I only got the pork buns and the tako taki. Both were not good. The pork buns tasted doughy and the pork was dry - didn't taste like a pork belly for sure. The sauce was sweet and not that good. Despite the food, atmosphere, and overall vibes being great, I'm all about the details and having hooks at the bar for your bag is one that did not go unnoticed by me! Anyways, the portions are large and prices are very reasonable. Although the space is small, don't let that turn you away from dining in- the quick turn around is what makes wait times so low! Tomuken is a ramen and Korean bbq spot. Today we specifically went for ramen. We were seated quickly and service was normal. The ramen was good, and portion sizes are very large for the price. The restaurant is clean, fairly quiet, and does a good job of making sure important games are playing on the TVs.  Overall, it is definitely worth a visit when you're looking for some good, warm soup, especially when compared to some of the pricier ramen places nearby. Good value, speedy service at the bar. Walked in around 6pm on a weekday for dinner and sat at the bar. Ordered the Pho Deluxe and a Sapporo. Beer was served ice cold, and in a frosted glass which was a nice touch. Pho came out very quickly and was PIPING hot (as it should be). Comes with the standard fixings on the side! Bowl is enormous and portion is large. You will leave full! Not necessarily my favorite bowl of pho in the area, but it does really hit the spot! I thought both the broth and the meat were pretty good, but not phenomenal. Noodles and other add ins are great. Jalapeños were pretty spicy ones! The seats are small but there are hooks if you have a bag or jacket that has a loop on it. We ordered the Butter Corn Ramen and Kimchi Jigae. The Butter Corn Ramen was good and had good broth. Lots of noodles! But the fried chicken gets soggy after being in the soup and it doesn't taste the best. The Kimchi Jigae is really spicy! The kind where I couldn't taste much cause it was so spicy! Was visiting Ann Arbor for work and stumbled upon this place while we had a break between events. Came in on a weekday during off hours so wasn't busy and was seated immediately. I ordered the chicken katsu and spring rolls. My coworkers got the ramen and katsu curry. The spring rolls were fresh and had big pieces of shrimp. The peanut dipping sauce was also pretty good. The chicken katsu comes with rice and generous portions of both. The sauce on top was good but I wish it came out on the side and the chicken itself was a bit dry. I've been coming here a long time and recently in the past couple months (I've been noticing since August 2024) the food has been decreasing in quality. I come here every few months. The waiters are always kind and the restaurant is always popping. Here's the thing, the food has been getting pretty lackluster. The dumplings have been very doughy recently. The bao buns aren't the same. The bread is just odd and most of the time the meat is too fatty on the pork belly. I always get the Butter Corn Ramen and the noodles have recently been overcooked everytime. I always feel like I'm already eating leftovers when I go there. First time visiting Ann Arbor and Tomukun was one of the first places I had the opportunity to dine in. Plenty of seating inside with a very chill/casual vibe. Out of the ramen menu items, Tomukun ramen and the Butter Corn Ramen were recommended as the most popular items. In addition to these two, the staff personally recommended the slow roasted spicy beef ramen which I ended up ordering. I haven't tried many noodle/ramen restaurants in Michigan, but the slow roasted spicy beef ramen was by far the best ramen I have had in a while. The soup was extremely rich and you could distinctively taste the coconut milk that gave it a smooth, creamy aspect. Beef was slow cooked, so you can expect the beef to melt and fall apart as you bite into it. Veggies were fresh and noodles were solid. Lastly, portion size is by far much bigger than your average ramen bowl which is GREAT. Would recommend, and I'd like to hopefully stop by again to try other items next time. read more

Tomukun was our favorite meal out of our 3 days in AA. we split the Korean BBQ Beef Bulgogi meal - came with an amazing large salad (such a good dressing that was consistently all over it), four sides (the kimchi and spicy cucumbers were our fav), 3 unique dipping sauces, and veggies to grill with the meat. It was so fun & romantic to cook together over our personal grill and the food was literally so freaking flavorful, tastebuds were exploding with delight at everything. We came here for lunch when visiting hands-on museum. There was lunch special and kids menu which was nice. Also high chair was available which was very helpful. We wandered in during a football game day Saturday, but there were plenty of open tables and places to sit. We had no problem getting seated right away, though the QR codes on the table aren't obvious (Plus - they were looking a little rough) and weren't explained by our host. We ordered the pork buns to start, and, if we don't plan to order them again if we come back. There really just wasn't anything special about them. Not memorable, plus the ramen portion was plenty of food. The ramen itself was a soild hit. The tonkotsu ramen was a solid staple. Good broth. Good bounce in the noodles. Classic choice that didn't feel too heavy. The pho ramen really surprised us. We ended up liking it much better than we thought we would, though the classic Tomukun was still better at the end of the day. Overall, we had a positive experience. We'll check it out if we're in the area again, though I'm not sure we'd rate it highly enough as a "Go out of your way to come here" vibe. If you're walking past, peek in the window and see open tables, might as well take the opportunity to try it out. Absolutely Incredible! I can't say enough good things about this Korean BBQ noodle bar! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff was beyond friendly and attentive. I started with the summer rolls, and WOW--so fresh! The tofu was perfectly prepared, adding a delicious texture and flavor. Then came the star of the show: the spicy beef ramen. Hands down, one of the most flavorful bowls of ramen I've ever had! Everyone I've spoken to has highly recommended Tomuken when visiting Ann Arbor, so I knew I had to come! My friends and I arrived around 2 PM on a Sunday and had to wait around 20-25 minutes to be seated. Even at such a seemingly off time, the place was packed. Despite this, the waitress who took care of us was very friendly and took the time to recommend things to us. I got the Kimchi Jjigae Ramen, and it was absolutely delicious. The spicy ramen broth packed a punch in terms of flavor and spiciness, and the kimchi provided the perfect amount of sourness. I do wish the noodles were a tad more al dente, but they tasted excellent nonetheless. The portion size was huge, so you definitely get your money's worth. My friend got the Tomuken Ramen, and I really appreciated the depth of flavor the broth provided. We also got Takoyaki (not pictured) to share. I visited Tomukun Noodle Bar on Monday, 5/15/23, during dinner time. For the appetizers, I tried the Dumplings and Shrimp Summer Rolls. Both items were tasty and did not disappoint. The dumplings were deep-fried to perfection and the rolls were light and refreshing. I also ordered the House Pho. The bowl was so filling, I couldn't finish the entire meal. What I liked most about the House Pho was the flavor of the broth and the amount of meat that came with it. All in all, this restaurant truly has flavorful food. I recommend coming here. read more

I am usually a bit wary when it comes to pan-Asian restaurants, because usually it means that there isn't a specific thing the restaurant specializes in. Also, focusing on one particular cuisine suggests a respect for that cuisine and its traditions. Unfortunately, the ramen at Tomukun wasn't my favorite. I ordered the butter corn ramen. The broth felt very simplistic and one note, almost just like an overly sweet dashi broth. I also tried my partner's duck ramen, and I had a similar reaction. The soup was missing complexity, the hours and hours of simmering and layers of flavor that characterize a good ramen broth. I also didn't really understand putting the fried chicken directly into the soup, where it immediately became soggy before I had the chance to eat it. I might have just ordered the wrong things? On the plus side, it was a very generous portion of food, and though I wasn't able to finish it, I ended up taking most of it home. Also, service was great! After living in Ann Arbor for a few years, I finally tried Tompkins after hearing all the hype! The service was very quick and the staff seemed very well informed on the menu. Note to some- all of the broths for the ramen are apparently pork based, but they are able to do a beef based broth upon request. For me, the food was very average. I may have ordered the wrong item to judge upon, but the beef was well flavored. Besides the beef, the flavors weren't my favorite. The physical space is very tiny, so I recommend going at a less busy time as you may be otherwise waiting in a long queue. read more

I Loveeeee Tomunkun. Located in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, Tomunkun is a small restaurant with very limited seating. There are two sides of the restaurant the noodle bar and the Korean bbq side. I only ever tried the noodle bar which you can't go wrong with. I was accompanied by 3 friends and we all sat at the bar. We shared two bottles of Soju. A grape flavor and a strawberry flavor soju. It's like vodka just a little less strong. I also ordered the dumplings which you can never go wrong with. They were crispy to perfection and the dipping sauce is everything ‍. I don't anted to try something new so I got Pho basic and I was not displeased at all. The broth was super tasty and the lime added an extra taste to it that I didn't know would need it. My noodle bowl also came with two type of sauces that could be mixed inside one was a sriracha sauce and the other I have no clue but it was so good. A great pairing with the noodles. Food and ambiance are great. It can get busy, but it's worth the wait. They offer a wide variety of Asian American dishes. While it is not authentic Asian food, it is still very tasteful and flavorful. I do wish the staff cared more beyond just taking orders and seating you. Just what you need for those freezing Michigan winters or even during those muggy Michigan summers. So glad Ann Arbor's Asian food scene is the most developed it's ever been! And Tomokun is one of the restaurants that has moved the needle in the right direction. Came here on a pleasantly sunny weekend evening around 5:45pm without reservations and glad we did bc there weren't many open seats left outside (3-4 smaller table for outside dining) in about 15 min after we arrived. The restaurant is split into two parts, Korean bbq on the left and noodles on the right. We ate at the noodle bar since I was in the mood for something lighter on a warm day. We ordered the Tomokun signature ramen, hiyashi ramen and hiyashi soba. All three were yummy, although not mind-blowing. The hiyashi soba was served with a light dashi broth--I feel like there was a touch of citrus in it, and was refreshing. The hiyashi ramen was served with a soy garlic dressing and their signature ramen came in a rich pork broth. Plenty of toppings and each bowl was a generous serving size too. The noodles were decent, and the whole experience did the job in terms of satiating my ramen craving. Service was friendly and pretty standard for these parts. To say that the food was delicious is an understatement and the portion size is pretty huge! Unaware of the portion size we each order soups and lo mein! None of us could finish off anything we ordered to say the least, their portions should be featured in man vs food! We did box most of the lo mein and rice that we ordered.
