It is a lot of food, but we wiped out all of it among two adults and two young kids. The satays were SO GOOD! Hands down the best I've had in the USA, and on par with the best satay places I've had in Southeast Asia! Our favorites including both kids were beef and pork. So tender, so flavorful and delicious even without using the peanut sauce. We even got another two orders of each to take home! Seafood laksa was such a big portion with good amount of seafood. If you've had Singaporean or Malaysian laksa, this is different. Different in a good way since the owner chef is from Indonesia. The Hainanese chicken rice was tasty. Turmeric rice was different since I'm used to the ginger chicken rice, but the poached chicken was very well made. Under the chicken skin was a layer of gelatin which happens when the chicken is poached and then cool in a meticulous method. Together with the ginger scallion oil sauce, it was umami! I made it here about thirty minutes before closing and made an effort to quickly order off their QR code menu/tab. (I also paid using the online services, but I did see someone paying in person.) I was drawn to Bazar Eatery when I saw they had Laksa; I ordered the Seafood Laksa. Ever since I had it in Singapore, I've been hoping to find somewhere that serves this soup. It was nice to find somewhere that serves it, but it doesn't compare to the flavor of the laksa I had in Singapore. (Maybe it's a different variant of the dish, but I preferred the more coconut heavy broth flavor that I had over there.) I still enjoyed this dish overall though. I also tried the Hainanese Chicken. It really wasn't anything amazing, but this could be due to the dish being served with regular, white rice; they had run out of turmeric rice for the day. I also had the kumquat sparkling drink. The menu notes it's sour, but I didn't think it was overly so. It was still more sweet than sour in my opinion. I enjoyed the drink, and it tasted like they used real fruit rather than artificial syrups. I think the portions are a bit small, particularly in the case of the Hainanese Chicken, but it's nice that they served complimentary shrimp chips. I ordered the Hainanese Chicken and Seafood Laksa. Ordering occurs via your own phone after scanning the QR code. There is a physical menu to reference to make ordering easier. The picture of the Hainanese Chicken was very deceiving as the amount of chicken that was served on the dish was half the amount on the picture. After looking at other Yelp reviews that contained pictures of the Hainanese Chicken it became evident that it was their "normal" portion. Including a picture of the dish on the menu with double the serving seemed very dishonest. Fresh shrimp chips are served complementary with the meal. The shrimp chips were tasty and flavorful to enjoy while waiting for the food to arrive. The Seafood Laksa was spicy, delicious, and creamy with a strong coconut milk taste. The shrimp were whole shrimp with the head and shell on. There were also hard boiled quail eggs which complemented the seafood well. The noodles were clear noodles which I wasn't expecting, however went well with the soup. Service was average as the employee only served the food. FEB2026 Got food for takeout to try somme other things. This time I ordered the soto ayam with chicken, the fried chicken, and the garlic tumeric rice. As always they were so nice about everything. Everything was good and prepared well. I'd say fav of the meal was the fried chicken but I was definitely in the mood for it. It was still nice and crispy even taking it back to the hotel which was great, and the amount is certainly shareable. The seasoning for the chicken was noms as well. The tumeric rice had good flavor and balanced well off of the chicken. The soto ayam the broth really brought things together. With so few places offering Indonesian, Malaysian, or Singaporean food in the area, it's such a treat to have Barzar around! This was my second visit with my first was back in 2024. I still remember how excited I was to see Laksa on the menu back then, and it did not disappoint. On this trip, I ordered the shrimp mee goreng and beef rendang, and both dishes were amazing! The mee goreng had that perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors with a nice smoky wok hei. The beef rendang was rich and tender, pairing perfectly with the turmeric rice. Also a bonus is you're served yummy shrimp chips after ordering!! My group and I loved everything so much, we're already looking forward to our next visit. Having grown up in Indonesia, I have a high standard when it comes to Indonesian food. It's not often that I find dishes in restaurants that truly compare to what I enjoyed back home. That's why I was pleasantly surprised by the food at this restaurant--it was delicious. We started with complimentary prawn chips. While the texture was a bit unusual--denser and grittier than the light, airy chips I'm used to--the flavor was still spot on. We also ordered the pangsit goreng, which was just okay. I wasn't a fan of the subtle curry flavor in the filling--it didn't quite work for me. For my main entrée, I ordered the seafood laksa which came with thin rice noodles, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The shrimp coconut broth was rich, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. Came here after a day trip in Davis, and was fortunate to get a seat right away. The restaurant space is small, so I saw that seating filled up quickly. Wow!! This restaurant has been open for a bit. We saw the rave reviews and decided to finally try it. It's AMAZING! While the dishes are things we are unfamiliar with, we are familiar with delicious food. There is a lady who has been there both times for our visits. She is a real sweetie. Each piece was beautifully wrapped, and the outer shell had a satisfying crunch. While the beef filling looked like it might be dry, it was actually moist and flavorful, with a strong savory onion profile that really stood out. The other appetizer we tried--the chicken satay--was easily one of the best versions I've had. It tasted like they used chicken thighs, which made the meat especially tender. The cook was spot-on: the chicken slid off the skewers effortlessly. The peanut sauce was thick and nutty, with just the right amount of richness. I tried the peanut sauce on its own and coughed instantly, so eat it only if you think you can handle the heat laksa (5/5) -- wow this our first time trying laksa and I was so excited after seeing it featured on food travel shows like Andrew Zimmern, Anthony Bourdain, etc. and this did not disappoint. It is aromatic, spicy, sweet, and umami altogether. All of the seafood (it came with A LOT) were perfectly cooked and we loved the textures contributed by every component. I was so excited when my friend told me about a restaurant in Vacaville serving Singaporean food. My friend and I made the trek out there to check it out. On our first visit, we ordered the eggrolls, beef rendang and the sayur campur (eggplant in shrimp paste). They give you shrimp chips to start your meal. I LOVE shrimp chips. The eggrolls were pretty standard but they serve it with a lime juice and garlic dip. I was fan of the dip. Our beef rendang was nice and tender and hit the spot. I've a similar dish to the sauy campur before with either okra or green beans. In their verson, the shrimp paste was over powering and there was more cabbage than eggplant. On our next visit, we got the satay beef, laksa, nasi goreng fried rice, and fried chicken. We could barely eat the laksa because it was too spicy for us. We don't usually eat spicy food so this may not be so hot for others. Extra points for the amount of seafood they put in the soup. The satay was tender and perfectly seasoned. However, the stars of our meal were the fried chicken and the nasi goreng fried rice. I'm glad our server talked us out of the soto ayum and recommended this instead. The deep fried chicken was heavenly. The nasi goreng had a smoky spice that builds gradually. I would drive to Fairfield just for these 2 items alone. Service has been so gracious and kind during both our visits. It made us feel welcomed. The owner was at the front was always around to refill drinks or see how our meal was. Barzar is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. It gets busy for the lunch crowd. It's a small restaurant so I suggest getting there early for lunch. In the city of Winters, CA where there's plenty of American restaurants, sometimes you're craving something with a curry gravy. This unassuming restaurant on the side of an Asian grocery store is a diamond in the rough. I had the curry chicken with rice and my bf had their chicken noodle soup. Wow - that's all I can say. A little unassuming spot, modern interior, kitchen is exposed when you walk in. We were sat down quickly, service and waitress came back rather often. It came with complimentary shrimp chips (that were AMAZING). We got the pork satay, beef rendeng, and laksa soup noodles. The food came out FAST and delicious. There's not a lot of southeast Asian restaurants around and this was one was SO good. I would definitely come back and try other dishes. read more
