When I ordered my sushi for dine-in, and they handed me one of those containers instead of making a fresh roll, my heart sank. They are located in an international terminal where many of the travelers are Asian. The least they could do is have someone make the sushi fresh when they're charging at airport prices. Pretty decent prepared-on-the-spot sushi & Japanese cuisine at surprisingly reasonable prices at the airport. Lots of big fresh slabs of fish for the sushi chefs behind the counter. A good sign, in my book. Busy vibe here with a ton of customers in line as I walked up. Scan the to go counter as you stand in line. The line moves quickly thanks to the cashier who was courteous and efficient. There are many tables and counters to sit down and enjoy your meal, but most all were occupied already, so I just took one of the to-go portions from the cold case. The Rainbow roll was on point with good sized portions, but the rice was a tiny bit on the colder side due to being in the cold case for a few minutes. BEEF & VEGGIE UDON ($16.50): Tender beef, napa cabbage, a bundle of enoki mushrooms, a fish cake and generous serving of noodles were served in a light broth. The noodles were thick with a good bouncy texture and the broth (although on the salty side) comforted me during this tiring travel day. The beef was sliced thin, like what you'd find in sukiyaki, with just a couple pieces being heavy on the fat. The udon and broth was served extremely hot which I appreciated. I was actually surprised it didn't start melting the plastic bowl! The serving of udon was satisfying for the price. I also got a CALIFORNIA ROLL ($9) which was pricey for just six small pieces, but I suppose it's not outrageous for airport food. They have a grab-and-go section for sushi, so I saw the cashier just get one from there and place it in my bag right before calling my number. However, my 3 star rating comes directly from the service. I've been here several times, and every time the service is inadvertently bad. As I sit here at 7pm with only a few people driving, two female employees are LOUDLY conversing in Mandarin, complaining about everything from the management to customers. This isn't the first time- it's just unprofessional and tacky. The conversation is so loud, obnoxious and rude. The manager was complaining about a customer who asked about what different kinds of udon they had. That was funny was she actually didn't actually know how to pronounce any of the dishes correctly, but was complaining about how annoying it was that the person was asking her. I just now watched a customer ask her about his order Ava she told him "a reason a little bit" and walked away. I've seen enough- won't be back. Decided to try this place out since I was hungry and curious since this place didn't have many pictures or reviews. The curry was alright, thick and flavorful, but nothing crazy. It was probably on the level of S&B Golden Curry, which is fine. The problem is that the chicken was not cooked in the curry. This would have been fine if it was chicken katsu and if they gave a lot of curry, but neither was true. It was just fried chicken (not breaded or particularly flavored on its lonesome) with the bare minimum amount of curry covering the top of the chicken forest. However, there was a healthy amount of chicken at least. The price was as egregious as you'd expect from SFO ($20 after tax, before rip), but at least it was a filling meal. The service was fine, I got my food within minutes, but I ordered at 10:45pm. The store does look quite nice and Japanese-style. Would probably rate 2/5 if it was a normal restaurant but 4/5 reflects how dire the food situation is at SFO. read more

I am never quite sure how I feel about this place. Staff are excellent considering the crush of the crowd and type of customer (harried travelers) they have to deal with. The sushi they put out is pretty decent, the sashimi actually is quite good. And they handle some of the airport-unique situations (such as airline food vouchers) with aplomb, which is probably why you're splurging on airport-priced raw fish. The atmosphere tries for traditional yet contemporary Japanese wood tones, so it's almost comfortable, except when they are crowded, which is most of the time. 3 stars seems reasonable, but if you want to add "in an airport" I could see being more generous. read more
