This is the best Japanese hotpot restaurant in Oklahoma. I've been here a few times already and have not been disappointed once. I've tried every meat dishes on the menu except the Kobe steak which is seasonal and they were not available every single time I was there. It's quite drive from OKC to Stillwater but it's so worth it. I would recommend getting the beef. That's their best meat option. If this is your first time there, usually the owner will come by and show you the appropriate way to eat it. You just got to let them know you're a first-timer. Besides the distance, one other major complaint that I have is their operation hours: 6pm-9pm I believe which is not a lot of time. If they open one down here, I would be their first customer. Are you freaking kidding me? This place is astounding. We gladly make the hour-and-a-half drive from Oklahoma City for their food. My wife and I usually order two small portions of the rib eye and both the sweet and savory broths. Be a pro and also ask for the raw egg to go along with the meat. Thank me later for the buttery tasting goodness. Every time we've been there one of the owners always makes it to our table for a quick conversation. To begin, GO EAT HERE NOW! If you're reading this review, just decide on this place-you will NOT be disappointed. The service was immediately welcoming and fun from the moment I walked in the door (don't worry about the walk in, it really is there, it's a tiny looking entrance around the corner from the main strip). The entire staff was helpful, easy to talk to, and eager to show you fun ways to try the sauces and meats! The selections are not overwhelming (7 or so choices of entree meats) that come with rice and veggies:). So again, a great and simple meal but HUGE in taste. The atmosphere is also so calming and feels so personal, even with tables full next to you (trust me- I ate alone since I was in town for work). Space here is tight, yes, so don't expect a grand and spacious venue. JUST DON'T. (You CAN expect a fun and quirky bit of ambience, though.) This is a wonderful little locally owned restaurant that is well worth every penny you spend here -- without fail. Is it expensive? No, the prices are unbelievably reasonable -- especially for the quality of food you get in a town not really known for, uh, culinary delights. (Let's face it: MOST STILLWATER EATERIES REALLY AREN'T THAT GOOD. It's just a fact. It's great to see this sparkling little gem for the definite exception it is.) I took my entire staff here for a meal of shabu-shabu, and each and every one of them had a freakin' BALL. (They still ask, "When are we going back to Stillwater for Japanese food at that little tiny joint downtown?" Seriously.) The dessert options at Tokyo Pot are limited but tasty. (But who the hell even THINKS about dessert as a priority when dining at a good Japanese joint? C'mon, people. Let's be honest here.) So here I was a few days ago trying to think of a place to take my wife for our anniversary. We've eaten just about everywhere along the main streets of Stillwater, and we had already resigned to the idea of leaving town for our big date. I went to Yelp for some ideas and ran across Tokyo Pot - which until then I didn't even know existed. I thought I'd give it a try. It's definitely a hole in the wall type of place. We drove by it a couple of times before the art on the exterior wall caught our attention. We arrived just as the place opened, which was fortunate because we didn't have a reservation and it filled up very quickly. Our waitress was very friendly, patient, and helpful through our first hot pot experience. She explained the whole process to us and helped us with our order. When our food arrived - which was a pretty substantial amount of food - our waitress walked us through how to cook our food. She checked back with us often to adjust the temperature on our pot and to keep us full of rice. She was very attentive, and made our experience so much better. The food was amazing! We got the mongolian broth with the prime rib and seafood plates. There was more than enough meat, vegetables, and rice to fill us up. All the food was absolutely delicious. There was enough food to experiment with different cooking times and flavors. Overall, it was by far the best dining experience I've had in a long time. I would definitely recommend Tokyo Pot to anyone looking for something 'different'. read more

Delicious food! Went on a double date here last night and we loved it. For those of you who know Japanese food, they do a mix at this place of Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki. The atmosphere really reminded me of restaurants in Japan. As soon as you step in, you become engulfed by incredible smells that only make you hungrier! I had the prime rib and it was so good. My local Stillwater friends took us here before an OSU game. It is fantastic! It was my first time trying shabu shabu and I loved it. I ordered the lamb and everyone else had the prime ribeye. The meat was tender and the broth was flavorful. It was dark inside with lots of lights strung up to make for an intimate feel. I wish we had a place like this in Tulsa but I will be sure to make the trip to Stillwater again just to eat here once more. read more

This may have been the absolute best experience at any restaurant I have ever had. It has been nearly two weeks since my visit and my mouth still waters every time I think of the delicious pot of boiling broth bubbling at our table like a witch's brew of flavor. Let me start by a quick description of what to expect. It was my girlfriend and my two year anniversary, so I turned to Yelp for ideas about our night out. I found Tokyo Pot. I had no idea what to expect; as far as I knew, we were going to a simple Japanese steak house. However, when we got there, I was confused as to why a hot plate and metal pot was sitting at our table. The way this fine eatery works is you order a protein (I got the salmon and shrimp, my girlfriend got the lamb), and it is brought to you raw alongside a plate full of raw veggies, a bowl of white rice, and a bowl of beaten raw egg. You then prepare your own food by cooking your meat in the boiling broth. Each piece of meat takes around 5-15 seconds to cook fully. Nervous about this whole affair? Think the entire point of going out to eat is to make sure you don't burn down your home, so why would you go out to do it? Have no fear! The owner, Dean, will know it is your first time. Don't ask how, he will sense it when you walk through the door. Dean will make sure you get the most out of your meal. He will even make fantastic suggestions along the way, such as "order a side of pork belly. I know it isn't on the menu just do it" or "order the cold salad. I just made it for today". If I were to have a last meal, it would definitely be at Tokyo Pot. My best friend turned me to this place last year & we've been driving all the way from OKC ever since. Dean, (the owner) always greets us with a smile and asks how we're doing & what's new. The setup is perfect for a group of friends, and the food is just fantastic. My go-to item is always a large prime rib plate with a side of thai chili sauce. My friends and I usually get a mixed broth so it's kind of sweet/savory at the same time and the rice that they bring out is never-ending. My advice: wear yoga pants (because you will thank me later) and make sure whatever you're wearing doesn't need to be dry-cleaned, because the scent of the delicious food will seep into your threads and pores and follow you wherever you go until you shower. read more

I actually really liked this place ! Some good points are the food seemed very fresh. The meat was wonderful and all the flavors mixed well. Our waitress was so helpful and seemed very happy to be there. It was a fun experience. Some bad points are this isn't really a place I would bring a small child. I also wish the seats were taller ?? Idk I'm 5,3 but the table came up to my chest it seems. It's hard to cook food when you can't see it hah. I also don't like that you can't share food. It's not a buffet so I don't understand why you can't share an entree without extra charges. I get the vegetables are refilled without charge (who goes to a hot pot for veggies anyway ) but you only get one side of meat and it's expensive... So since I figured if I have to pay to share I might as well just order my own side of meat. It was so delicious. I'm glad I got my own entree because I would have eaten his share and mine. read more

My favorite thing about Tokyo Pot is that it's truly unlike anything else you'll find in Stillwater. As it's a typical college town, there are not a lot of options for unique and/or fine dining, but Tokyo Pot is an exception. The concept is different from anywhere I've been in Oklahoma, and it makes for a perfect date night spot! You choose your protein and your broth (one or two depending on table size) and also get a side of veggies and rice with egg wash - which sounds weird, right? Ask your server for the egg/rice trick. Take a spoonful of rice, dip it in the egg and then dip in the broth for a few seconds to let the egg cook. It adds a creamy texture to the rice, plus the flavor from the broth. I could probably eat several bowls of this and do without the protein, honestly. The prime rib is probably my favorite meat option, but I recently got the salmon and enjoyed that as well. We got a spicy and a savory broth. I preferred the spicy but both were great. It really just depends on your preference of spicy food or not. If you're looking for a cool place to eat in Stillwater with friends or a date, Tokyo Pot is your spot. It's a bit off the beaten path and looks like a hole in the wall, but you should have a great time and great food! read more

Best restaurant in Oklahoma without a doubt. If you don't enjoy this place you need a taste-bud transplant. We drive form Tulsa just to eat here. We walked in without a reservation, and were immediately chided (all in jest, but we're making a reservation next time). Dean sat us and walked us through ordering. We left it all up to him and wound up with an amazing spread of ribeye, pork belly, gulf shrimp, and red snapper. He also took the time to walk us through preparing our food. This was an amazing experience and rivaled any restaurant we've been to on either coast - most recently from the Bay Area. Seriously, Tokyo Pot made out first shaba shabu experience great. This place is delicious and by far my favorite restaurant in Stillwater. The Mongolian broth is the best I've had yet. The service is exceptional and the owner greets you like family. My favorite thing to order is the ribeye which includes rice, egg wash, mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, and tofu. If you have not tried shabu shabu then you are missing out. Probably the only true Hot Pot place you'll find in Stillwater. It isn't the best that I have had, but I've always walked away satisfied. Nice setting for date nights. It is a little bit on the dark side. Funky eclectic decor. The meats were sliced perfectly thin, vegetable plate was abundant. The broth however was a little bit on the sweet side, even though I picked the spicy one. One of the best restaurants in Stillwater! Unique, cozy, and incredibly tasty. The food is A+ (try the spicy broth!) and the service is excellent. The vibe is chill and the prices are very reasonable. It's a small place so you want to make a reservation, especially on the weekends. My wife and I visited Tokyo Pot last night after she raved about the food from her last visit. As I am not a fan of Thai Cafe, I was not sure I would like this place, but overall, found the experience to be enjoyable. We ordered one appetizer of sea scallops and two large orders of the ribeye, which all are served raw along with a tray of vegetables and rice. The servers were very helpful with showing us how to cook our food in the shabu pots. The ribeye was excellent, thinly shaved, and very flavorful. I also enjoyed the scallops as well. The vegetables were just okay, in my opinion -- the mushrooms seemed to be very rubbery and the tofu was ,well, tofu -- bland and unsatisfying at best. I would have given this experience more than three stars had it not been for our experience with the owner of the restaurant. He was making his rounds, pinpointing mainly the tables of unaccompanied college girls, trying his best to act entertaining. When he came to our table, he emphatically insisted that we try an egg cooked in our broth with some of his "special spices." Reluctantly, we agreed, although we were already very full. He brought the egg out, added it to the broth, added the spices (which were extremely hot), and served the soup concoction to us. When we received our bill, we discovered that the man CHARGED US $1.00 for the egg that he adamantly insisted that we try in the first place! I realize it was just a dollar, but the principle of the matter felt deceiving to me. So, if you go, avoid the owner if you can, but enjoy the food. Total cost for two was around $60 after tip. Service was just okay following the demonstration - my drink was only refilled when the our food was presented and was never checked again. I do plan to go back and try this place again in the future. I still prefer Kyoto when I am in the mood for asian food in Stillwater, though! read more

We ordered half spicy and half regular. The sauce is quite good. The veggie comes with each order but the waitress did not inform us so we ordered same bigger veggie plate. Really good hotpot for Stillwater. When you enter, you get to choose the broth, which can either be savory and sweet, or spicy. Next, you can order meats which come with vegetables. I personally prefer the savory and sweet broth over the spicy because of the flavor. Each meal also comes with an egg dipping sauce, rice, and some other sauces. The way to do it is to cook your meat in the soup, dip it in the egg, and then dip it into some sauce. It makes the food really creamy because of the egg. The best part about this place is the owner who stops by every single table to check on everyone. He also emphasizes the spicy sauce which is super tasty (but also very very spicy). The only unfortunate part is that the food is a bit pricey. I've had cheaper and more authentic hot pots elsewhere, but for Oklahoma, this is definitely one of the best! read more

The Tokyo Pot is Stillwater's only Shabu style restaraunt. The atmosphere was good except being up against the outside wall, it was rather chilly. The staff is friendly, and if you don't know how to eat Shabu, they will be glad to take you through it. In Shabu style, basically, you cook your own food in a pot at your table.
