I am a little premature with this review as we checkout in the morning but.... My wife and I received a gift certificate for the West Mountain Inn from her mom. My in laws stayed here many times years ago and they loved it and my MIL knows we like to do "long weekends" in VT and NH to explore. We booked two nights and have had the most wonderful stay. The area is very nice and lots to see and explore. Our stay at the Inn has been wonderful. Everyone who works here has been so welcoming and helpful. The room we are in is very comfortable and well kept and clean. The property is gorgeous with lots of trails - we only briefly explored the trails on the property. The common areas feel very comfortable as well. We had breakfast at the Inn and it was wonderful - I commented to my wife that it was one of the best breakfasts I have eaten out in I can't tell you how long (partial "thanks Covid") - we do eat breakfast out with some frequency. Tonight we also had dinner at the Inn. While the farm to table menu is a little limited the choices were good. My wife had butternut squash ravioli and I had the crab cakes - both were excellent. She enjoyed her salad and I my soup. Lovely stay, very nice people, good meals, and a beautiful property. Not a single regret. We already started talking about a return trip! read more

I came here a couple weeks ago for a short romantic getaway with my boyfriend. I was very excited to be here by all the reviews I had seen beforehand. And let me just say, this place did not disappoint. As you drive up to the place, it immediately comes off as picturesque. Upon entering the place, we were immediately greeted by their dog, which was certainly a joy for my bf whom loves animals. We were given a quick tour of the place, and rundown of operations, and shown to our room. Nice little surprise, there was a t.v. after all. The settings is so unbelievably quaint and peaceful. There are windows all around with just beautiful views. Cookies, coffee and hot cocoa available almost all day. Cheeses were provided before dinner times. Our room was large and had an electric fireplace, with comfy chairs to sit by and read by the windows. We spent many hours in the common areas, playing their offered games of Chess and Scrabble. The do have a bar, which makes delicious mixed drinks. Their old fashioned was on point. Breakfast was complimentary every morning, and what options!!! Delicious!! I will admit, I didn't love my meal when we decided to eat there for dinner the one night. I honestly felt like I was "getting through" my meal. Much disappointed. That one night dish though was not enough to deter my 5 star ratings. My bf's dish was fabulous, and absolutely everything else was as well. We took a walk along the grounds (busted our asses twice lol) and it was breathtaking during the snowfall. It's true, there are alpacas!! This inn is a lovely venue for a wedding. We attended one this past weekend and it was a nice mini vacation. Our cottage had a television in one of the three rooms. Ours did not have one, which was fine with us. We liked going outside and exploring. The reception for AT&T was not the greatest, however they do have wifi if needed. I had the French toast and berries for breakfast. It was delicious with the Vermont maple syrup. I had it two mornings in a row. The staff was friendly and helpful with questions we had. There was one very sweet girl who waited on us who was just delightful. There are plenty of hiking trails and outdoor space for activities. Don't be afraid to get out and explore! read more

Couldn't be happier with our choice of the West Mountain Inn for our wedding venue! Beautiful labyrinth garden for the ceremony, cocktails on the front lawn and the gorgeous barn for dinner and dancing, we utilized all the place had to offer. The night before we had a woodfired pizza dinner outside followed by a campfire with s'mores. Our closest family and friends stayed at the Inn so it had an intimate feel the whole weekend. The FOOD is incredible. From breakfast to dinner and even the deli platters, everything is made with fresh, local and in-season ingredients. Amie is a wonderful wedding coordinator! She thinks of everything. We had to postpone our original date due to Covid-19 and she was with us every step of the way, alleviating our concerns and making sure our guests felt safe coming to the event. What a beautiful Inn. We enjoyed sitting in the library reading and drinking tea, sitting on the mountain top watching the moon rise and walking around the house and garden. Our room, the Ethan and Ira Allen room was just my style...rustic with barn wood walls and antique furnishings. We considered going to town for dinner, but after seeing the menu I had to eat in. And it was totally the right decision. We had crap bisque, cold duck with a peach chutney, and buttermilk chicken breast. For dessert we enjoyed the warm apple crisp a la mode. Compliments to the chef! We woke early in the morning to hike the 150 acre trails and enjoy breakfast before anyone else had risen. Loved that there was no tv in the rooms. A nice, relaxing getaway with great service and atmosphere! We were in the "Grandma Moses" suite which had a cozy thick-mattressed double bed with a "princess" canopy. Next to the bed was an old fashioned wood fireplace and a window with a fantastic view of the mountains and the Inn's gardens. Wifi was available but unneeded. While staying at this inn it's best to stay off the net. In addition to our bedroom we had a living room and a small bathroom. My dad said the shower had excellent water pressure. My favorite thing about the Inn were the little touches. In the room they give guests the gift of a flower (African violet) to take home. Downstairs in the lobby is a library full of modern and antique books. There are also journals (guest books) everywhere! About 10 in the hall, one in each room and one downstairs. Breakfast was included in our reasonable bill. I had wonderful chocolate pancakes while looking at the mountain-view, all while classical music played. So relaxing! PS be sure to walk through the garden maze and say hi to the alpacas out back! Adorable. read more

For Wednesday Pizza Night. If you can make it up the steep, treacherous dirt drive.....You could not ask for a more beautiful setting. You COULD ask for $15.00 per head instead of $18.00...might even motivate folks to buy more beer! The band was pretty second rate also, but we were glad it wasn't too loud. The pizza is tasty with a good crisp, bubbly crust...but why they add salt to the crust - to get you to buy drinks?? Very skimpy on the toppings, but good combos like corn and peppers, or potato and bacon. There is a salad - but my goodness, Vermont in mid-July and they serve "store-bought type" wilting lettuce with all the good local produce around? Inexcusable! One last weird thing...the 'server' said loudly (deliberately) while we were paying the tab at the bar; "Did table # so and so leave a tip?"... We were not served dinner; we were greeted and an explanation was provided as to how to help ourselves and go into the bar to purchase drinks if we wanted them.... so how does that warrant a tip? We tip the bartender who pours the beer. But the rest is all self-serve.I thought that obnoxious. Excellent H.M. cookies and brownies. $18.00 pp is just a bit too much for what is it though. How much, mostly pizza crust, can one eat? We hope they iron out the kinks, because the idea of the evening is wonderful. read more

We got a great deal for this Inn through Groupon. Were able to book Room#8, Carl Ruggles Room, with a fireplace. The Inn is beautiful with a great view. When we arrived upon check there was no one at the desk, so we sat down and waited, which wasn't a big deal. A waitress from the kitchen was really friendly and said someone would be with us shortly. Renee a staff member came through a few minutes later. We felt she was polite but rather cold. Didn't really welcome us and just seemed to be in a bad mood. This poor mood and lack of hospitality continued throughout our stay. Not really sure what we did or said to offend her but she was not friendly at all (perhaps because we were a Groupon customer?) The room was nice and clean with basic toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, and cream). The water pressure wasn't very good, and definitely needs to be updated as the water went in several directions and barely sputtered out. There are no TV's in the room, but this wasn't a big deal, as it was nice to get away from the electronics. I read several great reviews on the breakfast, but wasn't impressed. Breakfast was served from 8am-10am but by 9am most of the items needed to be replenished. The daily serving was muffins, fruit sitting in a bowl, pancakes/french toast, eggs (these were almost always out), bacon, and eggs. The coffee was pretty good and was usually served right away. I've had better breakfasts at Holiday Inn Express. They should give you the option of how you want your eggs cooked and should keep the buffet better stocked as you feel awkward asking them to keep replenishing certain items. Also, the website states there is a lavish Sunday breakfast brunch, the Sunday brunch was exactly the same as the breakfast buffet served on Saturday with the exception of instead of pancakes there was french toast. The dinner prix fixe is $40 which offers a 4 course meal with appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert and coffee/tea. It was a good meal for the price. We got the scallops for an appetizer which was tasty, but tasted a bit off with the maple syrup addition. The salad was pretty basic with cranberries and cucumbers. The NY Steak was overcooked (I ordered it medium). The maple cheesecake was not good and had an odd flavor, but the chocolate pudding was tasty. They have a nice selection of wines ranging from $26 to $90. They do give you a cute African Violet plant to take home, which is nice. However, they add 10% tax (normal), along with 18% gratuity to all meals (I'm not sure why the $10 breakfast BUFFET has an 18% gratuity tacked on, as it's a buffet?) and bar service which is a bit odd as gratuity is NOT mandatory. Didn't like this part, as it's a bit shady. All in all a beautiful Inn, would recommend it for the view and quaint rooms. read more

My husband and I got married 2 months ago here on August 15, 2015. I can't say enough good things about the Inn, the innkeepers and the wedding coordinator Terry. Everyone makes you feel like family and the setting is spectacular and magical. My guests kept raving that the barn looked like "a movie set", and the food was delicious! The rehearsal BBQ was fantastic (even with a little rain), the food was phenomenal and the wedding went beautifully. The staff is professional, attentive and kind, and the inn is just lovely and homey. They were so observant and on top of the weather, moving and adjusting to a little rain that everything went on without a hitch. The inn itself has a quaint warm feel, and there are so many things to do in the area from hike the local trails, bike ride or head into the local town. All the rooms are unique and lovely. I can't wait to go back and enjoy the seclusion and the food. A perfect place to relax, enjoy some outdoor activities and eat to your hearts content! We had our wedding here over memorial day and it truly felt like something out of a fairy tale. Amie and the rest of the wonderful staff at the West Mountain Inn were so easy to work with, and they made our wedding weekend go seamlessly. The space itself is absolutely gorgeous - rolling green mountains provide a beautiful backdrop and the barn is spacious and rustic yet elegant. There are 4 alpacas on site who also add to the appeal! All of the food we had was exceptional - we even had guests telling us that it was the best meal that they've had at a wedding! West Mt. Inn is one of those unique finds that delights your entire spirit. We first stayed at West Mt in 1979 on our honeymoon when Wes & Maryann Carlson had just bought the Inn. Their hospitality matched the charm of the Inn and we knew that we'd be back again and again. I'm going to guess that we've made 15-20 returns to the Inn since then. Some visits were just my wife and I, some with our children and once even with our extended family to celebrate our 16th Anniversary. Our most recent visit wasin October 2016 to celebrate our 37th Wedding Anniversary. The Inn, now owned by Maryann's daughter, Amy, has the same magical charm as always. The warm hospitiality and delicious food just magnify the experience even more. I am certain beyond the shadow of any doubt that you will love West Mt. Inn as much as we do. We stayed at the inn for three days and three nights, and had an amazing experience. Here though I'll restrict my review to just the food. We had breakfast at the inn three times and dinner there once. Though the breakfasts were provided they were definitely more than worthy of ones we would have paid for. Specials were served every day: omelets, fruit pankcakes, hash and fresh, seasonal fruit just to name a few. For dinner we had a five course prix fixe that was outstanding. The person I was with thought their steak was a little overdone, but it was still delicious. My pork medallions were great. Overall the meals at the West Mountain Inn were exceptional. read more

This was the third time that we have stayed at Arlington's West Mountain Inn. Once for a wedding, once on a Groupon special and the third time because we just like the place. Each room in the main lodge (a big old farmhouse) is unique and special. We have had different rooms on each occasion all with separate reading or just relaxing areas. One minor negative is no TV's in the rooms if that is important to you. There is a large common area on the main floor with a public TV as well as reading areas however. The grounds & mountain views are magnificent and the food for both breakfast and dinner first rate. If there is one negative that stands out it is the roadway that needs repair leading up to the Inn. We do anticipate returning here on our next trip to the area, read more

Great service, great food, great rooms, great romance. There's nothing better than getting away from civilization for a weekend to spend at the West Mountain Inn. We've done two Groupon deals there, and sadly they did not do another this year (otherwise, for us, it's a bit expensive). I absolutely love it here. Both times that we stayed we went to visit the Lincoln Family Home at Hildene just a short trek away. And both times it was nice to not have a TV. You can really reconnect with yourself while there and detach from the computers, TV's, and cell phones that seem to run our lives. read more

My wife and I saw a great deal this place was offering on the Groupon.com website. We were looking for a break from the hectic world that is our lives. I was unsure of what to expect but I was very pleased with what we found. Nestled up on a hillside, with incredible views of the mountains and valley below,this historic inn is the perfect spot to refresh and rewind. Take note that the road that leads to the inn is very narrow and not paved so be careful and drive slow! Upon arriving the hostess was very pleasant, and gave us a rundown of the local area, the building and the lama farm next door) They also will give you a map of the hiking trails that surround the inn, which are terrific! On the first floor there is a major 'common' room with a nice fireplace, couches, and a couple 'nooks' on each end, one near the mountain view, and one near the farm view (where the llamas roam!). On the adjacent side is a small bar with a small TV watching area, and a game room with all classic board games. My wife and I had a couple drinks in front of the fire and played some scrabble which was a delight, something we don't get a chance to do very often. Our room (#3) was beautiful, nicely decorated and the bathroom was clean. We had several windows we could open for fresh air, and a small living space with a couch and chairs for relaxing. The room points due east toward the mountain, and we had awesome sunrise views. The water pressure in the shower was a little low (if many people are showering in the inn, it was barely dripping out, but all in in it was manageable). As is with many older inns, it can be a little noisy from room to room, but after 11 pm most people were settled in. As far as I could tell, there are no TV's in any of the rooms, but it was actually nice to get away from all the technology of our lives for once. They do have wireless access for laptop/ipads/phones, etc however. They also left us a nice parting gift (an african violet plant) for us to take home and keep as a memory. As for children, if you have kids 10-14 years old, this is probably an ok place to bring them. For younger children, I would not recommend bringing them to this place. Some rooms have fireplaces and you can gather your own cut wood from the main living room if you need more. We did not have a fireplace (they were all booked up) We had dinner in the dining room the first night. The food was very good, full with 3 courses. There is a full wine list and a couple beers on tap including local Vermont Long Trail. It's a price fix menu so make sure you ask if this is not ok with you. There are plenty of alternatives in nearby Manchester. The breakfasts were very good, with full service (coffee, tea, pancakes, eggs, bacon, muffins) All-in-all, a nice stay, a good break, and a well maintained establishment. read more

Forgot to write a review after our wonderful trip this past summer. The staff at West Mountain Inn is wonderful. We had one of the smaller rooms (the hotel was full for a concert series), but it was still lovely and we spent so much time on the grounds and around the area, the room was mostly just a place to sleep. :) The food was fabulous. Both the sit-down meal we had one night and the special barbecue on another evening were fabulous. The breakfasts were also wonderful and there were always cookies, muffins, and snacks available all throughout the day. Really special place. read more

Everything about our stay was perfect. When we made the booking, the woman on the phone was very courteous and friendly. And when we arrived, we were greeted by the same. Luna the Inn dog gave us a fun quick tour of the place and then we were brought to our room. All of the rooms are different, but every one of them that we were able to see had unique character and charm. Our room was on the 3rd floor (as we requested) and was enormous! The view from our room was great, and the King bed was very comfortable! Dinner in the restaurant was equally excellent, with a nice variety of choices on the menu and everything tasting delicious. The common areas of the inn are spacious enough to hang out in without being on top of other people who are also staying. There are plenty of spaces to curl up with a book in a big arm chair in front of a fireplace, or to play a game of chess or other board games they had available. Breakfast was included in our stay and was equally as great as dinner, with several choices on the menu! The property is beautiful and the ability to use their snow shoes for a nice hike around it was great fun!
