Small shop that sells meats and some great produce that you can't find in other places! Found some great empanadas!

This is the way that BBQ should hit!!…read more We stopped in the "Shack" while visiting Durham. Having been huge fans of North Carolina style BBQ, we were not disappointed. My wife and daughter enjoyed the Pork Plate. By for me, I went with the two meat combo with Pulled pork and brisket. The pulled pork was spot on. It was perfectly smoked and almost melted in my mouth. With a touch of spicy vinegar sauce, I was gone to Carolina in my mind for the rest of the day. The brisket might have been some of the best I've ever had. It had a nice fat layer and was also "melt in your mouth" and juicy. The brisket didn't need any sauce at all. It was that good. The hushpuppies were the star at the table. My family considers themselves to be connoisseurs of hush puppies, and these were ranked in the top five. A respectable ranking from such a discriminating hushpuppy panel. The sides we sampled included collard greens, mac and cheese and BBQ beans. The collards and Mac and cheese were out of this world. I should have ordered a double serving of the collards. However, the beans were a huge disappointment. They were more like a bowl of sub-par chili than BBQ beans. If we return, they will not be selected. A great BBQ spot when you are in Durham. Highly recommend you stop by, if only to taste the brisket!

It was tender and flavor was there. The ribs on the other hand was a bit dry and the hush puppies weren't my favorite since they felt a bit too dry and doughy. Overall, this has been one of my favorite bbq in Carolina.

Anyone been around to remember the days you had to cart yourself out to Raleigh to buy Arab /…read moreMiddle Eastern groceries? Long gone are those days thanks to this place! Excellent selection of Arab / Middle Eastern / Mediterranean / Asian goods. They have a great variety of both the standard staples, such as chick peas, bread, seasonings, yogurts, cheeses, frozen goods, and other raw or prepared ingredients, but also have more nuanced items you might not have seen in a long time had you grown up elsewhere and moved to the US. I don't have to go and order things online anymore. Additionally they have a butcher that has fresh meats that are also halal if you're Muslim. I haven't ever had their meats, and am not Muslim, but I know where to go if I need lamb or goat on special occasions. They don't really have produce beyond some shelf stable items, but that excluded, it's pretty much an oasis. Finally, the store is kept clean, well stocked, and organized. I've never been in there with items I need missing. They recently did a facelift on the front of the store and it looks awesome, very modern and inviting. The owners and their sons are super friendly, extremely kind, even offering to special order things I ask about, and are always in a helpful / cheerful mood! Would HIGHLY recommend stopping in to anyone looking for things they need, or just wanting to see what a Middle Eastern store looks like!

At this point, I'm convinced this place is being run by magic elves. I wish I could remember my server's name, but while my memory may have failed me, the service definitely did not. It was impeccable. Attentive, polished, warm, and exactly what you want from a restaurant at this level. And somehow, the food may have been even better this time. I always order the ribeye, and NanaSteak consistently gets it right. The steak practically melts in your mouth, is always cooked to the proper temperature, and has never disappointed me. I've yet to have a bad meal here. What I appreciate most is the consistency. Plenty of restaurants can give you one great meal, but coming back weeks later and having the same level of food and service says a lot. I would recommend just about everything here. Great food, exceptional service, and a restaurant that continues to deliver every single time.

They are located right beside the DPAC so when the shows let out people go over to get food. We were able to find a spot at the bar. The ambiance was nice. The bar was fully stocked. The service was great. We had Alice, who was very busy making drinks but was very attentive to us. We ordered the scallop ceviche which was very flavorful. You could taste the orange juice it was soaked in. The scallops were fresh and all of the flavors complemented each other well. We also got the Caesar salad, the ribeye and the crispy pork ribs. My least favorite was the Caesar salad. The capers on top were a nice addition but the salad dressing was extremely bland. It didn't taste like Caesar at all. It gave more of a creamy Parmesan that lacked flavor. Would not recommend. My favorite dish was the crispy ribs. They were tender and full of flavor. A lil bit on the salty side with a hint of sugar. The kimchi was a nice addition. It was spicy but delicious so beware! The ribeye was good. I would've liked maybe a garlic butter on top but overall I would give it an 8. For dessert we had the creme brûlée which was simple but delicious. You could see and taste the vanilla bean throughout the dish.

Our waiter was a nice guy (didn't get name, longer hair and mustache) and was attentive without being intrusive. They have a really good wine selection. This review is offered as constructive feedback to the staff, management, and ownership of a restaurant we want to see succeed. Today we stopped in during Sunday brunch and placed a takeout order for one pound of brisket and jambalaya. The wait was approximately an hour. I understand that brunch is busy, and the restaurant appeared to be working with two servers, a bartender, a busser, and several people in the kitchen. The front-of-house staff seemed to be doing what they could. The issue appears to be kitchen execution and order flow. Operationally, an order consisting primarily of slicing a pound of already-prepared brisket and portioning jambalaya should not remain in the same production queue for an hour. This is less a staffing criticism than a process problem. Management may want to look at ticket prioritization, a dedicated expediter during peak periods, separation of simple takeout orders from full dine-in tickets, and clearer ownership of orders from receipt through handoff. When the food is already prepared, throughput should be measured in minutes, not an hour. That matters because a restaurant can have excellent food and hardworking people and still lose customers through a bottleneck in the process. The objective shouldn't be to make everyone work harder; it should be to design the kitchen flow so the same people can work smarter and move appropriate orders through faster. Parking has also become increasingly difficult and is worth considering as the restaurant continues to draw a crowd. None of this changes what we enjoy about Succotash. We love the food, the music, the authenticity and the character of the place. We'll be back. But an hour for this particular takeout order points to an operational problem worth fixing. Great food deserves equally great execution.
