Love the pizza and would have given 5 stars for the food. Two weeks ago went to pick up a pizza. Sitting in my car, watched the cook cut up my pizza, NO MASK, sent it out and the kid wore the mask over the mouth, not over nose, and no gloves (a young lady bringing them out had both on correctly) To the OWNER: love your food, but you need to assure safety of handling food for me to order again. I am a physician with lots of medical friends who order from you and was appalled at the lack or ignorance of PPE on your people Addendum: I went back a few weeks later. Kid cutting my pizza with mask on, under his nose. Kid delivering my pizza with NO mask. I said I wouldn'ttake it unless he gets a mask. I really wanted to like this Tomatoes Apizza location, but there were just too many issues with our pizzas last Friday evening, 01/10/20. Don't get me wrong, the pizzas were okay, which is one of the reasons why I gave three stars, but I'm still having trouble understanding how they got voted "Best Pizza in Michigan" and "One of 25 Best Pizzas in the US." Some buddies and I go to their location at 14 Mile and Middlebelt on our lunch break for their $10 all you can eat pizza buffet and we love that. The pizzas are usually decent with some good options for toppings and they feature a salad bar with fresh ingredients and a pop is included in the price. I called in a carry out order at the location on Woodward near Maple and I clearly should have done more due diligence because when I was told the cost of my two large pizzas was $58, I was in shock. That's a lot of money for pizza. The first pizza had black olives and pepperoni and the second pizza had Italian sausage, onions & mushrooms. So that means that the five toppings cost about $19. I was told that the pizzas would take about fifteen minutes to cook, which is what I gave them, but they weren't ready when I arrived. The man who greeted me was super nice and friendly, which is part of the reason why I gave three stars instead of two, but I had to sit and wait another ten minutes to get my pizzas. I told him about how much my buddies and I loved the buffet at the other location and he said they have the all you can eat buffet too, but it's $8 and it doesn't include a drink. I was confused how they could do that because there were only three tables and hardly any space in the waiting area. While I waited for my food I watched four workers converse while one of them turned my pizza in the oven. I don't want to micro-manage anyone, but it just seemed odd that they had so much time to talk while another customer and I were waiting for our orders. The nice man brought out my pizzas in large boxes and they were piping hot, which was awesome. When I got home I opened the boxes so my family could eat dinner and the slices were in odd shapes-giant rectangles and trapezoids. That's not a complaint by any means, but it was a noticeable difference compared to slices I have seen with other square and round pizzas. The large pizzas were in the shape of squares with round corners. The toppings were big pieces of vegetables and meats and there were a lot of toppings, which I appreciated, but I think they under-cooked the Italian sausage before they put it in their prep station. The Italian sausage left way too much grease on the pizza. It was almost unbearable. The cheese on the pizzas was okay and I was hoping for a crispy crust, but it was soft and wet in some spots. I mean, these were thin crust Brooklyn-style pizzas, so a crunch on your crust is required. The restaurant was extremely clean, which is a huge deal for me, but I just can't get past the monumental price of $58 for two large pizzas. We ended up with a lot of leftovers, so the amount of food we got for $58 made sense, but the quality was not even close to "Best Pizza in Michigan" and "One of 25 Best Pizzas in the US." I could have spent $10 less at Crispeli's and received better pizzas. I will still be a regular for hte lunch buffet at the location at Middlebelt and 14 Mile, but I don't think I will be coming back to this location for pizza. There are just too many better restaurants in my opinion. read more

We've been going to the Tomatoes location in Farmington for years, so we were very excited to have a location right down the street now. This location is take out only, though there is a table or two inside. They serve up slices at lunchtime, with combo deals with a slice & salad & pop. I went to Sally's in New Haven ages ago, and Tomatoes brings back memories - a huge pie, thin crust, really good red sauce, and just the right amount of cheese. They have a coal oven here, so the pies cook up really nice. My personal favorite is the white pizza, it doesn't have tomato sauce but has tomato slices, and garlic! I also like the Caesar salad, their dressing is the real thing - haven't asked but I get hints of anchovies, and also plenty of garlic, just delicious. My brother in law from Florence gives Tomatoes his highest approval, it's our first stop when he comes in to visit. Good service, excellent product, highly recommended! read more

As a patron of Tomatoes at 14 mile for the past 15 years I'm so glad to have this new location that is closer to home. We always get a classic with sausage and mushroom and it was cooked to perfection and seemed way more generous with the sausage. My family and I love this pizza and feel very lucky to have it in Mi. We have been to Frank Pepe's and Sally's Apizza in Connecticut and feel this pizza is in this league of the best pizzarias in the US. For us the blend of the flavors is a symphony of taste for your mouth. The crisp crunch and chewy crust created by cooking in the coal fired oven is phenomenal! I ordered tonight for delivery. The prompt said there is a $4 delivery fee but that is not the tip. So I gave a 30% tip and paid by credit card. Driver came and I said; "I already tipped right?" He said no there is no tip. So, I gave him another $10.00 tip. Later checked and of course there was a tip so unsure if the driver was not informed, company doesn't give him the money or other. All in, I just paid $47.00 for a pizza and it cost $20 for delivery!? Pizza was good but no pizza is worth $47! Happy to see people working and businesses operating but I don't think what occurred is right. read more

Really good pizza! I wish it was a little hotter, but honestly stellar place and definitely recommend.

Spaghetti with meatballs is very good...not overly sweet, like many sauces, but rather flavorful in a mild, natural way. Leave it overnight in the fridge and the flavors pop even more! The half size is plenty big, with three or four meatballs. And the garlic bread is delicious as well. Everything is fresh, flavorful with large portions. read more

One of my favorite pizza in town! I love simple wood fire pizza, so I ordered a traditional Margherita pizza, and one with pepperoni and sausage. DELICIOUS!! The staff is friendly, and is fun to watch them build your pizza and fire in the wood oven. Pizza was cooked fast, we checked the market next door while they cooked for us. I got take out from here when they first opened and they told me 30 min for my pizza to be ready, when I got there 30 min later they hadn't even started making my pizza and I had to sit there for another 30 min.... but they were busy and new so I figured it would get better. Months and months later I decided to try it again and THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I called and was told 30 minutes and when I arrived 30 minutes later I paid and waited about 5 minutes and then asked when my pizza would be ready and was told they hadn't started making it yet!! So now I'm sitting in my car for another 30 minutes. Staff was rude and unprepared. Normally I like woodfire pizzas but feel they're over priced for how much pizza you get vs the price. My wife prefers woodfire and I prefer hand tossed or deeper dish. I had a coworker recommend tomatoes. It's a great compromise, it's woodfire style but a large is much larger than your average woodfire pizza. We got the large Naples Sampler where each 1/4 is a different style. For the 1/4 of our choice I chose pepperoni. I liked 3 of 4 styles, the only one that I didn't like was the "green" with heavy spinach, mozzarella, and garlic. Luckily my wife loves spinach on everything and the green was her favorite. Had delivery from Birmingham, Michigan location for an adult birthday party. Several pizzas, salads, cheese bread & chocolate desert delivered on time and still hot from the oven. Love this east coast New Haven styled pizza you can't get at many places away fro the east coast. The char from the coal really makes this pizza special! The barstool President who graduated from UofM gave Tomatoes the highest score in Michigan back in February 2021...great to see that @daveportnoy has great taste in great pizza too! So, I've been a Tomatoes Apizza fan for years. My family and I order delivery from the 14/Middlebelt location probably 3x a month with an average ticket of $40. I work in Birmingham. I stopped here to grab a slice as I occasionally do when I am short on time. Sometimes the pizzas are fresh, sometimes they've been sitting there. Every time I've ever asked for a slice to be thrown in the oven for a minute or two, I am always met with resistance and told the slices just came out - even when they clearly haven't. Most of the time, there aren't any other customers there waiting, so that's not the issue. Today though - let me just tell you. I walk in and ask for 2 slices. The worker rings me up while still wearing his food safety gloves. He completes the entire checkout process with his gloves still on. I've worked in food. GLOVES COME OFF to ring a customer and GET CHANGED before handling food again. Anyway, I take the slices without causing a commotion, very turned off, deciding in my mind that I'm just going to toss them when I leave. I get in my car and take a phone call. I'm sitting there for about 5 minutes. The same guy walks out of the employee exit STILL WEARING THE GLOVES holding a pizza in box in one hand, which he puts in is car - I'm assuming for delivery. In the OTHER HAND, HE IS EATING A SLICE FOR HIMSELF. People, this was all done using the same gloves he handles your food with. Think about how many surfaces this person touched, and then touched your food. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I showed up with my sons today after 13 hours of work hoping I could have a nice dinner with the family. We put our name in and we're told it would be 30 min which seemed ok. However, that was not the case, we checked again and the hostess said 10 minutes after 20 min had passed. Then when two tables freed up she sat the party of two at the table for four and gave the table for 2 to the other party of two. After an hour had passed and we were still the only ones waiting she came and said what was your name? And then said ok, next table that frees up, I will seat you. After another 30 minutes I went and told her it seems every table has just started to order and doesn't seem likely it would be anytime soon so we'll take our name off the list. She replied, I'm waiting for a table big enough to seat three people. I was shocked, she obviously sat her friends that were two at the table we should have been given vs the table for two. She had no regard and didn't even care that she had made us wait for an hour and half and no apology or acknowledgment that she specifically did the wrong thing. Horrible hostess, worse customer experience and service I've ever experienced and had would never go back there for any reason and whoever I come across I will tell them about this place and their hostess and her lackluster attitude towards customers. read more

Once again, this location has some serious kitchen problems. I ordered a pizza and salad online and received an email confirming the order and an expected delivery time of 8:01. At 8:00, I received a phone call stating that there was a delay and it would be deliverd in about 30 minutes (8:30 ish). I called them at 8:45 to inquire about my order. After a short hold I was told that it would arrive any minute. Two minutes later it arrived. The driver first handed me a $20 off coupon for my next (?!) order then handed me my order. Its like they screw up so ofter that they have these coupons pre printed and ready to go. It should not take an hour and 45 minutes for a simple pizza order on a Wednesday night. And I dont want $20 off my next order when this one should have been free . Oh yea, because I ordered online, I included a tip, which I would not have done had I paid in cash. Wont do that again. This is the second time this exact scenaro has happeded to me. I cant be the only one this has happened to, so I wonder how they stay in business. I was looking for a new carry out pizza place from my usual on friday nights, and so I went onto yelp and checked out some local carry out places. I stumbled across this place hoping for a good treat and decided to give it a call for a large 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 cheese pizza(my usual). The man who answered the phone was so kind and careful with my order, it was very nice to have good customer service from the other pizza shops.
