    I had a great first visit to Tomatillos. First, I was impressed by our service: our server was sincerely friendly and attentive, and food came out quickly (but not too quick-- never felt rushed). The menu is extensive with all the expected traditional Mexican dishes and some unique offerings too. I liked the extensive seafood aspect of their menu, with offerings like salmon tacos and crab queso dip (which you don't see at every other Mexican restaurant). I ordered a margarita and the seafood enchiladas, which were delicious. Portions over the top. I also thought the price was very reasonable. Overall, a good experience and I look forward to going back.

I walked in, I was standing at the hosted stand, waited for literally 5 minutes, I almost turn around and walk out, how do you let a customer standing at the front for 5 minutes? Since it was my first time, I'm not sure do I seat myself or someone will come up and help me seated. I saw 1 waitress working, she was pouring drinks for a table of 8-10 people, for a bit, i seriously thought she's the only one working at the front. Finally, another waitress came out from the back. I seated, already not happy with the service for a first time customer. The other waitress came, asked me what I like to drink. I looked over the menu, and read some the options, seem like the popular dish is the $12.99 lunch bowl, waitress came back, no drink. Asked me ready? Help yourself. Huh? I'm like no I'm not ready, where is my drink? I seriously wanted to walk out. I'm like okay, give it a chance. She came back with my drink, asked me again, I told her, I never been here, how is this work? She said you can take the $12.99 lunch special, or you can do the special combo, which includes drink, appetizer and I think the California roll for $19.99. I told her just do the $12.99, and she told me take this empty bowl and go get my own food, they cook it for you. I'm still very confused, they give you a card, write down your name and your table number. So I'm thinking maybe I take the card with me, I took whatever I like to eat, and leave the card with my bowl for the cook. After few minutes, I was t really sure, do I go get the food myself or the server going to bring the food to me? Very confusing, I read the other Yelppies wrote the server is very helpful to her, but I gotta say, not at all during my visit. I love that they have brown rice as an option for the base! The chicken and veggies in my bowl were cooked nicely and were abundant! The brown rice was a little greasy but the meat and veg were not. I got the Hibachi sauce and it was tasty! We also ordered one order of steamed gyoza and one order of fried gyoza. The fried ones were deep fried which was a surprise because the picture on the menu looked as though they were pan fried. I really enjoyed the steamed one! We will definitely order again! They have a huge menu and I'm excited to add some sushi to our next round!

I came here on a cold March evening with my colleagues for a team dinner after a two-day conference. My co-worker was kind enough to tell the restaurant we were celebrating my birthday, so they had decorated our table with some cute birthday confetti and had a card for me. Such a nice touch! I wish I had thought to take pics, but I was so exhausted. Now, on to the food! We got calamari for the table as a starter. It was sprinkled with feta, which I enjoyed. It was cooked nicely and had great flavor. Oddly, we got served butter and sour cream instead of the black pepper aioli and voodoo sauce that was supposed to come with it. Thankfully, they realized it and brought us the right sauces. For my main, I got the Blackened Seared Scallops, a really unique dish that came topped with pork belly and served on creamed corn with tomato jam and bourbon syrup. This leaned to the sweet side but the smoky flavor of the pork belly gave great balance to the delicate scallops and the sweetness. And that bourbon syrup was addictive. I cleaned my plate! I would definitely recommend this dish if you like a sweet/savory combo. None of us ordered drinks or dessert on this go-around, but the manager stopped by to chat with us. Again, really nice touch. One slightly worrying thing: one of my colleagues is allergic to mushrooms. He ordered something that didn't mention mushrooms on the menu, but it was on the plate. Thankfully he noticed it before he started eating and they remade it for him without mushrooms. So if you have food allergies, be sure to ask questions because it may include an ingredient the menu doesn't mention. That said, our servers were wonderful and it was an overall pleasant experience.

While there were a few minor service issues, our server was kind and attentive and acknowledged the celebration with complimentary desserts, which we truly appreciated. After dinner, my cousin and I went to wash our hands and use the restroom. At the time, all stalls were occupied and one was out of service, so we waited. When a stall opened, my cousin kindly let me go first. I finished and stood outside the stalls waiting for her for about three minutes. During that time, I noticed several people going in and out of the restroom area. I also saw a man sitting in a chair along the hallway wall near the stalls, hunched over. Shortly after, a woman exited the restroom and grabbed him to leave. I thought nothing of it and minded my own business. I also observed the executive chef enter one of the restroom stalls. When my cousin exited, she mentioned that the stall smelled strongly of smoke and that three girls had exited the stall before she entered. She said the stall smelled like marijuana but used it only because it was the only option available. She also pointed out that the man sitting outside appeared to be associated with the group who had been in the stall. We then returned to our patio table where our family was seated. Our server brought out her birthday pie along with another complimentary dessert. She blew out the candle, we shared dessert, and we began preparing to leave. A few minutes later, while we were still seated on the patio, the general manager, Nick Krafft, approached our table accompanied by Executive Chef Michael Wagner. We initially assumed he was checking in on our experience. Instead, he immediately stated, "I'm going to have to ask you not to smoke in our restaurant and bathroom," directing the accusation at my cousin and me. We were completely taken aback by both the accusation and the manner in which it was delivered. We calmly explained that it was not us and described exactly what we had observed in the restroom. We stated that neither of us smoke and never have. We even offered to have our belongings checked and explained that we had not taken any jackets or purses with us to the restroom, as our family remained at the table. Despite this, the general manager refused to listen or consider our explanation and continued to place blame on us. He did not speak to our server, who had interacted with us just moments earlier while bringing out the birthday dessert, nor did he attempt to investigate further or de-escalate the situation. As we were leaving, my fiancé asked the general manager if he actually smelled smoke on either of us. He responded "yes," which was not true, and continued to push a conclusion he had already formed. No apology was offered. We spent over $1,000 celebrating a family birthday at a restaurant we had trusted and enjoyed in the past. Instead, the evening ended with my cousin's birthday being overshadowed by an unfounded accusation. There were many guests dining that evening, yet blame was placed solely on two women who had simply used the restroom. I am a Nurse Practitioner, and my cousin is a special education teacher for autistic children. Neither of us have ever smoked. Being accused in this manner was humiliating, hurtful, and completely unnecessary. I was later contacted by the regional manager, who was understanding. However, I believe this situation highlights the need for better investigation, accountability, and staff training to prevent similar experiences in the future. A personal apology from Nick, acknowledging his actions and taking accountability, would be an appropriate step forward after innocent guests were wrongly blamed and a birthday celebration was ruined.
