Came here with my fiancée. We got to sit in the corner in a quiet location of the restaurant. You have a nice view looking outside towards downtown. The host and server were friendly. Like other area sushi restaurants, the rolls are a little on the pricey side. I wasn't terribly impressed. Not to say they were bad, but they were more average, in my opinion. I like the ambiance and restaurant design. We didn't eat much or stay long. I enjoy all you can eat places (they don't offer it here). The robot is cute. It seems to be more common nowadays. Just an ok experience. Service was friendly. They also have cute robot that delivers your food! So they gave us a menu as well as a slip. There were items on the slip that were not on the menu and vice versa. They do have sushi, noodles, and some entrees. If you order soup, you get a pretty good serving size. I had a miso soup. Sushi was only ok. Most of the rolls were $15 and up. For liquor, they offer sake, wine, or Japanese beer. They also have tea and soft drinks. Parking is shared with all businesses in the strip, so we had to park a little bit down the street. read more

As a vegetarian, I frequent Japanese Sushi restaurants when traveling. The Sushi House was nearby. The service, while friendly, was unbelievably slow (and I'm visiting from Florida, where restaurant service is notorious for being intolerable). The avocado roll was good... and would have supported a 4-5 star rating. I decided to try the fried rice with veggies - I asked if they could include tofu and, if so, could it be fried (I have been served veggie fried rice elsewhere with uncooked tofu!)... the waitress checked with the chef and, irrascible as he was, I heard him correcting her about something. In any case, half way through my entree I came across some chicken in my rice. I thought... well, that's a one-off... so I was going to ignore it - but I decided to dig through the entree and found considerably more chicken. Incredibly fresh fish, perfect for sashimi,nigiri, and chirashi. If you're into crazy rolls like I am, you won't find a ton of options with raw fish here, though they have a lot of cooked rolls. The server said they get fish from O'Hare daily, and I Believe it because they're so close and the fish was fantastic. We didn't love the ramen here. I thought it tasted mostly like the nori sheets in it. Overall, I think this is a nice spot for lunch or a quick bite. I wouldn't mind stopping in again when I'm in the area. read more

Sushi House offers some really cool sushi options! I went here with a friend for lunch. Upon walking in, we were instantly greeted. Their service here is excellent with our waiter being so kind and sweet and so attentive. We ordered the Volcano Roll ($9.95) which had salmon, seabass, crab stick rolled and baked with housemade spicy mayo. We also got the Poseidon Roll ($13.95) which included spicy crabstick, sushi shrimp, crunchy crumbs, topped with tuna, albacore, avocado & unagi sauce. My favorite was by far the Volcano Roll. So much so that I ordered a second! The Poseidon roll was good but I'm personally not a huge fan of raw (I know, trust me, I'm trying to get there. I'm annoyed with myself that I don't like it either). I love that they do a yearly sushi roll. I think the menu has a lot of options, even if you aren't in the mood for sushi. Overall, a solid place. We ordered a few rolls for carryout for dinner. The rolls were packed with filling, which is always appreciated. The fish seemed fresh. Prices are pretty steep for basic rolls and the carryout packaging could be improved. The rolls are just put into regular oversized take out containers and they can just slide around or get smushed. Sushi was fine, but presentation is lacking. Not sure if I'd go back since there are other sushi restaurants nearby with similar quality, but slightly better pricing. read more

The sushi and rolls were very good. I got the 2 for 1 roll with salmon and it was delicious. I don't love raw fish, but the combination of crunch and fresh pink salmon made for a delightful combo. The volcano roll was also delicious! It is a great roll if you prefer something cooked. My boyfriend got the white tuna and fatty salmon sashimi which was fresh and yummy. The teriyaki salmon was average but a hearty portion. The house salad was awful. I expected a fairly standard sushi salad with the ginger dressing. This was covered in the ginger dressing that's usually served on the side of hibachi. It was a completely different dressing, it was tart and didn't work with the salad at all. The service was unfortunately terrible the night we were here. We waited about 15 minutes before being acknowledged, given water, had our order taken. Multiple items came extremely late or were forgotten. The sushi is definitely worth coming here for, but the service was absolutely horrendous. one of the best sushi place in Chicago, a hidden gem recommended by one of my foodie friends. Our friend recommended us to go with Simon's choice, and he makes a great selection of food based on your appetite and mood. We started off with some really good miso soup, really warmed us up during a cold winter day. The appetizers Simon picked are really good too, especially liked the tuna with a piece of jalapeno and some edible gold foil on top, very fresh and refreshing. The gyoza is amazing too, lightly crisp on the bottom. My daughter (2 years old) loved it, she finished half of it (and normally she only needs the skin without the stuffing inside). We then were served a variety of sashimi of the day, all of them are so fresh. Simon also made some cooked items for my daughter, which she enjoyed a lot. We then had some rolls, some are quite creative, liked the abundance of different tastes, they all blend very well together. The pork ramen is also amazing, the soup base is very rich and taste. The pork is tender and juicy. We ended the meal with a mango mochi ice-cream, it is very light and refreshing. The ambience is good too, nice and cozy. We were seated at a semi-enclosed space near the entrance with a view of the outside. They also have a smart robot that moves around the restaurant and can help with ordering and bringing food to your table. Highly recommend!! read more

This restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Downers Grove right by the train tracks. During the winter, they had outdoor "igloo" type seating with heating and it was extremely cozy and that set a really nice mood for the night. The staff was somewhat friendly. It was my fiancé and I's first time at Sushi House and when we asked for recommendations, the waitress wasn't really able to communicate with us. That didn't really bother us to be honest, but we ended up just ordering your typical Thai/Asian Fusion plates like the Pad Thai and a Bento Box. The food took a really long time to come out but it was a Friday night and it's understandable. The Pad Thai was just okay, nothing to really rave about, and the Bento Box was typical. The sushi pieces that did come with the box tasted really good and the fish was fresh. We also had a marinated type chicken satay as an appetizer but that had a bit of an after taste to it so we didn't really like it as much. Ever since the Naperville Sushi House location closed, I've always wondered about the other locations. The Downers Grove restaurant (situated right by the Downers Grove Metra train station) is one that I've always passed by since I take the Metra into the city frequently, so I was curious to see how this location fared against the old Naperville one. We ordered the three bento sets they offer on the menu, each one featuring a different teriyaki protein (eg chicken, salmon, and steak) and accompanied with tempura and a California roll. For the price (~$20 for each bento), the quality of food just wasn't worth it. The portion sizes were decent, but I would expect a higher quality of sushi (some fresh nigiri at least?) - and the dipping sauce for the tempura should at least come with freshly ground daikon (as is traditionally done). The steak teriyaki was overly tough to chew (even though we requested a medium rare cook). Honestly, the prices of the meny items here just aren't worth it - and you could instead just take a train ride into the city to get better-tasting Japanese food for similar prices. read more

Unfortunately my second visit was a disappointment. The super white tuna was so fishy/boarder line rancid that we could not eat the roll. The tuna tartare and spicy tuna were both oxidized. Love Sushi House! The past couple times I've eaten there I've come in alone, waiting for the train. I know sometimes restaurants look down upon customers who are by themselves, but not sushi house. Each time I've come to eat, the staff is always so sweet and welcoming. I came for dinner around 5:45 before a 6:45 train and was in and out very promptly! I did not feel rushed whatsoever. Looking at the menu, I initially thought dinner was on the pricey side. But, once I received my meal, I got more than what I thought I would! Portion sizes are huge. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and even though the chicken was somewhat fatty, it was quite delicious. It came with a side of white rice and vegetables. I wish there were more vegetables included in the dish, but I can't complain after the amount of food I received. In total, I paid $27 including tip. This included a cucumber salad to start, and chicken teriyaki as an entree. I came in quite early for dinner, so the place was empty. So I was in town recently and finished a meeting a little early. Before heading back into the city, I decided to stop by a d have lunch. When I walked in, I was greeted by a wonderful hostess/waitress, who immediately showed me to a table by the window and greeted me with a big smile. I accidentally ordered 2 spicy tuna hand rolls instead of regular rolls. Hand rolls are not my favorite but the flavor was still good. Shrimp shumai is a tasty appetizer treat, which comes with six steamed shrimp dumplings for you to eat. Have you tried their green iced tea? It's yummy, refreshingly, and delicious if you ask me! In my opinion, a Japanese meal would not be complete without miso soup. Good thing it's complimentary - no need for a coup! High five to the chef for this delectable meal, plus they have awesome lunch specials, this place is a steal. Our waitress was sweet and helpful with the menu, our lunch dining experience was a win because of this venue. Unless sushi just isn't for you, you should bookmark them on Yelp and snag a table for two. I've run out of places in the area with great sushi at a decent price, thought I'd check this place out vs having to drive to Arlington heights for my go to sushi / ramen restaurants. I know sounds weird, but I always get this roll anytime I've seen it on the menu at any sushi joint & this time it was my least favorite. 2 in 1 roll w/ tuna, tasted good but thought it was overpriced for what it was. $15. tamago was cold.) Finally. A great sushi place I have found in Chicagoland. I have tried so many sushi places, from Nori in Lincoln Park, to Butterfly in Wicker Park, Ra Sushi in Lombard, Yokohama in Westmont... So many places! Sushi House in Downers Grove is the best yet. They make their sushi with big, fat, fresh pieces of fish. The waiter said that the fish that you are eating was happy and alive less than 24 hours ago. The fish is flown in on ice, picked up at the airport, and distributed to all the local Sushi Houses. The veggies are fresh that they roll them up with too, and the rice is sticky and not dry. This is one of the very few places that you will find that don't pad their rolls with rice. I got Tomago as well, and it was excellent. The Tomago followed the theme of big and thick sushi. It takes a master sushi chef to make really good, smooth, and slightly sweet Tomago. For the quality of the sushi, it was very reasonably priced. Tomago was $2.25, a Philly roll was $7.95, and special rolls between &13-$16. They have all the fish up front, so you can see what you're about to feast on. If you are worried about spending too much here, I suggest getting carry out.
