Kind, thoughtful service and delicious-tasting Pad Thai and chicken fried rice...a winning combination!

Tom Yum Goong is located in the back corner of the parking lot next to the Vietnamese restaurant (Pho Lee Hoa Phat). We frequent the Vietnamese restaurant, but never really think about going to Tom Yum Goong until today. We were originally going to Pho Lee Hoa Phat for dinner, but when we walked up I asked my son if he want to eat Thai instead which he and my wife decided they wanted to eat instead of Vietnamese. Ambiance (3.5/5 stars): first impressions when we walked in is that it is dark and needed more lighting. After sitting down, I noticed that one side of the restaurant was full of random antique items. I overheard someone asking them about the antiques and the owner said that her husband buys the antiques at estate sales, etc and that they are open to offers to purchase them. There are some Thai decor in the restaurant. Older 70's/80's music was playing in the background so it didn't feel like being in a Thai Restaurant especially with all the American antiques on one side of the restaurant. There are a handful of tables (seating for 4 people), but they do have room for larger parties. Food (4.5/5 stars): We really enjoyed our food. They had great flavors. The portion size was not big, but the price also reflected the smaller portion size compared to other Thai restaurants in town. Dishes: - Mango Salad: nice chunks of mango, mixed with lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onions, mint, cilantro, carrots, cashews, shrimp and the chef's special mango sauce. It was a nice refreshing dish and was once of our favorite dishes that we ordered today. - Super Pad Thai w/ Chicken: flavorful, authentic Pad Thai flavors - Moo Yang (B.B.Q. Pork): nice tasting grilled pork with sweet chili dipping sauce - Pad Ka Prow (Pad Basil - Beef): nice flavor, had a lot of green beans (not usually in Pad Ka Prow), but I liked the flavors. I always welcome extra veggies. Service (4/5 stars): The waitress/owner was very nice and was pretty attentive overall. She was the only one waiting tables and with take out orders as well as helping some in the kitchen. She came by a few times to check on us and refill our waters. It was a slow night for dinner (~7pm, Friday), only one other table eating and 2 take out orders while we were there, so not sure how the service would have been if they were busy. Food came out relatively quick. Tom Yum Goong is a kind of hidden in Vacaville. They have great tasting food and would be much busier at a better location. They do have smaller portion sizes, but prices do reflect that. Between Vacaville and Fairfield, I feel Vacaville's Thai restaurants are much tastier than any in Fairfield and Tom Yum Goong is no exception. If you are craving some good Thai food, give them a try. You might even find a piece of antique that you may want to purchase. read more

We've gone to this restaurant for years. The food was always delicious and the service was wonderful. Monday a friend and I went to have early dinner and found that the restaurant is no more. There are new owners that were there and said the restaurant would be opening on July 1. I was so disappointed and shocked that I didn't even ask if it was still going to be the same cuisine. I'm so sad to see this excellent restaurant is closed. I will miss it and will need to find a new favorite Thai restaurant. read more

I don't like slamming places when the owners (or people running the place) are nice but I can't give out good ratings just because they're nice either. Some places just need to go out of business. If you're going to name your business after a dish, then it should darn well be the best dish there. This might be the worst Tom Yum Goong I've ever had. Soup was sweet and yet bitter? Should be a bit sour not bitter. Mushrooms look like they are at least a week old. Soup tasted like it was from some kind of a boxed concoction or powder. Shrimp in it were plentiful so but also like they were thrown in from a frozen bag and chewy. The shrimp in the fried rice were clearly of a better quality but overall the rice was a dismal affair. The yellow curry with pork was probably the best dish but even that was off. Tasted a bit more like chinese or japanese style curry than Thai. Is the lady running it Chinese? She didn't look Thai. We were probably first in person customers of the day on a Saturday (not a monday) 11:30 so no excuse for lame leftover food. If you're going to serve water at least provide filtered if your tap is terrible. This is not too much to ask. The ecclectic mix of antiques is cool if a bit out of place and weird but no points off for that. Just overall bad food. This area is not devoid of Thai food. There are plenty of choices to be had. read more

Hands down, this is the most unassuming yet best tasting Thai food in Vacaville in our family's opinion. I've been to this restaurant a couple times, but it's been years since I've been back. It's a nice restaurant with friendly staff. I was craving boat noodles and this is one of the very few places in the Fairfield/Vacaville area that offer it. Boat Noodles - I actually took this to go and had it in the comfort of my home. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor and quality of this noodle soup. I've had boat noodles a few times in the past and I would say this is definitely one of the better spots. The meat was so tender and literally melts in your mouth. The noodle to meat ratio was perfect. There was plenty of meat, probably more than I would've preferred but that's normal for me. I would take more noodles over meat any day, LOL. With that being said, they still provided a good amount of noodles so i was very satisfied! The reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because the broth itself was a bit sweeter than I preferred. Other than that, it was perfect. I'll definitely be back for more! Pad Thai- I ordered the chicken pad thai, spicy level hot and it was delicious but it wasn't spicy. I was a bit disappointed about that, but overall the flavor was great. I actually felt like the meat was sparse in this dish, but once again that's not really a problem for me but I could see how it could be for others. read more

My sister & I came here the other day for a late lunch around 1pm. There weren't any other customers at the time we walked in the door. We were greeted by a nice lady and she walked us over to our table. We started out with some wonderful hot Jasmin tea, and ice water that had a hint of lime, which was delicious. We looked over the large menu, and decided to start off with some Egg Rolls $8.95 which were yummy! They were served with a sweet honey sauce with crushed peanuts, that was great. The next item we got was their incredible Chicken Tom Ka Kai Coconut Soup which comes in a huge metal pot with a flame coming up from the center $11.00 There was plenty for several helpings each, but it was kind of hard to get to the bottom of the pot since their soup spoons are rather big. There were mushrooms, lemon grass, pieces of tender chicken, as well as lime leaves which gave it a wonderful flavor. We also split an order of Chicken Pad Thai $14.95 which was different then what I'm used to. Their version was served a bit sweeter, and with glass noodles, instead of the typical flat noodles. I used the women's bathroom which is in the back store room area. It was fairly clean, but my biggest issue was the sticky floors throughout the restaurant. I assume they just use to much cleaner, and don't rinse it afterwards, which is totally annoying as you walk around. We'll be back to try some Pumpkin Curry, and I can't wait for Sticky Rice w/ Mango to come back in season. read more

Their iced coffee is delish. The dishes? Ok. Decent. The green chicken curry veggies seemed like they might have been frozen.

There are so many good Thai restaurants, unfortunately this place is not good. It's so so, I wanted to like this place, but I cannot recommend their food. I tried the Panang curry and fried rice. Wasn't worth the price and was like a 3 in taste. Disappointing curry. read more

Came here with a group of friends for dinner. The restaurant wasn't busy when we sat down and it wasn't the best looking interior but the food was delicious! The Thai tea was really refreshing too. I recommend getting the beef larb, and pad see ew with chicken. Also ask for the spicy seasonings/oil on the side to make anything spicier. Ok I'm not lying this place is top class. The food is so authentic I'm sure you won't find a better yellow or green Thai curry to compare!! Yes it was that good. It's too bad that I have to travel from Los Angeles to a off-beat place (Vacaville) to come up with this remarkable review but hey you never know sometimes where you'll find yourself!! Needless to say, I was hoping for a surprise-- not a revelation but just something to end the first leg of my road trip and I have say it was honestly really (really) good. I even tried the egg rolls -- they were top notch as well! Maybe I'm mistaken but these are not Pad Thai noodles?? I'm looking at other pictures posted from this restaurant and these are definitely much thinner. And yes I've had Pad Thai many times. This is not the same. Also, it costs me about $15. read more

An Eccentric establishment mixed between a open mic lounge /band establishment, now focused on the food. And the food is why I hold this place in regards. The name of this restaurant holds true. You gone here for the food and especially the soups. The Thai style hot and sour soup warms the soul on this cold rainy evening. The myriad of flavors swirled in this hot broth of spice, just fills my mind and stomach of its cravings. Because it opens early for dinner, 2. It's conveniently located at a quaint shopping plaza (we can do a quick run to the grocery afterwards), 3. The food is sooo delicious! Stopped by in November. 3.5 I'd say. Everything was cleared for COVID, and I was only there for a pickup really. Ordering through and picking up through the lady made it feel very right at home. She's was very cheery and nostalgic. I had ordered tom ka, pad eggplant, and chicken pad thai. They actually didn't have pad eggplant when I got there so I got the pra ram delight instead. The tom ka had good flavor to it and a decent amount of veggies to it. Not that much shrimp though. The pad thai was pretty good. I liked that the flavor was cooked into the noodles well. It felt like the eggs were missing though, and I wish I had asked if other veggies could've been added to the dish. It felt a little one note to me after a while. The pra ram I'd say was the least successful. It was just the steamed veggies with the sauce tossed on top. The sauce was very little so it mostly consisted of crushed peanut. The veggies weren't cooked in it at all unfortunately and not coated enough to really make it worthwhile. I've had better from the area honestly on multiple fronts, but I love the feel of the place. I'd stop by again sometime to try some of the other offerings and tweak some things to see if I can make it work. read more

I'm here in Vacaville Monday night. It feels like I'm kind of stepping back in time, it had a lot of '94 vibes in here. There wasn't a lot of people when I got here. I had a lot of Duck in the last week. I had a lot of Fried Rice already. Korean Bulgogi Fried Rice, Benihana Teppanyaki Fried Rice, or Morimoto Duck Confit Fried Rice. I usually get a Pineapple Fried Rice, Seafood Fried Rice, or Chicken & Salted Fish Fried Rice. But never this, this looks different. I went with a Duck Fried Rice for today. Wok fried Jasmine rice with Roasted Duck, Egg, fresh Garlic, Pea, Carrot, Yellow Onions, Green Onion, and Tomato with lime. It came out so fast, warm from the Wok. This felt like it might be from a Street vendor, not saying it's a bad or good thing. I was thinking I might not like it at first, but it got better with every bite. This dish isn't perfect, I felt like the Roast Duck probably could've been deboned or shredded slightly better. But then again, that might be the more homemade or rustic way. I don't know what they seasoned this with, but it feels like it was seasoned well. I feel like it needed that something something, I don't know what that something is but it's something. I don't know what that shot glass is for, there's no Tequila, Vodka, or Cognac in there. It looks like some sort of Sauce, but nobody explained to me what that is. So I didn't use that Sauce, don't know if it's better with or without it. I think that squeeze of Lime and fresh Veggies helped it. Oh, and I also had to get a Milk Tea. I think the best part was the Iced Milk Tea. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.5-3.9 stars, this could be a 3.6-3.9 stars on an off or bad day, this could be a 4.1 stars on a good day, but I give this a flat 4 stars. read more

Absolutely delicious food! We had the garlic fried rice , mixed vegetables, basil fried rice, and Tom Yum Kai soup! The soup is to die for! The broth is tasty and very flavorful. Mixed vegetables sauce is superb and cooked to perfection. We came here cause Rice Barn was busy and am so glad we got to experience this restaurant! This is my absolute favorite Thai place in the area! I've been going here for about 4 years now and not once have I been disappointed. I always start off with the fresh spring rolls and then order chicken pad see ew. The flavor of the dish itself is so much better and saucy than other places. Came here with a group of 10 people on a Monday on the way back to the bay. We were seated right away and the server came quickly to take our orders. The decor inside is pretty basic, no frills. We each ordered our own dishes and also got a few items to share. We got the spicy wings and Tom kha to share. My boyfriend and I got the basil fried rice and Penang curry beef for the entree. The Tom kha was really good, everyone enjoyed it. The wings were good too, but they weren't really spicy. We enjoyed the fried rice, but we didn't really like the Penang curry. It just didn't taste like what we are used to. My friend got the green curry and it was so watery. Overall, it was good for a quick bite. I recommend the basil fried rice and the Tom kha. read more

I've been here for over 10+ years since previous owner. Love their food, every dish is flavorful and on point. They are a lovely couple that own this place, always treat me like family. I don't go here as much now due to work and family but anytime I have a chance, I always stop by to pick up some food. My fav is the super pad Thai, garlic vegetables, beef and broccoli.
