Poseidon Roll
Jhenevie O.

Sushi House offers some really cool sushi options! I went here with a friend for lunch. Upon walking in, we were instantly greeted. Their service here is excellent with our waiter being so kind and sweet and so attentive. We ordered the Volcano Roll ($9.95) which had salmon, seabass, crab stick rolled and baked with housemade spicy mayo. We also got the Poseidon Roll ($13.95) which included spicy crabstick, sushi shrimp, crunchy crumbs, topped with tuna, albacore, avocado & unagi sauce. My favorite was by far the Volcano Roll. So much so that I ordered a second! The Poseidon roll was good but I'm personally not a huge fan of raw (I know, trust me, I'm trying to get there. I'm annoyed with myself that I don't like it either). I love that they do a yearly sushi roll. I think the menu has a lot of options, even if you aren't in the mood for sushi. Overall, a solid place. Price was fair with portions, it was the standard sushi place. Definitely adding to my list! Please come and visit Sushi House and show your support!

Carryout
Shari B.

We ordered a few rolls for carryout for dinner. The rolls were packed with filling, which is always appreciated. The fish seemed fresh. Prices are pretty steep for basic rolls and the carryout packaging could be improved. The rolls are just put into regular oversized take out containers and they can just slide around or get smushed. Sushi was fine, but presentation is lacking. Not sure if I'd go back since there are other sushi restaurants nearby with similar quality, but slightly better pricing.

one of the best sushi place in Chicago, a hidden gem recommended by one of my foodie friends. Our friend recommended us to go with Simon's choice, and he makes a great selection of food based on your appetite and mood. We started off with some really good miso soup, really warmed us up during a cold winter day. The appetizers Simon picked are really good too, especially liked the tuna with a piece of jalapeno and some edible gold foil on top, very fresh and refreshing. The gyoza is amazing too, lightly crisp on the bottom. My daughter (2 years old) loved it, she finished half of it (and normally she only needs the skin without the stuffing inside). We then were served a variety of sashimi of the day, all of them are so fresh. Simon also made some cooked items for my daughter, which she enjoyed a lot. We then had some rolls, some are quite creative, liked the abundance of different tastes, they all blend very well together. The pork ramen is also amazing, the soup base is very rich and taste. The pork is tender and juicy. We ended the meal with a mango mochi ice-cream, it is very light and refreshing. The ambience is good too, nice and cozy. We were seated at a semi-enclosed space near the entrance with a view of the outside. They also have a smart robot that moves around the restaurant and can help with ordering and bringing food to your table. Highly recommend!!

This restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Downers Grove right by the train tracks. During the winter, they had outdoor "igloo" type seating with heating and it was extremely cozy and that set a really nice mood for the night. The staff was somewhat friendly. It was my fiancé and I's first time at Sushi House and when we asked for recommendations, the waitress wasn't really able to communicate with us. That didn't really bother us to be honest, but we ended up just ordering your typical Thai/Asian Fusion plates like the Pad Thai and a Bento Box. The food took a really long time to come out but it was a Friday night and it's understandable. The Pad Thai was just okay, nothing to really rave about, and the Bento Box was typical. The sushi pieces that did come with the box tasted really good and the fish was fresh. We also had a marinated type chicken satay as an appetizer but that had a bit of an after taste to it so we didn't really like it as much. Great location, somewhat good food but still worth a try!

First time we tried Sushi House. And we love everything. We sat outside, Ambiance was perfect. We enjoyed our Hot Sake. Staffs are very friendly. We liked our sushi. They were very fresh & flavorful. Kids loved their Noodles. Foods were really good, clean. Definitely I will go again and explore some more Foods.

Ever since the Naperville Sushi House location closed, I've always wondered about the other locations. The Downers Grove restaurant (situated right by the Downers Grove Metra train station) is one that I've always passed by since I take the Metra into the city frequently, so I was curious to see how this location fared against the old Naperville one. We ordered the three bento sets they offer on the menu, each one featuring a different teriyaki protein (eg chicken, salmon, and steak) and accompanied with tempura and a California roll. For the price (~$20 for each bento), the quality of food just wasn't worth it. The portion sizes were decent, but I would expect a higher quality of sushi (some fresh nigiri at least?) - and the dipping sauce for the tempura should at least come with freshly ground daikon (as is traditionally done). The steak teriyaki was overly tough to chew (even though we requested a medium rare cook). Honestly, the prices of the meny items here just aren't worth it - and you could instead just take a train ride into the city to get better-tasting Japanese food for similar prices.

Update: we've been back! I think the nigiri/sashimi quality is the best in the area. It's been great every time.

Unfortunately my wife is vegetarian and the seafood roll included fish eggs, so that obviously doesn't work. I called the restaurant to ask if the order could be remade and simply packaged separately. At first I was told no, and after speaking with the manager it turned into an unnecessarily difficult conversation before they finally agreed to remake it. What was most disappointing wasn't the initial mistake -- those happen -- but the attitude and unwillingness to correct something that was such a simple fix. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I strongly believe that taking care of your guests and making things right should always come first. Losing a loyal customer over the cost of a few sushi rolls simply doesn't make sense. Restaurants, especially those serving seafood and shellfish, should be mindful that many guests have dietary restrictions, allergies, or lifestyle choices like vegetarian or vegan diets. Unless it's clearly stated otherwise, customers should be able to expect that separate items will be packaged separately. Unfortunately this experience has made me reconsider supporting a place I've visited and recommended many times before in Downers Grove. Hoping this is something they reflect on for the future.

Anytime I've been in town and have a sushi craving, this is my go-to and has been for the past 5 years. Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, the menu has a wide variety of options - including appetizers, traditional rolls, specialty rolls, and so on - and the food is always fresh, made-to-order, and leaves my tastebuds doing backflips! This time around, we ordered our usual appetizers - crab rangoons, shrimp shumai, chicken karaage, & miso soup - as well as a handful of rolls including the color dragon roll, regular dragon roll, fire dragon roll, yelllow tail roll, the sweet 16 roll, and an assortment of nigiri and sashimi. We ordered enough sushi to have it served on a boat (which is always such an exciting feeling!!). As usual, everything was fresh and tasty! The highlights of our sushi boat were definitely the fire dragon roll and the color dragon roll; DYNAMITE flavor! With all that being said, I highly recommend Sushi Nova to all folks that are willing to make the drive out to Westmont and are open to having a delicious experience with loved ones!

It did start to pick up around 8 PM, but by then we were wrapping up. If you've ever been here on a weekend, you already know...it gets crowded fast. So weekday evenings are definitely the move if you want a more relaxed experience. One thing I did notice is that the menu feels more condensed compared to pre-COVID days. The quality is still there, but some of the little details have changed. For example, the fried alligator now comes with a hot honey sauce instead of the original sauce...and I'm not sure why that changed. I get that restaurants have had to adjust over time, but I do wish they'd bring some of those original touches back. Also, don't be surprised if a few of your old favorites are gone or slightly different. Customer service has always been consistent for me...friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The atmosphere is more on the intimate side, nothing overly flashy, just a comfortable place to enjoy a good meal. Parking is pretty reasonable and the lot is spacious, but when it's busy, you'll definitely feel it. There were three of us, and we ordered the fondue, fried alligator, fried shrimp, three-piece stuffed crab, and blackened salmon with red beans and rice, plus a drink. After tax and tip, the bill came out to around $150-$160, which felt fair for what we ordered. Overall, this is still one of my go-to spots and I'll definitely be back. I just hope they consider bringing back some of the original menu items...or at least that original alligator sauce!
