During the Texas cold and snow days in Jan 2026 our heat went out at 12:30pm. Toms Mechanical was called and they came out within 1.5 hours and fixed the issue. Garrett (our service technician was very professional, polite and was very knowledgeable. We learned about Toms from their TV commercials and so glad we did. Out of the 4 companies that came out, Casey spent the least amount of time checking my current HVAC. He barely looked at my system, then started talking about 20 SEER, which was an inappropriate size for my home. Casey never bothered to get back to me with the estimate. I have used Tom's for several years for all my Trane 19.1 seer heat pump maintenance needs. How ever this year I question a bad business decision. I called in early January 2026 to purchase the annual contract. I was told I could not. They were doing something different this year. They would call me. Well, no phone call as of yet. My experience with Tom's Mechanical was a joke to say the least. I called last week to have my system checked because my humidity indoors was at best 55% with 3 dehumidifiers (Danby and Medusa) running and each covering 1500 sqft in my 2300 sqft house (and I have to empty each of them every 12 hrs). Additionally I have lost a LOT of cooling capacity compared to last year. I had an "after hours appointment" that I could not make and set up one for Friday. I was told that they called me "several times", although I have no record of a call from them. They cancelled because the Manager decided that my humidity levels are acceptable and they can't do anything. I confirmed that it was "acceptable" WITH the 3 dehumidifiers running 24/7 and they confirmed. Also my cooling is ok. They must be AWESOME to be able to diagnose without setting foot on my property. Additionally their standards are something exceptional to be sure... I contracted a different vendor for my needs.However, since TRANE recommended them as a vendor, it would have been remiss of me to not provide feedback on Tom's Mechanical, so I made sure I did that right after I made my new appointment. I had this experience. There's no reason for others to waster their time- and likely money- considering the standards of this company. read more

I purchased an annual service contract from them after having purchased 3 HVAC systems for $20-25K over the past 15 yrs. Their service contract is twice annual cleaning etc. Well 5 days after they did the service, I noticed water dripping from the overflow line which comes out under eaves of roof. I'm told that this indicates a problem with them main drain. I called them to come back and check what they've done and they want to charge me a fee to come out when they are the ones who seem to have caused a problem where none existed before them. read more

These guys took the report and diagnosis from the earlier team members and got the parts and problem solved today which makes me and my wifes life so pleasant after dealing with this for a while. Just had a brand new Trane ac and furnace system installed. The whole process was great! Got a good upgrade compared to what I had and for a reasonable price compared to a few places I got quotes from. The installers worked hard all day and were very professional. I am not an expert but the work looks to be done very well! I will definitely use them again when my other old unit finally kicks the bucket. read more

HVAC unit stopped working. We called Tom's Mechanical to diagnose the issue for a $75 fee. Fair price...no issues. The fix was to replace the induction fan. They quoted $595 to replace the fan. I priced the induction fan...$90. I bought the fan and replaced the fan in 10 minutes. So good diagnosis, but charging 6 times the cost of the part to fix the issue is outrageous. read more

One of our units quit working last week. Tom's was recommended to us, so we called and had a technician come out. He diagnosed the problem. He said the new fan motor and installation would cost $590. My husband looked up the part and it was $89.00 and said it would be very easy to change, only 6 screws. My son and I did it in less than an hour. So what was the $590 for? read more

I have used Toms twice now, once for a new A/C unit and once for what I thought would be adding a 2nd unit,and I will continue to use them. I was refered by a friend to Brian Lackey. This guy is awesome. I called and had him come out to bid adding a 2nd unit for our upstairs. Instead of a slam dunk A/C sale, he explored our options to save us money and efficiently cool our upstairs. He didn't try to sell us the most expensive option, he sold us the best option for our needs and budget at the time. We did have one minor hick up, but no worres because Brian personally came out at 8pm on a Sunday to take care of it. After an inspection of my units and duck work, Tom's Mechanical gave me choices of what units I could purchase and explained the different options. They arrived on time and were professional in every respect. They corrected several problems with duct work and vents (one was still covered up with sheet rock and I bought a 30 year old house!) so I might have limped along with the old system for a couple of years after these items were repaired. Since I intend to live in this house for the next 10-15 years, I purchased a new system. I must say it is very nice to have the house approximately the same temperature from room to room. not a good experience. Bought 2 ac units for 2 seperate businesses before summer, 1 works ok ( not great) the other is average at best, sucks at worst. Talked to 2 different tech's and nothing happened not even to check out the unit. I was over billed until I complained and then it was fixed. The only reason someone is coming out to check on my unit now is that I refuse to pay until it works. Talk about losing tomorrows business for todays profits, will not use again. read more

I had Tom's come out to check my air conditioner and one rep said I possibly had a freon leak that for $350 he would replace the freon and if it leaked he would fix it then. It leaked and another Tom's rep came out and said yes you have a leak, I do not have the tools to fix it but I can come back Monday and for $1200 plus he would fix the problem. Well, I called the gent who installed the air conditioner, and he immediately saw where to fix the leak, that it was right in front of his face, and that any air conditioner repair person should have discovered it. It was fixed in one hour. read more

We recently switched our electric furnace to a gas furnace and received quotes from several HVAC companies who sell and install Trane. We were very happy that Tom's provided us with the lowest bid on the same furnace as well as additional items. Also, unlike a couple of other companies, their quote included electrical work. The salesman, Brian, was very informative and answered all our questions. Once I informed Brian that we wanted Tom's to do the work, he did not hesitate to get the installation scheduled for 3 days later. The crew, including electrician, were all very professional, courteous, and steadfast in getting the job done right and timely. They covered our floors and worked diligently until our new system was installed and working. We are very very pleased with their work and would definitely recommend Tom's to anyone who needs a new HVAC system. Although we haven't used their maintenance service yet....I'm sure it is top notch also!!! read more

Brand new indoor and outdoor units, Trane, costs $10,000 with a 10 year warranty. Issues started immediately, heat isn't working. My bill comes out to $300, landlord calls them up and they basically say I'm a liar. Oh, which out of the three technicians one quit and the other got fired the day after he installed my units. The third guy comes back and tries to figure out what is going on, but can't find any issues. So boss man comes out with his best guy and realizes the three technicians he sent over installed it incorrectly. Okay, no problem, and reimburses me for the high electric bill and fixes the issue. Fast forward a year later and the heat goes out again, I am slammed with work so I don't get around to calling until 5 months later. This is covered under parts warranty, they send a guy out and the first thing he does is start asking me how he is going to get paid. He literally said it 5 times, how am I going to get paid? Do you own the house? How am I getting paid? I'm not starting any work until I can confirm how I'm getting paid. So unprofessional! Especially since $10,000 got spent on two brand new units where the air handler can barely make it through a year without a problem. I made a mental note of the time, 12:20 pm, he stands around and calls his contact Nicole. Who happened to hang up on the landlord of the property who paid $10,000 for these new units and refused to take responsibility. Of course Nicole realizes that this isn't a service call it is a warranty call, calls back and apologizes for her blunder. Now this guy finally gets to work, the time is now 12:30 pm, I make a mental note of when he is done checking to find the heat limit is open (Not sure if that is correct terminology). The time is now 12:50 pm, he explains an issue with my condensate line and we go out front so he can write me up an invoice, the time is now 1:00 pm. I stand outside for at least 10 minutes while this guy sits in his van and fills out what appears to be no more than a few sentences on a piece of paper. I look at it and his time is listed as 12:15 - 1:15 pm, and you better believe he told me he gets paid by the hour. Oh, and he quotes me $180 for the labor to come back out and fix the part. Now, if $76 is the cost for one hour of his time, how on Earth is it going to take him over 2 hours to replace a part when it only took him 20 minutes to diagnose the problem? I don't think I'll ever use these people again. I've had great success with a place called Seasons over the past 10 years and I am starting to think I should have never strayed. read more

I tried this service because they were suppose to have prices close to what my HV/AC person of 22 years charged. Not true. This was a residential call. They bill you a flat rate of $249 for up to 5 lbs of coolant. Which would be ok, but all i needed was 3 lbs. The service tech did not explain this before the service in a manner that i understood. When he handed me the bill i was surprised. I questioned why the coolant was $249 and not $159 ($53 dollars a lb).He then explained again. I asked him," You mean if my system only needed 1lb of coolant you would charge me $249?" His answer was,"Yes." His prices are a little too steep in other areas also. I had a great experience that I want to share. We replaced our A/C unit at our house a little under two years ago. This week the new compressor went out. The replacement compressor was covered under the manufactuers warrantee but the installation only came with a one year warrantee. To my surprise Tom's mechanical from Arlington (original installation contractor) replaced the compressor at no cost. They did not have to do that. What a great company. If you have A/C issues I highly recommend Tom's Mechanical. read more
