Came in on a Friday night. Fort Wayne definitely needs a place like this. First Farm to table restaurants so it's nice supporting local farms. Ambience was excellent. The restaurant feels more like something you would go to in Chicago or new york with the industrial feel, rustic woods and Edison lights. Knocked down a star because it is a little loud. Our waiter (Randall) was at attentive and very pleasant. Chicken and waffles were excellent!! Crispy skin and tender chicken that was cooked well. Cornbread waffle was a little dense but soaked up the honey and homemade hot sauce well. Husband got the burger which was amazing! Pork chop was decent but was slightly dry. Still great flavors and knowledgeable staff. Food for Fort Wayne was a five star. But knocked down one star due to loudness and no birthday desserts (boo - but totally personal preference). Tolon is just what Fort Wayne needed! As much as I enjoy some of "regular" fine dining establishments in the area, it was time for Fort Wayne to catch up with the restaurant scene found in other large cities around. Tolon is located across from Columbia Street, in a nice older brick building. They have done a nice job with unique decor touches. The restaurant has a nice bar and openish kitchen, with a bit of an industrial vibe but more inviting. The reservation signs were Scrabble pieces, which I thought was creative. The service was friendly and attentive. Our server made nice suggestions for food and beverage, which I appreciate when eating someplace that is new to me. The Farm to Fork menu is seasonal and I believe changing soon for the spring. For an app, we chose the Duck Fat Frites and Pork Belly. They were both good, but the pork belly was awesome. It was an excellent cut of pork belly and had an Asian type peanut sauce with it. For dinner, I went with the Pork Chop. It was recommended by our server and I am sure glad I listened. I would say it was the best pork chop I have at a restaurant. It was bone in, with a nice grilled taste and was incredibly moist. It was served over a nice polenta with pickled apples and onions. For dessert I had the Vanilla Pots de Creme, that they somehow were able to give a popcorn taste to, served with a salted maple sauce and popcorn brittle. The dessert was large and served in a cute mason jar. Although I appreciate the thought behind the dessert, it was way way way too sweet, and I love sweets. The brittle was kind of wierd tasting. The reason for my star deduction is that they were out of several beers and wine the night we were there and my polenta and pork belly were served at room temperature. Overall a great meal and I definitely plan to eat there again. I am excited to try the new spring menu! read more

I took a friend to brunch one Sunday and it was fabulous. The food was impeccable, and the service was outstanding. We decided we needed to try it again for dinner some time. We stopped by one afternoon for an early dinner. They were still serving lunch but accommodated us with dinner which was wonderful. The steak was amazing! One of the best we have ever had. The pork chop was superb! We had the pork belly sandwich minus the bun as an appetizer and it was amazing. It was the perfect bite with the pork belly, the fennel slaw and the raisins. With construction all around and meters taken, where else is there to park. I am not all that familiar with the area around there. Very nice atmosphere and we were lucky enough to have a window seat with a great view of downtown buildings. Cocktails were great but unfortunately the best tasting food were the soft pretzels. My wife ordered the chicken breast which was served on a bed of the most foul tasting mashed potatoes I ever encountered. My wife had one bite and said " How can you screw up mashed potatoes?" Well they did. I ordered the New York Strip which was a monster piece and looked great. It was cooked just as I ordered it ( a perfect medium rare) but it simply had ZERO flavor. When I pay that much for a steak, I expect to not need any sauce with it. We will not be returning. I think that people fall in love with the atmosphere and ignore the fact that the food is a flat out flop. read more

Great atmosphere as it felt relaxed, warm and positive attitude from the staff. The bone marrow and beef tartar were a great starter. Both came with toasted bread so I recommend you try them on separate visits. The scallops were cooked to perfection, but one of the pice was still a bit raw. The risotto was creamy and delicious with the green beans topping it off for an added texture. Rabbit and gnocchi was an ok dish. The rabbit did not come through as it tasted just like chicken and very limited portion. What saved the dish was the amazing texture of the gnocchi which is very difficult to come by. This new'ish spot is an absolute five star for food. Unfortunately the space is a solid three star and no more, and the service, is a one star, and that is generous. So, I have it a three star overall. Go running to Tolon for the brussel sprouts, deviled eggs and pot pie. Exceptional. Worth a special trip to Ft. Wayne if you live in the area. The space has a personality crisis. Its not at all white table cloth. Its kind of hipster goes rustic. I was there during the day, so its probably nicer after dark, but they really need to decide on the vibe. The service was the big disappointment. I called the day prior to make reservations. I went to the website and called the number listed. It apparently was forwarded to the cell phone of a manager or owner. The woman who answered very sharply told me that I was calling the wrong number and to hang up and call the restaurant. I did, and the same woman answered. She shrieked that I had called the wrong number again. I looked at the number on the phone and it was exactly the number listed on the website. She insisted I was wrong, and actually said, "I'm not going to argue with you. You're wrong and should be calling the restaurant, but I'll take your reservation to get you off the phone." True story. I was floored. I have NEVER been mishandled like this by any restaurant staff at any level in any restaurant anywhere in the US or aboard. The only reason I made the reservation and showed up is because my mother was looking forward to the restaurant and I didn't want to spoil her experience. When we arrived, I half expected that staff to know what had happened, and an extra effort to make us feel comfortable. Nothing. Nada. The wait person we had was very friendly and polite. She knew the basics of the menu, but she couldn't speak in any sophisticated way about the amazing food the restaurant was serving and she was representing to us. She'd be great in a hipster trend restaurant where the environment is more special than the food. But not Tolon. Identity crisis again. I'd recommend Tolon to anyone just because the food is so darned special. I personally won't return. And I hope their up their game on service. The food deserves better. read more

While in Fort Wayne for work I found this spot on yelp. The place did not disappoint. Everything was delicious. I had the butternut squash soup, salmon and finished with the bananas foster. Our group of 5 tried out this new place Saturday. Many appealing items on the menu to try. We had duck frites, scallops, bone marrow apps. Awesome cocktails, craft beers and wine to quench our thirst. Steaks, pork chop, duck, scallops entrees. Sides of charred Brussel sprouts, carrots/chard, whipped cauliflower. Entree was served lukewarm and dried out, as if it had been sitting in the kitchen for quite awhile. I told the server, who took it back, then returned a few minutes later with my meal clearly microwaved. That helped with the temp but not the flavor or texture. Both my husband's & my meals were very disappointing, especially for the price. Also the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. It's noisy and cold and certainly doesn't make you want to linger. Actually, nothing about this place makes you want to return. Plus the restroom was very dirty, which always makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen and staff. My one star is for our server who did seem to be trying her best under difficult circumstances. read more
