering from the habachi menu. The chef did tricks and sake was squirter into each individual mouth which was fun. I had a martini which was good. The establishment looks the same way it did 10 years ago. I took my daughter to the first water feature and it appeared to be out of order with limited water in it. My family did habachi. About four mins after my meal was completed the waitor came around asking if I wanted a to go plate. This happened a total of three time. 3.5 stars* I was worried seeing all the recent one star reviews. My friends and I came here on a Sunday at 320pm. I made a reservation and it wasn't super busy given the time so we were sitted immediately. Everyone has to be present to sit. We did hibachi. When you walk in, there's an unfilled tank in the area before you get to the host stand that is smelly but it's just a pass thru. They should do something with that. Just not the best way to welcome patrons. We were seated by the window. It did not smell which I was worried about seeing the reviews about a cat smell. The waitress took our order immediately and brought us our drinks, soup, and salad. Standard hibachi starters. Tasted fine. The salad dressing was a bit watery though. Soup was good. We had a large group so we had two different chefs going at the same time. The other part of our group had a more entertaining chef. My chef was okay but not super funny or anything special. Don't forget to tip the chefs, I don't think the gratuity from check is shared with them. I had steak (medium) and chicken. Fried rice (extra charge) as noted on menu. It was good. Not the best I've had but good enough. They gave us the free shrimp as well with our order. My sister and I tried the angel roll. The strawberry sauce was weird and had that artificial strawberry taste. The roll would be better without that. Sushi portion was fine. Overall, service was good. Food was good. We were there at a non busy time so keep that in mind. They added an auto 18% gratuity on the check. They need to add that to the menu as there is nowhere where that is displayed. What's all this lambasting and hating on TJSH I see? This is my second five-star review of this place and I'm lovin' it! We had a group of eleven peeps on a Saturday night with rez for Hibachi. It was very organized and very well run as they escorted us to the grill area and immediately hooked us up with drinks and then took our orders and double-checked them by going around in a clockwise fashion and making eye-contact with each peep and verbally recapitulating individual orders. Then the fun began: The Hibachi dood came out and entered the cooking station in a dramatic manner with much enthusiasm and ruckus and supreme silliness. He was donning a cowboy get-up and played it up to the max. He let the Americanisms fly -singing and joking about American pop songs like, "Who Let the Dogs Out" and other pop-culture hits and parodying various American colloquialisms. I'm quite sure he holds a PhD. from a well-known clown school. He cooked with speed and skill while multitasking with his antics. The food was out of this world. It was nuclear hot and bursting with flavors and the aroma had us all on Cloud 9. The Fried Rice was incredible and the egg components were cooked amazingly. The Steak and Lobster were perfectly cooked. Bean sprouts and veggies were mental as well. Each peep also receives three "free" shrimp, again, perfectly cooked. The drinks were strong and even the Krab 'Goons were hot n' fresh AF. The servings were big and many peeps left with doggy bags. Some of the high points were the classic Flaming Onion Volcano which was wicked mega and the heat almost seared our eyebrows off -no joke. I'm actually quite surprised that OSHA permits this wildness but perhaps they get paid off somehow and/or lawyers have used legal rhetoric to deem this perfectly safe thusly enabling this pyrotechnic tomfoolery. Also, the tried-and-true Wet Willie always merits guffaws of laughter. Many more shenanigans and bonus surprises were performed and all too numerous to mention... Once seated and our drink order was served we told the waitress its very cold she said she would tell the manager..Time went by continued to be really cold she said she let the manager know. I asked for the manager twice he never came to the table. I asked for hot tea water was luke warm tea never steeped.. Eating with our heavy parkers on rice was ice cold the time the meat was done. Never been to this location but I've ate at Tokyo numerous times. Today we got sushi , California maki and Avocado maki. It was sooooo good ! The house fried rice was nice and hot and full of flavor. If I could give 0 star I would. The bill should've out to be less than $100. They had a price increase in certain items (broth $3 to $5) in the menu and it wasn't mentioned until we paid. The front house staff had the audacity to charge $20 for tips citing it was 18% gratuity. I don't know what kind of math they were doing. The hostess then slapped $2 bills on the table acting as if it was our fault. When we persisted, the hostess tried to turn this on us again acting like it was because we didn't want to pay tips. The waitress came to pick up the check and literally confronted us about not leaving tip. I clearly indicated that it was already included - she said it wasn't enough... I just had a very large gathering here for my husband's birthday and our experience was great. I made a reservation because we had over 20 people coming. When things got complicated with our party arriving, and some people arriving very late, the staff were so patient and so nice. The cooks were great and talented, it was very entertaining. The light above the hostes was covered in dust/filth. The fist tank is empty and still has dirty water. When we went the heat was on way to high and many people in my party were uncomfortable. The restaurant is cluttered with random extra junk in dinning areas. We were placed in a waiting area that looked more like a storage room for chairs. We had to sit next to an open bucket of cleaning water. The food was just ok and. Nothing special. The tepanaki chef we had did little interaction with the people at our station.
