If I could give less than 1 star, I would. We had Tom & Peter install a new wood floor and refinish existing and in less than one year the topcoat started to peel and the floorboards started to warp. We called and made an appointment for them to look at and of course - they didn't show! Went through this four more times and I finally gave up. read more

Having read these reviews just now, I'm very surprised by the lack of 5 stars or 4 at the least. I could not be happier after being told for about 5 years by flooring professionals that my pre~finished floor could not be sanded. Not only did they sand it beautifully, they removed the micro bevel as well because it never really looked clean. We were supposed to have it refinished the 6th through the 10th but when they called last Monday to see if they could start Tuesday, April 30th, we were so happy and definitely made it happen. The guys working for him are punctual and friendly and they do so much of the work by hand on their knees. My flooring goes on an angle to make the room look larger so that is not easy and requires extra work. The floor is now nice and flat and I can tell you, too, we had 3 estimates; one other gentleman was very nice and he measured the rooms using the laser as did Tom. Both of those guys said it would be 4 or 5 days to finish. The 3rd guy came in, didn't measure anything, looked around and said it could be done in 2 days for $3600!! Anyway, we loved how professional and precise Tom's quote was. Had I read these reviews first, I may not have gone with him but I am so happy I did choose Tom & Peter Flooring and seeing as these are older reviews, I am confident you, too, will be thrilled. We used Tom and Peter Flooring last November/December to replace the hardwood floors in our condo. We have given them every opportunity to fix their mistakes but reaching out to them has not been successful. We have numerous cracks in the floor. One major crack in our entryway was brought to their attention before they finished the job. They refused to replace the board and proceeded to fill the crack but the crack is still an eyesore. We also have issues with the stain application. Beware, they have an excuse for everything but you are still left with a defective floor. read more

Each step was so simple and streamlined that I would highly recommend them to anyone. They worked WITH us on making things perfect for our home and with all the work we've done in our remodel it was hard to find contractors that take such pride in their work. It was the worst experience with a contractor ever, his workers are extremely rude, sloppy and dirty, once the project started we had issues and Tom - supposedly the owner, was impossible to get a hold of. Once he has your money, he does not care, he will not call you back, will not show up, terrible person. Save yourself the grief and find a reputable flooring contractor. We needed someone to quickly pick up where the last ones left off, assess how the job could be salvaged and get it done to our original specs. I'm happy to say that Tom & Peter delivered in spades. They communicated clearly throughout and kept us informed as the project progressed. They worked carefully but quickly and within a week we had completed floors that looked perfect. We contracted with Tom & Peter Flooring last year to re-do our entire downstairs wood floors...this was part one. His team came in before we moved to our older home and did an incredible job. The floors were meticulously sanded and prepared and he worked with us to get the correct shade to darken our oak floors. They not only were timely, but Tom and his team were very professional and treated our home with respect. For part two, we had T&P come in recently to finish our kitchen floors after our kitchen remodel and finish our dining room, which suffered some minor damage during our reconstruction. Again, Tom's team was super efficient and professional and it took them only two days. T&P was not the lowest bid we had, but not the highest and we would recommend them to anyone needing refinishing of floors. I have hired Tom from Tom & Peter Flooring last October, he came out to my house in River Forest, IL, a two-story split level and provided me with a quote to replace my current hardwood planks from 2" to 3" in my living room, my kitchen, and my dining room and hallways to give it a more modern look. I also wanted to get rid of all carpeting in my bedrooms and have the same planks installed. My staircase was also in bad shape, as I've had carpeting there for the past 15 or so years, and I wanted it to be nicely redone to match my new floor. I have looked at all the reviews of reputable contractors out there, and Tom had great reviews. His quote was not the cheapest quote out of 4 contractors that came over, but I wanted my place to be done right the first time. Tom requested a 65% deposit before he would start the work, he said he needed to order materials, planks, railings, steps, etc., I figured it was a little bit too steep but nevertheless I agreed to pay him the deposit and agreed he would start the work the last week of October. He said he will order the materials right away and have them delivered the first week of October. Oh boy was I wrong. After he cashed my check, he disappeared completely, stopped answering my calls and emails, this guy is a total THIEF. He is STEALING from everyone and I don't even understand how he can keep doing this and not be shut down yet. It is now January and none of my work has been completed and I am out of over $30,000.00 of my hard earned money. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT HIRE!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
