On vacation, this was one of a handful of restaurants open Thanksgiving Eve. Service was excellent. Kadesha took good care of us. Nice ambiance. Every dish from appetizers to entrees was fresh, tasted homemade, and beautiful presentations. Fried seafood platter for appetizer: indescribably good. Pasta bolognese is wonderful. Pleasant dining at Turtle Point Clubhouse on Kiawah. Be sure to make reservations!

For starters, when we got there we saw our friends and walked to sit down with them and ordered some thing to drink and then the hostess comes over and tells us that we must've gotten by her so we need to get up from the table and go back inside to have our temperature checked. It was incredibly odd. They could've taken her temperature at the table and not made us get up and walk across the whole restaurant again to come in to the beginning? Then we had an appetizer that was good it was calamari, shrimp, and a few other seafood options that came with two sauces. That was good. I ordered a Caesar salad for dinner with blackened shrimp and it just wasn't good. It did not taste like it was coming from a great restaurant but more a kit that you could buy at the grocery store. I was pretty disappointed by it. The Bolognese sauce just wasn't up to the muster either. Will not return. read more

Great service beautiful view of the golf course from the wide patio. The bruschetta was about the best I've had and the bread with marinara was also good... the marinara was very fresh tasting. The caprese salad was excellent (maybe peak tomatoes is what contributed most) but my husband said the Caesar was just average. We enjoyed what little of our entrees we could eat after appetizers and salads. The service was truly excellent.... Pleasant, efficient and friendly server. Will go back! read more

We went for our valentine's date night. Started with the fried oysters (out of this world) and mussles in a spinach and house made fennel sausage broth(yum). Split a fresh caesar salad and then had the duck bolognese lasagna (best ever) and a butternut squash ravioli. Didn't have room for dessert but finished with delicious coffee. Worst experience ever. We had a reservation for 5 months, and they stuck us in the bar. The manager said she could let us wait 30 minutes even though we have had a reservation forever. This was the closest pizza offering near our rental in Kiawah. We ignored previous reviews, stating lack luster, taste, due to proximity/convenience...but I won't do that again. I called to place an order on the phone, and from the menu online, starting ordering. The gentleman on the phone interrupted and asked if I was ordering from "the to-go menu". I wasn't aware of this menu, so I asked him where I could see it, and he said "oh it's just a phone menu". So now my understanding is I can't order the pizza on the regular menu, but haven't a clue what pizzas are on the phone menu. I ask for a breakdown of all the pizzas, and we settle on 3, plus a family salad (for 2-4ppl). We're told the pizza would be ready in 30 min, so we headed over at that time. When my husband paid, the total was $160. For 3 (14") pizzas and a family salad. $35/pizza is steep, but if it's good pizza, maybe I can stomach it. This was not good pizza. The Mediterranean pizza was so salty, it was inedible. The salad? Romaine and a light sprinkle of Parmesan, for $30. I would absolutely skip this next go round. Disappointing for the area. read more

Beautiful patio seating overlooking the golf course, excellent service, fresh cold salads, and tasty cocktails! The rest of the food was mediocre at best. The appetizer and entrees, fried mozzarella and chicken parmigiana, tasted like they came from my freezer! The dessert, Tiramisu, had a delicious mascarpone filling, but the hard, dry ladyfingers took away from the entire dessert. Talk about southern hospitality. We had a big group that progressively got bigger. The owner was super nice and very accommodating. He pulled up extra chairs, brought menus over, and asked periodically if we were okay with our seating. I didn't eat, but the drinks were well made and had a variety of signature drinks to pick from. Server continued to say, "thanks for your patience". Salads good. Main courses palatable. Patience was really needed when server took off with our bill & credit cards for 30minutes. Due to Covid, seating was outdoor only and we had a beautiful view of the Turtle Bay golf course. The chicken parmigiana and pasta bolognese were excellent. Service was attentive and super friendly. Wonderful selection of good quality dishes so everyone will be happy. Really enjoyed all the house made pastas and "baked" goodies, e.g. breads. Definitely worth the drive out to Kiawah. We came here while staying on Kiawah with some friends on Memorial Day weekend. It was a nice spot, fancy and your typical golf club decor. We didn't go until like 8 and later found out they closed at 9 which is probably why it was clearing out. Either way, we still had a nice time. I ordered some rum drink to start, it was good, but a little sweeter than I had hoped for. We also started with calamari and the antipasto plate. Both were good, but pretty average. I had the lemon risotto and scallops for my main meal. It was good but was missing something in the flavor, maybe salt? I'm not sure. My bf got the veal and I liked it better than mine. Our friends each got the bolognese and the pancetta warped pork. They were both happy with their selections, but I didn't try either. For dessert we got the panna cotta which was very good. There aren't a lot of places to dine on Kiawah and this place is "A-OK" for some typical Italian fare. read more

This is my first Yelp review ever, but this place was so bad, I created an account just to rate Tomasso. I'm from Charleston, so maybe I'm just spoiled, but the food was horrible. Our server was great and very apologetic for the crappy food... We dropped over $200 on a cheap bottle of wine, no desert, and some below average entrees. The Frito Misto (seafood platter app) was the ONLY saving grace. We spend a lot of time at Seabrook and ventured over the Tomasso for dinner. The food wasn't worth the price. The ravioli, stuffed with ground beef, was dry and Stouffer's has a better "lasagna". It's Kiawah, so you're a captive audience, but I would recommend going elsewhere... Venture off the island and experience a much better dining environment. read more

The quality of the food is high. We had scallops, tagliatelle, and eggplant Parmesan. There is no doubt the food is good. The biggest issue this evening was the server who was overwhelmed. Additionally, the drinks we ordered took a very long time to come out. We got our appetizers at the same time as our drink order. We had a reservation and weren't seated until 35 minutes after the reservation time. Also, the single room in the restaurant had terrible acoustics and the whole evening was a low rumble of noise. We had a hard time even talking at our table, and overheard others in the restaurant commenting on the noise as well. While all resort restaurants are expensive, I was surprised that the inconsistency of the food at this restaurant. The best part was the appetizer Fritto Misto, that I had which was fried calamari, fried shrimp and fried fish. It was really really good. My wife and I both order the filet. Hers was really good but mine was tough. I could not understand that the same cut of meat would be so different. She could cut hers with a fork and mine you had to put a lot of effort on the steak knife. The cheese cake I got for desert was just OK and I would not order it again. Since dinner took three hours, the food had better be good. And it was, for the most part. The tomato soup was warm and savory. The calamari was very crisp,yet tender, with a lovely sauce and the welcome addition of hot peppers. The wild mushroom agnolotti was wildly delicious. The blue cheese was creamy goodness, and I wish I knew the source, as I would have bought a pound or five of it! The scallops were cooked well, and my husband loved the risotto and cauliflower. He enjoyed his tiramisu, but I was not crazy about the cannolli. The filling was acceptable, but the pastry shell was more savory than sweet. It took over two hours to receive our entrees. We were a large group and the waitress should have been assigned to our tables only. Instead, she had other tables to cover, which I am sure resulted in some unhappy customers at those tables, too. Inconsistent service seems to be a character trait of the restaurants in the resort. Also, this particular restaurant is insanely noisy. Don't expect a romantic dinner for two or prompt service. Dinner for four of us while staying at Kiawah Island resort in late July. Reservations at 7:30 and seated quickly by a nice hostess. Server was overworked with 5 tables. He had little knowledge of the menu items and we had some long waits between his visits. Bread service was tasty, hot and room temp butter! Only a 15 min wait for the bread was a pain. Wine service was slow. One diet coke (pepsi) ordered and we received a root beer. A manager came by to ask about our night and we asked her to fix the root beer problem. Pretty easy, but she disappeared an our root beer remained! Four different entrees from the main menu were average to good with a 25-30 min wait. Not what you expect from such a pricey golf resort. Clearly the cook staff was overworked and understaffed, strange on a Friday night. Many tables were without food for long periods and some had to turn back plates for incorrect items or preparation. Overall nice atmosphere and decor at Tomasso. Management needs to work on staffing and training to get this place up to par. read more

We decided to try an Italian gig while staying at Kiawah and got a reservation at Tomasso's. The food was good, I had the veal with a calamari starter and enjoyed them both. Everyone else had more food than they could eat, but seemed satisfied with the quality. What made this the difference between a 3 and a 4 for me? It was simply their homemade Lemoncello in their drinks - if your a Lemoncello fan, you simply have to order one of their drinks Lemoncello in it! A little pricy, but worth every penny. So last year we are here and I would have rated it a 5... this year it was disappointing. The service was slow and less attentive. The food and drinks took a while. We finished a dessert sharing a spoon while waiting for more spoons to arrive (we said we were gonna share when we ordered). The worst though was that some of the seafood I ate in the Tarratelle (spelling?) tasted a little off and I spent the next several hours vomiting from food poisoning. This had been our family's favorite restaurant on the island. Now I'm not even sure if we'll return. Very disappointing. read more

The description of 2 stars is "meh. I've experienced better." It's a good description. The food could be amazing, but it's sloppy. Too much sauce. Too much salt. Too overcooked. It feels like a talented chef who's bored or preparing for a banquet. What a shame. The pricing, however, is for a 4 or 5-star restaurant. $250 for 4 people with a mediocre bottle of wine. Well, we read all the reviews and thought some were unfairly negative and decided to go anyways. Boy what a mistake. For an Italian restaurant we were all disappointed, and would have preferred to have gone to Panera. The lobster mac and cheese was nothing more than pasta in alfredo sauce with caned lobster thrown on top. The chicken parm was flavorless with zero sauce and the Marsala was fatty and had gristle, along with being rubbery. Somehow even the mushrooms were rubbery. Finally got around to writing a review for Tomasso! My friends and I were in town for the 1/2 marathon last December and decided to make this our pre-race dinner. The food was awesome! They also were very accomodating in modifying one of the dishes for us to make it a little more "night before a long run" friendly! Awesome staff and wonderful food! Best lobster & pasta dish that my wife ever had. I loved the orchietta. Service was great and not too outrageous

I am sad to say that overall I didn't really enjoy our experience at Tomasso. I know it is a resort type restaurant and expected the high prices, but also expected better quality food. We had a large party, 5 kids and 5 adults. The kids fared OK, though the penne pasta was no better than Olive Garden. The heirloom tomato and mozzarella sure didn't look like Heirloom tomatoes, more like bland hothouse. So that was disappointing. The chicken Milanese was nothing special, and I was most disappointed with my dish, the scallops with past carbonara. To say it had scallops was a joke. I have had small bay scallops, but these were minuscule! Tiny pebbles of scallop. I was so disappointed I didn't really eat it. The only reason I give it two stars is the staff. For a reason I cant explain, the kids got their food, and maybe 30 minutes later, the rest of the dishes came. The kids had been done 10 minutes before the first dish arrived. Of all the adult dishes, the only one that got high marks was the ravioli. They did take my dish off the bill, and gave us some free desserts to take home as well. Our server was nice and attended to us, so, one star for food and one extra for the service. We love Kiawah, but Tomasso is now off our restaurant list. read more

A truly horrific experience - from the minute we walked in until the minute we left. Which is 75 minutes of my life I won't get back. Service was abysmal and the food marginally below that. The chef that offers up Pork Parmigiana in an Italian Restraunt should be ashamed. The Antipasto came with strawberries and salted almonds for a truly unique sleight on Italian food. The only redeeming quality was the sheer entertainment value of the family at the next table whose son clearly felt the food was as bad as we thought and chose to eat the contents of his nose for 5 minutes.
