At the end of the "17 miles drive" (fantastic), we stopped by Carmel for lunch time. This small town is a very nice place to visit and if you want to combine the visit with a delicious meal, Tommy's Wok will make you travel to China for the time of your break! The Rolls are excellent as an appetizer. Chicken cashew was my choice and despite the quantity of food in my plate, I enjoyed this meal until nothing was left! My son took the Sweet chicken and loved it! The staff is not very talkative but very nice and they would adapt the recipe to satisfy your personal taste or allergies. A tiny hole in the wall in the back of a parking area. We ordered food for pickup on a friday night & had a good 45 min wait. The pickup was chaotic with Tommy super stressed & having no process for takeout pickup! When I arrived to get the food no one cared that I had ordered almost an hour ago...all I could see was a stack of food sitting in the kitchen getting cold. Tommy's is unlike other places where the your order is packaged up ready to go in the order it is ordered! Despite all the fanfare the food delivered! The eggplant was delicious & the combination fried rice really tasty. The heat in the Mongolian lamb was mild & the beef with broccoli was perfect for my toddlers. A great find! read more

First time ordering from Tommy's Wok. I ordered the lunch combination with Orange Chicken. The noodles and fried rice were okay, the chicken was very dry and the sauce that covered the chicken had a wired taste to it. I honestly did not taste orange chicken. The Soup that comes with the combination was extremely salty. My favorite part about this meal were the rice and noodles. I wish they could've served more rice and noodles. Overall an ok place. The best Chinese food I have had in Monterey County. Everything is so fresh and delicious! We went for lunch - I had the cashew chicken combo. The hot n sour soup was perfect, the cashew chicken was loaded with lots of fresh veggies. The chow mein and fried rice are really good. You get a lot for your money! My friend ordered a bowl of the soup - they made it fresh! And she had honey walnut prawns which were cooked perfectly. We also had veggie pot stickers - which were lightly pan fried and amazing - served with soy sauce with green onions. And the cheese crab wobtons were the best I've ever had. Perfect ratio of cream cheese to wrapper and lightly fried. Only downfall was the waiter kept forgetting our water and soda. I can forgive that, as the rest of the service was impeccable. VEGAN FOOD ALERT: Finding a decent, full, meal in Carmel is challenging but Tommy's is by far a favorite...and one of the only places I can find something other than sides for reasonable price. Everything on the menu IS made with chicken stock, but the staff is incredibly knowledge and will substitute... they'll even ask about eggs and dairy without prompt. Lunch for $10 can get any dish made with tofu (even special orders like orange tofu) or vegetables. Will have to be with plain rice as chow mein, fried rice, and soup are all made ahead with chicken stock. Lunch or dinner you can order any dish customized for vegan diet...no charge! The kitchen is open and provides customers a look into where the food is made, which is very comforting. I seriously cannot get enough of this food. We are locals and have been coming here for around 20 years. Much of the food is very good... Hot Sour soup, Mongolian Beef, Orange Chicken, etc... But, lately they have been adding more and more chopped vegetables to their dishes. I used to love their Kung Pao Chicken, but they have slowly begun adding more onion, bell pepper, celery and zucchini.. and now they're also adding large chunks of yellow squash! I pushed aside the small amount of chicken and peanuts to check and they were a very small portion of the dish! It's more like Kung Pao vegetables and because of this, the sauce has become very watery and lacking in flavor. My wife ordered the Cashew Chicken and it was the same thing! full of chopped vegetables and watery, flavorless sauce. Tommy's Wok, please go back to the quality you were known for! All items were perfectly cooked (hot and spicy string beans, vegetable Mu Shu (this was very flavorful - order a few more pancakes), House special chow mein was chock filled with BBQ port, chicken and shrimp, Tommy's special fried rice was very flavorful and had great texture amd Kung Pao Chicken had great crunch with the water chestnuts and color with bell peppers and sweet and sour pork was not at all mushy (ask for more sauce). We came to this restaurant with great expectations. Major disappointment. We ordered Snow White chicken. Menu gave the ingredients as chicken, pea pods and mushrooms in a white sauce. Since we don't like mushrooms we asked to have them not included. We were told they would just add more pea pods to the meal. it would just be chicken and pea pods. When the food was delivered, there was a ton of bamboo shoots mixed in. (Not a fan). The chicken was grisly and bony. I'm fairly certain this restaurant has the best Chinese food of all time. For example, if you think Won Ton Soup consists of chicken broth and wontons, as I formerly did, Tommy's Wok will redefine your take (and take out) on Chinese food entirely. The Won Ton Soup here is literally packed with fresh veggies (as well as shrimp, pork and chicken). If you're feeling under the weather during flu season, this soup is a cure-all (add some "pot sticker sauce" to give it a little extra kick). Other than the Won Ton Soup, I'm slightly obsessed with their cheese crab puffs and everything else on the menu... Everything (and yes, I've tried almost everything) here is delicious and made with fresh ingredients. If I could give the food 10 stars I would. Trust me. Pretty good place for Chinese. I think this is the only one in Carmel by the Sea. Tucked away in a little alley behind Wells Fargo. The chicken fried rice and Tommy's chow mein were really good. The Szechuan pork was decent- a little too sweet for me. The pork pot stickers were really good too- they come with a spicy sauce that was different. We ordered Togo and picked up right before they closed. They gave us Togo plates and utensils so we could eat at our hotel. Good joint! read more
