I always make my initial judgment about a Chinese restaurant on their hot-n-sour, and this place won the prize in the Glassboro/Washington Twp area, hands down. There are sushi spots popping up all over the area, but this Japanese-Chinese restaurant turns out to be the most reliable for good, fresh product. So I had quite an interesting experience with this place. I'm new in the area for work, here temporarily and was craving some Chinese food so I ventured out. It's kind of a unique mix, a place that does Japanese food (sushi) and Take-out Chinese food. I called in an order for dinner "combination" for general tso chicken with your standard pork fried rice and an egg roll which I substituted for an egg drop soup. I stopped by to pick it up, pulled into the parking lot expecting a hole-in-the-wall type of take out place, but was pretty surprised at how nice the restaurant was, it appeared to be more of one of those sit-in Chinese restaurants, not so much take-out. Decor was pretty nice and it's a place I'd probably consider bringing my wife! I'm from NYC, in comparison to what I've had before, I have to say the food is pretty good! It had a good balance between being too crunchy, saucy, and spicy. The fried rice was not overly oily, complemented the entree very well! The egg drop soup was delicious as well! So the interesting experience part, I gave my credit card, he swiped it and I walked out. I get a phone call about 10 minutes later asking to please come back that my card didn't go through. I was already on the highway and on my way back home, so I told him I couldn't go back, but promised him to return the following day for lunch. The following day, returned for lunch and they had half off sushi on Wednesdays to which I think the menu had a good variety of different types of rolls/maki. Well I'm a long time customer here and on 12/9/2019 me and my family went to dinner and when the food came out I found a black air in our food . .he tried to say it was my daughter's hair but she never touch the plate.he the said there is no one in the kitchen with long hair.then a lady with long hair came out of kitchen sad to say something like that. then he quote I took it off the bill.they did not.still charged me for the meal and a salad that I did not order.they are not nice and very rude.will never go back read more

Bro this place is not it. It costed $45 for chicken and broccoli, general tsos and vegetable lomein and guess what. 2/3 of those entrees were TERRIBLE. I'm sorry but like really bad. The general tsos chicken was soft and when cut open it was just white fluffy substance and not really chicken at all. The chicken and broccoli was extremely rubbery resembling raw chicken. I'm probably one of the pickiest eaters in all of south jersey and swore to never eat chinese again after an incident in my younger years, but strangely found the urge one day and ordered from this place and, WOW was my mind changed. Granted, I like the more plain menu items (steamed chicken w/ mixed veggies is my favorite) and it was sooo fresh and was full of flavor - especially the veggies. tokyo mandarin brought a newfound confidence in asian food. it also wasn't until recently that my gf presuaded me to finally try sushi (I'm not a fan of seafood whatsoever) and tried a roll from here as a second occasion and it didn't disappoint - again, very fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend this place for asian cuisine if you're anywhere near glassboro area. def a must. read more

I came in here with a client to scope potential rehearsal dinner venues. This place wins. Hands down. The restaurant and bathroom are spotless and either recently renovated or just very well kept. They automatically brought out homemade fried noodles with a delicious duck sauce. Yumm. Also, the hot tea they offered right away was on point! My bride had chicken with cashews and brown rice from the lunch special section. It came with soup too. She had wonton and said it was very flavorful. I had their pad thai and it was exactly what I needed it to be. The shrimp were clean, the presentation was beautiful, the flavor was better than expected. I should have asked for it to be spicy, which was presented as an option, but I still devoured it. Mine came with soup and rice, but I declined the rice since it was a noodle dish. The egg drop wonton soup that came with it was one of the best I ever had. Great service too! All that, including tip, we spent $21. Not bad. If I lived closer, I'd be eating here all. the. time! This is a real shame, over last 8 weeks I have picked up food to go. Once I did not check to make sure it was right. My fault I should have checked again to make sure they actually put everything in the bag. My issue is the complete lack of care or concern around the customer experience. I work very hard for the money I earn and for this restaurant to minimize my concern and to have no empathy is sad. Two tables in the restaurant and I was the only pick up shows a lack of concern. I was nervous about eating here. Any restaurant with so many different foods in the name worry me. How could they possibly do all of those things well? Turns out they really can! Not only are the prices beyond fair, the food is outstanding. Hands down the best General Tso's chicken I've ever had in my life. The sushi was fantastic too! Maybe we were there on a bad day because the service was very slow, short staffed it seemed. We were waiting forever just to get waited on which was frustrating when you're hungry. By the time we got our food (almost 30+ mins) we just wanted to eat and leave. I suggested this to my family because of the reviews here on Yelp and my brother has been here before to add to the positive comments but for me, my first impressions of it (service-wise) weren't too good. The food, on the other hand, was good and I would probably give it another go because of it. I got the chicken pad Thai. My parents also ordered from the big bowl menu and my brother got the chicken Katsu which was yummy. The prices were very reasonable, about $44 for all of us. Came in for the half price sushi deal and I must admit, it's a fantastic deal. Unfortunately the food isn't much to write home about. The miso soup was watered down and the service was rather unattentive -- we waited quite a long time to have water refilled and my iced tea was never refilled during the whole meal. The sushi is decent, but nothing special, still very likely on par with what you're paying at this restaurant. They have half off sushi on Wednesday's, which is amazing and makes my sushi cravings way more cost effective. The only thing about the half off sushi on Wednesday's is that you can only have half off if you eat in the restaurant, and you can't take any left overs home. The sushi itself is very good here. I usually get the shrimp tempura and the eel avocado. They also have very good Chinese food here. The service is very good, and the decor is also very nice. Well, will always be visiting Rowan attending daughter on Wednesdays - because sushi is half priced and this is a gem of a restaurant - clean, perfect service and beyond polite. I had the chicken satay - a meal in itself, tuna and avocado roll and salad. Salad was basic iceberg with LOTS of ginger dressing (on the side next time for me) and carrots. Husband had an udon bowl of soup - more like a vat with excellent broth, noodles and shrimp. Just spicy enough and we were sad we couldn't take the remainder home. Daughter had her excellent futomaki and California rolls. Have had the Bento boxes at lunch - excellent value and again with the same great service. Only wish they were close to where I lived! My previous review is for the location before the fire. After they rebuilt it's been nothing but disappointment. First disappointment, the size. The place is so cramped now, so all the tables are too close together. When it is crowded you are way too close to other people to enjoy yourself. Privacy? What's that? Doesn't exist here when there's a lot of people. Second disappointment, staff change. Everyone who used to work here, save for 1 person, no longer works here anymore. Apparently it's owned by a completely different group of people now. My third disappointment below proves this as it is a policy change to how their specials work. Typically happens with new ownership. Third disappointment, Price and Specials. Wednesday all you can eat sushi? Gone. Replaced with 50% off sushi on Wednesdays. Now that might seem like a good deal, until you realize that they jacked up the prices of all their sushi alongside the deal. I have a menu that had their prices before the fire, all the rolls are at least $1 more if not higher. So they do 50% off but it's on rolls that used to cost way less. So in the end you're really only getting about 25% off if you consider what they used to charge for the same product, and this isn't from inflation either because their prices are expensive compared to every other sushi restaurant in the area (trust me, i've shopped around after the changed their sushi special). They really jacked up their prices! $6.50 for ONE spicy tuna roll. That's outrageous. Compare that to Tomo down the street who charges $4.50 for the same roll. It's just not a good value. This is a tactic a lot of stores use and it seems Tokyo Mandarin is employing the same tactic. Add a special price but jack up the base price and it looks like a better deal than it actually is. Now don't get me wrong, this deal has a niche. It's still going to be about 25% cheaper than what you would've paid for their old prices if you were paying full price (not getting any kind of special) But the thing is, this deal is NOT for those who have an appetite. This is for people who are content to eating just 4 or 5 rolls and calling it a day. That is not me. I am not that kind of person. This deal is not good for me. I am the kind of person who typically eats upwards of $60+ worth of Sushi and that's at prices that are lower than Tokyo Mandarins. I go to Tomo and I easily exceed $60 worth. If I were to order the same amount of rolls as I normally do at Tomo, but at Tokyo Mandarin, I'd be spending around $80+ So instead of paying what I used to pay at Tokyo Mandarin when they had all you could eat for $23 I would end up spending $80+ and then cut that in half because of 50% off and I am left with a bill of $40+ for the same amount of food that I used to eat from this place. Almost double the price that I used to pay when they had their old $23 all you can eat special. Just not a value for those of us who have an appetite. You individuals who are happy with just eating a few rolls? You all are fine. You're good. You can come here and get value. But for anyone who eats more than like 8 rolls? Not a great spot to consider. Find an all you can eat location. Personally I've taken a liking to Tomo down the street. They have a better selection and it's all you can eat instead of just 50% off. read more

The food is good but the people working there are kind of rude. My sushi came to $10.15, so I paid $10.20. I always assess the tip when I get my food. She kept the extra 5 cents without offering it back. That ended up being the tip because the whole time I waited they made me feel in the way. read more
