Cute little sandwich/salad shop tucked away in a little "inlet" of the newly refurbished Pavillions Shopping Center (on Ventura Blvd....but not facing it....right near Corbin). For some of you, it's in the same center where Shalom House is. :) It's a very tiny place. Their method for ordering, because of the smallness of the place, is kind of problematic especially with lunch hour crowds, BUT.... it's do-able. Everyone makes due. If Tomato Patch become too popular, well, I don't know if it'll work, but for now, it's okay. The food is VERY fresh, and they serve good-sized portions, as well. Of greater importance to me is their item-to-item ratio, i.e., like how much chicken to lettuce ratio does one really get in a caesar salad. They do not skimp, and for all salad ingredients NOT lettuce, there are generous portions of everything, especially the chicken, tuna, egg, or whatever one has ordered. I had a piece of chicken in every single bite I took, and I didn't have to cut the pieces smaller, nor did I have to negotiate my way through the salad to find it. Lots of sundried tomatoes, cucumber, olives, feta cheese, as well. There was also tzatziki and a smattering of hummus (the "surprise" elements in this Mediterranean "Surprise" Salad). My issue? The salad dressing. They did nothing wrong, but their version of dressing and mine just don't equate. They squeezed a generous portion of lemon juice and olive oil on this salad, which, for me, sent fear running through my body. I was certain I'd hate it. No herbs, no spices....just juice and oil? Yuck.... I thought. Plus, I like thicker dressings, i.e., caesar or ranch. If it's oil based, it'd better have lots and lots of flavor, i.e. seasonings. Well, because of the tzatziki, hummus and feta cheese, it added flavor, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but it still wasn't my favorite. THAT was my fault, not theirs. They were just so busy that when they said what it came with, I felt weird asking them to switch it out. That's so NOT how I wanted to handle it, but I did it anyway. Very nice ladies scrambling in a very intense, methodical furor to get their orders completed and done timely....I was simply afraid of rocking that. It was just my own weirdness in the moment. I will step up next time I go....and I will go back. Way healthy stuff, and they had a lot of things to try....sandwich and salad wise. I almost forgot.....my favorite iced tea on earth.....Blackberry Jasmine Green Iced Tea. The best. Another Yelp find for me (there is no other way!)......give it a try yourself !! read more

The ladies that work here are super friendly. I've only tried several items on the menu, but I think my favorite is the yum yum salad. It has kale, goat cheese, dried cranberries and I get a scoop of tuna with balsamic dressing on the side. Came here after reading all the great reviews. First off, this place is tucked away in a shopping center and there is very little signage. Met a friend for lunch here. The place is small and there are two sides, one for take out and the other for dining in. There are tables outside where you can sit and enjoy the sun. This place is a hidden jewel! It's been here for a long time and I never even knew it. My mom and I had lunch there today and we shared the large Italian chopped salad (we could have shared the small - it was so much salad!!) and we shared the avocado and cheese sandwich (w/ sprouts, tomato and mayo/mustard) Everything tasted great! I ordered the half soup half sandwich combo debating between that or the soup+sandwich+salad combo. I got tomato soup with a turkey sandwich while my mom got chicken noodle soup with a tuna sandwich. Both combos were tasty. They have many other options and the portions are filling. Great prices too. The staff is very friendly and you can tell that they care about their customers and serving quality food. You can call for any questions - I called ahead and they were extremely helpful. They even offered to have the food ready by the time we got there. We decided to wait but it was prepared quickly nonetheless. Remember to return the plastic holders after you're done eating. Was looking for a lunch spot yesterday and found this hidden little gem on Yelp. This is an example of when social media can help a business, because regardless of how many times I have driven past this shopping center on Ventura Blvd, there is no way I would have ever seen this place. Once in the parking lot, I still had to really look to find it...and what a find it was! This is not some gourmet cafe...it's a simple salad and sandwich shop that does it right. On the front of their little menu it says, "Fresh & Healthy Food with Friendly Service." That is EXACTLY what this place is! A simple mission statement, executed to perfection. I walked in and was surprised by how small the place is. 4 or 5 tiny tables for 2 and a counter looking into the kitchen to place your order. There are more and larger tables outside in a shaded courtyard. The first thing I noticed was the friendliness of the women who work there. I looked into the kitchen and there were 4 women chatting away as they made salads and sandwiches...this seemed like the scene from a typical family gathering. So I am assuming this is a family owned and run business. They were crazy nice, but it was totally genuine. They were happy to be working there and happy that I chose to eat there. The menu is simple...Salads and Sandwiches, but plenty of choices without overwhelming you. The sandwiches are all priced between $5 and $6 and the salads are mostly between $5 and $9. They have a good selection of sodas and juices in cans and bottles, also reasonably priced. Sodas are $1. The also have soups and a few Mediterranean sides orders. I ordered the Special Chopped Tuna Avocado Egg. This is one of the only 2 salads on the menu that costs more than $9. In fact is was $9.50 and it is a great value. It's a large salad of mixed greens, with black olives, tomato, garbanzo beans, cucumber, and topped with fresh avocado slices, a scoop of tuna, and a scoop of egg salad. It also comes with pita bread. There was definitely a feeling of freshness about this salad. The greens were crisp and cold, the tuna and egg salad were light and gave me my protein fix, plus I satisfied my need for at least some carbs with the pita bread...LOL. This was a really nice and healthy lunch for around $11 including a fancy Italian Limonada Soda. Then as I was about to leave, one of the women working there said, "wait...let me give you a little dessert." With that she gave me a little cup of frozen yogurt. Very nice and classy touch! This place is a gem, that was apparent when I ordered my veggie sandwich one earlier morning. YUMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! I love that they cut and wrap the sandwich separately. I know its picky of me, but I normally eat half a sandwich and well this way that other half is nice and safe and gets to live another hour or so. It was my best friends turn to choose a spot to eat at. She had been raving about a place that was close to her work and had awesome reviews. She said that they serve cheap and healthy lunches. It has a nice tang to it, which all good tuna salad possesses. The vegetables such as the carrots and cucumbers are fresh and tasty. At less than 8 dollars, it is an incredible value. Also good are the Chicken and Greek salad. If you are in the mood for a sandwich, I would recommend the Tuna or Veggie sandwich. The only bad thing about the Tomato Patch is that it is not closer to where I live! Stopped by after an appointment with my wife the other day. First thing I want to mention is the people that work there are SO nice and helpful. Then the menu is loaded with all kinds of good stuff. Had a hard time deciding what to get. Decided on the lentil soup and tuna salad sandwich on egg bread. My wife ordered the combo of Greek salad, lentil soup and half tuna sandwich. It was all so delicious. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and my wife an ice tea. Both are brewed in house. Everything they serve seems to be made in house.
