A great place for a light lunch or quick meal that's fresh, light, yet satisfying and reasonably priced. Follows the increasingly popular fast-casual dining format. Easy to quickly identify your core protein and customize from there. I opted for a poke bowl with fresh greens and brown rice. Brown rice is usually kind of heavy and blah, but here it was light and had great texture to accompany the delicate poke. (Review for two recent visits to two locations.) We loved the restaurant and visited different locations frequently for many years. It changed hands, has a few wild swings, such as adding a French sandwich (?), and since then we haven't been quite as happy with meal quality and serving sizes. The salad meal is much smaller and less varied, fresh, and high quality. The serving bowls are in overused condition, used for all dishes hot and cold, and too small for a salad meant to be a full meal. The main salad for many years was a braised sushi tuna with more ample salad items, served in a large open bowl. On a couple of occasions I've been served the sliced steak hot bowl only to find it was mostly gristle. Cost and quality cutting, and reduced staff numbers doesn't work for what is meant to be more natural and fresh food, similar to actual Japanese food service practices. Also, some locations are better at clean-up than others, and that needs attention as well. It's such a shame to cut corners on one of the few opportunities to serve very healthy food at reasonable prices. read more

Been coming here off and on for the past year and the work staff are always attentive! My orders have always been fulfilled to what was requested and the food is always good. Nope. Not for me. This is essentially one of those fast food that is not heathy contrary to what they advertise. Who puts teriyaki sauce on top of the chicken on a Classic Ramen bowl? I don't know why this is common sense to make this and sell it to people? This dish if you haven't ordered it I say don't! It's broth is flavorless and is simply just an insult to be called a ramen bowl. At $7.75 for large made me mad. Water, noodle, a few greens and one hardboiled egg? After seeing Tokyo Joe's at almost every corner around these parts, I finally made my way in for lunch on a Monday. They were BUSY - apparently a very popular lunch spot. The line moved fairly fast though and my order came out within reasonable time. Poke, made-to-order sushi, Bento boxes, Salads, Bowls. Kind of the Japanese version of Panda Express. I ordered the Nikko Salad - chicken breast (or tofu), mixed greens, mandarin oranges, red pepper, avocado, almonds (I don't really recall biting into any), carrots, celery, and green onion with a very generous two plastic containers of their Nikko dressing already on the side without me even asking. The chicken slices were big just like the avocado - green and fresh. The mixed greens were also a good, vibrant color and everything tasted really good together especially with the dressing described as tangy, sweet onion vinaigrette. The portion was fairly small and the chicken was almost bordering on dry, but I really liked this salad and would not oppose getting it again. Quick and healthy. I've seen a couple of these restaurants around Colorado and I was intrigued by their healthy slogan. I came during early lunch hours and they were pretty busy which was promising. I came and asked the server what her favorite dish was and she replied that she always built her own bowl. I decided to build a noodle bowl with dark meat chicken, spicy sauce and five toppings (spinach, green onion, mushroom, carrot and onion). The noodles weren't as spicy as I would have liked but I enjoyed how soft the noodles were compared to most udon that I've tried. Udon is usually hard to scoop up because of their texture but these udon noodles were much more easy to bend and scoop up. The sauce was okay but tasted like the instant udon you buy at Costco. Next time I might try the curry sauce instead. read more

this review is not of the food at Tokyo joes, but the online ordering process. I entered tokyo joes with my zip code in search bar. it took me to a yelp page with all the pictures of food. I didn't notice yelp in top corner, I saw the choice on right side that said take out or delivery. I chose takeout so we could just order and pickup. Chose our food. went to check out. It showed $15 per dish. Then tax and total. I finished payment. Only then after paying it comes up saying Grub Hub is placing my order!?? What? So we called Tokyo Joes, confused as how grub hub was involved as we didn't provide a delivery address and selected take out. They seemed confused and advised that grub hub would not be delivering. When we looked at receipt at home, it broke out the charges. the dishes were actually 12 dollars and change each...total of $25.00. online as we ordered it showed cost per dish as about 15 per dish. It didn't indicate that the difference was the cost of food plus a grub hub fee even though they did no delivery! Further to the intentional misleading, the invoice states Grubhub Menu 6.30% while in fact it is actually being billed at $6.30...in fact a 25% additional charge! Be careful as perhaps occurring at other restaurant establishments. read more

I went here on a Saturday night not knowing what this place was all about. I've seen them all around the Denver area and wasn't sure if it was a Japanese food place or a Japanese coffee place (in my dreams right?) So we went and it was pretty dead for a Saturday night, we wanted something quick to replenish ourselves after a long trip at Ikea. They have sushi, noodle dishes, salad, etc. Usually when a place has sushi I need to not look any further at the menu but sadly nothing here appealed to me. I ended up getting some kind of rice dish and it was pretty meh. So meh that I can't even tell you what dish I got but it had noodles, veggies and tofu so I'm sure that helps right? I generally like Tokyo Joe's as a quick, reasonable, and fairly healthy option for food. This one is in a tight spot with several other popular lunch options so the parking is pretty packed and hectic with folks out on their lunch hour. Placed a to-go order that was ready when quoted for pick up and the process was easy. The staff seemed nice and the store pretty clean. Those are the reasons I didn't completely pan this place. As for the food on this visit...not so great. I usually like the bowls and haven't had an issue with that from the various TJ's I've eaten at. Today I branched out and tried one of their signature rolls from the sushi offering, which I have skipped mainly b/c I prefer sushi from a full out sushi restaurants. After this visit, I will go back to my normal sushi pattern and never eat sushi at TJs again. Presentation wise, the food looked great, but once I went to eat the Cali Tartare Roll it was a slightly different experience. First bite was ok, 2nd bite OK, but 3rd piece smelled HORRIBLE. For the life of me, I can't imagine why or how this sushi roll would SMELL LIKE CANNED CAT FOOD and I hope to God I am not sick after this. It is a really gross smell to encounter as you are about to bite into some sushi. I separated the pieces & 1/2 of them smelled like cat food. I literally had to throw it away in a trash can far away so not to be that gal with the stinky food in the office. I also got the Yo Roll which I have had before, and the first few pieces seemed fine, but I can't eat the rest from the canned cat food smell that is burned into my nose now from the other roll. We had the Mahi Mahi Bowl with lemongrass aioli, teriyaki, and brown rice for $8.75 and it was ok but really just not tasty enough. It's like cleaned up Asian food where people are trying to make it healthy. It wasn't exactly cheap either and not authentic really. Had the classic ramen with teriyaki and white chicken and still for $7.75 it just wasn't very good. We sampled the shrimp spring rolls which cost $5 and came with only 2 rolls...the wrap was stiff and it just didn't seem fresh. I won't be back. Making steps toward offering healthier items is what made me return to being a Joe's fan after a multiple year sabbatical. So, what are these new, health-conscious options I speak of? While they have always offered brown rice, they now have sweet potato as a carb/base option as well! They even let me do half brown rice, half sweet potato which was a perfect mixture of flavors and textures. The long list of sauces can be extensive, but they have a few that are sugar-free and still give off the classic teriyaki sweetness. The fact that I can come in here and grab a post-workout meal without bombing my progress is rad. On this particular visit, the staff was helpful and patient... something that is relatively crucial when you haven't visited in years. I love the location. as my daughter and I headed over after an appointment at our hair salon in the Park Meadows Mall area. We love Tokyo Joe's but this one needs a serious deep clean. The tables, countertops need to be wiped down and the floors Ned to be swept. I could see if it were like this later in the day. The restaurant is not busy at all as we're sitting here. I do fitness competitions and I asked if they could do the rice separate from the chicken and veggies and he was more than willing to ! Usually I go with the Salmon Poke bowl with add-ons of your choice and their Hawaiian sauce. This location is always clean and can get extremely busy during lunch rush. I have never had bad food at any Tokyo Joes. I have tried many of their rolls, bowls and salads. It's just quick food that's also healthier then some other choices. read more

While the people are friendly enough and the restaurant is clean, this place has some serious issues with to go orders. I drove there for lunch today, and order a bowl with peanut sauce which came out to 12 bucks. This is the second time I got all the way home to find there was absolutely no sauce whatsoever in this meal! I am not taking about them forgetting throw in a couple of packets soy sauce here, I mean they actually did not include any peanut sauce in the my peanut bowl! I just got Udon noodles, spinach, and tofu. When I called and spoke to them, they did not try to make it right- credit my meal, or have me speak to a manager, etc. Instead, he stated that I am welcome to drive all the way back there for peanut sauce. He apologize about it, but his voice was completely indifferent about it. Maybe they can't fix something like this on the phone, but I just wanted to state the reason they lost my business, and I was going there about 4-6 a month. Always good quality and good tasting. My current gripe is that they keep cutting the amount of vegetables that they put into the bowl. It used to be that they let you pick the top 4 or 5 vegetables and they would have a pretty good amount of each in there. Now, you are allowed 5 ounces of vegetables, no matter how many you choose. Is it just me, or should vegetables be the free stuff? Otherwise, the chicken is always tender, the sauces are great, and the portions are good. read more
