Short review. Had high hopes for Tommy D's. This place gets good reviews. Went in on a Sunday around 8:30. Didn't realize the place closes early. The service was good but they basically wouldn't serve us food. Strange setup to have a live band playing literally right before they were closing. SMASHBURGER! I had to fight my way through HALF of it before I gave up. Althouh an attractive and a nice presentation, it was like eating a Salt block! I've always had good luck with the food here. I think it's usually very delicious. Last week I ordered the turkey tips and they are delicious! I am so surprised I haven't reviewed this place as it's one of my favorite local places to eat, drink, watch sports, check out bands etc. Parking is never a problem. They have 2 entrances. One to pick up any takeout and 1 for the restaurant. The bartenders are the nicest people. Service is always excellent. Food Is always great. Scallops, pizza, meatloaf, mashed potatoes all delicious. Also, they have green beans that are always cooked to perfection. Never soggy. They have lottery/Keno here. Popcorn machine to pass out hot fresh popcorn. Bands on the weekends. This is one of my favorite local eateries. Service is great. The portions are huge. The salads are freshly prepared and will feed two easily. I usually get my meal and fill a to-go box knowing that I can't finish it. My go to is the BLT on sour dough with home made onion rings. No frozen beer-battered here. Thank goodness. I've been a customer of Doyle's for over 30 years. I started with them when a cousin started working there in the 80s. I loved the place. I moved to Brockton years ago and became a frequent patron of the E. Ashland location. The food and service was awesome and I chose them for the repast after one of my brothers passed. I stopped going here when I noticed that every other time I went there were new staff and they even seemed to get short with the customers. I went from a happy 25+% tipper to a disgruntled 15% tipper. Then I stopped going. Recently I became a Sunday patron of the Oak St. Location and again, at first the food and service was great. It started to go down hill though where again, staff turnover and just the attitude of whatever overworked staff was there was horrible. Today, our waitress appeared frustrated when we didn't know what we wanted for our exact order and just seemed to be extremely rushed. We ordered an additional dish to bring home for the kid and when it was opened we saw that the green beans were barely cooked and still had the stems on them. We called and asked if they could accommodate 20 family members and they set up a back section for us with our own waitress Emily , who was super nice , professional and put up with a family with a baby, little kids , teenagers and older adults ! To start, it's 10:44 on a Friday night. We called the restaurant, no answer, but the recording said come in to dine in. We go to the restaurant, we were ignored by the bar staff. Finally a server.comes to tell us it's appetizers and pizza only and that we can get it to go. So we go toothed bar expecting our order to be then and the bartender said we can only have fiodnif we sit and drink at the bar. My bf and I are both in recovery him 22 years and me 22 months. Not friendly to all people, and what if you aren't 21, do they let them sit at the bar to eat? Besides being unfriendly and unprofessional we were told completely different information from 3 different employees, including their answering service. Not quite sure what to make of this place. Everything was great except our main meal. My husband and I came here for lunch after hearing good things. I liked that we were served popcorn as soon as we sat down at the bar. I ordered a burger and my husband ordered a chicken sandwich. As soon as the food came out of the kitchen, we both commented on how all of a sudden it smelled like something was burning. The smell got stronger & stronger as they brought the plates over to us. Both of our sandwiches were charbroiled to a crisp. I only took a few bites before giving up. The burnt taste was too overwhelming, not to mention I ordered it medium-rare and it came out much past medium-well. However, the fries were great! Crunchy on the outside, soft and hot on the inside. We had a fantastic lunch! Brendan was our waiter and he did a good job. He was fast and friendly. The food was the star though. We had 2 lobster rolls and a steak tip dinner, fries, tater tots and cole slaw. It was all delicious! The lobster rolls, $22, were BIG and absolutely delicious. The lobster meat was so fresh. It was the best lobster roll I've had in a long time. The steak tips were cooked as ordered and it was a nice portion. It's a big wide open space here with lots of TVs and Keno. We will be back! Service was standard. My friend and I walked in because we wanted the twin lobster deal but our waitress told us they were out of lobster... bummer. I ordered the surf and turf dinner instead (steak and haddock). The haddock was great as well as the tartar sauce. The steak only came in 3 pieces and although they were large there were a little over cooked. Still tasty though. The mashed potatoes tasted instant but I'm not a mashed potato connoisseur lol. Ordered wings (bone in may have been dry rub), motz sticks, onion rings, clam plate, Mac and cheese and baked scallops. The chef, Ed, is such a nice person and really knows how to cook! After a random conversation with him during a visit to listen to a band, I mentioned how much I missed the Sidelines Chicken Supreme. A throwback to when Grandpa used to visit from FL and that was the go to item. Ed asked when I'd be in next and a few days later, sure enough I was enjoying Chicken Supreme that was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! It is a rare thing for someone to follow through with something casually discussed as he was not working but just happened to be enjoying his night off there. He whipped up a delicious supreme sauce that was far superior than standard restaurant fare. It included a wonderful combination of FRESH HERBS and seasoning. The chicken was filleted thin as I prefer it. It was accompanied by a heaping mound of creamy mashed potatoes with a choice of vegetable. I encourage everyone to give it a try... Our server Natalia (I hope that's correct...sorry) was delightful and very attentive as she spent her birthday serving her guests. She was also helpful in informing us of the weekday entertainment they offer when Boston sports teams weren't playing. My friends and I get together there about once a week for drinks and occasionally a meal. We all enjoyed what we ordered and will be coming back to eat there more often in addition to drinks in the future. They have really stepped up their food game quite a bit and are now offering a dessert selection to die for! read more

Went to Tommy Doyles east ashland restaurant today and ordered the corn beef and cabbage dinner, the turnip was hard as a rock and the cabbage and potato's were only half cooked. The plate it comes out on is too small and by the time you cut it all up, half of it is on the table. This sucks because most of the time the food here is great but you gotta call it out when it's lousy. We love going to this location and the staff is great but sometimes they just need to be reminded about some of their food! read more

I've been going to their establishment for many years. I have spent upwards of thousands of $ there. I have honestly never had a good meal there so I try to stick to the Appetizers and cocktails. I only go because my friends like the atmosphere. Last night I ordered buffalo wings with their new rub. I asked if they were really spicy because I'm 64 and can't tolerate spice like I used to, I was told no they weren't. My order came and I took two bites and my eyes watered and my tongue was on fire. I called waitress aside and asked her if I could return them. She said you can get plain with the sauce on the side (which she failed to mention earlier). She returned tell me the owner won't take the wings off my bill. Now to do that to a customer that frequents his place as often as I do is just plain rude. I've never sent anything back before. He is the rudest most unreasonable, ignorant business man to ever enter the restaurant business. His customers clearly do not come first. He has lost my business forever. I've been to all of the Tommy Doyle locations and they are amazingly consistently good. Since it is not Twin Lobster season which they are known for I dove into a Sandwich called Ed's Sandwich. This is one of the best Thanksgiving/Pilgrim/Day After sandwiches I've had for a while. The server Tatianna could not have been nicer and very funny!
