I will not take my car there ever again, because I took it there for the check engine light was on and the code showed that it was an oxygen sensor and they kept doing other things saying that they would fix the problem. I kept having to go back, so I called my son in Las Vegas WHO is mechanic and told him the code and he said right off the bat that the problem was the oxygen sensor. So when I took it back the last time they replaced the oxygen sensor. But there were a couple of the times they had the car there a couple of days and it is the only car my wife and I have and my wife is handicaped so we had no way to get around those times Also they charged me a lot of money for things that didn't fix the car. Toms Automotive saved my day! I had to stop short for a light last Thursday and my brakes crapped out on me. Horrible grinding noise came from under my truck and I suddenly found myself going through the intersection unable to stop! Close call with an oncoming bus, whew glad I missed it! A caliper bolt broke causing it to shear off the caliper, destroy the rotor and overload the other so it destroyed itself too. Still had two good brakes so I was able to finally stop and slow down my heart rate. I limped home and called Toms. He said bring it in first thing in the morning and he'd have his guys take a look. I dropped it off in the morning and walked home. They offered me a ride but it was a nice morning so I walked instead. He called a couple hours later to inform me of the damaged brakes. I asked if they could rush the job as I needed my truck for a fishing trip later that Friday and he said no problem. Called me back at 2:30 and said it was done. Done professionally! Work great! I am surprised this place only had 3.5 - 4 stars. I would give their service a 10 if possible. Let me explain; I have been coming to Tom's Automotive since it was in Anaheim just off Anaheim Blvd., I would say 8 or 9 years. Tom and his mechanics were always HONEST (not something you see with many auto repair locations). If you have them check for something on your car, and ask for an estimate (hello, in some, if not many cases, auto repair shops will "low ball" the estimate. When you bring the car in for it's repair, suddenly that $400.00 estimate, including parts and labor, suddenly jumps to $800.00). I've never had that situation here. Either Tom or Chris (the "head mechanic"), will work out an estimate including parts and labor; they will also explain if there might be a delay because they don't have a specific part in stock (if that is the case they will call a distribution or manufacturer, to give you an accurate pricing. This actually happened to me several times, as it appears I can only afford older cars (like from the 90's vs the 21st century). What I am trying to say in my VERY Wordy note of exteme appreciation is this: Tom, Chris and all of the mechanics at this location are HONEST and top notch. They kept my old Cadillac, and Ford Taurus running until they could run no more (and Lord knows I would try to drag that extra mile or 10 if I could). These guys are GREAT. Hopefully soon I will back with them with a newer car, but so long as I am in the OC, this automotive repair shop will be my "go-to" mechanics. read more

I and a relative suspected my coolant tank was leaking after my "low coolant" light came on a couple times within a month and a half of refilling the fluid. A colleague recommended this shop, and since I couldn't set time aside for my regular shop I've gone to for years, I was willing to give this place a try. Knowing I'd have to stop by on my way home from work (which also meant it'd be about an hour prior to their closing time), I called to ensure that was okay, and the man I spoke to was very nice about it, saying to bring the car in any time during business hours (and the sooner the better). The results? Greeted by Tom in the shop with his employees, and directed me where to park my car, and asked about my problem. He listened without interrupting, and took a look under the hood with me to get a visual of what I'd just explained (I hadn't really done that before at a shop, so it was neat!). He casually explained the likelihood of what was going on, and then, sure enough, the cracks I had felt for the day before, had coolant bubbling and seeping out. I hadn't felt the liquid along the cracks because the engine was cool when I'd checked the cracks myself. Luckily they had another coolant tank for my car on hand, and gave me an estimate (it was affordable!) and kindly set a chair out for me in the shade while I waited (it was during a week where we got smacked with disgusting humidity, so the shade was nice, and I thought it very generous of them to provide a place to sit and wait, considering I don't think there is an official waiting area). Once it was replaced, he showed me and had me run the engine for a bit to ensure all was good. Before I drove away he asked if there was anything else they could do and to feel free to come by should my car need anything in the future. Did I mention all of that (arrival at shop and driving safely away) took maybe an hour? And ladies, for those wary about visiting car shops by yourself, I was treated with respect and felt comfortable there and honestly dealt with. I will gladly take my car back there! The shop is run by father and son, and I have yet to have problems with my car since its repair! DO NOT COME HERE I dropped off my car for an AC repair several hours after dropping it off I was called and told that they had solved the issue and were going to charge me $150 which I was completely okay with. I drove the car for a day left out of town for three and when I returned I drove my car turned on the AC only to find out it blowing hot air. Returned the next day left it with them for a few hours and when I got a cal from them they explained that they had found a leak "that was not there before" and that they had to charge me for the repair of the leak and the same repair from the first time. They did not accept the fact that it was there mistake for missing the leak. read more

Tom is a nice enough guy...but I was charged $300 for a problem that wasnt fixed. My compressor on the ac still does not cycle - even though they said replacing the thermistor (a $10 part that they charged 59.95 for) would solve the issue. It did not, compressor stays on nonstop still. I would pass on this place. Update - Tom called me after this review was posted and offered to walk me through the inspection and show me the gauges. One of the best automotive shops I've visited. My car had been turning off on its own for a while as well as flashing the check engine light when I was stuck in slow moving traffic. However, my car would always turn back on. I went to a couple different shops to try and figure out what was wrong with my vehicle but no one could give me an answer because there was no code being registered on the computer. I finally took my car to Tom's and my car has not turned off since. They are very friendly and diligent with their work. My wife and I were headed to Disneyland for our vacation. As I started up the grapevine on I-5, my hot engine light came on and we both thought that getting any further was a "no go". Worst body shop I've been to!!!! Don't ever come here. I took my car here to get my disc brakes replaced paying around $500 for the whole thing. The following day when I was driving on the freeway MY WHEEL POPPPED OFF!!!! IT STARTED ROLLING OFF ON THE FREEWAY!! The lugnuts were missing from the front wheel and one from the rear. I took it to the shop after and Tom says that "it's not their fault and I'm doing you a favor by fixing your car". How is Tom doing me a "favor " by almost killing me on the freeway?
