I arrived closer to closing on a Saturday night and they were able to accommodate me, which I really appreciated. There was only one sushi chef so it took a little bit longer than expected but I didn't mind. The sushi was fresh with quite unique flavors. Overall, the waiter was super sweet and welcoming. Most of all, I appreciated the hospitality.

This spot is definitely authentic. It is owned by a Japanese couple and they are the only 2 working there. So even though there were only 2 tables, there was quite a long wait for the food. I would rate it a 3 stars, but I value authenticity and fish quality so I bumped it up to 4. This is a small restaurant in a plaza. There's only a few tables and it's reservation only. The prices are quite high for such a humble place. But I understand it as it's just 2 staff and few tables. I like the sushi sets that come with rolls and nigiri. I just have a hard time with comparison because I did go to Japan earlier this year and had great sushi for incredibly cheap prices. I did enjoy the sushi here. But it's just hard for me to recommend it highly because there are other sushi spots I like more and I have experienced sushi in Japan recently. The fish is good quality and I love to support small family owned businesses. This spot is exactly that. So if you are looking for that, then make a reservation here and try it for yourself. I do have one complaint though that a piece of avocado I was served had a big brown rotten spot. I just ate around it but it was a bit off-putting. The fish selection for the nigiri set was also a bit basic. Mostly salmon/tuna/hamachi. I still did enjoy the sushi. There are just places I enjoy more!

I read through very positive reviews of this Japanese restaurant online and was determined to try it. As other reviewers suggested, we called ahead of time, arrived on time, and were seated right away. The restaurant is run by an elderly Japanese couple and offers a traditional menu- so expect that style of service. The assorted tempura was decent and the nigiri set was good. But the whole restaurant experience was off. It was incredibly hot and stuffy with no AC running. It was also eerily quiet as we were the only guests with no background music playing in the small venue, so it wasn't comfortable to chat over dinner. Overall, the sushi was decent, but I would recommend other sushi spots in the area instead. But if I ever do go back, I would be eyeing the chirashi.

My husband and I tried Tokyo Shokudo as our date night and we were so happy we did! The restaurant is reservation only because the staff is only two people--a husband and wife who are very dedicated to their craft. I often look for Japanese-owned Japanese restaurants and it's tough to find one, this is the real deal. The wife was so pleasant and charming while taking our order, the restaurant was recently cleaned (and still smelled somewhat of cleanser, which didn't bother me but may bother some). The food was prepared quickly when we ordered and they served it accordingly. My Chirashi was great, quality cuts of fish over a nicely seasoned bed of rice. The skewers we ordered were delicious and I highly recommend the pork with the squeeze of lemon. My husband ordered rolls but, I wouldn't get those again--they were standard fare. Go with something more adventurous, and don't be like my husband. :) I will definitely return on a night when we're able to enjoy some hot sake!

Small gem in Duluth. The Japanese owner couple running the place is very friendly. Great quality of fish and the sushi is like what you expect in Japan. Clean and quiet.

Tokyo Shokudo is the best Japanese restaurant in Atlanta! I recently visited Japan, and discovered Tokyo Shokudo when I returned home. The quality of the food at Tokyo Shokudo is as excellent as quality of the food in Japan!!! Save yourself a plane ticket and go straight to Tokyo Shokudo! Adding to the charm, the entire restaurant is run by a lovely Japanese couple who give you the feeling that they are welcoming you into their home for an authentic Japanese meal! (Remember to make reservations since they do not take walk-ins.)

Reservations Only. We went on a Sunday night. It was just an old Japanese couple working so service was a little slow. We were one of 3 tables and ordered the $7 fried oysters, $23 10 piece sushi dinner, the $30 premium 10 piece sushi dinner, and $22 beef bento box. My bf ordered a beer too. All the meals were great value. Quality was great overall but I've had better raw salmon. They put wasabi on the nigiri too. My sister and I weren't that hungry so we had leftovers to take home. My only complaint was they overdid the dressing for the salads. They were way too salty.

Service can be a bit slow but there is only one chef and one server and I think they are the owners. They are Japanese and the authenticity shows in how simple and fresh their sushi is. I'm all for crazy extravagant fusion or hip sushi every now and then but honestly fresh fish just hits the spot. This place is very small with limited seating. I've only ordered pickup and to go. I've gotten both types of chirashi. I like how the sushi rice isn't too sweet and the miso is good and tasty and hot!! I've been wanting to try the uni but haven't gotten a chance to yet. I'll order it next time they have it.

They are only allowing reservations and take out currently. This is a small restaurant with 4 social distancing tables. They even have plexiglass dividing the tables. We were greeted and handed dinner menus and also a sushi menu. We ordered a variety of everything from the menu including a sushi box, rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll, shiitake skewers and salmon dinner. There's only one sushi chef and one server, so it did take a while for our food to come out. The dinners came with miso soup and house salad. The soup was piping hot and flavorful. The salad portion was small, but greens were fresh and the ginger dressing was good! The sushi and rolls were delicious. The salmon was also wonderful. We enjoyed everything and our server was super sweet. We will definitely be back! (We were so hungry and ate all the food before I remember to take a picture).

A hidden gem, small mom and pop store with extremely high quality sushi for the price. We got a matsu dinner set (pine set) of nigiri and 1 tuna roll for $35. The pieces were huge and every piece was fresh and delicious. We also got some really premium pieces, guess we got lucky! We also got the fried chicken and octopus wasabi apps. The fried chicken was ok, the octopus looked like snot but was actually really crunchy and good so give it a try, don't be put off by the look. Apparently the sushi chef buys whole tunas and breaks them down himself, either way all their tuna nigiris and rolls were really good. There's only the two owners working so service is a little slow but we finished dinner in an hour so not that slow. All the sushi we got already had wasabi added so if can't handle wasabi or don't like it ask them to leave it out!

Authentic Japanese restaurant!!! Most sushi restaurants around ATL are Korean or Chinese owned, but this cute Japanese couple run this hidden gem all by themselves. Pls go support this mom n pop shop; they're the sweetest. Since it's only the husband and wife working, it's very important to make a reservation beforehand so they can serve you in a timely manner.

Omakase was AMAZING. Came with uni and toro!!!! What world are we living in right now!! It was like a totally different sushi experience. I've always been mildly unimpressed with regular tuna, but their tuna changed me. Every piece of sashimi melted in my mouth. And it was great with the warm sake. Everyone was so impressed. We will definitely be back. Can't wait!!

I learned about the place from Instagram - not sure if they still have the $10 lunch specials but that was the lure that got us to check it out. They are located in the same shopping as the Medlock Regal Cinema. CHICKEN KARAAGE COMBO - $10 The karaage was good. Came w/ a mayo-like sauce for dipping. Cabbage salad served as a starter - learned later that you can opt for the potato salad instead which we'll try next time. Combo also came w/ a miso soup which was delicious ... one of the best miso soups I've had! MINCED KATSU COMBO - $10 This was the highlight dish for sure. The katsu coating was perfection, and the pork inside was not at all what I expected ... it was minced and interesting tasting ... we loved it! Served w/ two sauces, and pickles. Also came w/ the cabbage salad as a starter, and the miso soup. Next time I'd like to try the Croquette Combo w/ the potato salad - and eventually try all their dishes. The menu looked really good!

I will say i liked the chicken thigh katsu more. It didn't feel too tiring when eating it. Compared to the pork katsu but that's just my preference. Both dishes were about $19-20 a plate and it came with the choice of a cabbage salad or potato salad. We tried both and I liked the potato salad more. The sauce one the cabbage salad was a sesame dressing it was on the creamer side. On the table you're served with matcha salt, Japanese chili oil, and a spicy seasoning for curry. I would definitely recommend trying the matcha salt as well as the curry seasoning if you want a small kick!! The service was great! They checked on you regularly and there's also a button to call for service. And all the workers (even the ones in the kitchen) greet you when you walk in! Inside had tables and booths. The booths definitely felt more secluded! Overall the food was delicious and definitely filling. I'll be back but this is a once and awhile spot for me!

Outstanding ramen, incredible fresh noodles, and excellent service from Aaliyah…read more Okiboru Ramen Takumen in Duluth was absolutely worth the visit, and honestly, I'm just mad at myself for not trying it sooner. I started with the Okiboru buns (chicken and pork) the crispy gyoza, and the garlic nori fries. All three were a great start to the meal. The buns were soft and fluffy, and the pork bun worked really well with the garlic aioli, soy glaze, and pickled cucumber. The chicken one was good too but the pork one beats it on flavor. The gyoza had a nice crisp to them and came with a shoyu dipping sauce that tied everything together well. The garlic nori fries were also really good, crispy and well seasoned, and a fun side to snack on between everything else along with the garlic sauce to dip your fries in. For my main dish, I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, which comes with rich pork broth, pork chashu, half a soft boiled egg, scallions, and thin Hakata noodles. I also added the thick noodle refill on the side, and I'm glad I did because both noodles were excellent in different ways. The biggest standout here was the noodle quality. You can tell immediately that these are fresh noodles because the texture is just on another level. The thin noodles were fantastic and worked perfectly with the tonkotsu broth, but the thick noodles were incredible too. It's one of those meals where after the first bite you immediately understand why people talk about fresh noodles the way they do. The broth itself was rich, flavorful, and comforting without feeling overly heavy, and the pork in the ramen was very good too. Service was also a big part of why this visit stood out. Aaliyah was incredibly kind and welcoming, and she did a great job making the whole experience feel comfortable from the start. Good food is one thing, but good service is a huge part of what makes people want to come back, and she absolutely deserves a shoutout. The restaurant itself was clean, spacious, and comfortable. I was dining solo, so I sat at a smaller table, but they also have booths and larger middle tables that look like they'd work well for bigger groups. Food came out pretty quickly, and parking was easy since it's in a shopping center. And of course, everything got washed down with a Coke Zero. Not fountain, just canned, but it still hit the spot. This was an excellent meal from start to finish. Great appetizers, outstanding ramen, truly impressive noodles, and service that made the whole visit even better. I'll definitely be back.

For my entree, I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. Unfortunately, it was a bit lackluster. I'm not sure I'd return specifically for the ramen. My boyfriend ordered the truffle shoyu ramen and also found it to be underwhelming. The ambiance has also changed since my last visit. They've replaced the middle bar area with more tables and painted over the previously drawn-on walls. The space feels noticeably darker now and lacks some of the character it once had. That said, the service was great. Our server, JJ, was attentive, friendly and took good care of us.
