We chose Tom's Plumbing for several deferred plumbing projects based on the positive Yelp reviews that with the job done, we can add to. Kitchen sink faucet, shower valve, and two toilet fill valves in our home were all expertly serviced. However, each one presented challenges given the age (over twenty years of use) and corrosion present. Despite this, our plumber, Martin, found ways to remove the old locked-on fixtures efficiently and effectively. In one case, he crafted an improvised tool and returned to remove the outdated fixture, thus keeping the scope of the repair to a minimum. I also want to comment on the confidence-inspiring communications with the front office staff. Not only was everyone responsive, but they listened to our needs and provided excellent customer service. Tom's--from the front office to the service people--has been an excellent company to work with in our time of need. They are more than deserving of my highest recommendation, and I feel lucky to have found them here. read more

When starting to descale the on demand water heater, the hot water ball valve sheared off soon followed by a drip. To stop it, turned off the cold-water valve - it sheared off also and made a bad condition VERY bad... had to turn off water to the house. This on a Saturday morning on a 3-day weekend! Called Tom's Plumbing for emergency service as changing out the valves and resoldering the pipes was something my old knees and back just couldn't bear. Justin was dispatched and he arrived promptly. After surveying the situation, he made a plan and got to work. This involved removing the old isolation valves and some of the copper piping, then installing new valves, new pipe and elbows, sweating the pipe in, testing and cleaning up the area. They recently had to use several different methods to clean our our surface (and partially buried) driveway and perimeter drain and added 7 feet of wide mouthed PVD pipe to get through a hard to reach area. read more

Came right out and replaced the faucet head. Took the guy about 3 minutes. Said they'd send the bill. $170.00. Tom's Plumbing's overcharging practice is another way for them to say to customers: "We don't care about you except that we can take more of your money than we earned." Another word for this overcharging practice is "theft." Really disappointing to see this in a wonderful community like Gualala. Tom's plumbing knows your options are limited, and they exploit it. That cynicism and lack of regard for customers is reflected in the other reviews here, and it is worse than the blatant gouging. Especially when they know you have no other choice in town. (They further limit your options by refusing to take credit cards.) read more

I will never use Tom's Plumbing again. I own a house in Sea Ranch. The owner of the business is arrogant and insulting. Brandon, the office manager, who directs all the many very young assistants is also arrogant and rude. Because one of these assistants turned off the main power switch when he was dealing with my leaking water heater, and forgot to turn it back on at the end of his visit, when I arrived from Oakland that night, there was no power and I had no idea where the main power switch was located in my electrical box. I had no choice but to stay a motel in Gualala and have dinner at a local restaurant. From the motel I called Brandon, who claimed in a later text that he came out after my call and couldn't get the main power switch back on. Early the next morning I miraculously got Mehl's Electric to come and they immediately turned the main power switch back on with no problem. I requested that my hotel and restaurant expenses be deducted from my bill. They were not deducted when I received the outrageous bill (all they did was take out the leaky water heater). I have since learned that the Sea Ranch List Serve (for Sea Ranch residents only) has many, many complaints about Tom's Plumbing, and also, the most important contractor in Sea Ranch told me that he would never recommend them in a million years. read more

I'd give them 0 if I could. They are the only plumbing outfit that will pick up the phone in the area and we have been forced to call them on several occasions. They charge $300/hr including their travel time if it's a weekend. They have misdiagnosed problems and tried to hook us into expensive unnecessary projects on several occasions. Just because they are one of the only shops in the area that will actually pick up the phone and send some one out does not mean they are a good business. I will never call this company again or pay them for doing nothing again. read more
