Located in the Courtyard (Marriott) Hotel, only a stone's throw from Lake Champlain and close to the center of Burlington, VT, the restaurant sits just off the lobby. I made a dinner reservation and we was seated by the window with a view of the park with the lake beyond. Off to a good start. My Dirty Martini was spot-on. The perfect balance of Tito's and brine. Only missing the 'bleu' cheese olives. I often order a second appetizer as my entree. My starter was carpaccio that was outstanding. The microgreens were a nice touch. The mussels (appetizer) that I chose for my main course were small in size but ample in portion and were the perfect choice for me. My husband chose the cheese platter for his starter. It was disappointing. Two slices of bleu cheese. Should have been three different ones for $15. And no VT cheddar? Not much imagination here. His Steak Frites was OK; the quality of the beef could have been better. We shared the spinach watermelon salad which was fresh and delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Overall, we liked this restaurant and will return.

I've been coming to Koto since I was a kid and always enjoyed the pomp and circumstance. If you…read morehave kids or a special occasion it's definitely worth considering and doing the hibachi "show" and trying to catch some of those flying veggies in your mouth. Service is also quick and I think food is dependably pretty good. I like that the grill meals come with salad (dressing is quite tasty) and soup and that portions are very generous for whatever you get hibachi wise. I got the sea scallops and steak combo. They had heard salmon but didn't have any issue when I clarified on my intended order and ended up getting both. Everything was delicious and it's nice that the meal, which can be meat heavy, also comes with a good amount of veggies. One of my kids had their own version of the hibachi and enjoyed their salmon while the other one got the teriyaki non-hibachi, which has a slightly different flavor. We also shared some sake bottles and nigiri. Maybe it shouldn't come as a surprise that our bill as a family of four was over $150 without tip, but it does make going out to Koto more than once or twice a year tough. I noticed the same items for their lunch menus were considerably cheaper so that might be the play if you are flexible timing wise.

Poor service and mediocre food. Really that sums up the whole experience…read more Our server Jeff took our drink order in a rushed fashion and then Was off. While we waited for our drinks to arrive, we all perused the menu for last minute additions and there was Jeff asking to take our appetizer and food order. Maybe he was trying to be efficient but really, it was just rushed. Didn't see him for a longer than usual wait and then drinks, soups and salads came altogether and our 'chef' arrived and started setting up. Jeff returned and when we asked a question of him, his answer was curt (rude really) like he expected us to know the answer. He never returned to fill up empty water glasses, ask for drink refills etc. This was supposed to be a celebratory night, several birthdays in our party of 6. Getting him to show up and be helpful without attitude was like pulling teeth and his customer service skills were lacking and felt like he was doing us a favor waiting on us. The food was mediocre at best. Our hibachi orders comprised of upcharged Filets with seafood. And while I don't mind paying a premium, I should get the premium food to go along with that price, sadly all of the steaks were overcooked and the seafood was dry and rubbery, tough to chew! Two of the guests actually spit out the seafood as inedible. The steaks were ordered either rare or medium and sadly, everyone got well-done. The seafood was left on the cooktop far too long as well! Overall, the experience lacked the enthusiasm of someone happy that we were there paying bills. At $450 I expected much more. I've had better meals here, this was not one of them! Not really interested in returning any time soon.
